    ANTIOCH, Tenn. — Ruby Stevens Austin, 59, wife of Lewie Austin of Antioch, Tenn., died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 in Tennessee.
    Mrs. Austin was born in Union, Nov. 13, 1946, a daughter of Josephine Preis Stevens of Union and the late Vernon Murphy Stevens. She was a retired registered nurse and a skilled musician. Mrs. Austin was very active in her church since the age of 13.
    Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are: a brother, Ronald Stevens of Union; two nephews, one serving in the U.S. Army and one serving in the U.S. Air Force.
    Funeral services were held Saturday in Tennessee and will be held in Union Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

    JONESVILLE — Margaret Horne Knox, 82, of 9125 Jonesville Highway, Jonesville, widow of Weldon Knox Sr. died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
    Mrs. Knox was born in Union Mary 25, 1924, a daughter of the late Frank Horne and Nannie Vanderford Horne. She was retired from United Merchants Union Plant.
    Survivors are a son, Weldon Knox Jr. and wife Donnis of Jonesville; a daughter-in-law, Janice Knox of Jonesville; two sisters, Sara Rodgers and Juanita Reynolds of Adamsburg; two brothers, Lewis Horne of Union and Franklin “Dee” Horne of Summerville; four grandchildren, Tracie McKelvey and husband Leland of Pacolet, Troy Knox and wife Wendy of Jonesville. Jerry Knox Jr. and wife Rachel of Lexington and Melissa Knox of Union; and four great-grandchildren, Brook Knox, Mattie Knox, Kayla Knox and Dustin McKelvey. Mrs. Knox was predeceased by a son, Jerry Knox, three sisters, Pearl Thompson, Mae Thompson and Nell Farr; and five brothers, Forest Horne, Woodrow Horne, Johnny Harold Horne, William “Pete” Horne and Robert A. Horne.
    Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Active pallbearers will be Jerry Walton, Bobby Horne, Steve Horne, Bobby Thompson, Troy Knox and Jerry Lynn Knox.
    Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Fund.

    Genevieve Doty Weber, 91, widow of Wilmer Lamar Weber died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.
    Mrs. Weber was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 12, 1914, a daughter of the late Alfred Truman Doty and Dolly Jackson Doty. Mrs. Weber graduated from Chester High School, Chester, W.Va., St. Johns School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio and retired as a registered nurse from East Liverpool City Hospital, East Liverpool, Ohio. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
    Survivors are a daughter, Carol Smith and her husband Wilbur Smith, III of Union; a son, John Weber and his wife Mary of Inman; a stepdaughter, Donna Weber of Havre ‘de Grace, Md., and four grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Martin Smith, John Weber and Nicholas Weber.
    Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons and the Rev. Gideon Long. The family will receive friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church immediately following the service. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Inverness, Fla., at a later date.

Mrs. Mary McManus Rabb, 75, of 115 Woodlawn Avenue, Union, SC, widow of Roger Little Rabb, Sr., died Wednesday, January 4, 2006.

Mrs. Rabb was born June 27, 1930, in Hamlet, NC, the daughter of the late Herbert Torrence McManus and Sallie Ellerbe McManus. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a retired school teacher after twenty-eight years of service.

Survivors are: a daughter; Anne Knopf and husband Julian of Hartsville, SC; two sons, Rogers L. Bo Rabb, Jr. and wife Melanie of Union and William R. Rabb, II and wife Teressa of Buffalo; three sisters, Nelle McManus of Monroe, NC, Annie Ruth Uzzell of Burlington, NC and Elizabeth Leverance of College Park, MD; a grandson, Bobby Tucker and wife Kelly of Buffalo; and a great-granddaughter, Lanie Tucker of Buffalo. Mrs. Rabb was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth Suzanne Betsy Rabb.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

JONESVILLE — Crystal Renee “Christy” Parkins, 27, of 665 Gaffney Highway, Jonesville, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at 5:12 p.m. in Wa l l a c e T h o m s o n Hospital after a brief illness.
    Christy was born in Spar tanburg Nov. 28, 1978, a daughter of Jimmy Lee Parkins Sr. and Brenda Kirby Parkins of Jonesville. She was a member of Gilead Baptist Church and attended the Charles Lea Center and Union Special Services.
    Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Holly Parkins of Sharon; a brother, Jeff Gault and wife Dawn of Jonesville; and six nephews, Josh Gault, Wesley Gault, Adam Parkins, Jonah Parkins, Spencer Burnett and Jessie Parkins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Kirby, her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parkins and a brother, Jimmy Lee Parkins Jr.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Lawton Neely and the Rev. Joe Stover. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

    BUFFALO — Grace L. Tucker, 81, formerly of 2450 Mt. Lebanon Church Road, Buffalo, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at Woodruff Manor Nursing Home in Woodruff.
    Miss Tucker was born in Spartanburg County, May 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Berry and Janie Sherbert Tucker. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
    Survivors are two brothers, Grady L. Tucker Sr. of Buffalo and Barry G. Tucker of McConnells; a sister, Gladys Lawson of Pauline; and a number of nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Randy Pettit. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    Pauline Marie Boyer Phillips, 85, formerly of 1204 Main St., Buffalo, widow of E.S. Phillips, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, in Wallace Thomson Hospital.
    Mrs. Phillips was born in Charleston, W.Va., on Aug. 29, 1920, a daughter of the late Fendley Boyer and Nora Mae Boyer Quinn and step-daughter of the late Dewey Quinn. She attended the Buffalo Baptist Church.
    Surviving are a sister, Pearlee Holt and husband Billy of Buffalo; a brother, Benny Quinn and wife Ruth of Buffalo; two daughters-inlaw, Patsy Phillips of Buffalo and Joyce P. Wooten of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Bradley Mark Phillips, T. Paul Phillips, Donna Renae P. Smith, Brent Edward Phillips Jr., Michael Dennis Phillips and Lisa Phillips; and seven great-grandchildren, Cara and Collin Phillips, Kelly Holt, Jesse James, Nicole Phillips, Kirsten Smith and Joyce Leann Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was predeceased by two sons, Brent Edward Phillips Sr. and Dennis Pat Phillips and a grandson and his wife, Dennis Timothy Phillips, Angie Blackwood Phillips and their three daughters.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tim Anderson and Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

W. MARSHALL COMER
FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE

W. Marshall Comer was born November 15, 1918, in Hickory Grove, York County, South Carolina. He passed away peacefully on January 15, 2006 after many years of declining health due to Alzheimer’s Disease. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Juanita Sanders Comer and was a son of the late William Thomas Comer and Myrtle L. Sanders Comer.

Marshall grew up in the Excelsior Mill area of Union, of which he was very proud. He graduated from Union High School and Wofford College. He served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945 in the Utility Air Squadrons in the West Coast and Pacific regions, and spent 17 years in the US Naval Reserve. He worked at Excelsior Mill for many years and treasured the friends he made there. He taught school for ten years in the Union High School Veteran Training Program, while also working at Excelsior Mill. Marshall served on the Union City Council from 1962 to 1964, and served as Mayor Pro Tem. He served eight years in the S.C. House of Representatives from 1965 to 1972 as a member of the Union County Delegation which included Furman L. Fendley, Sen. John D. Long, and Sen. John D. Long, III. During their service together in the Legislature, they were a strong team, and Union County experienced significant economic growth from their efforts. He was elected to the S.C. Employment Security Commission by the S.C. Legislature in 1972 and served as a Commissioner for eight years until his retirement in 1980.

He was co-owner of the “Fabric House”, and operated a Nationwide Insurance agency for 20 years until 1991. Marshall was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for over 50 years, and served on the Board of Deacons and a number of other committees at Tabernacle. He was a Mason- Shriner, and a member of the V.F.W., American Legion Post No. 22 serving as Chaplain for several years, Union Rotary Club, and Gideons International for which he was a Lay Speaker. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Union Chapter of the Salvation Army.

He genuinely loved and gave to his church, city, county and state. He was one of “The Greatest Generation”. He began working at the age of 11 to support his family, and did not stop until Alzheimer’s began to take its toll. One of the greatest compliments paid to Marshall was made by a former S.C. Legislative newspaper reporter, who said, “I have said to many people over the years when discussing my years in Columbia that one of the few people I could really believe without having to check anything was Marshall...I couldn’t say that about too many ...most of them I would check behind before printing anything as gospel... but not Marshall.”

Marshall was also a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Marshall is survived by a daughter and son-in-law; Susan and Joe Lawson of Union; a son and daughter-in-law, William (Billy) M. Comer, Jr. and Nancy Rash Comer of San Diego, CA; a granddaughter; Erin Comer of Clemson University; five grandsons: Greg Lawson, Lynn Lawson and David Lawson of Union, Jason Lawson of Lexington, and Brett Comer of Clemson; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Rev. A. Heyward Comer of Spartanburg; four brothers-in-law, Edwin Sanders, Curtis Sanders, Manning Sanders and Carol Sanders; and two sisters-in-law, Reba Murphy and Will Lena Kirby.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Union. Services will be conducted by Rev. Roger Plemmons of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Rev. Tommy Comer, nephew from First Baptist Church of Gaffney, Rev. Mike Moody of the First Baptist Church of Honea Path and Rick Jeffcoat, nephew from Simpsonville. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

    Bennie I. Quinn, 70, of 296 Meansville Road, Union, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at 10:17 a.m. in Mary Black Hospital after a short illness.
    Mr. Quinn was born in Buffalo on Feb. 11, 1935, a son of the late Dewey and Nora Mae Mowdy Quinn. He was a member of the Union Church of Christ. Mr. Quinn was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a former textile employee.
    Surviving are his wife, Ruth Stines Quinn of the home; a sister, Pearlee Holt of Buffalo and a number of nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the Union Church of Christ conducted by Minister Curtis Gilbert. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Samuel Thaddeus Strom Sr., 95, of Union passed away at his home Jan. 16, 2006, after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Martha Jones Strom. He was also predeceased by five sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Strom was born June 22, 1910 in Ward, S.C. He was the son of the late Robert Pe t t i g rew Strom and Carrie Corley Strom. He was educated in the Ward public schools, attended Mars Hill Junior College (1928-1929), and was graduated from Furman University (B.A. 1931) and Duke University (M.A. Ed. 1941). He owned and operated the Western Auto Associate Store on Main Street in Union from 1946-1975. From 1932 to 1946, he was principal and teacher at the Woodruff and Gray Court public schools.
    Mr. Strom was a member of First Baptist Church, Union, since 1946, where he served on various committees, the church choir, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Life Deacon and Sunday School teacher for 50 years. He was a member and president of the Union Lions Club and was a member and president of the Downtown Union Merchants Association. He served on the Union County Board of School Trustees from 1954-1972. He was a supporter of The Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels. In 1998 he established the Strom Scholarship Fund at Mars Hill College. He and his wife researched, authored and published the genealogy book, “The Stroms of South Carolina 1765-1983.”
    Mr. Strom is survived by two daughters, Carolyn S. Collins, her husband, Dr. W. Andrew Collins of St. Paul, Minn., and their children Caroline Elizabeth Collins of Minneapolis, Minn., and Andrew Strom Collins of Cincinnati, Ohio, Martha Elizabeth Strom and her daughter, Claire Elizabeth Paige Strom of Lexington, Ky., and a son, Samuel T. Strom Jr. , his wife Sandra, of Union and their children, Samuel T. Strom III of Sumter and Trevor Stevens Strom, a junior at Clemson University; a sister, Elizabeth Eaton of Winston Salem, N.C. and a number of nieces and nephews.
    The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the Union First Baptist Church Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, from 1 until 2 p.m. with the funeral service to follow. Members of the Sam Cain Sunday School Class, along with present and former Deacons of First Baptist are asked to sit as a group . Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

    Danny Ray Wix, 61, of 823 Tinker Creek Road, Union, died at his home Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 after a sudden illness.
    Mr. Wix was born in Union, Jan. 18, 1945, a son of Marie Parks Wix of Union and the late Grady Wix. Mr. Wix was employed with Timken of Union and was of the Baptist faith.
    Surviving in addition to his mother are a daughter, Carol W. Haskett and husband, Jerry of Union; two sons, Steve Wix and wife Shannon of Union and Chris Wix of Union; a brother, Rickey Wix and wife Cindy of Union; two sisters, Rhonda W. LeMaster and husband Larry, Cathy W. Ramsey and husband Francis, all of Union; grandchildren, Chad and Allison Wix, Roger Willard, Kari and Adams Jennings; and a number of nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at New Life Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Clarence Adkins and the Rev. Malachi Rodgers. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

    Martha Prince Gault, 68, widow of Harold Ray Gault, 227 Haas St., Union, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at her home after an extended illness.
    Mrs. Gault was born in Ware Shoals, Jan. 9, 1938, a daughter of the late Charlie and Violet Russell Prince. She was a graduate of Union High School, class of 1956 and retired from Excel Hosiery. Mrs. Gault was of the Methodist faith.
    Surviving are two daughters, Sherri G. Rhinehart of the home and Donna G. Rector of Union; three sons, Ronnie Gault of the home, Billy Gault and his wife Cindy, and David Gault all of Union; a brother, Willie B. Prince and his wife Brenda of Buffalo; 6 grandchildren, Chris Rhinehart, Jody Rector, B.J. Gault Jr., Josh Gault, Elizabeth Martin and Deanna Martin and two great-grandchildren.
    Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Rick Cook and the Rev. Howard Johnson.

    Mr. Cody was born in Union, Nov. 29, 1920, a son of the late John James Cody Sr. and Janie Nixon Cody. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Rouse Corp. in Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Cody was a captain in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He received the Bronze Star Medal while serving with the 3rd Battalion, 104th Infantry Regiment in France, Luxembourg and Germany. He also received the Combat Infantry Badge and Campaign Medals.
    Surviving are a daughter, Dell Cody of Atlanta; two sons, Walter T. Cody Jr. of Arizona and Robert M. Cody of Alabama; three sisters, Jeanette Huggins of Marietta, Ga., Sarah Crocker of Johnston and Mary Phillips of Union; three brothers, Dr. John Cody Jr., Baxter Cody and Frank Cody, all of Union; seven grandchildren, Tammy James, D’Ree Cooper and Michael Cody, all of Atlanta; Darrick Cody of California, Ryan Cody of Phoenix, Ariz., Joseph Cody of Houston, Texas, and Christopher Cody of Alabama and 13 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Greater Union Church conducted by the Rev. Anthony Shetley. Mr. Harold Coleman and Mr. Philip Cody. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery with military honors.
    Active pallbearers will be Walter T. Cody Jr., Robert M. Cody, David Michael Cody, Lynn Phillips, Mac Phillips and Don Cody.
    Members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of the Great Union Church will serve as the honorary escort.
    The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Greater Union Church.

    Bettie Estelle Weber Elliott, 77, of 17 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at 10:25 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
    Mrs. Elliott was born in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 12, 1928, a daughter of the late Lewon Weber and Lunelle Mitchell Weber Lackey. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Elliott was a retired seamstress.,
    Surviving are a sister, Ann W. Sorley of Jonesville; a niece, Mary Anne Kreibich and husband Dennis of Fort Mill; two great nieces, Emily and Charlotte Kreibich, both of Fort Mill; and a cousin, Dr. William Weber and wife Jackie of Union. Mrs. Elliott was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, Shirley McGahee, Peggy Williams and Robert Weber.
    Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Gary Byrd and the Rev. Keith Sweat.
    The family is at the home of her sister, Ann Sorley, 717 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, where they will receive friends Tuesday.

    Minnie Bernice Martin Richardson, 80, widow of Cecil Richardson, of 104 West South St., Union, formerly of Ringling, Okla., died at her home, Friday, Jan. 20, 2006.
    Mrs. Richardson was born in Grady, Okla., Jan. 31, 1925, a daughter of the late Albert and Roxy Duford Reynolds. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Richardson was first married to the late Garland Martin Sr.
    She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are three daughters; Minnie Jo Bardin of Tahlequah, Okla., Sherill Poage of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Bertha Marie Perkins of Ringling, Okla.; five sons, A.C. Martin Jr. of Union with whom she made her home, Skeeter Martin, Garland Martin Jr., and Vernon Allen Martin, all of Ringling, Okla., and Jonathan Martin of Stigler, Okla.; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Martin was predeceased by two daughters, Joanne Martin and Roxy Gregg and three sons, Garland Eldon Martin, Cecil Lynn Martin and Billy Alex Martin.
    Funeral services will be held in Ringling, Okla., conducted by Spivey’s Funeral Home.

    Michael J. Wallen Sr., 51, 435 Old U.S. Highway 176, Whitmire, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
    Mr. Wallen was born in Union, Jan. 13, 1955, a son of Elizabeth Trammell Wallen Alexander of Whitmire and E.B. Wallen of Whitmire. He was a self-employed electrician having formerly worked with Eldeco Electric in Greenville. Mr. Wallen was a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Whitmire Unit and a graduate of Spartanburg Technical College.
    Surviving in addition to his mother and father are a stepmother, Orlean Wallen of Whitmire, a daughter, Jeanie Brook Wilson of the home, two sons, Michael James Wallen Jr. of the home and Steven Wallen of Union; a step-sister, Kay Ammons of Whitmire, a brother, Bryan Wallen and his wife, Angie of Fort Mill, and his grandmother Burdell Trammell of Newberry.
    The family received friends Sunday night at the funeral home.
    Funeral services were held today at 2.p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Whitmire Cemetery.

Sibbie Adams Tipton, 84, widow of Vernon M. Tipton, formerly of 409 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006. Mrs. Tipton was born in Kelton, a daughter of the late James Talmadge Adams and Irene Gallman Adams. She was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School, a member of the Home Extension Club and the Garden Club. Mrs. Tipton was an active member of Foster Chapel United Methodist Church and served as a member of the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and served on the Administrative Board for several years. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
    Surviving are three daughters, Joan Little and husband Allan, Marian Belue and husband Wayne and Peggy McKinney, all of Jonesville; a sister, Mabel Hollingsworth of Union; a brother, J.T. Adams of Jonesville; seven grandchildren, Danny Little, Todd Little, Mary Pacolette Genoble and husband Tommy, Mickey Belue and wife Amy, Shane Belue and wife Dawn, Heath Blue and Brandy Gainor and husband Gray; and eight great-grandchildren, Kayla, Mary, Michael and Tanner Belue, Liza, Hayden, Maggie Grace, Ella Paige Genoble and Sarala Gainor.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Foster Chapel United Methodist Church conduced by the Rev. Keith Sweat and the Rev. Larry Hyder. Burial will be in Porter Cemetery.

    Sallie Marie Lawson Brewington, 81, formerly of Union, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 at Magnolia Manor in Spartanburg. Mrs. Brewington was the widow of Clarence Brewington.
    Mrs. Brewington was born in Union, July 16, 1924, the daughter of the late James Fred Lawson and Marie Smith Lawson. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.
    Survivors are a brother, Daniel Newell Lawson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister-inlaw, Betty Lawson of Union; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brewington was predeceased by a son, David Wix, three brothers, Henry O. Lawson Sr., James W.F. Lawson and Robert Lawson.

    BUFFALO — Rosa Lee Moore, 63, wife of Norman Dean Moore of 129 Clifford Drive, Buffalo, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 at the home of her daughter after a long illness.
    Mrs. Moore was born in Buffalo, March 23, 1942, the daughter of the late Will Franklin Haney and Daisey O’Dell Boulware Haney. She was a member of the Monarch Assembly of God Church and was a homemaker.
    Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Lynn Steele and husband Mike of Jonesville, Joyce Greene and Lisa Harwell, both of Union; three sons, Joe Dean Moore and wife Marie of Buffalo, Terry Franklin Moore of Buffalo and Ray Moore and wife Sherrie of Union; five sisters, Jean Turner and Sandra West, both of Union, Maggie Miller of Hartwell, Ga., Linda McAlister of Georgia and Vanessa Hogan of Cheraw; three brothers, William and Michael Haney, both of Union and Gerald Haney of Buffalo; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Moore was predeceased by a brother, James Haney and two sisters, Cindy Gibson and Dorothy Justice.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the Monarch Assembly of God Church conducted by the Rev. Jerry Hargrove. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

    Carl Edward Owensby, 81, of 106 Peccole Pass, Moore, husband of Nettie Frances Holt Dill Owensby, died Friday, Jan 27, 2006, at Oakmont of Union after an extended illness.
    Mr. Owensby was born in Union, Nov. 12, 1924, a son of the late James Fred Owenby and Inez Toney Owenby. Mr. Owensby was retired from Inman Mills, Enoree Plant and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Enoree where he served as a deacon, and was named Deacon Emeritus. He taught Sunday School for over 25 years, served on many committees of the church and was honored with the Sunday School class being named after him. He was a Mason and a former member of Civitan. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
    Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years are:a daughter, Thomasene Owensby of Moore, a sister, Jean Davis and husband, Joe, of Spartanburg, three brothers, William E. “Bill” Owenby and wife Jane of Union, Warren E. Owenby and wife Joy of Nashville, Tenn., and Jerry Francis Owenby and wife Jenny of Lancaster; a special niece and nephew, Michelle and Bill Mullen of Spartanburg; a number of nieces and nephews; a cousin, R. C. Farmer of Union and a close family friend, Ginger Chalk of Union. Mr. Owensby was predeceased by a brother, Harold Toney Owenby.
    Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Enoree conducted by the Rev. Ron Parris and the Rev. Andrew Shull. Burial was in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.

    SPARTANBURG — Harry Woodrow Sanders, 92, of Spartanburg, widower of Julia Sanders, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
    Mr. Sanders was born in Union, Oct. 4, 1913, a son of the late Fred Alexander Sanders and Lula Ogles Sanders. Mr. Sanders graduated with high honors from the Cincinnati School of Embalming. He served his country in Italy shortly after the end of World War II as a funeral director, whereby he coordinated the return of soldiers killed abroad. Mr. Sanders spent most of his career working in Richmond, Va., where he retired from Old Dominion Tractor Co. in accounting. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg.
    Mr. Sanders is survived by a sister, Winnie B. Sanders of Asheville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Julia Shively of Winston Salem, N.C. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
    Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the Chapel at Skylyn Place Retirement Center in Spartanburg.

Barnie Jean Willard Summers, 70, a resident of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home, widow of Lester Summers, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.after an extended illness.
Mrs. Summers was born in Cross Anchor on Jan. 29, 1936, a daughter of the late David and Sara Willard. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mrs. Summers was first married to the late Shealey Lawson.
    Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Williamson and husband, Steve, of Spartanburg; a son, Jimmy Lawson and wife Judy of Union; three grandchildren, Doyle Lawson, Tyler Williamson and Melanee Williamson and four great-grandchildren, Ansley Lawson, Andrew Lawson, Adam Lawson and Connor Williamson. Mrs. Summers was predeceased by a sister, Ophelia Willard.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Guy Langston, the Rev. Warren Jones and Mr. Bill Williamson. Burial will be in Yarborough’s Chapel Cemetery in Cross Anchor.
    Active pallbearers will be Tyler Williamson, Doyle Lawson, Josh Williams, Ronnie Duckett, Jimmy Truitt and Mark Truitt.
