Richard Kinney

Mr. Richard Kinney, age 93, widower of Daisy Davis Kinney of Martha Franks Nursing Center in Laurens, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Kinney was born in Warren, PA, September 12, 1923, a son of the late Alfred Russell Kinney and Edith Evelyn Creamer Kinney.  He received his master degree in business from Georgia State University and was a retired accountant.  Mr. Kinney retired as an auditor for the International Mission Board and was formerly employed with the Internal Revenue Service.

He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurens.

Surviving are a brother, George Sandifer of NC and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kinney was predeceased by four brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Rickey Letson and Rev. Russell Dean.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.

Elaine M. Wilson
Jonesville, S.C.


Mrs. Elaine Moss Wilson, age 71, widow of Stephen Allen “Chigger” Wilson of 138 Lybrand St., Jonesville, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Union, April 28, 1945, a daughter of the late Jesse Ray Moss and Maggie Hawkins Moss. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Mrs. Wilson was a retired sales associate with Wal-Mart and had previously worked with Belk Dept. Store and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie Smith of Buffalo; two grandchildren, Megan Smith of Buffalo and Morgan Smith of Spartanburg; a great-grandson, Gabriel Brent “Trey” Lawson, III of Spartanburg and a host of other loving family members. Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by a sister, Anita Hayes.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cannon. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.

Mr. Danny Lee Peterson, age 44, widower of Jessie Hand Peterson, of 1591 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Peterson was born in Kings Mt., NC, March 13, 1973, a son of Evelyn Peterson and the late Harvey Lee Peterson. He was retired from Footstar in Gaffney and was a self-employed taxidermist. Mr. Peterson was a loving and devoted son, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Ashley Danielle Cool and husband Jeremy of Union and Brittany Nicole Peterson of Greenwood; a son, Hunter Issacs Lee Peterson of the home; a special friend; Frankie Campbell of the home; a sister, Jonnie Peterson; a brother, Timothy Peterson both of Blackburn; his maternal grandmother, Ruth Peterson Davis of Shelby, NC; a great-grandson, Jackson Leeharvey “J.C.” Cool of Union and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Sam Baines. Burial will be at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Donald Jenkins

Mr. Donald D. “Sid”  Jenkins of Union, passed away March 19, 2017 after a brief illness. Donald was born May 29, 1926 in Dowagiac, Michigan, a son of the late Sydney and Jessie John Jenkins.

Donald was a World War II Veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from Torrington Co., in 1991 after forty years of service.

Surviving are a sister, Mildred Popp of Aurora, OR; a sister-in-law, Sandra Jenkins of St. Joseph, MI; a stepson, Ivan Bradley (Gaile) of Lansing MI; granddaughters: Margaret Souayah  of Chicago, IL and Valerie Wallace (Craig) of Bieth, Scotland; grandsons: William and Ronald Bradley of Lansing, MI; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to Donald’s parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Larry Jenkins.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 25, 2017 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Malachi Rodgers.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM in the chapel prior to the service.

Final services and burial will be held in Michigan at a later date.

Judy Ivey Medford
Union, SC


Mrs. Judy Ivey Medford, age 75, of 1667 Meadow Woods Rd., Union, widow of Wayne David Medford, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Medford was born in Brevard, NC on December 28, 1941 a daughter of the late Arthur Hope Ivey and Ferrell Gregory Ivey Palmer.  She was the oldest grandchild of the late BC and Anna Ivey.  Mrs. Medford was a devoted member of Buffalo Baptist Church where she served on various committees and was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.  She was a master gardener, an avid plant collector and was a member of the Good Neighbors Garden Club.  Mrs. Medford owned and operated Andy’s of Buffalo, prior to that she had worked for many at A&P Grocery where she had been assistant manager.  She later worked at Fresh Air Galaxy.

Surviving are three daughters, Tonya Proctor and husband Kenny of Union, Shelia Lawson and Danny of Weaverville, NC, and Sally Medford and fiancée Scott Malone of Union; one son, Greg Medford and wife Renea of Union; three sisters, Sue Cudd and husband Julian, Vicki Nalls, and Joan Penland and husband Randy all of Union;  seven grandchildren, Dave Proctor of Columbia, Vance Edens of Union, Luke Edens of Union, Robert Ashmore of Union, Suzanne Smith and husband Chris of Buffalo, Connor Medford of Buffalo, and Ivey Grace Medford of Buffalo; three great grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Isabelle Smith, and Colton Ashmore all of Union.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, March 24, 2017 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Lynn Ford, Rev. Tim Anderson, and Rev. Jack Buchanan.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Medford’s Grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Andy’s of Buffalo.  The Staff and Nurses of Medi Home Hospice and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Buffalo Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Betty Fowler Linder age 77, formerly of Pacolet, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Mountain View Nursing Home in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Union Co., December 23, 1939, a daughter of the late Ernest Boyd Fowler and Bernice Gossett Fowler. She was a member of Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandy Threadgill and husband Winfred of Spartanburg, and Candy Rector and husband Ricky of Woodruff; a sister Martha Wells and husband Michell of Pacolet; two grandchildren, Jessica Wells and husband Richard of Spartanburg and Brandon Howell and wife Ashley of Rougemont, NC; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Montgomery United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Mack McDowell. Burial will be at Pacolet Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Mr. Dennis Lynn Fallaw, age 62, of 300 Maple St., Union, passed away, Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Fallaw was born on January 6, 1955 in Union, SC a son of the late Arthur Eugene Fallaw and Mary Elizabeth Lemaster Fallaw.  He was retired from PepsiCo as Merchandizing Representative.  Mr. Fallaw was formerly employed with Milliken & Co. and Stoffer’s in Gaffney.  He was of the Baptist Faith.  Mr. Fallaw was a former member of the BPO Elks Lodge No. 1321 and the Jaycee’s.

Surviving are one son, Chris Fallaw and wife Alicia of Mount Airy, NC; one brother, Ricky Fallaw and wife Janice of Lockhart; a special friend, Sherrie Murphy of Union; three grandsons, McKenly Fallaw, Westin Fallaw, and Rhett Fallaw; one nephew, Scott Fallaw of Charleston; and beloved pet dogs, Boss Man and Princess.  He was predeceased by one infant brother, Darryl Mark Fallaw.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Mr. Lewis Edward Horne, age 87, husband of 67 years to Mamie Lou Roark Horne of 500 Toney Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Horne was born in Union Co., February 6, 1930, a son of the late Frank “Hoss” Horne and Nannie Vanderford Horne. He was retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant and was a member of Glory Baptist Church.  Mr. Horne loved fishing, cutting grass, his church and his family. Mr. Horne was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Barbara McCall Crayne and husband Phil; a son, Bobby Horne and wife Betty all of Union; three grandchildren, Kacie Petrie and husband Shane, Megan McCall and Jessica Levister and one great-grandchild, Carson Petrie. Mr. Horne was predeceased by a daughter, Kathy Horne Little, six sisters, and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Glory Baptist Church, 1100 Riley Rd., Union, SC 29379, conducted by Pastor Lee Franklin and Pastor Brad Goodale. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. John Edward Duncan, Sr., age 82, of 65 Pelican Harbor Spur, Cross Hill, widower of Brenda Dover Duncan, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Hospice of Laurens Co. Hospice Home.

Mr. Duncan was born in Fairmont, June 23, 1934, a son of the late Thomas Jefferson “T.J.” Duncan and Willie Mae Harris Duncan.  He retired from Inman Mills in Enoree and was of the Baptist faith.  Mr. Duncan was an avid golfer and fisherman.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Joni Duncan Wilson and husband Joey of Clinton; three sons, John E. Duncan, Jr. and wife Katie of Cross Hill, Joey Michael Duncan and wife Debby of Waterloo and John E.  Duncan, III of Laurens; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, March 24, 2017 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dorothy Bennett Brawley, age 82, of 765 Old Ferry Rd., Union, widow of Nelson “Lucky” Brawley, Sr., passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Brawley was born in Union, February 15, 1935, a daughter of the late R.J. Bennett and Elizabeth Hull Bennett. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and earned her nursing degree from the University of South Carolina.  She retired as a registered nurse and was a lifelong member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Merredith Brawley of the home; a son, Nelson Brawley, Jr. and wife Roxanne of Union; a brother, Charles Bennett and wife Mary Ann of Morganton, NC; a granddaughter, Nikki Carter of Union; a grandson, Patrick Lynch, Jr. of TX; and a great-grandson, Pratt Carter of Union. Mrs. Brawley was predeceased by two daughters, Michelle Elizabeth Brawley and Mary Barbara Ann Lynch and five brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Scott Charles “Scotty” “Scotty-D” Darling, Jr., age 28, of 238 Haywood St., Buffalo, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Mr. Darling was born in Middletown, CT, December 8, 1988, a son of Theresa Guerton Darling of the home and the late Scott C. Darling, Sr.  He was formerly employed with Dollar General Distribution and was currently working construction in Anderson.

Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Krystal Krpata Darling of Union; three sons, Kaegan, Brayden and Aydan Darling all of GA; a sister, Kaycee Darling and friend “Dee” Wylie; a brother, Cody Darling; his step-mother, Karen Darling; a step-sister, Patricia Sorrell all  of Buffalo; a step-son, Kaleb Varner; a step-daughter, Kyleigh Varner both of Union; his maternal grandmother, Rosella Guerton of Buffalo; his maternal grandfather, Dale Guerton of FL; his paternal grandmother, Linda Darling Parker of GA; his aunt and uncle, Sharon and Bill Silas of CT; two nephews, Hunter and Noah Brock of Buffalo and his best friends, T.J. Roberts, Rashad Cosom, and Chad Miller. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Fred Darling.

Mr. James Donald “Puddle Duck” Gregory, age 81, husband of Rachel Vaughan Gregory of 156 Brown’s Creek Rd., Union, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Gregory was born July 30, 1935 in Union, SC a son of the late Claude Gregory and Mattie Palmer Gregory.  He was a retired Supervisor from Cone Mill.  Mr. Gregory was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and served on various other church committees.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Mark Gregory and wife Melissa of Union; two granddaughters, Emma Kate Gregory and Abby Grace Gregory, both of Union; two brothers-in-law, Blaine Welborne and Don Vaughan and wife Fran; four sisters-in-law, Sara Sprouse, Betty Harmon, Nancy Anderson and husband Les, and Dianne Roark and husband Russell. He was predeceased by three sisters, Josie Vaughan, Elizabeth Gregory, and Stella Morris; five brothers, Toby Gregory, Ray Gregory, Ned Gregory, Ted Gregory, and Shorty Gregory; two brothers-in-law, Gene Harmon and Bobby Sprouse; and one sister-in-law, Mary Welborne.

Funeral services will be held, 11:00 AM Friday, March 17, 2017 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Helen McBride Fowler, age 82, widow of James W. Fowler, formerly of 141 Park Drive, Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Jonesville, SC July 25, 1934, one of six daughters to the late Ernest McBride and Lillie Rochester McBride. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired as assistant clerk with the City of Jonesville Town Hall. Mrs. Fowler was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church where she had served as a former Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Happy Hearts.

Surviving are three daughters: Rhonda Herring of Spartanburg, Andrea Smith and husband Eddie of Union, and Billie Morgan and husband Charles of Duncan; three sisters: Muriel Freeman of Jonesville, Carol Faucette of Union and Emily Eaves of Jonesville; two grandchildren: Olivia C. Sweat and husband Jamie and Hillary Smith and a great-granddaughter, Maveric Sweat. Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by a son-in-law, Daryl Herring and two sisters, Ernestine Vaughan and Geraldine Ivey.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 17, 2017 at Jonesville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Cannon ad Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church cemetery.

Nancy Lewis Wilburn

Mrs. Nancy Lavinia Lewis Wilburn, age 89, of 211 Park Dr., Union, widow of Jack Thomas Wilburn, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Wilburn was born on December 14, 1927 in Charleston, SC a daughter of the late Col. Marion Smith Lewis and Nancy McLawhorn Lewis.  She graduated from Memminger High School in Charleston and attended the College of Charleston. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Winthrop University, a B.S. in Music with an emphasis on Pipe Organ and Music Education, and a Master of Arts in Teaching respectively.  Mrs. Wilburn’s teaching career began in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina and continued in Spartanburg, Orangeburg, and Union, South Carolina, with the majority spent at Union Academy and Foster Park Elementary School.  She retired after 35 years as an elementary and music educator.

Mrs. Wilburn was a member of First Baptist Church of Union, Third Monday Book Club, Union Music Club, Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library, Union County Arts Council and Union County Historical Society.  In addition to her many interest, her life was filled with music and she had an avid love of classical music and the pipe organ.  She was the organist at Second Presbyterian Church in Union for 16 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Wilburn Kennedy and her husband Leroy of Union and Linda Wilburn Weber of Summerville, SC; three grandchildren, Patrick Wilburn Kennedy of Union; Matthew McLawhorn Kennedy and his wife Elizabeth of Memphis, TN and Carolina Koran Weber of Summerville, SC; three sisters, Lou Lewis Prongay of Winston Salem, NC, Ann Lewis Austin of Cambridge, MA and Marion Lewis King of Lakewood, CO; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. David Bauknight and Rev. Ron Davis.  Burial will follow in Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Rosie Fowler Winzenried, age 64 of 121 Barnado Rd., Apt. 16, Union, widow of Gary Winzenried, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Winzenried was born in Union, SC July 12, 1952, a daughter of the late Lewis Fowler and Eva Mae Fowler Ray. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Winzenried was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Surviving are two daughters: Monica Garner and Kayce Bates (Paul) all of Union; a son, Joey Winzenried (Summer); a son-in-law, Wilson Bates, Jr of Union; eight grandchildren: Kayson Bates, Kayleigh Bates, Britt Garner, Ashley Winzenried, Jospeh Ridings, Haley Casstevens, Hannah Upton and Joshua Upton; five great-grandchildren: Adrian Winzenried, Aiden Ridings, Harmonee Sky Garner, Mason Colbert and Skylar Casstevens; two brothers: Bobby Fowler (Joyce) and Dennis Fowler (Cheryl); three sisters: Kathy Martin, Doris Rogers(Mitch) and Sara Garrett (Bryant); two aunts: Mary Price and Carolyn Patrick and a host of family and friends.  Mrs Winzsenried was predeceased by a son, Gary Winzenried, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt and Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Freida Spake Ivey, age 80 of 101 Charlesworth Avenue, Union, widow of Julian H. Ivey, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Regional Hospice House.

Mrs. Ivey was born in Pacolet Mills, SC September 29, 1936, a daughter of the late Wellington Spake and Ella Robinette Spake She was a 1954 graduate of Pacolet High School and Cecil’s Business College. Mrs. Ivey retired as a legal secretary from Atty. Bruce White’s Office and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Ivey was a loving and devoted mother who enjoyed traveling to the Tennessee Mountains, cooking and spending time with her family. She was also an avid fan of the USC Gamcocks. Mrs. Ivey was a resident of Iverness of Spartanburg, where she was lovingly cared for by the nurses and staff.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan Ivey Cunningham and husband Jamy; a son, Randall Kent Ivey all of Union; a grandson, Jay Cunningham of Presbyterian College, Clinton; a sister, Evelyn Spake Kelly of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Jean Ivey Price of Union and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ivey was predeceased by a sister, Frances Horne and three brothers, Charles, Robert and Houston Spake.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. David Bauknight. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Lonnie C “L.C.” Johnson, age 75 of 411 Pineland Rd., Union, widower of Alice Victoria Lee Johnson, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Johnson was born in Union, SC February 28, 1942, a son of the late James Johnson and Eloise Scales Johnson. He retired from Union County School System and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir. Mr. Johnson was a Veteran of the US Army.

Surviving are five daughters: Tiffany Scott Moss and husband Matthew, Clarissa Johnson and fiancée Spencer Horne, Cheri McKee Harris and husband Wayne, Janet Weaver and Cammy Weaver Canupp all of Union; a son, Dalton Michael Johnson of Union; two brothers: Jerry Johnson and wife Gail and Lynn Johnson and wife Debra all of Union; six grandchildren: Victoria Rada Lynnlee Moss, Tinsley McKelle Dawn Moss, Bentley David Horne, Madelynn Lee Horne, Emily Canupp and James Canupp. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by two brothers, Ray Johnson and Curtis Johnson.

Mr. Mack W. Oliver, Jr., age 78, formerly of Union, SC, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Piney Grove Nursing Home, Kernersville, NC.

Mr. Oliver was born in Union, SC May 20, 1938, a son of the late Mack Wilson Oliver, Sr. and Sallie Elizabeth Willard Oliver. He was a graduate of Union High School and South Eastern University, Washington, DC. Mr. Oliver retired from textiles in management and was of the Methodist Faith. He was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard, a Shriner, a Mason and also a member of the Lions Club. Mr. Oliver was formerly married to Judy Lawson Oliver formerly of Union.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Wooten and husband Bill of Kernersville NC; two grandchildren: Ashely Wooten Bennett and husband Vane and William Wooten. Mr. Oliver was predeceased by a brother, Harold Oliver.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 12, 2017 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Debra Adams “Debbie” Conard, age 61, wife of Joel Conard of 904 Canal Rd., Lockhart, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Conard was born June 6, 1955 in Flint, MI a daughter of the late William Douglas “Billy” Adams and Edna Myrtle Ham Adams.  She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and USC Upstate where she received her bachelor of science in nursing.  Mrs. Conard was the Day Care Director for Mt. View Nursing Home in Spartanburg.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Brad Conard and wife Michelle of Lockhart; one daughter, Ashley Heatherly of the home; one brother Donnie Adams of Lockhart; two grandchildren, Madyson Conard and Cameron Heatherly.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, March 10, 2017 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Sam Baines and Rev. Dudley Thomas.  Burial will follow at Lockhart Cemetery.

Mr. David E. “Shade Tree” Fowler, age 71 of 901 Lover’s Lane Rd., Union, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Fowler was born in Union, November 9, 1945, a son of the late Woodrow “Fuzz” Fowler and Argel Arnold Fowler Sumner. He was a retired auto mechanic and owner of Fowler’s Radiator Shop.  Mr. Fowler was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters; Kelly Roark and husband Mike of Myrtle Beach and Kathy Marino of Union; a son, David Kevin Fowler and wife Amika of Pacolet; a sister, Diane Taus and husband Vic of Union; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a step-sister, Diane Sumner Burgess and husband Lloyd of Jonesville and two step-brothers, Roger Sumner and wife Sadie of Union and Nathan Sumner and wife Pat of Jonesville. Mr. Fowler was predeceased by two brothers, Ronnie Fowler and Lonnie “Dude” Fowler.

A memorial service will be held 3:00PM Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess. A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00PM at the chapel prior to the services.

Mr. Gowan was born in Union, SC March 31, 1958 a son of the late Charles Richard Gowan and Helen Louise Tucker Gowan.  He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Monarch Mill.  Mr. Gowan was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Daniel Lee Gowan and David Alan Gowan both of Union; one brother, Charles Richard Gowan, II of Union; and three grandchildren, Daniel Alan Gowan, Brianne Nicole Gowan and Charles David Gowan.

Mrs. Corrie Gladys Hamrick Moss, age 85 of 1310 W. Main St., Union widow of Frank Nathan Moss passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. 

Mrs. Moss was born in Dorchester, SC November 11, 1931 a daughter of the late Lewis Carl Hamrick and Dorotha Simmons Hamrick.  She was retired from Oakmont Nursing Home and had previously worked at Fun Time Daycare and Bumble Bee Daycare.  Mrs. Moss was a faithful member of Morningside Baptist Church where she served on the Lord’s Supper Committee, a Prayer Warrior, and worked with the Children of the Church. 

Surviving are one daughter, Leslie Belue of Union; two sons, Bobby Frank Moss and wife Brenda and Lewis Carl Moss all of Union; one brother Charles Cummings and wife Carolyn of Bryon, GA; three grandchildren, Miranda Chavez of St. Matthews, Nicholas Jordan Moss and Christopher Moss and wife Jasmine all of Union; great-grandchildren, Erik, Logan and Camden Chavez all of St. Matthews and Kaitlyn, Blake, Christopher, Jr., and Owen all of Union; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Frances Porter, Bertie McElveen, Jane Leonhardt, and Shula Cummings.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, March 10, 2017 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Alun Horne Gregory, age 99, of 812 Forest St., Jonesville, widow of Robert J. Gregory passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Gregory was born in Cherokee County on July 6, 1917 a daughter of the late Jesse J. Horne and Grace Horne Horne.  She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from J.P. Stevens Manufacturing.  Mrs. Gregory was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church where she enjoyed being member of the “Happy Hearts” and was also a member of the Jonesville Senior Citizens Group.  Mrs. Gregory and her sister Loree enjoyed visiting with their many friends in the Jonesville Community.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are one son, Jim Gregory and wife Rosemary of Jonesville and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by one sister, Loree Horne and two brothers, Lamar Horne and J.T. Horne.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 10, 2017 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Scott Cannon.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Mrs. Wycoff was born in Cherokee County, SC May 5, 1931, a daughter of the late Liston Lee and Annie Mae McCullough Lee. She was a member of Mesopotamia United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Cathy Wycoff of Gaffney, Janet Jones and husband Terry of York and Elaine Webster and husband Chris of Gaffney; four sons: Harry Joe Wycoff and wife Margaret of York, Danny Lee Wycoff and wife Carolyn of Gaffney, Butch Wycoff of York and Bobby Charles Wycoff and fiancée Moni of Gaffney; four sisters: Evelyn Garner of Gaffney, Jean Ivey of Spartanburg, Ann Newton of Gaffney and Mary Smith and husband Franklin of York; two brothers: Johnston Lee and wife Nancy and Jerry Lee all of Gaffney; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Wycoff was predeceased by a grandson, Cody Williamson.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, March 10, 2017 at Mesopotamia United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Joey Shetley and Rev. Tommy Hill.

Mr. Larry A. “Foots” Lawson, age 64, husband of Patricia Mitchell Lawson of 120 Pinewood Acres Rd., Union, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Lawson was born in Spartanburg, October 22, 1952 a son of Guy Copeland of Union and the late Martha Lawson Copeland. He was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and was a member of the BPOE Lodge # 1321. Mr. Lawson was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and father are a son, David Lawson and wife Miranda of Ft. Lewis, WA; two sisters, Tammy Davis and Marlene Davis both of Union; and five grandchildren, Christian, Walker, Jack, Hattie, and Blake Lawson. Mr. Lawson was predeceased by a son, Larry Anthony Lawson, Jr. and a brother, Charles Allen.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Moringside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert.

Mr. Bruce Reginald Morris, age 70, husband of Mary Coleman Morris of 122 Sunset Rd., Union, passed away Saturday evening, March 4, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Morris was born in Union, October 17, 1946, a son of the late Wilbur Douglas Morris and Mary Frances Palmer Morris. He was a 1965 graduate of Union High School and attended USC-Union. Mr. Morris retired as owner of Morris Service Station in Monarch and had previously worked with Torrington Co. He was a former member of the S.C. National Guard and was an active supporter and member of the NRA. Mr. Morris was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kimberly M. Lawson and husband Scott and Kelly M. Small and husband Michael all of Union; a step-daughter, Tracy W. Vermillion and husband Jon of Blythewood; a step-son, Troy E. Wright and wife Jennifer of Union; a sister, Kathy M. Meador of Spartanburg and a brother, Ricky L. Morris and wife Kathy of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Kannon, Kaleb and Mason Small, Jordan and Jakob Lawson, Kourtney, Karson and Karrah Vermillion and Amelia and Ian Wright.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union, April 29, 1954, a daughter of the late Ernest Inman, Sr. and Laura Inman Inman. She was retired from Hamrick Mills and was a member of Skull Shoals Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Lori Ann Crenshaw of the home; a sister Alma Durham and husband Alvin of Pacolet; three brothers, Larry Inman and wife Becky and Allen Inman all of Chesnee and Ernest Inman, Jr. of Union; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by four children, four sisters, and four brothers.

Mrs. Waldrop was born in Whitmire, SC August 31, 1946 a daughter of the late D.F. Horne and Lillie Mae Lackey Horne. She was graduate of Whitmire High School and retired from Milliken & Co. She was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church and had previously been a member of Weslynn United Methodist Church in Whitmire.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Donna Renee Jolly and husband Mark of Union and Cynthia Faye Williams and husband Paul of Buffalo; five grandchildren, Dawn Kaufman and husband Joel, Jonathan Stines, Katie Ralston and husband Robert, Matthew Stines, and Emily Williams; three great-grandchildren, Alex Kaufman, Eian Kaufman, and William Kaufman; and two sisters, Kathy Rodgers of Jonesville and Bobbie Shytle and husband Gerald of Inman. She was predeceased by one sister, Anita Knight.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Silvers Pridemore, age 73, of 3008 Whitmire Highway, Union, widow of Robert G. Pridemore, Sr., went to her Heavenly home Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Pridemore was born in Union, SC October 13, 1943 a daughter of the late Frank Silvers and Mary Cope Silvers.  She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Cone Mill Carlisle Finishing Plant after 30 years of service.  Mrs. Pridemore was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church where she served on several committees over the years.  She was a member Broad River Electrical Co-Op Committee and was very devoted to the Union County Relay for Life.

Surviving are two sons, Robert G. Pridemore, Jr. and wife Christine of Union and Todd E. Pridemore and wife Dawn of Olivebranch, MS; two sisters, Michelle McLeod and husband Stanley of Greenville and Vicki Grady and husband Robert of Union; one brother, Gary Silvers and wife Minnie of Union; five grandchildren, Cassidy Pridemore, Alex Pridemore and fiancée Annie Willard, Marla P. Vinson and husband Adam, Joshua Pridemore and wife Tiffany, and Brittany P. Mr. Bell was born in Union, SC December 3, 1931 a son of the late Leber Bell and Bessie Johns Bell.  He was a 1949 graduate of Union High School and retired from the United States Postal Service—Union Post Office.  Mr. Bell was a Veteran of the United States Air Forces during the Korean Conflict.  He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir, the Men’s Class and a Deacon.  Mr. Bell was past chair of the Union County Recreation Commission and past Post Commander of American Legion Post 22. He was a member of Union Masonic Lodge #75, York Rite Temple, and the Hejaz Shrine Temple.  Mr. Bell was a former member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the University of South Carolina Gamecock Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, one daughter, Anita Latham of Columbia; two sons, Tommy Bell and wife Leslie of Ellington, FL and Wayne Bell and wife Denise of Saluda, SC; nine grandchildren, Kristy Waddell and husband Wayne, Elizabeth Bell and fiancée Shannon Gregory, Geoffrey Latham and wife Keely, Kacie Latham and husband David Tollison, Austin Bell, Ty Bell, Noah Bell, Barrett Lollis, and Lindsay Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Hayden Ham and Autumn Latham; and one brother-in-law, Donald Ray Sanders and wife Cherryl of Union.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 3, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tommy Vaughn.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Geoffrey Latham, Austin Bell, Ty Bell, Noah Bell, Wayne Waddell, Shannon Gregory, David Tollison, and Dale Latham.  The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, the Men’s Sunday School Class of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Wilbur Smith, Odis Edwin Fuller, Donald Ray Sanders, Dr. Jeff Craft, Dr. Bill Sawyer, Dr. Tom Young, Ned Bell, William Smith, Bobby Fleming, Don Shetley, Sam White, Randy Wilburn, Benji Reynolds, Tommy Anthony and David Rogers.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
