    Gussie Mae Farr Comer, 93, widow of Emerson Comer, formerly of Kelton, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Oakmont Nursing Center after a brief illness.
    Mrs. Comer was born in Kelton, April 28, 1911, a daughter of the late Richard C. and Ethel Pauline Inman Farr. She was retired from Milliken & Co., Excelsior Plant, and was a member of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church.
    Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy C. and L.D. Gallman of North Charleston and Mary F. and Ellic Prince of Whitmire; two sisters, Virginia Farr of Union and Grace Lown of Lexington; seven grandchildren and a number of great and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Comer was predeceased by a daughter, Natalie C. Youngblood; a sister, Norma Alman; and a brother, Archie Farr.
    Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. today at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by Rev. Steve Lemons. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
    Active pallbearers will be Larry Lancaster, Richie Lancaster, Phillip Gallman, Terry Youngblood, Carroll Thompson and Wayne Comer.
    The following are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 3:15 p.m. today to form the honorary escort, John Earl Alman, Buddy Alman, Bo Ham, Hubert Farr, Harold Holcombe, Hope Holcombe, Mike Vaughan, Danny Comer and Toney Farr.
    The family received friends Sunday night from 7-9 at the funeral home.
Memorial may be made to Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church.

Retired from Cone Mills
James Bobby Gault, 68, husband of Shirley Morris Gault, 225 Deepwater Road, Union, died at his residence Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at 8:15 p.m.
Mr. Gault was born in Union July 17, 1936, a son of the late Lloyd Thomas Gault and Mary Louise Bailey Gault. He was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. Mr. Gault was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Cone Mills-Carlisle Finishing Plant.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Bonnie Louise Gault of the home; a sister, Rebecca G. Bishop and husband Mont of Union; a brother-in-law, Joe W. Estes of Lexington; three grandchildren, Christine H. Cribbs and husband John of Spartanburg, Brandi A. Vinson and William “Gene” Vinson III both of the home; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Alexis Cribbs of Spartanburg and Nicholas O’Ryan Vinson of the home. Mr. Gault was predeceased by a granddaughter, Gena Nichole Vinson and a sister, Mable G. Estes.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Angelia Price. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Abraham Lincoln Moss, 79, husband of Dorris Thomas Moss of 219 Westview Drive, Union, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at his home.
    Mr. Moss was born in Valley Falls, Dec. 18, 1925, a son of the late Thomas Bates Moss and Gaston Defoix Cook Moss. He was retired from Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant. He was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church. Mr. Moss was a member of the Rutledge Lodge 351 where he had served as a past master. He was also a member of the York Rite Bodies, a Shriner and an Ambassador of the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
    Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Ray and Becky Moss of Union, a sister, Mary Denney of Seneca; three grandchildren, Tracy Owens and husband Jeff of Buffalo, Tami Gilbert and husband David of Rogersville, Tenn., and Tiffany Smith and husband David of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren, Brennen, Zachery and Spencer Owens, Whitney, Austin, Devin and Erin Gilbert and Savannah Smith.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tommy Bailey and the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
    Active pallbearers will be Ralph Moss, Kent Orr, Gene Shetley, Ansel Gilliam, Clifford Brown and Dean Brown.

    Helen Gamble Vanderford, 80, widow of Coley B. Vanderford, formerly of 207 Wilbur St., Union, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a priod of declining health.
    Mrs. Vanderford was born in Hickory Grove, June 2, 1924, a daughter of the late James R. and Wilma Harrill Gamble. She was a graduate of Hickory Grove High School and was retired from Conso Products. Mrs. Vanderfod was a member of the former Westside Baptit Church, now Cretview Baptist Church, and was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. To many she was known as “Nana.” She loved to cook, sew and do for others. Mrs. Vanderford was the last survivor of 10 children in her immediate famiy.
    Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne V. and John Glenn of Union; a son, and daughter-in-law Johnny R. and Dianne Vanderford of Santuc; an adopted daughter, Sherry Summer Chapman of Joneville; four grandchildren, John H. and wife April Glenn, Richard Vanderford, Shane Vanderford and Wendie Paige; and two greatgrandchildren, Ryan Riddle and Jordan Riddle.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens.
    Acive pallbearers were Alex Chapman, Tim Pridemore, Benny Gibson Ronnie Cooper, Monte Stanford and Gerone Brooks.
    Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Gibson and Roger Sumner.
    The family received friends Sunday night at the funeral home.

    Marvin Hope “Shorty” Montgomery, 78, of 3521 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at 9:45 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.
    Mr. Montgomery was born in Cherokee County on Aug. 18, 1926, a son of the late W.F. Montgomery and Mary Burns Montgomery. He was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and was retired from Conso Products. Mr. Montgomery was a Methodist.
    Surviving are a sister, Nettie Faye M. Bentley and her husband, the Rev. Jesse Bentley of Union; two brothers, Clifton Montgomery and wife Reba of Union and William Keaton Montgomery of Spartanburg and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Montgomery was predeceased by three sisters and a brother, Nora Montgomery, Ruby Goforth, Sudie M. Fowler and D.B. Montgomery.
    Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Alan Quarles, Mr. Bob Humphries and the Rev. Brad Goodale.
    Mr. Montgomery’s nephews are asked to assemble at the cemetery Friday at 1:45 p.m. to serve as honorary escorts.
    The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9.

    Stella Cooper Allen, 96, of 300 Bird St., Union, widow of Ernest “Dick” Allen, died at her residence Saturday morning, Dec. 25, 2004.
    Mrs. Allen was born in Wise County, Va., on May 12, 1908, a daughter of the late James William Cooper and Susan Caldwell Cooper. She attended Lincoln Elementary and Seiver Junior High Schools in Kingsport Tenn., and was a former textile employee and former owner and operator with her husband of the original Duncan Road Produce. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church.
    She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
    Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Allen Wilson of the home; four grandchildren, Brandon Hagan, reared in the home, Phillip Hagan and wife Kim and Beth Foster, all of Union and Laura Graham and husband Fred of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; five greatgrandchildren, Shane Adams, Sarah Foster, Jordan Hagan, Ashley Hagan, and Hagan Graham; and a great-grandson, Jonathan Adams. Mrs. Allen was predeceased by a brother, Cecil A. Cooper Sr.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Tuesday at Unity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Clayton Price and the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at the Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery in Spartanburg County.
    Active pallbearers will be Phillip Hagan, Brandon Hagan, Jordan Hagan, Fred Graham, Michael Foster and Shane Adams.
    The following are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Lee Brock, Jan Hagan, Clark Canupp, Michael Cohen, Jimmy Allen, Paul Allen Jr., David Cohen, Mickey Gist, Leroy Harris Sr., and James Lane. Katherine Hollifield Conard, 63, of 707 Old Ferry Road, Union, widow of Edward “Pose” Conard, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at 6:20 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.
    Mrs. Conard was born in Asheville, N.C., on Oct. 15, 1941, a daughter of the late Oscar and Eloise Wallen Hollifield. She was a graduate of Chester High School and was formerly employed with Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant.
    Surviving are a daughter, Roxanne Lee and husband Randy of Union; a son, Joey Conard and wife Debra of Lockhart; two sisters, Irma H. Chitwood and Juanita H. Abercrombie, both of Chester; two brothers, Johnnie Hollifield of Fort Lawn and Tommy Hollifield of Chester; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lockhart First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ben Hill. Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery.

Frank D. Lipsey     Retired municipal judge     JONESVILLE — Frank D. Lipsey, 96, of 301 Forest St., Jonesville, widower of Bernice P. Lipsey, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at 7:40 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.     Mr. Lipsey was born in Cherokee County on Feb. 28, 1908, a son of the late Bunyan and Enzie Harris Lipsey. He was a member of the Jonesville Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, former director of the Brotherhood and director of Training Union. Mr. Lipsey was retired from J.P. Stevens Co., Jonesville Plant, and was also a retired municipal judge for the Town of Jonesville.     Surviving are two daughters: Jane Addis and Sherry Gregory, both of Jonesville; a sister, Violet Ivey of Union; and 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Lipsey was predeceased by two daughters, and a son, Dorothy Moss, Frances Holt and Harold (Bud) Lipsey, three brothers and four sisters.     Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Jonesville Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown and the Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer. Gregory Jr.     World War II veteran     John Wesley Gregory Jr., 78, of 3067 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, husband of Lorena Hyder Gregory, died at his residence Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at 5:15 p.m. after an extended illness.     Mr. Gregory was born in Adamsburg on April 20, 1926, a son of the late John Wesley Gregory Sr., and Eura Burgess Gregory. He was a graduate of Clemson University Class of 1951 and had been a member of IPTAY for 42 years. He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church and a member of the Spartanburg Cattleman’s Association and was formerly employed with Carolina Eastern. Mr. Gregory was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.     He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.     Surviving in addition to is wife are two daughters, Glynda Karabinos and husband Jerry of Spartanburg and Betsy Stone and husband Bobby of Belmont, N.C.; a son, John Wesley Gregory III and wife Linda of Simpsonville, six grandchildren, Meredith Karabinos and Allison Karabinos, both of Spartanburg, Charlie Stone of Belmont, and Lindsay Gregory, Abigale Gregory and Wesley Gregory, all of Simpsonville.
