Elizabeth L. Ridgeway
    Retired bookkeeper
    Elizabeth Lawson Ridgeway, 80, widow of William H. Ridgeway, Jr., died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 at Oakmont Nursing Home.
    Mrs. Ridgeway was born in Union, Aug. 2, 1925, a daughter of the late James V. Lawson and Sarah Vaughan Lawson. She was a graduate of Union High School, Class of 1942, and was a retired bookkeeper. Mrs. Ridgeway was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.
    Surviving are: a son, John Robert Lawson and wife Ruth of Kokomo, Ind.; four sisters, Anne Patrick and Patricia Vanderford, both of Union, Sarah Childers of Lockhart and Jean Harvey of Gaffney; four brothers, Lloyd Lawson of Adamsburg, Joe G. Lawson and Donald R. “Ducky” Lawson, both of Union and Bob Lawson of Kokomo, Ind.; three grandsons, Steve Lawson and wife Katie of Indianapolis, Ind., Dakota Lawson and Kyle Lawson, both of Kokomo, Ind.; a greatgranddaughter, Morgan Lawson of Indianapolis, Ind.; a number of nieces and nephews and a dear friend and cousin, Ruth Ann Tucker of Duncan. Mrs. Ridgeway was predeceased by three brothers, James V. “Pete” Lawson Jr., William “Cotton” Lawson and Oliver Fred Lawson..
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Active pallbearers will be the following nephews: Bob Patrick, David Patrick, Gregg Lawson, Brian Childers, Tripp Vanderford, Russ Harvey, Ricky Lawson, Scott Lawson and Josh Lawson.
    The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Philippi Baptist Church Building Fund, 327 Philippi Church Road, Union, S.C. 29379.
    The family is at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Patrick, 3307 Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C. 29379.

John R. Bradburn
    World War II veteran
    John Richard Bradburn, 83, formerly of 515 S. Boyce St., Union, widower of Helen Frances Hines Bradburn, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
    Mr. Bradburn was born in Union, Feb. 4, 1923, the son of the late Richard Joseph Bradburn and Sadie Maude Rippey Bradburn. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, a former Deacon, a Head Usher and greeter for many years. Mr. Bradburn retired from Cone Mills and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in World War II.
    Survivors are: two daughters, Jerry O’Shields and husband Larry of Union and Sue B. Stephens and husband Ott of Louisville, Ga., four grandchildren, the Rev. Brad Goodale and Allison Waters, both of Union, Angela Hullender and Mark Stephens, both of Ringgold, Ga.; a sister, Barbara Everingham of Hendersonville, N.C.; two brothers, Joe Bradburn of Union and Sam Bradburn of Hendersonville, N.C., and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Bradburn was predeceased by a sister, Ada Belle Huntley and two brothers, Harold Bradburn and Ray Bradburn.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons, the Rev. George Turbeville and the Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
    Active pallbearers will be Mark Stephens, Jamie Waters, Joey Hines, Eddie Hines, James Coffer, Garland Hullender, John Andrew Goodale, Jessie Fleming and Mel Everingham.

    Guynell Davis
    Retired from United Merchants
    JONESVILLE — Guynell Davis, 89, formerly of Arthur Boulevard, Union, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
    Miss Davis was born in Pauline, April 17, 1916, the daughter of the late Guy Davis and Lelia Gregory Davis. She retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was an active member of Bogansville United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted.
    Miss Davis was a loving grandmother and greatgrandmother to the following three grandchildren, Darlene Robinson and husband David of Jonesville, Danny Davis of Union and Dale Davis and wife Darlene of Jonesville; five great-grandchildren, Matt Robinson, Paige Robinson, Olivia Davis, Nichole Davis and Dalaney Davis; a great-great-grandchild, Jacob Lee Crawford; two sisters, Margaret Gowan and Thelma Farner, both of Union; a brother, Marvin Davis of Union; a number of nieces and nephews. Miss Davis was predeceased by a son, Jerry Davis; two sisters, Ruth Davis and Mable Gist; and three brothers, Ken Davis, Joe Davis and Bernard Davis.
    Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 6, 2006, at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Gary Peterson.
    Active pallbearers were Danny Davis, Dale Davis, Mat Robinson, David Robinson, Stevie Davis and Harold Lawson.
    The family received friends at the church following the service.

    Iva Smith Duncan

    Iva Smith Duncan, 90, of 216 Raymond Road, Union, widow of Mack Daniel Duncan, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at her home.
    Mrs. Duncan was born in Newport, Tenn. Jan. 28, 1916, the daughter of the late Lawson Smith and Macie Gaddy Smith Duncan. She attended Calvary Christian Center.
    Survivors are: two daughters, Louise Sprouse of Union and Ruth Estes and husband Donald of Sedalia; three sons, Raymond Duncan and wife Bessie, Ralph Duncan and wife Mary and Billy Joe Duncan, all of Union; a brother, Fred Smith of Washington State, 12 grandchildren, Eddie and Rhonda Duncan, Jimmy and Beth Hawkins, Gettys and Tammy Knox, Jill Duncan, Steve and Tina Lipsey, Jamie and Connie Smith, Wayne and Kaye Smith, Jimmy and Stephanie Estes, Donnie and Amanda Estes, Danny Brittin, David Brittin, Bobby and Angie Pristwood, Joe and Tanya Duncan; 22 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Duncan was predeceased by three sons, Jim Duncan, Terry Duncan and Bobby Duncan; two sisters, Mae Fallow and Margie Mooney; three brothers, Claude Smith, Clyde Smith and Luther Smith, and a great-grandchild, Nikki Nelson.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 6, 2006, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conduced by Pastor Ted Oldaker and Carol Oldaker. Burial was in Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Duncan’s grandsons served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Estes and Eddie Duncan.
    The family received friends Sunday at the funeral home.

    Lewis “Chok’um” Freeman, 85, husband of Mary Jane Small Freeman of 609 Toney Road, Union, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Oakmont of Union.
    Mr. Freeman was born in Whitestone, Sept. 29, 1920, the son of the late Elmer Freeman and Fannie Lavender Freeman. He retired from United Merchants and was a member of the Church of Christ.
    Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Wilson Freeman and wife Chris of Boiling Springs; four grandchildren, Emily Freeman of Canada, Corey Freeman, Tabitha Jackson and Christie Smith, all of Spartanburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Freeman was predeceased by three sisters and a brother, Bertha Cody, Carrie Gallman, Frances Mode and Sam Freeman.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Minister Jesse Ham. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.

CLINTON — Daniel Paul Wood, 69, of 304 Jacobs Highway, Clinton, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at National Health Care of Clinton.
   Mr. Wood was born in Union, May 22, 1936, the son of the late Daniel Wood and Willie Austin Wood. He attended Tanglewood Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Milliken & Co., EMMD.
   Survivors are: a brother, James Earl Wood of Union; four sisters, Dianne W. Webb of Joanna, Gayle Wood of Union, Pamela W. Vaughan of Union and Darlene W. Scogin of Joanna; seven nephews, David Berry, Stephen Berry and Cory Vaughan, all of Union, Jonathan Scogin, Danny Webb and Mark Webb, all of Joanna, and Jeff Wood of Roebuck; four nieces, Crystal Eubanks of Union, Leigh Anne Scogin of Joanna, Brooke Vaughan of Union and Karen Johnson of Clinton; six great-nephews and two greatnieces.
   Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
   Active pallbearers will be Odis Davis, Charles Davis, Dennis Davis, Burton Bates, David Berry and Stephen Berry.

Curtis L. Tucker

BUFFFALO — Curtis Lee Tucker, 76, husband of Elizabeth Callahan Tucker of 213 Gin Circle, Buffalo, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
   Mr. Tucker was born in the Mt. Lebanon community of Spar tanburg County Aug. 22, 1929, the son of the late Jewitt T. Tucker and Agatha Pruitt Tucker. Mr. Tucker was a lifelong member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, a member of the Redmen Tribe of Buffalo and an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He coached the Men’s, Women’s and Co-Ed Church League Softball teams and the Dixie Youth for many years. Mr. Tucker played with the Buffalo Mill baseball team during the 1950s and 1960s. He retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and the Torrington Co. He was a loving “Papa” to his grandchildren.
   Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Sharon Coats and husband Wade of Buffalo and Stephanie Bentley and husband George of Powdersville; a son, Steve Tucker and wife Debbie of Union; two sisters, Agnes Inabinett and husband Ronald of Buffalo and Bessie Pfeiffer and husband Ray of Florida; a brother-in-law, Irving Billings of Buffalo; 10 grandchildren, Justin Maness, Karla Maness, Kenneth Bentley, Beth Tucker, Kyle Tucker, Jason Burbage, Jon-Michael Burbage, Whitney Garner, Matt Coats and Rex Coats; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Grace Burbage and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Tucker was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers, Annie Pearl Sanford, Beatrice Billings, Barbara Jean Tucker, Callie Tucker and P.D. Tucker.
   Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Randy Pettit and the Rev. Forest Davis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Active pallbearers will be Dean Tucker, Richard Tucker, Ray Tucker, Wayne Tucker, Don Tucker and Jerry Tucker.

John H. Glenn Sr. 59, of 1703 Union Blvd., Union, husband of Dianne Vanderford Glenn, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at 9:43 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
   Mr. Glenn was born in Union on Nov. 11, 1946, a son of the late Coy E. Glenn Sr. and Lillie Mae Hornaday Glenn. He was a graduate of Union High School, a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Union unit. He was of the Baptist faith, a Mason and a Shriner and was employed with INA Bearings of Spartanburg.
   Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, John H. Glenn Jr. and wife April of Union; a brother, Coy E. Glenn Jr. of Tifton, Ga.; a grandson, Jake Glenn of Union and a number of nieces and nephews. John will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather by his family.
   Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Union Memorial Gardens conductedd by the Rev. Jerry Lawson.
   Active pallbearers will be Rick Davis, Robert Morris, Craig Glenn, Scot Glenn, Monte Stanford and Jackie Groves.
   The following are asked to assemble at Union Memorial Gardens Friday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Ronnie Cooper and Nelson Mills.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6:30 until 8:30.

K. Macklin Grider, 66, husband of Fredia Smith Grider, of 1504 Whitmire Highway, Union, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
   Mr. Grider was born in Stevenson, Ala., a son of Ruth Arnold Grider Allen of Stevenson and the late Forrest Grider and his step-father, the late Carl “Shug” Allen. Mr. Grider was a graduate of Auburn University and was retired from textile management. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a mason.
   Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Laura Grider of Woodstock, Ga. and Elizabeth Palian and husband Bill and their children Samantha and Charlie, all of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Jim Grider and wife Shaney McDaniel Grider and their children, Emma and Anna, all of Madison, Ala.; two sisters, Barbara G. Caperton of Stevenson, Ala. and Anna Carol A. Mackey of Kennesaw, Ga.. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Grider was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, States and Janet Smith.
   Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 13, 2006, at Union Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Jerry Lawson.
   The family received friends Sunday night at the funeral home.

Ruth S. Huggins

Ruth Senn Huggins, 89, widow of Charles F. Huggins of 107 Wilson St., Union, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at Oakmont Nursing Center after a period of declining health.
   Mrs. Huggins was born in Enoree, March 23, 1916, a daughter of the late Leonard Boyd Senn and Leila Stevens Senn. Mrs. Huggins was a graduate of Cross Anchor High School and a life-long member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church where she taught the Primary Sunday School Class for 25 years and was the Sunbeam Leader for 15 years. Mrs. Huggins was principal of the Vacation Bible School of the church for several years, and conducted the assembly for intermediate and junior pupils. She was assembly leader for the adults and taught study courses for the G.A.’s of the church. Mrs. Huggins was also assistant teacher of the ladies Ophelia Duke Sunday School Class and was secretary of the Sunday School department for 25 years where she ordered and distributed books to the 13 classrooms. She also served as church reporter and recording secretary. Mrs. Huggins was a correspondent for The Union Daily Times where she wrote the “Cross Keys News” for 60 years. She also served on the Union County Fair Association for 36 years where she worked in the fancy work department.
   Surviving are a sister, Grace S. Poole of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law, Esther S. Senn of Union; special cousin, Jerry Crowe of Enoree and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Huggins was predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude S Williamson and Sue S. Blackwell and three brothers, Leland Emerson Senn, Leonard Boyd Senn Jr. and Nathan Ray Senn.
   Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Carroll Caldwell and the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Active pallbearers will be:Jerry Crowe, Terry Crowe, Edwin Grady, Jack Burnett, Buck Buckner, Wayne Cooke, John Brown and Jim Rice.
   The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the burial.

Clara Mobley Peigler, 86, widow of Wallace Peigler, formerly of North Enterprise St., Union, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at the Conway Medical Center after a long illness.
   Mrs. Peigler was born in Union, Jan. 2, 1920, a daughter of the late Jack and Annie Mae Tucker Mobley. She was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil’s Business College in Spartanburg. Mrs. Peigler retired as credit manager with Derrick Motor Co. and Roper Chevrolet in Union and was formerly employed with Sears Roebuck and Co. for 20 years. She was a life long member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a member of the BPO Elks Does’ Drove where she had served as officer and was named Doe of the Year on two occasions.
   Mrs. Peigler was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, David Mobley and wife Kim of Loris, Suzette Northern of Union, Martha Yarborough and husband David of Union, Tommy Mathis of Union, Jack Mobley of Rock Hill and Debbie Davenport of Lugoff. Mrs. Peigler was predeceased by a sister, Mary Mathis and two brothers, Dan Mobley and Bill Mobley.
   Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at Union Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Roger Plemmons.
   Active pallbearers will be Joey Northern, Matthew Northern, Jason Yarborough, Ken Peigler, Andy Littlejohn and Tom Jones.
   The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

ROCK HILL — Kathryn J. Hunt, 74, wife of Donald Hunt, of 1839 Charter Drive, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at her home.
   A private graveside service will be held at the Jeter Family Cemetery in Santuc.
   A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at the Northwest Chapel of Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill by the Rev. Steve Hogg, the Rev. Charles Lucas and the Rev. Dr. Larry Sizemore.
   A native of Union County , Mrs. Hunt was the daughter of the late William Hobson Sr. and Kathryn Nix Jeter of Union. She was retired from the S.C. Employment Security Commission in Spartanburg. She was a member of Rock Hill First Baptist Church where she was active in local and statewide Woman’s Missionary Union, Senior Adult Prime Timers, and the Joy Choir. She was also a member and past state president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha service sorority and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution
   Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Meg Hunt of Taylors, Susan H. Rudisill and husband Rick Rudisill and grandsons Jacob and Payton Rudisill of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, William H. Jeter Jr. and wife Susanne S. Jeter of Charleston and Rebecca West of Taylors.

BUFFALO — Ronald Newton Pridemore, 58, husband of Mary Estes Pridemore of 176 Spring Valley Lane, Buffalo, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Hospital Downtown in Augusta, Ga.
   Mr. Pridemore was born in Greenville June 24, 1947, the son of Elizabeth Betty Gregory Pridemore of Union and the late Elmer Kyle Pridemore Sr. He graduated from Union High School and USC-Union and was formerly employed with USC-Union as a computer lab assistant. Mr. Pridemore was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church and the Union County CB Club.
   Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, LaDonya Hallman and husband Tim of Columbia; two sons, David Pridemore and George Pridemore, both of Union; two brothers, Elmer Kyle Pridemore Jr. of Clinton and Tim Pridemore of Union and two grandchildren, Miranda and A.J. Pridemore, both of Columbia.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Carroll Caldwell and the Rev. Ron Fumes. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.
   Active pallbearers will be Grady Carson, Jimmy Estes, Robert Williams, John Williams, Deanie Gault, Danny Pridemore, Bud Whitmire and Timothy “Tim-Bo” Pridemore.

J.T. Cudd
World War II veteran    

John Thomas “J. T. “ Cudd, 81, husband of Bobbie Ruth Greer Cudd of 1644 Jonesville Highway, Union, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at his home.
   Mr. Cudd was born in Kelton Aug. 16, 1924, a son of the late John Henry Cudd and Leila Goings Cudd. He graduated from Kelly Pinckney High School and retired from the S.C. Department o f Corrections, Industrial Division. Mr. Cudd was a fifty year member of Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge #203, a member of the Union York Rites Body and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.
   Mr. Cudd was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
   Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years are a daughter, Susan James and husband Michael of Greenville; two sons, David Cudd and wife Donna of Union and Ricky Cudd and wife Tammy of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, Candice Hardiman and husband Jeff, Jon Cudd, Richie Cudd and wife Wendy and Brittany Cudd; two great grandchildren, Storm and Jamie Cudd. Mr. Cudd was predeceased by five brothers, Furman Cudd, Hodges Cudd, Harold Cudd, H.C. Cudd and Walter Cudd and two sisters, Grace Vaughan and Martha Turner.
   Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert.
   Active pallbearers will be Don Vaughan, Robert Cudd, Buddy Cudd Sr., Tommy Cudd, Steve Greer, Joey Nichols, Julian Cudd and Keith Pingleton.
   Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home,

Rev. Coy R. Miller    
Former Union pastor    

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Rev. Coy R. Miller, 95, husband of Pauline Kesler Miller of Salisbury, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at the Rowan Regional Medical Center.
   Rev. Miller served as pastor of Philippi Baptist Church in Union from 1948 through 1957 when he left to serve at Blacksburg First Baptist Church in Blacksburg. After serving several churches in South Carolina and North Carolina, he retired at his home church in Salisbury.
   Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons and their wives, Ted M. and Vareesa Miller of Salisbury, Joel C. and June Miller of Union and Clarence and Jetanna Miller of Blacksburg; five grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister.
   Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at Trading Ford Baptist Church in Salisbury. Burial was in the church cemetery.

James W. Hollingsworth Sr.

James W. “Jim” Hollingsworth Sr., 79, widower of Ruth Louise Jackson Hollingsworth, formerly of 219 Haas St., Monarch Community, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 in the home of his son at 1547 S.C. Highway. 66 in Whitmire.
   Mr. Hollingsworth was born in Union Nov. 30, 1926, a son of the late Lawrence Culbreath Hollingsworth and Lillian Willard Hollingsworth. He retired from Torrington Co. and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hollingsworth was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
   Surviving are a son, James W. Hollingsworth Jr. of Whitmire, a brother, Henry Hollingsworth of Union; a sister, Hortense Sinclair of Union; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Hollingsworth was predeceased by a brother and two sisters, Doff Lawrence Hollingsworth, Dorothy Hollingsworth Spindler and Ester Hollingsworth Morrison and a granddaughter, Angela Dana Hollingsworth.
   Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
   Active pallbearers will be Tim Hollingsworth, Terry Hollingsworth, Frank Morrison, Randy Morrison, Dennis Sinclair and Lynn Sinclair.
   Memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church Building Fund, 112 Bates Ave., Union, S.C. 29379.
