Mr. William Leon Garner, age 80, widower of Bobbie Jane Keith Garner, of 1229 Meansville Rd., went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 26, 2024.
Mr. Garner was born in Union, February 22, 1944, a son of the late Everette Leon Garner and Evelyn Levister Garner. He was a 1963 graduate of Jonesville High School and retired after 44 years in grocery service having worked for Community Cash, Piggly Wiggly and IGA. He served in the S.C. National Guard for two and a half years. He avid ham radio operator with the call letters, WD4RAR Silent Key, and was a very active member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.
Mr. Garner was a member of the Union County Council on Aging and often drove the van.
Surviving are a daughter, Carrie L. Walters of the home; two brothers, Gerald Garner of Lockhart and Dwight Garner and wife Mary of Chester; and a grandson, James R. Warr and wife Brittany. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Alex Warr, Catie Warr, Landen Warr; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Hamilton of Union and Sara Sealy of Aiken; three nieces, Roseanne Sullens of Chesnee, Chasity Wilson of Blacksburg, and Karyn Bland of Edgefield; a nephew, Keith Hamilton; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to Agape Hospice and the Dialysis Clinic of Union for their care of Mr. Garner.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Dr. Tom Tucker. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00 PM prior to the services at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mon Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379 or to Agape Hospice, 516 E. Main St. Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family will be at the home, 1229 Meansville Rd., Union.
