Mrs. Gloria Margaret Little Barnette, 78, wife of Paul A. Barnette of Union died Friday, July 29, 2005 in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Barnette was born March 23, 1927 in Kelton, the daughter of the late William J. and Grace Kitchens Little. She attended Kelly-Pinckney High School and the Waldrop School of Cosmetology in Greenville. Mrs. Barnette was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy School Class.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Jenny B. and husband Evans Crocker of Union; a son, Paul Little and wife Marsha Whitehead Barnette of Sumter. She was the proud grandmother of Kim Barnette, Kacie Barnette, Mary Evans Crocker and Tyler Crocker. Also surviving are a brother, Alan M. Little of Jonesville; two sisters, Ann L. Adams of Santuc and Rebecca L. Garner of Jonesville; a number of special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barnette was predeceased by a sister, Jean L. Garner.

Funeral services were Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Union’s First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers were Todd Little, John Garner, Jake Black, Gerald Barnette, Bill Garner and Richard Garner.

The family is at the home of her daughter and son-inlaw, Jenny B. and Evans Crocker, 773 Tinker Creek Rd., Union, S. C. 29379.

GAFFNEY — Mrs. Bennie Camp LeMaster, 89, of 422 South Limestone St., Gaffney, died at her home Sunday, July 31, 2005. She was the widow of Dr. Hamlet Wilkins LeMaster.

Mrs. LeMaster was born in Cherokee County, the daughter of the late William Clark and Sallie Elmore Camp. She was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church and a former school teacher.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Judy L. Bailey and husband, Roger, of Union and Miss Nancy J. LeMaster of Pendleton; two grandchildren, Catherine Bailey Childers and husband, Jason and Miss Nancy Brooke Bailey; a great grandson, William Bailey Childers, all of Union and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. LeMaster was predeceased by two brothers, and a sister, Dwine Camp, Shaw Franklin Camp and Lorene C. Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at the Shuford Hatcher Funeral Chapel on East Frederick St., Gaffney, conducted by the Rev. Sidney Norten and the Rev. Dr. Roger Aycock. Burial will be in the Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at Shuford Hatcher Funeral Home prior to the service. The family is at the home, 422 South Limestone St., Gaffney. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

John O. Reynolds Sr.

Mr. John O. Reynolds Sr., 43, husband of Luanne Oswalt Reynolds died Saturday, July 30, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Reynolds was born Dec. 5, 1961, the son of Robert J. Reynolds Sr. and the late Shirley Jenkins Reynolds. He had attended Union High School and was a textile worker and a member of the Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and father are his stepmother, Mable Reynolds of Union; two daughters, Miranda Reynolds of the home and Shirley Reynolds of Florida; three sons, John O. Reynolds Jr. of Spartanburg, Joseph Reynolds of Union and Bobby Reynolds of Florida; a stepdaughter, Regina Messer of Union; four stepsons, Robert Pettit of the home, Mark Pettit II and R.O. Williams, both of Union and Timothy Oswalt of Buffalo; a brother, Robert “Jimmy” Reynolds Jr. of Jonesville; three sisters, Clara Robinette of Santuc, Emily Eaddy of Pacolet and Debbie Judy of Michigan; two stepsisters, Annette Southerland and Margaret Melton, both of Lockhart.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert Jarvis. Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Pettit, Robert Pettit, Chad Pettit, Tyler Lane, Kyle Roberts and Tim McAbee. The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday night. BUFFALO — Mr. Kute Doyle Anthony, 64, of 825 Flat Drive, Buffalo, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 in Bayonne, NJ.

Mr. Anthony was born Aug. 19, 1940, the son of the late Roy Thomas and Ruth Hyde Anthony. He was owner and operator of Anthony Leasing. Mr. Anthony was a member of the Aviation Pilots Association and Independent Trucker’s Association and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Julie Mason and husband Calvin of Fountain Inn, Mary Jane Anthony of the home and Joan Skelton of Mauldin; a son, Thomas Anthony and wife Susan of Fountain Inn; a significant other, Dianne Pardue of Wall, NJ; two brothers, Carlie Anthony and wife Becky of Union and Thomas Anthony of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Joyce Turner and husband G.W. of Jonesville and Geraldine Greene of Stanley, NC; six grandchildren, Calvin Mason, Jr., Anthony Mason, Jessica Taylor, Christa Fortner, Travis Anthony and Thomas Anthony III,. Special friends, William Barnard, Patricia and Kevin Rowland and Sean Pardue, all of New Jersey and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Roger Byrd. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Sean Pardue, Kevin Rowland, Dr. Daniel Bozza, Calvin Mason Jr., Anthony Mason and Billy Vinson.

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Holcombe Blair, 93, of 511 Haney Cemetery Road, Union, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005 at her home after a brief illness. She was the widow of Roy Franklin Blair.

Mrs. Blair was born in Union County, Aug. 25, 1911, a daughter of the late J. B. “Jake” and Madge Wood Holcombe. She graduated from Lockhart High School and attended Winthrop College. She was a member of Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church and the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class. Mrs. Blair was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a real granddaughter of the Daughters of the Confederacy, William Wallace Chapter #660 and the Kelton Clemson Extension Homemakers Club. She attended the Lockhart senior Citizens Center daily.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Belue and husband Drexell of Sharon and Sandra West and husband Billy Wayne of Union; a son, Don Blair and wife Linda of Little Rock, Ark; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005, at Foster’s Chapel united Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell West, Michael West, Mark Garrett, Steve McIntyre, Don “Beau” Blair Jr., and Daniel May.

Members of the Lockhart Senior Citizens Center and members of the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

Cindy Gayle Haney Gibson, 48, of 554 Thornridge Road, Union, wife of Samuel Gibson, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005.

Mrs. Gibson was born July 15, 1957, a daughter of the late Will Franklin and Daisy Boulware Haney. She was a homemaker and attended the Monarch Assembly of God Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Bradley DePratter and Chris Haney and wife Jennifer, all of Union; seven sisters, Jean Turner of the home, Sandra West of Buffalo, Rosa Moore of Buffalo, Maggie Miller of Hartsville, Ga., Linda McClaster of Clarksville, Ga., Vernelle Pruitt of Buffalo, and Vanessa Hogan of Cheraw; three brothers, Michael Haney and Gerald Haney of Buffalo and William Haney of Union; two grandchildren, Celest Haney and Jacob Haney of Union; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy H. Justice and two brothers, James Haney and Clyde Haney.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jerry Hargrove. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Jacqueline Canupp Doster White, 64, wife of W.L. White of Haines City, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2005 after a sudden illness.

Mrs. White was born in Union, March 4, 1941, a daughter of Robert Hill and Wilford Laverne Crocker Canupp.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Frances Doster Taylor of Baltimore, Md., and Barbara Jean Doster of Conway; a son, James E. Doster Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, Brandi LaGrange, James E. Doster II, Jessica Doster and Anna Marie Doster.

Mrs. White was predeceased by a daughter, Martha Doster LaGrange.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Bullock’s Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

JONESVILLE — Frank W. Parker, 70, husband of Sadie Robinson Parker of 362 Robinson Farm Road, Jonesville went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005 after a brief illness.

Mr. Parker was born in Pacolet Mills Oct. 6, 1934, the son of the late Alonzo Roosevelt and Myrtle Lillie Tollison Parker. He was a retired mechanic from Harley Bag Co. Mr. Parker was a member of the Potter’s House Church of Jonesville and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Michelle Blackwell and husband Brian of Pacolet; two sons, Kenny Parker and wife Kelly and Todd Parker and wife Stacy, all of Jonesville; nine grandchildren, Lauren Blackwell, Brantley Blackwell, Carrigan Blackwell, Dustin Parker, Michael Simmerman, Nicholas Dennard, Aaron Dennard, Ashley Parker and Ethan Parker. Mr. Parker was predeceased by a sister, Betty Fisher.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 at The Potter’s House conducted by the Rev. Donnie Moore, the Rev. Andy Carrigan and the Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will be in the Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Ross was born July 8, 1979, a daughter of James E. Gault and the late Nancy Wix Fowler. She was the stepdaughter of Tammy Gault; the granddaughter of Kathleen Gault and the late Buddy Gault and Nancy Wix and the step-granddaughter of Sara and Ronald Heatherly and Douglas Howell, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Freedom Baptist Church of Newberry.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters, Amy, Kayla, Kasie and Tiffany Ross of the home; a step-son, Lee Ross of Newberry; three sisters; Amanda Gault, Jessica Gault and Allison Gault; a step-sister, Crystal Haney; five halfsisters, Courtney Petty, Crystal Bostic, Maggie Gault, Kristi Sisk and Holly McAbee; a brother, Kevin Gault, two step-brothers, Allen Millwood and Wesley Millwood, four half-brothers, Bo Gault, Gene Gault, J.J. Gault and Scotty McAbee. Mrs. Ross was predeceased by a brother, Jeremiah O’Dell.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, in the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe and the Rev. Scott Cobb. Cora Jean Wright Kershaw, wife of James C. Kershaw Sr., of 523 McLure St., Union, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at Spartanburg Regional Health Care Systems.

Mrs. Kershaw was born in Union Jan. 1, 1945, a daughter of the late Amzy and Bessie Moss Wright. She was a graduate of Sims High School and was employed by Union County Schools as a personal assistant.

Surviving in addition to her husband are six children, Bessie A. (Samuel) Davis of Chester, Cora J. (Lonnell) Rice, James C. (Cicily) Kershaw Jr., Angela K. (Willie) Kelly, Sherry L. (Larry) Foster, and Immanuel N. (Melissa) Kershaw, all of Union; two sisters, Athaleta McCrae of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Ora Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa.; 15 grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall. Burial will be in St. Paul Society Cemetery.

The Gibson & Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Nettie C. Sealey
Retired from Her Majesty

Nettie Catherine Sealey, 84, of 207 S. Sixth St., Lockhart, died Aug. 8, 2005 in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Miss Sealey was born March 18, 1921, a daughter of the late Iverson Dauthard and Julia Vanderford Sealey. She was retired from Her Majesty and previously worked at Lockhart Mill. Miss Sealey was a member of the Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church and the Lockhart Senior Citizens Club.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Miss Sealey was predeceased by four sisters and a brother, Rhonda S. Whisnant, Ruth Sealey Davis, Mae Sealey Burns, Bessie Sealey Cookson and S.D. Sealey.
Miss Sealey is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 at the Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brian Bishop, the Rev. Frank Cantrell and the Rev. Mike Hatch. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Elizabeth Sprouse O’Sheilds, 80, of 310 Hicks St., Union, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005 in Wallace Thomson Hospital after declining health.

Mrs. O’Shields was born in Union, Jan. 26, 1925, the daughter of the late Clyde Eveston and Carrie Fowler Sprouse. She graduated from Union High School and was retired from United Merchants & Manufacturing, Union Plant, and was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Gregory and husband J.T. of Union; a son, Clyde “Brother” Jennings and wife Marlene of Union; six grandchildren, Wendi and Mark Foster of Union, Clint Hutcherson and special friend Carmen Gill of Garden City, Shane Jennings and wife Tammy of Jonesville, Brad Gregory and special friend Maryanne Byrd, Brook Baldwin and husband Buck and Jamison Gregory and wife Dana, all of Union and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Mrs. Alton Stone.

The family will receive friends 6:30 until 8 p.m. following the memorial service Thursday.

Ruby Louise Rector Farr, 73, of 207 Cottage Ave., Union, widow of Leroy Farr, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005 at 1 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Farr was born in Union on Nov. 21, 1931, a daughter of the late Jerry and Alva Adams Rector. She was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Wilburn’s on Main and Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Farr was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are three sons, Tommy Farr and wife Kathy of Pauline, Mike Farr of the home and Jerry Farr of Union; she was predeceased by a son, Danny Farr. Also surviving are two brothers, Elmer Rector and wife Deanie of Union and Billy Davis of Cherry Grove; a sister, Alma Burgess of Columbia; seven grandchildren, April Thomason, T.J. Farr, Daniel Farr, Alexis Farr, Olivia Farr, John Farr and Michael Farr; and a great-grandchild, Carsyn Thomson.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons.

The following are asked to assemble at Union Memorial Gardens Thursday at 10:45 a.m. to form the honorary escort Eddie Rector, T.J. Farr, Ian Thomson, Michael Farr, John Farr, Howard Burgess Jr. and Daniel Farr.

Miss Connie Faye Brown, 52, of 207 Second Ave., Union, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005 at her home after a brief illness.

Miss Brown was born in Union on July 9, 1953, the daughter of the late Jesse and Edna Parks Brown. She was employed with H&H Metal Works in Union and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are four sisters, her twin, Bonnie Tucker of Buffalo, Pansy Barber of Union, Rebecca Smith of Pauline and Janice Pruitt of Williston; a brother, Terry Brown of Union; many beloved nieces and nephews and three special friends, Larry Heaton, JoAnn Heaton and Dee Ann Moore of H&H Metal Works.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Frances Casey Stewart, 84, wife of William Douglas Stewart of 4716 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy, Union, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005 at her home.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Lockhart Oct. 7, 1920, a daughter of the late L.C. and Ella Porter Casey. She was retired from Milliken & Co., Lockhart Plant, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockhart.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Cecelia S. James and husband Harold of Greer and Camelia Garrison and husband Frank of Birmingham, AL; two sisters, Lucille Adams of Lancaster and Ruby Allen of Lockhart; three grandchildren, Stewart James, Stephanie James and Wes Garrison; a great-grandson, Will Garrison; care givers Rose Seibert, Laura Moss, Marie Youngblood, Cindy Inman and Margaret Braddock.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Billy Summer and the Rev. Ben Hill.

Roy M. Youngblood

JONESVILLE — Mr. Roy M. Youngblood, 74, husband of Phyllis Fleming Youngblood, of 122 Park Dr., Jonesville, died suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Youngblood was born Jan. 5, 1931 in Buffalo, the son of the late Wilson B. and Minnie Calton Youngblood. He retired from United Merchants Inc., Buffalo Plant and was a member of Gilead Baptist Church. Mr. Youngblood was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart medals. He was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Debbie Youngblood of Jonesville and Lisa Youngblood of Pauline; two sons, Ray Youngblood and wife Phyllis of Jonesville and Roy Eugene Youngblood of Union; a brother, Ray Youngblood of Buffalo; six grandchildren, Donna and Brian Youngblood, Jim and Nicole Greer, Brooke Youngblood, Chad Maness and Rocky Maness; six great grandchildren, Cody and Chance Youngblood, Kayla and Destine Davis, Madison Maness and Trey Maness; two special friends, Steve Ayers of Jonesville and William Moss of Pauline. He was predeceased by six brothers, Buck, Finus, Doe, Lee, Ralph and Jack Youngblood; a sister, Evelyn Youngblood; two halfsisters, Nora Adair and Ola Crow and a great-grandchild, Harley Maness.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Lawton Neely. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Maryland Casualty Insurance retiree

John Charles Walters, 101, of 236 River Hills Rd., Union, passed way Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 at his residence after a short illness.

Born in Baltimore, MD, May 19, 1904, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Schreiber and Leonard Walters. He was an accountant and retired after 50 years at Maryland Casualty Insurance Co. He moved to Union in 1992 to be with his daughter and son-inlaw.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon L. Rupp and son-inlaw, Michael Rupp of the home; a son, Gilbert H. Walters of Baltimore; two nieces, Betty L. Kalb of Union and Pamela Keller and her husband, William, of Baltimore; a special grand niece, Debra Buchanan and husband Stephen of Jonesville and a grand nephew, Matthew Kalb and wife Kim of Baltimore.

The family is at the residence. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church or to The Salvation Army of Union.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Retired from Cone Mills

Marvin “Buck” Gregory, 76, husband of Helen Sinclair Gregory, of 436 Pineneedle Road, Union, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005 at 4:07 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended battle with cancer.

Mr. Gregory was born in Union County on June 11, 1929, a son of the late Robert Russell and Maudie Jett Gregory and step-son of the late Ruth Sanders Honeycutt. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Cone Mills, Carlisle Finishing Plant. Mr. Gregory was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Sandra Nance and husband Travis of Buffalo and Sherry Fisher and husband Clint of Union/Cross; four sons, Danny Gregory and wife Sherry of Jonesville, Steve Gregory and wife Vicki, Gene Gregory and wife Toni and Gerald Gregory and wife Darlene, all of Union; a sister, Shirley G. Teague and husband Curt of Union; ten grandchildren, Tara Bright and husband Jeffrey, Nicki Ivey and husband Jim, all of Jonesville; Darlene Howell and husband Ronnie of Buffalo; Brook Henderson and husband Kevin, Tiffany Bobo and husband Chris, Matthew Gregory, Jacob Gregory, Gerald Gregory, Megan Gregory, all of Union, and Dustin Quinn of Buffalo; eight great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and two step= great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers, Lucille Robinson, Sara Eaves, W.D. Gregory and James Gregory.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funereal Chapel conducted by the Rev. Johnny Burgess and the Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Matthew Gregory, Gerald Gregory Jr., Ronnie Lipsey, Kenny Lewis, Kevin Henderson an David Eaves.

Larry Lawson “Bo” Parks, 65, husband of Charlotte Kingsmore Parks of 468 Mt. Vernon Road, Union, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005 at 5:15 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Parks was born in Union on March 7, 1940, a son of Sara Johnson Medford of Union and the late Weaver Medford and the late Floyd Parks. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a former member of the S.C. National Guard Union Unit. Mr. Parks was a graduate of Union High School and attended Clemson University and was retired from Torrington Company, Tyger River Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Holly Parks Coffer and husband Jay of Union and Jill Parks-Westbrook of Rock Hill; a sister, Judy Parks Ivey and husband Bob of Prosperity and four grandchildren, Nick and Hannah Coffer of Union, Connor and Olivia Westbrook of Rock Hill.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons and the Rev. Bennie Green.

James William Shaw Sr., 81, of 821 S. Duncan By-Pass, Union, husband of Martha Ivey Shaw, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005 at 1:35 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Shaw was born in Union on Aug. 10, 1924, a son of the late Lewis Shaw and Lucy Sanders Shaw. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mr. Shaw was a graduate of Cecil’s Business College and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from Cone Mills, Carlisle Finishing Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a granddaughter, Allyson Shaw Ayers of Santuc; three great-grandchildren, Brett Ayers, Austin Ayers and Berri Aliza Beth Ayers, all of Santuc; a daughter-in-law, Judy J. Shaw of Santuc; and a special friend, Gene Harmon of Union. Mr. Shaw was predeceased by a son, James William Shaw Jr.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Mike Moody and the Rev. Roger Plemmons.

Bobby Gene Mitchell

UNION, SC-- Mr. Bobby Gene Mitchell, 74, husband of Muriel Wade Mitchell of 1230 Linersville Road, Buffalo, SC, died Thursday, August 25, 2005 at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia after a long illness.

Mr. Mitchell was born in Union, November 17, 1930, a son of the late I..H. Mitchell and Lenora Hall Mitchell. He was retired after 22 years with the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict and during the Vietnam era. Mr. Mitchell also retired from Litton Industries in Lexington after 17 years. He was a past commander of the VFW Post #3122 of Union and was an avid sportsman, enjoying football, fishing and hunting. Mr. Mitchell was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, George E. Mitchell and wife Betty of Jonesville; a sister-in-law, Paunese Holt Mitchell of Buffalo; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Mitchell was predeceased by a son, Bruce Anthony (Tony) Mitchell; and a brother, Billy Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Emory and Rev. Tim Driggers. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with full Military Rites.

ROEBUCK — Bobby H. O’Dell, 66, husband of Nellie Alexander of 569 Morris Bridge Road, Roebuck, died in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005 after a brief illness.

Mr. O’Dell was born in Jonesville Aug. 25, 1938, the son of the late William Henry and Winnie Gertrude Harvey O’Dell. He was a retired independent truck driver having last worked with Spartan Express and previously with Standard Trucking. Mr. O’Dell was a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Jonesville Unit, a member of the Prudence Masonic Lodge of Jonesville and member of Gilead Baptist Church. He was an avid horseman, loving father, grandfather and brother.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Melinda White and husband Robert of Spartanburg; three sons, Darrell O’Dell and wife Sandy of Spartanburg, Tim O’Dell and wife Vicki of Pacolet and Kevin O’Dell and wife Linda of Pauline; a stepdaughter, Joni Waldt of Pauline; two stepsons, Terry Alexander of Buffalo and Johnny Alexander Jr. of Spartanburg; a sister, Doris Hagan of Spartanburg; two brothers, Eddie O’Dell of Buffalo and Ronnie O’Dell and wife Cathy of Jonesville; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy, Isaac, Caleb, T.J. Cody, Cora, Tasha, Clay, Bradley, and Kelly; a godchild, Tori and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. O’Dell was predeceased by a sister, Helen Tisdale.

COLUMBIA —Lonie Moss Watkins, 86, of 3014 Kennedy St., Columbia, died at her home, Monday, Aug. 22, 2005.

Mrs. Watkins was born in Lancaster Mar. 12, 1919, a daughter of the late George homas Moss and Ida Kimbrell Moss. Mrs. Watkins was a retired seamstress and a retired nurse. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Sunset Congregation.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lonie Ann Johnson of Kenosha, Wis., Mrs. Sylvia Estle of Leesville, La. and Mrs. Elizabeth Gragg of Cornelius, N.C.; a son, Gary Watkins of Columbia; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Green of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

UNA — Bobby Gene Childers Sr., 59, husband of Rose Kelly Childers of 1251 Edgewood Ave., Una, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005 at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Childers was born Aug. 29, 1945, the son of Millus Childers of Una and the late Mable Dill Childers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired restaurant manager and a member of the Gold Prospectors Association of America. Mr. Childers graduated from Union High School and Cecil’s Business College. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife and father are two daughters, Kellie Lowery and Florissa Childers, both of Spartanburg; two sons, Bobby Gene Childers Jr. of Columbia and Brad Childers of Union; a sister, Frances Arlene Atkins of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at the Lockhart Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Millus Childers and the Rev. David Bosler with military honors. The family received friends Sunday night at the funeral home.

Herbert W. Johns Sr.
Retired textile worker

Herbert W. Johns Sr., 82, formerly of Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, widower of Dorothy Roark Johns died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Johns was born March 11, 1923 in Greenville, the son of the late Furman J. and Addie Edwards Johns. Mr. Johns was a retired textile worker and former professional musician. He was a member of the Church of God. He was the last surviving member of his immediatef amily.

Surviving are three daughters, Sara Jones of Union, Rachel Ramsey and Nancy Painter, both of Spartanburg; two sons, Herbert Johns Jr. and Harley A. Johns, both of Union; five grandchildren, Allen Johns and David Christopher Johns, both of Union, Cherish Ramsey of Spartanburg, Samantha Johns of Mississippi and Meredith Johns of Union.

Memorial services were held Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005 at the Union Church of God conducted by the Rev. Alton Stone and the Rev. William Adams. The family received friends prior to the service.

Leroy Roberts
World War II veteran

Leroy Roberts, 79, widower of Ruby Bullman Roberts, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 at National Health Care of Laurens after a long illness.

Mr. Roberts was born in Hartsville on July 4, 1926, the son of the late William Terry and Hattie Evelyn Strickland Roberts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. After serving in World War II Mr. Roberts joined the U.S. Air Force where he retired after 20 years of service. Upon his retirement from the Air Force he later retired from the Union County School System where he was a special education teacher. Mr. Roberts graduated from USC Upstate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Surviving are:a sister, Bernice Roberts Bush of Union; three brothers, Coleman Roberts, Billy O’Dell Roberts, both of Union and Bob Alton Roberts of Flint, Mich.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Roberts was predeceased by three sisters and a brother, Gaynelle Ray, Margaret Earls, Betty Jean Eubanks and Edward Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at the Union Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints conducted by President Leland Chapman Jr. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites.

Active pallbearers will be:Jack Earls Sr., Jack Earls Jr., John Earls, Billy Blackwood, Terry Roberts and Lee Martin.

The family received friends Sunday at the funeral home.
