Lillian Middlebrooks Gregory, 91, formerly of 624 Meansville Road, Union, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Gregory was the widow of Furman M. “Buck” Gregory.

Mrs. Gregory was born in Union Jan. 19, 1914, the daughter of the late James David Middlebrooks and Elizabeth Howell Middlebrooks. She was the last surviving charter member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Gregory was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of Bonham Home Demonstration Club. She retired from Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra G. Alexander and husband Ken of Laurens and Elizabeth G. Wilson and husband Barry of Chester; a son, Maurice Gregory Jr. and wife Toni of Gainesville, Ga.; six grandchildren, Greg Alexander, Jon Alexander, Amy Bishop, John Barry Wilson Jr., F. Maurice Gregory III and Alan C. Gregory; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2005 at the McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Reuben Wallace. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Greg Alexander, Jon Alexander, Chad Bishop, John Barry Wilson, F. Maurice Gregory III and Alan C. Gregory.

JONESVILLE — Hunter Alexis Bright, 9, of 1875 Jonesville Highway, daughter of Angela Lynn Peterson Bright and Shawn Haney, died at her home Friday, June 3, 2005, after a long illness.

Hunter was born in Spartanburg, Jan. 22, 1996, and was also the daughter of Roy Frank Bright of Pacolet. She was an honor student of Jonesville Elementary School, a member of the Haney’s Engine Repair Dixie Youth baseball team and a member of the Jonesville Police Explorers. Hunter was a member of Westside Baptist Church and attended youth programs at Jonesville United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are two sisters, Hallie Bright and Harleyjo Bright, both of the home; her maternal grandmother, Linda Williams of Union; her maternal grandfather, Robert T. West of Putman; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Carolyn Bright of Pacolet; her maternal great-grandmother, Marie Heatherly of Union; her maternal great-grandparents, Elbert and Barbara West of Putman; her step-paternal grandmother, Lucy A. Haney of Union; a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins and many dear friends, Hunter was predeceased by her maternal great-grandfather, Squire Joe Heatherly.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Roy Little, Larry Dean Lemon, Mark Shope, Michael Robinson, Gorge Gardin and Tommy Haney.

Martha Verona McKara Pool, 96, of 101 Brandon St., Union, widow of David Pool, formerly of 348 Pineneedle Road, Union, died at her residence Friday, June 3, 2005 at 8:50 a.m. after a brief illness.

Mrs. Pool was born in Belmont, Ohio on April 9, 1909, a daughter of the late Andrew McKara and Verona Aleva McKara. She was a loving, caring wife and mother and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses and a faithful Pioneer of Jehovah.

Surviving are:a daughter, Phyllis Schroer of Westminister, Calif., a bother, Arnold McKara of Bridgeport, Ohio; a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her care givers, Jessie and Jerry Wicks and Fred Bailey and special people who were her Spiritual Brothers and Sisters. She was predeceased by a sister and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses conducted by Elder Robert Tucker and Elder Arthur Stevens. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
Brothers of the Kingdom Hall will serve as active pallbearers.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the Kingdom Hall at 3:30 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.

JONESVILLE — Jean Little Garner, 79, widow of J. Harold Garner, of 1180 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, died Sunday, June 5, 2005 at her home at 11:45 a.m. after a brief illness.

Mrs. Garner was born in Kelton on Oct. 15, 1925, the daughter of the late William J. Little and Grace Kitchens Little.

Mrs. Garner was a 1942 graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and a 1943 graduate of Geyers Business College of Charlotte. Mrs. Garner was retired from the Department of Agriculture in Union and was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church.

Mrs. Garner is survived by a daughter, Caroline Black and husband Johnny of Jonesville; a son, Johnson Harold Garner Jr. and wife Kathy of Jonesville; three sisters, Mrs. Gloria Barnette and husband Paul of Union, Mrs. Anne Adams of Santuc, Mrs. Rebecca Garner and husband Kedrick of Jonesville; a brother, Allan Little and wife Joan of Jonesville; four grandchildren, Jake Black, Emily Baldwin, Hal Garner and Tracy Barnes; and three great-grandchildren, Baylie Black, Ben Black and Holli Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Mt. Joy Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan West. Burial will be in Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery.

Willie T. Vincent, 89, of 354 Police Club Road, Union died Sunday, June 5, 2005 at 6:20 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Vincent was born Sept. 5, 1915, the son of the late Dorsey H. Vincent and Nellie H. Vincent.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Clinton and was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant.

Surviving are two sons, Willie Thomas Vincent Jr. of Spartanburg and David Tillman Vincent of Anderson; three grandchildren, Jason Vincent, Shawn Vincent and Jenny Stafford; three great-grandchildren, Jayden Vincent, William Shawn Vincent and Mackenzie Vincent; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Vincent was predeceased by four sisters, Gladys V. Fullbright, Zelma V. Roof, Pearl V. Gall and Sadie V. Queen; and four brothers, Fred Vincent, Leonard Vincent, Cleadus Vincent and Everette Vincent.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel at 12 noon by Pastor Alex Romanov. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon prior to the service.

Rev. Paul C. Moore
World War II veteran

The Rev. Paul C. Moore, 81, widower of Etrulia I. Moore, formerly of 313 W. South St., Union, died Wednesday morning at 5:25 a.m. at Oakmont Nursing Center after an extended illness.

Rev. Moore was born in Union, May 27, 1924, a son of the late Jud and Ola Cannon Moore. He was a retired Southern Baptist minister having pastored churches throughout South Carolina for more than 45 years. He was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College, Furman University and attended the Southeastern Theological Seminary. Rev. Moore was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters, Paula M. Williams and husband Bill of Easley and Laurie Moore of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Thomas C. Moore and wife Letitia of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Aubrey Moore of Shelby, N.C.; three grandsons, Travis Williams of Greer, Ethan Moore of Charlotte and Josh Moore of Clarksville, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter, Amber Ingle of Greer. Rev. Moore was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Ford and the Rev. Austin Bennett. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Paul D. Taylor, 71, husband of Sue Bradley Taylor of 506 Old Union Road, Lockhart, died Monday, June 6, 2005 at 8:35 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mr. Taylor was born in Lockhart on Sept. 21, 1933, a son of the late Jarvis Taylor and Nellie Cogdill Taylor Gregory and step-son of the late Luke Gregory. He attended Wilkesburg Baptist Church. Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, David L. Taylor and wife Julie of Gaffney and Alan Dean Taylor of Union; two grandchildren, April Mabry and Cory Taylor.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. today, June 8, 2005, at the Lockhart Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Charles Terry.

Mabel Jeanette Childers, 98, widow of Benjamin “Ben” Childers formerly of Lockhart, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at 2:55 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Childers was born in Chester, June 2, 1907, a daughter of the late Jim and Amanda Elizabeth Dover Childers. She was a member of the Lockhart Church of God and was retired from Milliken & Co., Lockhart Plant.

Surviving are a daughter, Lillie Mae Holmes and husband Fred of Chester; two sons, James Frank Childers of Union and Alex Chambers Childers of Lockhart; three grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Childers was predeceased by a son, Larry Dean Childers; a granddaughter, Teresa Kay Holmes; a sister and a brother.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Roger Roof.

Caroline Nicole Lipford, 26, of 2653 Sardis Road, Union, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005.

Ms. Lipford was born in Simpsonville, April 24, 1979, a daughter of Lee and Rebecca Chalk Lipford of Union. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended USCSpartanburg. Ms. Lipford was an Interpretive Ranger with the Rose Hill State Historical Site in Union and a member of New Life Baptist Church where she was the director of the children’s choir.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a daughter, Savannah and a son, Rusty, both of the home; her paternal grandmother, Peggy Lipford of Union. Ms. Lipford was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Russell Lipford and her maternal grandparents, John and Ruth Chalk.

BUFFALO — Elizabeth Roberts Crisp, 84, of 224 Cross St., Buffalo, widow of Bobby Crisp, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11:40 a.m. in Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

Mrs. Crisp was born in Franklin, N.C., on Oct. 23, 1920, a daughter of the late David and Hermie Liner Stockton. She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was formerly employed as a payroll clerk with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant, and was formerly employed as a Realtor in Florida.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Roger (Doug) Roberts of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; a special son, Earl Foster and his wife, Callie, of Union and a special friend, Mrs. Ruth Lawson of Buffalo. Mrs. Crisp was predeceased by a son, Donald Warden Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Chaplain Stewart Smith. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union on April 23, 1949, a daughter of the late J.E. Jeffcoat and Flonnie Lancaster Jeffcoat. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Smith was retired from Milliken & Co., Gillespie Plant.

Surviving are a son, Richie Smith of the home; three brothers, Mark Jeffcoat of the home and Rick Jeffcoat and wife Phyllis of Simpsonville and Larry Jeffcoat of Charleston; a sister, Ellen J. Lawson and husband Donald of Union and a half-sister, Cathy Randall of Salley.

Ola Roberta “Sis” Summer, 80, of 186 Summer Valley Road, Buffalo, died at her residence Thursday, June 9, 2005, at 7 p.m., after an extended illness.

Ms Summer was born in Buffalo July 21, 1924, a daughter of the late Ollie Orestus Summer and Bertha Brock Summer. She graduated as valedictorian of West Springs High School, and was former owner and operator of Bee’s Flower Shop in Union. Ms Summer was a founding member and director of True Gospel Life Church and a member of the Resecrucian Order.

Surviving are a daughter, Shannon Summer Smith and husband Boris of the home; four sisters, Margie Summer and Gearline Summer, both of the home and Brooks Summer Varner and husband John of Buffalo, Beth Summer Strait and husband Robert of Jonesville; two brothers, the Rev. Charles Summer and wife Norma of Buffalo and Frank Summer of the home; a grandson, Dillon Summer Smith of the home; nieces and nephews, Daniel Orestus Strait of Jonesville, Steven O. Summer and wife Dianne, Dianne Anthony, Dale Summer, Dee Anthony and wife Beth, Christy Casey and husband Chris, Billy Anthony and wife Lona all of Buffalo, Jonathan Culp and Caitlyn Culp both of Inman, D.J. Mrs. Aiken was born in Townville, a daughter of the late Henry Riley Whitfield and Lou Bowen Whitfield. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mary E. Aiken “Jean” Vaughan and husband Terry of Union; a son, Donald E. Aiken and wife Delois of Loris; a sister, Sallie W. Bowman of Anderson, six grandchildren, Terry Vaughan Jr., Scott Vaughan, Trina Vaughan Hardin, Amber Aiken Rhodes, Shawnna Dew and Darren Aiken and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Nichole Vaughan, Lindsay Hunter Vaughan and Kade Rhodes.

Agnes Morgan Jeter
Camp director

Agnes Morgan Jeter, 97, of 413 East Main St., died at her home on June 11, 2005 after a period of declining health.

Miss Jeter was born at the old Rice-Coleman-Jeter home in Union County on Feb. 22, 1908. She was the last remaining sibling of the late Dr. Robert Russell and Agnes Coleman Jeter. She was a graduate of Union High School, where she was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Upon graduation from high school, Miss Jeter told her mother that she “always knew” what she would do in life. Commonly referred to as “Jete” since her high school days, Miss Jeter entered Winthrop College in Rock Hill, where she was presented The Distinguished Alumni Award. She also received her master’s degree from Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn. In addition to public school teaching in North Carolina, she taught at Greensboro College and at the Out-of-Door School in Sarasota, Fla. She began her career at Camp Yonahlossee in 1927 as a college student counselor and never missed a summer until her retirement in 1982. During her career, after her start as a counselor, she became a full time director and eventually owner of one of the finest camps for girls in the nation. Upon her retirement, she returned to Union in 1982. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

“Jete” was a remarkable person who touched the lives of hundreds and hundreds of girls throughout her 55 years she was associated with Camp Yonahlossee. They were all “her girls” and she welcomed the daughters of her early campers and eventually their granddaughters — three generations of Yonahlossee girls whose lives had been enriched by Jete’s love, wisdom and good example.

Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, greatnieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 16 at Grace United Methodist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Gary Byrd.

Nannie Foster Sprouse, 93, of 251 Kelly Road, Union, widow of Roger Sprouse, died at her residence Monday, June 13, 2005 at 1:10 a.m.

Mrs. Sprouse was born in Union on Dec. 8, 1911, a daughter of the late Robert and Nan Barnado Foster. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mrs. Sprouse was owner and operator of Sprouse’s Upholstery Shop for over 50 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Douglas Taber and husband Charles of the home; four grandchildren, Maxine Woods, Belinda Douglas and Roger Douglas, all of Union and Alicia Douglas McKinney of Spartanburg; four greatgrandchildren, Tiffany Hooper, Ashley Hooper, both of Union, Amber McKinney and Marissa McKinney, both of Spartanburg. Mrs. Sprouse was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Woods and five brothers, Emslie, Cecil, Ernest, Evan and Gene Foster.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor Mike Nelson. Burial will be in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.

PAULINE — Hoyt C. Waddell, 73, of 117 Derrick Road, Pauline, widower of Mary C. Waddell, died at his home, Wednesday, June 15, 2005 after a long illness.

Mr. Waddell was born in Spartanburg, July 19, 1931, a son of the late Talmadge and Esmer Wall Waddell. He was a retired carpenter and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. Mr. Waddell was a member of West Springs Baptist Church and the VFW $9539 of Spartanburg.

Surviving are a daughter, Tracie W. Woody and husband Robby of Pauline; three special grandchildren, Melanie Woody, Paul Woody and Stephanie Woody, all of Pauline; a great-grandson, Jackson Woody; eight sisters, Elizabeth Crocker, Lois Beam and Olivea Holcomb, all of Gaffney; Ann Jones, Pauline Howell and Doris Phillips, all of Spartanburg, Carol Keither of Monroe, N.C., and Lula McSwain of Charlotte; three brothers, Harold Waddell and Charles Waddell, both of Spartanburg and Robert Waddell of New York.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Henry Johnson.
The family will receive friends immediately following the burial.

ANDERSON — The Rev. Frank W. Black, 88, widower of Nannie Marie Medford Black, of 100 Travis Lane, Anderson, died Saturday evening, June 18, 2005 after a long illness.

Rev. Black was born Nov. 25, 1916, a son of the late Walter W. and Josephine Rochester Black. He was a retired minister of the Church of God having served as a pastor for 47 years. Rev. Black was a member of the Homeland Park Church of God in Anderson.

Surviving are a daughter, Janice B. Ash and husband Martin R. of Anderson, two sons, Stephen R. Black and wife Jeanette of Jonesboro, Ga., and Earl W. Black and wife Teresa of Iva; a sister, Virginia Carter of Union; two brothers, Ray Black of Gaffney and Dean Black of Apple Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roy Puckett. Burial will be in Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, June 20, 2005, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Holcombe Funeral Home.

Murphy J. Vinson
World War II veteran

Murphy Jefferies “Jeff ” Vinson, 88, husband of Cleo Ivey Vinson of 593 Browns Creek Church Road, Union, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday evening, June 18, 2005.

Mr. Vinson was born July 17, 1916, the son of the late Tom and Beuna Carter Vinson and the late Mamie M. Vinson. He was refired from Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant. Mr. Vinson was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Browns Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and the Superintendent of Sunday School. Mr. Vinson was an avid farmer.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Karen Crocker and husband Jimmy of Union; two sons, Tony Vinson and wife Ginger of Union and Stanley Vinson and wife Barbara of Simpsonville; four grandchildren, Ivy Vinson, Amber Price, Kristy deDrafft and Tyler Crocker; three greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Duckett and Corine Hart, both of Union; and three brothers, Jake Vinson, Jack Vinson and H.A. “Buck” Vinson, all of Union.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Browns Creek Baptist Church at 11 a.m. by the Rev. John Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends today, June 20, 2005, from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Newberry, June 1, 1926, a daughter of the late Harry and Bertha Craft McCall, She was formerly employed with Milliken & Co. and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Jimmy and Beth Hawkins of Union and Danny and Janet Hawkins of Sharon; two brothers, Harry McCall Jr. and Tommy McCall Sr., both of Union; eight grandchildren, Melanie Walker, Jason Prather, Heather Hawkins, Colby Hawkins, Stacy Baker, Danny Hawkins Jr., Shelley Balding and Brooke Caldwell; five great-grandchildren, Britney Baker, Chelsea Walker, Joshua Walker, Emily Balding and Dillon Caldwell. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by a son, Dennis Prather, and three sisters, Virgie Freeman, Bertha Burgess and Thelma Wade.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ottaray Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Crocker. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Alice Ruth Harkins May, 77, of 140 Seigler Road, Union, widow of George C. May, died Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the home of her son.

Mrs. May was born Oct. 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Homer R. and Essie Cope Harkins. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and also a member of the Adult Ladies #3 Group of the church.
Mrs. May was retired from Conso Products Co. and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include a son, George Perry May of Spartanburg; a daughter, Romona M. Anderson Shelmire of Chester; four grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

CROSS HILL — Samuel Jerome McCall Jr., 33, off 1149 South Main St., Cross Hill, died Thursday, June 23, 2005.

Mr. McCall was born Dec. 16, 1971, the son of Samuel and Sandra Bull McCall of Simpsonville. Mr. McCall was employed with Satterfield Construction Company of Greenwood and was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sons, Andy McCall and Matt McCall of Owens; a sister, Tina Knight of Simpsonville; and a maternal grandmother, Kathleen Tyner of Clinton.
Mr. McCall was predeceased by a brother, Donnie McCall.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Light House Tabernacle Church with burial in Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton. The family received friends Sunday night at the church.

JONESVILLE — Christine Foster Varner, 90, formerly of Jonesville, died Friday, June 24, 2005 in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.
She was the widow of Lewis D. Varner Jr. of Jonesville.

Mrs. Varner was born Nov. 22, 1914, the daughter of the late Rufus Edward and Altha Greene Foster. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Survivors are a son, Bobby Varner and wife Patricia of Jonesville; three daughters, Patty V. Morrison and husband Bobby, Mary V. Fleming and husband Buddy, Vicki V. Vaughan and husband Donnie, all of Jonesville: 10 grandchildren, Kimberly V. Alexander, Dennis Varner, Kristie V. Roberson, Angela S. Plemons, Steven S. Sprouse, Ronald N. Fleming, Gaye Branham, Rodney Fleming, Bryan “Scotty” Vaughan, Amika C. Vaughan and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Varner was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.

James “Dinkey” Whitlock, 69, of English, Fla., former of Whitmire, died June 23, 2005 in Chiefland, Fla.

Mr. Whitlock was born in Whitmire, Oct. 8, 1935, a son of the late J.B. Whitlock and Annie Doris Lewis Clay. Mr. Whitlock served in the United States Marine Corps and was a retired heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include a son, James E. Whitlock Jr. of Sorrento, Fla.; a sister, Judy Taylor of Clinton; three brothers, Billy Joe Whitlock of Saltsville, Va., Gordon Whitlock of Whitmire and Jerry Whitlock of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Whitlock was predeceased by two daughters, Pamela Morossofl and Jacquelin A. Whitlock; a sister, Maxine Price; and a brother, Ronnie Whitlock.

David Anthony Cagle, 57, of Cocoa, Fla., formerly of Union, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 after an extended illness.

Mr. Cagle was born June 29, 1947, a son of Ellen Jo Young Cagle of 1151 Sardis Road, Union, and the late Waylon Cagle. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in Vietnam. Mr. Cagle attended Union County schools.

In addition to his mother, survivors include two sons, Eric Houde of Minot, N.D., and Tony Houde of Mallough, Mass.; three sisters, Karen L. Wilson and husband George of St. Matthews, Vicki P. Shenk and husband Charles of Athens, Ga., and Vonnie M. Steelman and husband Jonathan of Forest, Va.; and three grandchildren, Kayla, Jared, and Liam.

Paula Ann Settle, 46, of 2222 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Heart Center after a period of declining health.

She was the daughter of Sara Ann Inabinett Settle and the late Harold Settle and the granddaughter of the late Archie (Bubba) and Frances Allen Inabinett of Buffalo and Boyce and Alice Settle of Campobello.

Paula was born in Union, Jan. 26, 1959. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Wofford College and Spartanburg Methodist College.

Surviving in addition to her mother are several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory and the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
