Paisley Sierra Knox, infant daughter of Amanda Dawkins Knox of 668 Strother Road, Union and Michael Todd Knox of Union, died Thursday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Paisley Sierra is survived by a sister, Dacey Sumner of the home; a stepfather, Jonathan Hendrix of the home; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Catherine Dawkins of Union; and her maternal grandfather, Victor L. Dawkins of Union.

World War II veteran

John Gray “Pinky” Addison Sr., 82, of 421 Peach Orchard Road, Union, husband of Frances Tucker Addison, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 8:15 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after several years declining health.

Mr. Addison was born in Union on Oct. 4, 1922, a son of the late James Harley Addison Sr. and Floy Gilbert Addison. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Mr. Addison was a decorated disabled World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, John G. Addison Jr. and wife Janet of Union; two daughters Janice Addison Wilson and husband Cliff of Lexington and Kathy Addison Derrick and husband the Rev. Randall S. Derrick of Little Mountain; a sister, Bobbie Jean Cathcart and husband Bob of Cary, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Rhonda LaBounty, Rob Kirby, Telisa Amodio, Tracey Fowler, Greg Addison, Brad Petty, Paige Derrick and Elizabeth Anne Derrick and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Addison was predeceased by a daughter, Frances Dale Nelson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Eddie Saxon, the Rev. Harold Wilson and the Rev. Jack Kyzer. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with full military rites.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Fowler, Greg Addison, Rob Kirby, Brad Petty, Jason Amodio and Wayne LaBounty.

BUFFALO — Billy Dean “Head” Lancaster, 69, of 1205 Mud Bridge Road, Buffalo, died Tuesday morning, March 1, 2005, after a sudden illness.

Mr. Lancaster was born in Union County on April 17, 1935, a son of Eloise Gist Lancaster of Buffalo and the late Freddie Lancaster. He was a member of the Bogansville United Methodist Church. Mr. Lancaster was a retired contractor and was formerly employed with Milliken & Co., Excelsior Plant.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Debbie Gallman Youngblood and husband Jim of Woodruff and Nancy L. West and husband Lynn of Buffalo; two sons, Larry D. Lancaster and Richie Lancaster and wife Judi, all of Buffalo; two brothers, Randolph Lancaster and wife Mary Jo of Buffalo and Bruce Lancaster and wife Ann of Union; five grandchildren, Phillip Gallman, Brittany West, Mandy Lancaster, Megan Lancaster and Shane Lancaster, all of Buffalo; two great-grandchildren, Kinsley Gallman of Union and Sydney Reich of Buffalo; a very special companion, Joan Salomone of Buffalo; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services es will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery conduced by he Rev. Jerry Lawson and the Rev. Clayton Price.

Edith Feaster Pease, 83, wife of James E. Pease of 2720 Country Club Road, Spartanburg, formerly of Union, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at 10:35 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Pease was born in Union on March 17, 1921, a daughter of the late William Legg Feaster and Mary Rice Feaster. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Culp-Wagnon Sunday School Class and the Johnny Sanders Circle. Mrs. Pease received her BA and Masters degrees from the University of South Carolina in Columbia and was a retired school teacher, having taught at Lockhart High School. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a sister, Mulloy Feaster Christopher and husband Albert of Goose Creek; three nieces and a nephew, Sharon Feaster of Newberry, Mary Feaster of Columbia, Frances Feaster and William R. Feaster Jr., both of Union. Mrs. Pease was predeceased by a brother, William R. Feaster Sr. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. SPARTANBURG — Dorothy “Dot” Fowler Sanders, 89, widow of Wallace Johnson Sanders, formerly of 102 Fant Lane, Union, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at 7:40 p.m. in Magnolia Place in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Sanders was born in Jonesville on Aug. 30, 1915, a daughter of the late Henry Grady Fowler and Ruth Lawson Fowler. She was a longtime active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Union and served as Past State President of United Methodist Women. She was a member of the William Wallace Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy and a former member of the Fairforest Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Union D.O.E.S. Droves of Union Elks Lodge and was a volunteer for Christmas at Rose Hill.

Surviving are two sons, Wallace J. “Sandy” Sanders of Beaufort and Henry R. Sanders of Sparanburg; six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Graveside services were held at noon today at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Gary Byrd.

Mildred Clara Edwards Snowden, 83, formerly of Louise St., Union, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 9:05 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.

Mrs. Snowden was born in Blackwater, Va., on Dec. 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Joseph Carl Edwards Sr., and Sara Elva Levisey Edwards. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Snowden was retired from Excelsior Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Wood and Brenda Palmer and husband Ronnie, all of Union; two sons, Raymnd Snowden of Union and Ronnie Sanders of Clinton; three sisters, Reba Queen of Union, Sally Epps of Blair and Judy Hagan of Union; four brothers, Joe C. Edwards Jr., Gene Edwards and Thomas Edwards, all of Union and Harry D. Edwards of Inman; nine grandchildren, Allan Wood, Cynthia W. Vinson, Crystal Quinn, Deborah Clanton, Eric Palmer, Kevin Palmer, Melissa Snowden, Sharon Snowden and Shanna Sanders and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Snowden was predeceased by a son-in-law, Leroy Wood, a sister, Lucille Wylie, a brother Emmitt Edwards and a grandson, Daniel W. Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Warren Jones. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

LOCKHART, SC Mr. Otis Keith O'Dell, 73, of 3299 Gilchrist Road, Sharon, husband of Dorothy D. O'Dell, died Thursday in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. O'Dell was born in Lockhart on October 24, 1931, a son of the late Walter and Kate Lackey O'Dell. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School, Class of 1949 and was retired from Torrington Company. Mr. O'Dell was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church, where he was the teacher of the Pals and Faithful Workers Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are three daughters, LuAnn Grant of Fairbanks, Alaska, Anita Montgomery of Lockhart, and Patty Elliott of Myrtle Beach; a son, Larry O'Dell of Clemson; six grandchildren; two brothers, Dean O'Dell of Union and Murray O'Dell of Sharon.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, at Lockhart First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ben Hill and Rev. Joe Stover. Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

BUFFALO, SC Mrs. Eva Pruitt Billings, 91, formerly of Mt. Lebanon Road, Buffalo, widow of Walter Billings, died Friday, in Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Billings was born in Spartanburg County on November 16, 1913, a daughter of the late John and Hurley McCravy Pruitt. She was a member of the Putman Baptist Church. Mrs. Pruitt was retired from United Merchants Buffalo Plant.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca Hagan and husband Jan of Buffalo; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, at Putman Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Rebecca and Jan Hagan, 116 Meadow Lane, Buffalo and will receive friends in the Social Hall of Putman Baptist Church immediately after the services.

UNION, SC Mr. William J. Billy Gault, Jr., 57, of 1106 North Pinckney Street, Union, died at his residence Saturday morning, March 5, 2005.

Mr. Gault was born in Union on July 21, 1947, a son of William J. Jep Gault, Sr. of Union and the late Christine Berry Gault. He was a graduate of Union High School Class of 1966, where he was a three sports letterman. Mr. Gault was a Baptist and was formerly employed with Parts and Machinery.

Surviving in addition to his father, are a daughter, Christy Scott and husband Chris of Union; a son, Jeffrey Gault of Jonesville; a granddaughter, Emma Scott of Union; a sister, Paulretta Rutledge and husband Charles of Union; a niece, Ashley Rutledge of Union; two half-brothers, Mickey Gault of Virginia and Tim Gault of Union; and his step-mother, Peggy Gault of Union.

Mr. Mashburn was born in Union on Sept. 30, 1977, a son of Janet McGowan Northern of Union and Toney Mashburn of Verbena, Ala.. He was employed with Advance Auto Parts in Union. Mr. Mashburn was a Baptist.

JONESVILLE — Howard “Pete” Quinn, 74, husband of Aileen Heatherly Quinn of 1627 Mudbridge Road, Jonesville, died at his residence Monday, March 7, 2005, at 12:25 p.m.

Mr. Quinn was born in Buffalo Oct. 23, 1930, a son of the late Robert and Bertha Haglan Quinn. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the West Springs Baptist Church, a former deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Church Training Director, a member of the church choir and the Men’s Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mr. Quinn was a member of Duncan Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post #22. He was a retired textile employee.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Pam Gault and husband Mike of Jonesville; a son, Vance Quinn and wife Becky of Jonesville; four grandchildren: Jaime Williamson and husband Matt, Jessica Quinn, Michael Gault and Adam Gault; a great-grandchild, Ty Christopher Williamson; and two sisters, Betty Good of Lockhart and Sue Pennington of Buffalo. Mr. Thompson was born in Cowpens on Sept. 23, 1927, a son of the late William Wesley Thompson and Ossie Billings Thompson. He was a member of Gilead Baptist Church. Mr. Thompson was retired owner and operator of Thompson’s Logging.

Surviving in addition of his wife are three sons, Vernon Arthur Thompson Jr. and wife Claudette of Gaffney, Ronald Keith Thompson and wife Sharon and Steve Dexter Thompson and wife Penny of Jonesville; two sisters, Effie Brown of Hickory, N.C., and Reba Newton of Casar, N.C.; a brother, Glenn Thompson of Kings Mountain, N.C.; nine grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren. W.E. Hyder Jr., 80, husband of Vernelle Sprouse “Nelle” Hyder of 213 Hyder Road, Union, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 1:53 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Hyder was born in Union on April 10, 1924, a son of the late Wilkes E. Hyder Sr. and Lillian Greene Hyder. He was a graduate of Union High School and was a barber with Hyder’s Ideal Barber Shop. He was a Mason and a former employee of Edgar-Bailey-Brown Funeral Home. Mr. Hyder was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, choir member and had served as president of the Brotherhood and was a former member of the Union County Men’s Chorus.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sisters, Minnie Lou Barnette, Lorena Gregory, Vivian Jolly and Cornelia Owings, all of Union; two brothers, Maurice Hyder and Donald Hyder, both of Union; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Duckett was born in Union on Aug. 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Will and Eva Willard Burnett. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, the Juanita Crocker Sunday School Class and had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Hinson and husband Doug of Rock Hill and Judy Lawson and husband Jimmy with whom she made her home; three sons, Halon Duckett and special friend Maria Brown of Union, Ronnie Duckett and special friend Shirley White of Gaffney and Tony Duckett and wife Penny of Union; three sisters, Flora Hachett of Spartanburg, Burnice Roberts and Mary Edwards, both of Union; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild. Mrs. Duckett was predeceased by a daughter-inlaw, Nancy W. Duckett, a brother, Tommy Burnett and a sister, Lou Bishop.

Sadie Whitlock O’Dell, 78, of 127 Wildwood Lane, Union, died at her residence at an early hour Thursday, March 10, 2005.

Mrs. O’Dell was born in Union on Oct. 27, 1926, a daughter of the late Ben and Nellie Jolly Whitlock. She was a member of Brown's Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Milliken & Co.
Mrs. O’Dell was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are three daughters, Sue O. Hodges of Mansfield, Ga., Sandra O. Carmen of Maryland and Mitzie O. Bennett of the home; five grandchildren, Jennifer Berube, Shannon Porter, Scott Whitener, April Bass and Grea Whitener and a number of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John T. Lee Jr. Burial will be in the Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ronnie O’Dell, Bruce Sparks, Carol Bailey Sr., Donnie Bailey, Donald Hope Howell and Mike O’Dell.

UNION, SC Mrs. Gladys Lawson Boulware, 80, widow of Paul Boulware, of 296 Meansville Road, Brittany Manor, Union, died Friday, March 11, 2005 after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Boulware was born in Union October 9, 1924, a daughter of the late Roy T. Lawson and Pearl Lawson Lawson. She was retired from Union County School System and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Cathy Boulware of Union; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bob Jones of Odessa, TX; five sisters, Lizzie Mae Crawford, Hazel Bobo and her husband Sam, Myrtle Weaver, Martha Copeland and her husband Guy, Carol Cookson and her husband Bud, all of Union; one brother, Harold Lawson and his wife Bobby Jean of Union; one brother-in-law, Donald Boulware of Union; seven grandchildren, Karen Boulware of High Point, NC, Mark Boulware and wife Debbie of Pauline, April Pyform and husband Shawn of Weaverville, NC, Rhonda Robinson and husband Johnny of Clover, Robin Powser and husband Robert of Pasadenia, MD, Michael Tyler and wife Mindy of Union, and Mitchell Tyler of Union and his fiancée Heather Benfield of Greer; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Boulware was predeceased by a son, Ken Boulware; two sisters, Lena Bobo and Mildren Lawson; and two brothers, R. T. Lawson and States Lawson.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Adamsburg, August 2, 1916, a daughter of the late James P. and Belle Nance Vaughan. She was retired from the Union County School System, Lockhart Cafeteria, and was a member of Lockhart United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two granddaughters, Rhonda Greer and husband Brent of Buffalo, Jill Scarborough and husband Todd of Lockhart; one grandson, Jimmy Johnson and wife Christy of Union; a daughter-in-law, Ila Davis Johnson of Lockhart; one sister, Mrs. Frank (Katie) Vaughan of Union; five grandchildren, Matthew Greer, Spencer Scarborough, Thomas Scarborough, Mary Catherine Scarborough, and Macy Scarborough; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a son, James F. Johnson; six sisters; and three brothers.

BUFFALO — Donald V. Garner, 67, of 111 South St., Buffalo, husband of Marjorie “Mot” Newton Garner, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Mr. Garner was born in Union on Feb. 15, 1938, a son of the late William “Bill” Garner and Lena Reagan Snowden Garner. He was a Baptist. Mr. Garner was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was retired from BellSouth Telephone Co. He was a member of the Union County C.B. Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Pamela Keisler and husband, Harold, of Buffalo, two sons, Donald L. Garner and wife Debra of Jonesville and Kenneth W. Garner and wife Melanie of Santuc; a granddaughter reared in the home, Michelle Austin; three sisters, Sylvia Knighton of Union, Bertha Stradley of Lawton, Okla., and Ada Mae Ashe of Sanford, Maine; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Garner was predeceased by a daughter, LeShay Garner, a grandson, Michael Garner, and two brothers, Raymond Snowden and Eugene Garner.

Joe Harvey Stalnaker, 90, formerly of 198 Frank Hill Loop Extension, Union, widower of Bert Satterfield Stalnaker, died Monday, March 14, 2005 at 8:05 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Stalnaker was born in Atlanta, Ga., on Sept. 14, 1914, a son of the late G.A. Stalnaker and Josie Whitman Stalnaker. He was a Methodist. Mr. Stalnaker was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Lockhart Power Co.

Surviving are a sister, Pearl S. Meggs of Gaffney, a brother, Richard A. “Dick” Stalnaker of Union and a number of nieces and nephews.

Francenia “Teenie” Weathers, 74, wife of Thomas W. Weathers of 862 Sardis Road, Union, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at her home.

Mrs. Weathers was born in Chester, Jan. 5, 1931, a daughter of the late Claude F. Miller and Eunice Estelle Dawkins Miller. Mrs. Weathers was formerly employed with Southern Bell and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church and a graduate of Union High School.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Cynthia W. Wofford of Union and Elizabeth W. Page of Atlanta, Ga; two sons, Daniel E. Weathers and Michael R. Weathers, both of Union; two sisters, Ruby Coward of Cayce and Lucille Voiselle of Union; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Weathers was predeceased by a son, Thomas C. Weathers, a grandson, Benny Collier, a sister, Jeanette M. Linder and two brothers, Ross Miller and Dale Miller.

Mr. Bobo was born in Spartanburg on July 1, 1946, a son of Bessie Mae Bradley Bobo of Woodruff and the late Lewis Dempsey Bobo. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Mr. Bobo was retired from Fluor Daniel Construction Co.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Ashley Bobo of the home and Deborah Bobo Lanning of Hendersonville, N.C.; a son, John L. Bobo II of the home; a brother, Ralph “Bud” Bobo of Gaffney; four grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend, Margaret Wicks of Pacolet.

Mr. Howell was born in Union on June 3, 1930, a son of the late Henry and Emma Gregory Howell. He was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and was a retired textile employee.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Vonnie Smith and husband Jimmy of Buffalo and Brenda McMillian of Union; three sons, Keith Howell and wife Cathy, Calvin Howell and wife Julie and Kerry Flowers, all of Union; three sisters, Myrtle Wilson, Evelyn Knox and Wilhilmina Kirby, all of Union; a brother, James Howell and wife Joan of Buffalo; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a special care giver, Linda Jeter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Howell was predeceased by twin daughters, Elaine and Eileen Howell; three sisters, Fannie West, Rosalee Morgan and Virginia Brown and a brother, Woodrow Howell.

Elizabeth Ann Means, 52, of Buena Vista Apts., 683 Rice Ave., Extension, Union, died at her residence Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 12 noon after a battle with cancer.

Ms. Means was born in Union on April 7, 1951, a daughter of Thomas and O’Dell Smith Ruth. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Kelton. Ms. Means was formerly employed with the Department of Natural Resources for Union County and the University of South Carolina--Union.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a daughter, Deattre Monique Means of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Javon Means, Alexis Means, Kianna Chaplian, Jabori Chaplian, Kevin Means, Martia Means, and Kiarra Means; three sisters, Laura Good Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., Betty Smith McQuillar and Ruby Samual, both of Christianburg, Va.; and a brother, Morris Gallman of Union. Ms. Means was predeceased by a sister, Essie Means.

Mr. Martin was born in Union on Oct. 17, 1930, a son of the late Clarence W. Martin and Lucille Green Martin. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church and a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Lockhart Unit. Mr. Martin was retired from Newberry Mill.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Charles Wayne Martin of the home; two sisters Dorothy M. Millwood of Chester and Shirley M. Mr. Garner was born in Kelton, SC on February 21, 1917, a son of the late Davis Roy Garner and Bessie Inez Adams Garner. He was a member of the Mt. Joy Baptist Church. Mr. Garner was retired from Milliken & CompanyExcelsior Plant and also was a retired farmer.

Surviving are three sons, William L. Garner and wife Jane of Union, Gerald E. Garner and wife Ellen of Lockhart, and Dwight Garner and wife Mary of Chester; five sisters, Edna Nathalee Comer of Hendersonville, NC, Lou Jean Knox of Winston-Salem, NC, Betty Dean Harvey of Jonesville, Joyce Ann Blakely and Patsy Ruth Garner, both of Columbia; a brother, Donald G. Garner of Jonesville; a number of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Mr. Garner was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers, Thelma Thrasher, Margaret Howell, Thomas Garner, Wilbur Garner, and Herschel Garner.

CLINTON — Elizabeth Colleen Allen Ham, 69, wife of Clarence R. Ham of 320 Sunset Blvd., Clinton, died at her residence Monday, March 21, 2005, at 5:15 a.m. after an extended illness.

Mrs. Ham was born in Spartanburg County on Dec. 31, 1935, a daughter of the late H. E. “Shorty” Allen and Virginia Wood Allen. She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired Certified Dietary Manager at Whitten Center in Clinton. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Clinton and served as secretary and treasurer for the S.C. Dietary Mangers Association from 1982 until 1998.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Lisa Measamer of Anderson, Mary Jane Dilleshaw and Anna Rogers, both of Clinton; two sons, Chris Ham of Prosperity and Ray Ham of Clinton; a sister, Barbara A. McClure of Tulsa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Clifton S. Montgomery, 81, husband of Reba Farr Montgomery of 3239 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy, Union, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at 12:09 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a period of declining health.

Mr. Montgomery was born in Cherokee County on Oct. 28, 1923, a son of the late William F. and Mary Burns Montgomery. He was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and was retired from Milliken & Company, Monarch Plant. Mr. Montgomery was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, superintendent of Sunday School and served on numerous committees of the church and served as treasurer of the church for 30 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a sister, Faye M. Bentley and husband the Rev. Jesse Bentley of Union; a sister-in-law, Carol F. Lawson and husband Emslie Lawson of Pauline; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Charles Vanderford, Sr., 72, husband of Barbara Dabbs Vanderford of 4226 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at 1:35 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a period of declining health.

Mr. Vanderford was born in Lockhart on Feb. 10, 1933, a son of the late W.M. Vanderford and Lucille Inman Vanderford. He was a member of the Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church, the Lockhart Men’s Coffee Club and was a Mason. Mr. Vanderford was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Town of Lockhart with 20 years service.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Melinda Welch of Lockhart; a son, Charles Vanderford Jr., and wife Susan of the Putman Community, Buffalo; four grandchildren, Ashley Thomas, Shane and Nicole Vanderford, Blaine Vanderford and Allison Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Tesla Judy, Devin Vanderford and Hannah Thomas.

Mr. Vanderford was predeceased by a daughter, Belinda Vanderford; three sisters, Gladys McCloud, Willie Porter Sweatt and Lucille Vanderford; and four brothers, Torrance Vanderford, Walter “Snake” Vanderford, Dan Vanderford and Hobert Vanderford.

Alpha Hanna Gibson Wood, 86, died Wednesday night, March 23, 2005. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Philippi Baptist Church in Union conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale and the Rev. Tim Huckaby. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today, March 25, 2005, at Holcombe Funeral Home.

Born in Lockhart on July 22, 1918, Mrs. Wood was the daughter of the late Russell and Sally Childers Gibson. She was preceded in death by her former husband, C. Marion Hanna, and was the widow of C.B. Wood. Mrs. Wood had worked at Lockhart Mill and was later employed in retail sales at Carolyn Fabrics in Greenville. Prior to her recent illness, Mrs. Wood was very active in her church where she taught Sunday School. In her home, she often led Bible study groups and prayer services. She lived her life according to Christ’s teaching and was an inspiration to people of all ages.

Surviving are her sons, Bo Hopkins and wife Sean of N. Hollywood, Calif., and Jack C. Hanna of Washington, D.C.; daughters, Nancy H. Springer and husband Roy Sringer of Norman, Okla., Jeanie Collins of Greenville and Marion Hanna and husband Mike Boliver of Columbia; a sister, Frances Belk of Union; brothers, Edward Gibson, Bill Gibson and wife, Jo Ann and David Gibson and wife Jimmie Ruth, all of Union; grandchildren, Franklin Acker, Christi Luckie, Toni Brookshire, Marty Childers, Jane Hopkins and Matthew Hopkins; six great-grandchildren, her beloved nieces and nephews and her many faithful relatives and friends, including Diane Roark and her sisters, Nancy and Rachel.

Alfred Foster Jordan Jr., formerly of 418 E. Main St., Union, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at the Skyline Place Health Center in Spartanburg after an extended illness.

Born in Union on Oct. 10, 1938, he was a son of the late Alfred Foster Jordan and Elizabeth Jones Jordan. Mr. Jordan was the former coowner, with his brothers Louis and Marshall, of Jordan’s Ace Hardware Inc. He was the former owner and operator of Sure Loans and Sure Checks.

Mr. Jordan was a 1956 graduate of Union High School, attended Clemson College his freshman year, and graduated from Wofford College in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant. Mr. Jordan was a former Jaycee, he also previously served on Union City Council and as a director on the Chamber of Commerce board. He was a life member of Lodge 1321 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he previously served as a deacon .

Survivors include: a brother, Louis and his wife Beverly of Union; a paternal aunt, Isabel Jordan Baarcke of Union; a sister-in-law, Frances Sibert Jordan of Spartanburg; four nephews, Louis Merriman Jordan Jr. of Union, Foster Timmons Jordan of Chapin, Marshall Morgan Jordan of Spartanburg and George Brown Sibert of Spartanburg; and two nieces, Marsha Jordan Hathcock of Union and Bonnie Sibert McAlister of Mount Pleasant. His brother, Marshall, predeceased him.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Presbyterian Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Charles Horne.

The family will be at the home of his brother, Louis M. Jordan, 100 Eastwood Ave., Union.

Helen L. Fowler
Retired from United Merchants

JONESVILLE — Helen Lucile Fowler, 87, of 503 N. Man St., Jonesville, widow of Wallace Fowler, died Friday, March 25, 2005, in Laurens County Hospital after an extended illness.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Greenville County on Jan. 28, 1918, a daughter of the late William Pete Reynolds and Lila May Starkey Reynolds. She attended Greenville High School and was retired from United Merchants and Manufacturing, Buffalo Plant. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by her three children, Betty Dunn, Doyce Jones and Billy Jones.

Surviving are: five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Mitros of Union and Frances Fowler of Greenville; and two brothers, Bobby Reynolds of Florida and Clinton Reynolds of Italy.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Jonesville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Keith Sweat officiating.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

Sara Trantham Austin Belue, 89, of 296 Meansville Road, Brittany Manor, Union, died Saturday evening, March 26, 2005, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Belue was born in Pacolet on Nov. 25, 1915, a daughter of the late William T. Trantham and Mary Emma Wells Trantham. Her stepmother was the late Gaynelle F. Trantham. She was retired from Excel Hosiery Mill and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mrs. Belue was predeceased by a son, Carroll (Ugh) Austin; a grandson, Blake Austin, a great-granddaughter, Deni Arrington Lawson, a brother, Tommy Trantham; and two sisters, Myrtle Bolton and Becky DeBruhl.

Mr. Belue is survived by a daughter and her husband, LaRue A. and Eddie Dill of Spartanburg; two daughtersin -law, Shirley Cudd Austin and Nina Mease Austin, both of Union; a stepson, William Austin of Charlotte, a grandson, Perrin E. Dill and wife Denice of Pauline; three granddaughters, Angie Dill Owen, and husband Marty of Chapin, Carolyn Yarborough and husband Johnny of Union and Twyla Proctor of Jonesville; a step-granddaughter Shelia Bailey of Duncan; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan and Nicole Dill of Pauline, Madison and Erin Owen of Chapin, Chad and Trey Arrington of Union, Drew Proctor of Jonesville and Keena Fowler of Union; six great-great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mary Hodge, Bobbie Barber, Andre Whitener and Linda Betenbaugh, all of Union; two brothers, Wayne Trantham and Billy Trantham, both of Union and many loved nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Plemmons officiating.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

UNION, SC-- Mrs. Glenis Jean Hollifield Talley, 51, of Lakeside Manor, 1111 Lakeside Drive Ext., Union, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at 5:40 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness. Mrs. Talley was born in Gaffney, SC, on February 20, 1954, the daughter of Betty Jean Knox Cagle of Union, and the late Bobby Hollifield.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Chad Stephens and Donald Kent Stephens, Jr., both of Buffalo; two grandchildren; a sister, Joan Wilburn of Buffalo; and her paternal grandmother, Grandmother Hollifield of Blacksburg.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 7-9:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mildred Ann Pharr Roark, 55, widow of Kenneth Roark, formerly of College St., Union, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Roark was born in Union, March 8, 1950, a daughter of Anna M. Breuer Pharr and the late Mack E. Pharr. Mrs. Roark was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two daughters, Hollie Mitchell of Union and Kristy Sorrow of Alabama; a son, Kenneth Roark II; a step-daughter, Melissa Patterson of Jonesville; two step-sons, Wayne Roark and Gerald Roark, both of Union; three sisters, Mary Duncan of Union, Diana Sweatt of Florida and Dodie Yarborough of Whitmire; two brothers, Rainer Pharr of Union and Pete Pharr of Florida and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Benny Green.

The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 until 8 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

BUFFALO — Katherine “Kathy” Caroline Adams O’Shields, 43, of 240 Buffalo St., Buffalo, wife of Charles A. O’Shields, died at her residence Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 10 p.m. after an extended illness.

Mrs. O’Shields was born in Jacksonville, Fla., on March 17, 1962, a daughter of the late Harold and Basha Rogers Adams. She attended Union High School and was formerly manager of Little Caesars Pizza for 19 years. Mrs. O’Shields was a Baptist.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Justin Lee O’Shields and James Bradley O’Shields, both of the home and Charles Andrew (Chuck) O’Shields and wife Ricki of Buffalo; a grandson, Zakary Andrew O’Shields of Buffalo; a sister, Melissa Rogers (Lisa) Myrick and husband David of the home; four nephews, Shane Adams, Jonathan Tyler Adams and Jacob Dylan Adams, all of Greer and Brandon Hagan of Union; three special cousins, Debbie Gatliff of Union, Delores and Randy McDaniel of Rock Hill and Stepheny Estes of Union; and a number of aunts, uncles and other cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Johnny Burgess and Chaplain Skip Synder.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Hagan, Shane Adams, David Myrick, Jimmy Estes, Steven Gatliff and Freddie Rogers.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 9.

Vickie Sue Edwards, 57, of 303 Spring St., Union, died at her residence Wednesday, March 30, 2005.

Mrs. Edwards was born in Albany, Oregon on March 30, 1948, a daughter of the late Henry Laverne Delvin and Cleon Ophelia Senter Devlin.

Surviving are two daughters, Penny M. Sewald and husband Clint of Union and Tracey Manasco of Oregon; three sons, Roger Dale Manasco of Montana, Billy Manasco of Idaho, and Mike Manasco and wife Christine of Oregon; four brothers, Tom Devlin and wife Reba of Montana, Danny Devlin of Oregon, David Devlin and Terry Devlin, both of Washington State; four grandchildren, Cody Manasco, Kelsy Sewald, Jerry Manasco and Jordon Manasco.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Penny and Clint Sewald, 216 Bobo St., Union and will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 until 8 to be followed by visitation at the home of her daughter.

William Rhymer Sr.

DECULA, Ga. — William Rhymer Sr., 76, of 2060 Ashton Ridge Drive, Dacula, Ga., husband of Bobbie Lamb Rhymer, died at his residence Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at 5 a.m. after a period of declining health.

Mr. Rhymer was born in Union on June 24, 1928, a son of the late Savannah Rhymer Rowland. He was a graduate of Union High School and Georgia Tech and was an Engineer. Mr. Rhymer was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, William Rhymer Jr. of Conyers, Ga., J. Stanley Rhymer of Monroe, Ga., and James Gaden of Stockbridge, Ga.,; two daughters, Suzanne Holder of Buford, Ga., and Katrina Barnes of Conyers, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dave Davis and the Rev. Bill Jolly.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.,

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
