Eddie F. Robinson

Mr. Eddie F. Robinson, 77, of 207 Philippi Church Road, Union, widower of Kathleen R. Robinson, died at his home Saturday, September 3, 2005, at 4:10 p.m. after an extended illness.

Mr. Robinson was born in Union, April 27, 1928, a son of the late Esther Robinson, Sr. and Cora Boulware Robinson. He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Robinson was a disabled U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Guard at the Union County Chain Gang.

Surviving are a daughter, Pam Sinclair of the home; two sons, Roger D. "Pee Wee" Robinson and wife Shirley of Union, and Eddie Dean Robinson of Union; a niece reared in the home, Kathy McCutcheon; one brother, Olin D. Robinson of Union; four sisters, Vivian Adams and Mattie Turner, both of Union, Sara Rice of Greenville, and Ruby Cudd of Charleston; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

Visitation will be held Monday night from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Holcombe Funeral Home.

Shane Wade

Mr. Joseph Shane Wade, 35, husband of Laurel Lifrage Wade of 336 River Hills Road, Union, died Sunday, September 4, 2005, at 8:40 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Wade was born in Union, May 6, 1970, the son of Joe and Sandy Belue Wade of Union. He was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church. He graduated from Union High School and attended Spartanburg Methodist College on a baseball scholarship. He coached for Dixie Girls Softball League in Union for 5 years, taking his winning team from regional to state and then to the World Series in Muscle Shoals, AL, in 2003. He also was an Upward Basketball coach at Tabernacle Baptist Church. At fourteen, Shane, himself played in the Dixie Pony League World Series. Shane actively supported the Youth in Union County, giving generously of his time coaching various sports. He was a longtime, dedicated Clemson fan, a loving son, husband and father.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and parents, are a daughter, Logan Adair Wade of the home; two sons, Jeremy Seth Wade and Nicholas Blake Wade of the home; one brother, Scott Wade and wife Denise of Jonesville; one sister, Brandy Wilson and husband David of Union; three nieces, Kaigan Wilson of Union, Blake Alexander and Kendra Smith, both of Jonesville; his maternal grandparents, Lillie Mae and Roy Frost of Union; his paternal grandfather, William Wade of Union; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Binky and Eileen Manes of Spartanburg, and Geoff and Phyllis Lifrage of Kingstree. Mr. Wade was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Thelma Wade; and his maternal grandfather, Russell Belue, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Bailey and Rev. Randy Burgess. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Monday 6-8:00 p.m. at the Holcombe Funeral Home.

Eugene "Shorty" Howell

Mr. Eugene "Shorty" Howell, 73, husband of Hazel Lancaster T. Howell of 176 Woodhaven Drive, Union, died Saturday, September 9, 2005, at 8:21 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Howell was born in Kelton, SC, on September 14, 1931, a son of the late Willie and Bridgie McCullough Howell. A member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, he retired from Torrington Company, Tyger River Plant and was a member of the Tyger River Plant Retirement Club. Mr. Howell was first married to the late Sara Harris Howell.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Michael Eugene Howell and wife Sandra of Inman; a step-son, Ralph E. Thompson and wife Jan of Union; two sisters, Callie Clark of Union, and Sara Ann Farr of Jonesville; seven brothers, William Howell of Sumter, Howard Howell of Spartanburg, Ned Howell of Savania, GA, Charles Herman Howell of Charleston, Billy Howell of Laurens, Donald Hope Howell of Union, and Russell Howell of San Antonia, TX; grandchildren, Jason Michael Howell and wife Kimberly of Woodruff, Stacie Leigh Howell of Greenville; step-grandchildren, Josh Thompson and Betsy Thompson of Union; and a very special friend, Larry Belue of Union. Mr. Howell was predeceased by two brothers, Ervin Lee Howell and James Edward J. E. Howell.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Roger Plemmon and Rev. Jim Palmer. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Louie Amogene Wright Vaughan, 76, of 3098 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, widow of James Albert Vaughan Sr., passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005 at 2:40 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Vaughan was born in Westfield, N.C. in Stokes County on Jan. 11, 1929, a daughter of the late William B. Wright and Ethel George Wright. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church. Mrs. Vaughan was retired from Milliken & Co., Lockhart Plant.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Helen Gossett and husband Henry, a son, Jim Vaughan and wife Angie, all of Union; three grandchildren, Monty Vaughan and wife Crystal of Irmo, Michael Vaughan and wife Jessica of Summerville and Jason Gossett of Union; five greatgrandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Vaughan of Irmo, Ethan and Reese Vaughan of Summerville and Jason Thomas Gossett of Union; two sisters, Roucha Inman of Westfield, N.C., and Judy Owens of Walnut Cove, N.C. Mrs. Vaughan was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Joyce Louise Knopp Lancaster, 72, wife of Charles F. Lancaster Sr. of 1815 Mudbridge Road, Jonesville, died at her residence Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Lancaster was born in Carlisle, Pa., on Sept. 21, 1932, a daughter of the late Frank and Ella Mae Coons Knopp. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Mrs. Lancaster was retired from Conso Products.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are:a daughter, Linda Tucker and husband Jerry of Pauline; two sons, Charles F. Lancaster Jr. of the home and Frank Lancaster and wife Lajuan of Jonesville; seven grandchildren, Christi Tweed, Chad Neely, Rockey Lancaster, Jason Neely, Kelly Lancaster, Jermery Lancaster and Cassie Lancaster; a greatgrandchild, two special caregivers, Melissa Lee and Shirley Lancaster.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Putman Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman and the Rev. Melvin Shelton.

Glenn Farr
Former Union resident

Harry Glenn Farr, 67, of 1298 Carrir Lynn Drive, Manning, formerly of Union, husband of Elaine Mason Farr, died at his residence Monday.

Mr. Farr was born in Union on April 3, 1938, a son of the late Harry B. Farr and Vivian Henderson Farr. He was a member of the Manning United Methodist Church, a graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Junior College. Mr. Farr was retired from the S.C. Dept. of Parks, Recreation and Tourism as park superintendent. He was also a State Constable and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a step-daughter, Mary Catherine Polk; two step-grandchildren, two sisters, Trudy F. Smith and husband Jim and Karen F. Baker and husband Wayne, all of Union; a brother, Marvin B. Farr of Spartanburg; his mother-in-law, Elleanor B. Mason and his father-in-law, Felix Lee Mason and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Alan Quarles.
Honorary escort will be employees of the S.C. PRT.

The family is at the home of his sister, Trudy and Jim Smith, 115 Hummingbird Lane, Union and will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

Pauline Hicks Lanier, 78, of 122 Spruce St., Union, wife of Grady L. Lanier Sr., died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005 in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Lanier was born in Union on April 8, 1927, a daughter of the late Willie and Icie Mae Cody Hicks. Mrs. Lanier was a member of the Union Church of God, the Ladies Sunday School Class, Union Senior Citizens and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Grady L. Lanier Jr. and wife Brenda of Jonesville; three grandchildren, Sandy L. Greene of Jonesville, Lexa L. Jones of Boiling Springs and Susan Lanier of Spartanburg; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Geene, Maddox Greene, Rebecca Jones and Davis Reed Jones; three sisters, Lula Mae Yarbrough of Spartanburg, Alice Hicks of Enoree and Iris Gosnell of Cowpens; and a bother, Ruben Hicks of Spartanburg. Mrs. Lanier was predeceased by four brothers, Robert Hicks, Claude Hicks, Jesse Hicks and Frank Hicks.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Union Church of God conducted by the Rev. Alton Stone. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Thomas Mulloy Bishop, age 71, husband of Joyce Gault Bishop of 525 Lakeview Heights, Union, SC died suddenly Saturday, September 10, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Bishop was born in Union, SC November 15, 1933, the son of the late John Thomas and Kathryn Greer Bishop. He was a graduate of Union High School, attended Wofford College and was a retired sheet metal crafter. Mr. Bishop was a member of the Lower Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: two daughters; Susan Bishop of Greenville and Joan Frost and husband Joel of Spartanburg, a son; Dean Bishop of Union, a daughter-in-law; Deborah S. Bishop of Santuc, a sister; Rachel Kendrick and husband Eddie of Union, a brother; Lindsey Bishop and wife Linda of Union, two grandchildren; Jacob and Jonah Bishop of Greenville. Robert Bevis

Robert Bevis, 84, husband of Kellie Robinson Bevis of 602 Toney Road, Union, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Bevis was born in Union, Dec. 4, 1920, the son of the late Paul and Mahala Fowler Bevis. He was retired from J.P. Stevens, Jonesville Plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two step-daughters, Betty Shetley of Union and Joan Burgess of Jonesville; a step-son, Robert J. DeHart of Union; a brother, Paul W. Bevis of Pacolet, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Bevis was predeceased by a son, Robert “Bud” Bevis.

Cryptside services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Spartanburg conducted by the Rev. Clinton Goff and the Rev. Robert Johnson.
The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday night.

John Ellis Farr
Retired Educator

Mr. John Ellis Farr, age 59, husband of Brenda Fowler Farr of 523 Philippi Church Road, Union, SC died Tuesday, September 13, 2005.

Mr. Farr was born in Union, March 7, 1946, the son of the late James Ellis and Mary Carter Farr. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and Limestone College, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He also held a Master’s Degree from Clemson University. He was a retired social studies teacher and administrator at Lockhart Schools, having been assistant principal for elementary students at the school. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he had chaired the Administration Board and the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. Mr. Farr represented District 4 on Union County Council for twelve years from January 1987 until January 1999. He served as vice chairman ten of the twelve years. He was the first member of the Union County Council to be elected to the board of directors for the South Carolina Association of Counties. He also was on the Catawba Regional Council of Governments Board. Mr. Farr was a member of the Lockhart Masonic Lodge # 244, a Shriner and an Elk.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: a son; J. Ellis Farr, II and wife Emily Held of Blythwood, SC ;a daughter; Kathy F. Burgess and husband Clarence of Union, one grandchild; Kaitlyn Elaine Burgess of Union. Mr. Farr was predeceased by a brother Harold S. Farr.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, September 15, 2005 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Alan Quarles. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Retired from Mon-Aetna Day Care

Dorothy Bates Moore, 94, widow of James Newton Moore, formerly of Union, died Monday afternoon in the Life Care Center in Columbia.

Mrs. Moore was born in Union on July 29, 1911, a daughter of the late William Claude and Emma Gallman Bates. She was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church and was retired from Mon-Aetna Baptist Church Day Care Center.

Surviving are a daughter, Hazel M. Gault of Lexington; five grandchildren, Pamela Moore of Union, Lisa Glenn and husband Scott of Asheville, N.C., Leslie Mendelsohn and husband Paul of Stroud, England, Sidney W. Gault Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., and Elizabeth Jane Gault of Columbia; three great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Moore was predeceased by a son, James P. Moore and his wife Margaret Patricia Moore; a grandson, James P. Moore Jr., brothers, Emerson Bates, Lee Bates and Lindsay Bates; sisters, Lucille Lawson, Myrtle Bates and Bessie McKinnon.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers.

The body will be placed in church at 1 p.m. Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m.

Florence Maude Gregory

Florence Maude Gregory, age 90, formerly of 632 Fairview Church Circle, Union, died at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home, Wednesday, September 14, 2005

Maude, as she was known, was born in Union Co. April 17, 1915, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Martha Frances Ivey Gregory. She was a devoted caregiver of her family, and loved her garden and working in her yard. Maude was a life long member of Beulah Baptist Church where she served as Junior Girl’s Sunday school teacher, Girl’s Auxiliary Leader, and Baptist Training Union Teacher. She served other duties in the church as she was needed. Maude read her Bible and devotions daily, and she lived a prayful Christian life.

Maude was educated in Union Co., in the Santuck school and the one room James Hope School in the James Hope community of Union Co. In addition to her devotion to her family and church work, she was active in other community services. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by her loved ones.

Maude was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her beloved cousin, Dora L. Bullock and husband, attorney, Robert A. Bullock, Sr. of Irmo. Other surviving cousins who loved her are Dennis Earl Meador and wife Cathryn of Myrtle Beach, Helen Ivey of Union, Pamela Ann Meador of Beaumont, TX, Lt. Col. Robert A. Bullock, Jr. of Columbia, Shirley Diane Bullock of Columbia and Sandra Lee Smith Wright of Aiken. Maude was predeceased by her sister, Vera Mae Gregory.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday at Beulah Baptist Church by Rev. Austin Bennett. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dennis Earl Meador, Robert A. Bullock, Sr, Alvin Wood, Dalton Williams, Grady Horne, Edward Sealy, John Williams and Tom Williams.

Visitation will be held Saturday at the church from 1:00 until 2:30 PM prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Bobby L. Jackson, age 69, husband of Sue Bailey Jackson of 402 South Boyce Street, Union, SC died Thursday, September 15, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Jackson was born in Union, SC August 29, 1936, the son of the late Lawerence and Emmilin Bradley Jackson. He was a retired electrician with Springs Industrial and a member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mr. Jackson was a past master of Masonic Lodge #351, a member of the Hejaz Shrine for thirty years and a member of the Hejaz Racers.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a son; Bobby L. Jackson, Jr. and wife Barbara of Lockhart, a sister; Betty Gregory of Florida, two granddaughters; Stephanie Wright and friend Phillip Strong , Wendy Jackson and friend Channing West, a grandson; Travis Henderson of Virginia, three great-grandchildren; Brittany Wright, Madyson West and Nickolas Strong all of Union.Mr. Jackson was predeceased by a daughter; Lynn Jackson, three sisters; Estelle Keasler, Ruth Hollingsworth and Roselle McKowen, two brothers; Lonzo Jackson and Claude Jackson.

Myrtle Palmer Moss, 90, widow of Rufus Moss of 136 Sunset Road, Union, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Moss was born in Union Nov. 11, 1914, the daughter of the late Charlie and Sallie Gault Palmer. She was retired from Union Mill and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Lillie Moss Grant and Virginia Moss Thompson of Jonesville; two sons, William Moss of West Springs and Harrison Moss of Union; a grandson, Robert Wells of the home; a sister, Katie P. Garner of Union; 12 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren. Mrs. Moss was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Moss Sullivan; a sister, Annie Bell Smith, three brothers, Mack Palmer, John Palmer and Sidney Palmer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat and the Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Betty Bishop Belue, age 73, of 221 East Main Street, Fairforest Apts #210 Union, SC died Friday, September 16, 2005 at her home after a brief illness.

Mrs. Belue was born July 1, 1932 in Union, SC, the daughter of the late Fred & Julia Bishop Bishop. She graduated Union High School and retired from United Merchants- Buffalo Plant. She was a member of Lower Fairforest Baptist Church.

Survivors are: four daughters; Connie R. McCoy and husband Gerald , Julie Hart and husband Jim, Pat Gault and fiancé Steve Greene and Bonnie Elliott all of Union, a sister; Hazel Trent of Union, six grandchildren; Angela Hale, Joshua Freeman, Travis Wages, Amanda Black, Haley McCoy, Jami Hart and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jim Cunningham and Dr. Joe W. Smith. The Family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service. Active pallbearers will be Roger Bishop, Donald Hawkins, Leonard Smith, Ben Smith, Greg Greene and Jake Black. The following are asked to assemble at the graveside at 2:45 P.M. to form the Honorary Pallbearers; Martin Smith, Albert Bates, James Wix, Gary Savage and Kim Stevens.

Billy Eugene Holcombe

Mr. Billy Eugene Holcombe, age 76, husband of Betty Jo Mauldin Holcombe of 100 East South Street, Union, SC died Saturday, September 17, 2005 in Wallace Thompson Hospital.

Mr. Holcombe was born at the Holcombe home place on Kelly Road in Union County, August 17, 1929. He was a son of the late Samuel Ratchford Holcombe and Irene Fowler Holcombe. He was a 1947 graduate of Union High School and attended the University of South Caorlina, He was a graduate of Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science and was a licensed embalmer and funeral director. He was president and co-owner of Holcombe Funeral Home which was founded by his parents in May of 1949. He was a life long farmer and owner of Holcombe Well Boring, a water well boring business started by his father in the 1920's. He was founder and president of Holcombe Cemeteries, Inc. Mr. Holcombe was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union, the S.C. Funeral Directors Association, the S.C. Cemetery Association, the National Funeral Directors Association and in 2004 was named Funeral Director of the Year by the S.C. Funeral Directors Association-Piedmont Group. He served on the S.C. State Board of Funeral Service from 1992-1995. He was a member of the Union County Cattleman’s Association, a past member of the Board of Directors for the Union County Farm Bureau, was a member of the Board of Directors of Union Academy and was chairman and a driving force behind the building committee of Union Academy Memorial Gymnasium. He was a veteran of U.S. Army and during his service Mr. Holcombe worked in Graves Registery in a military mortuary in Frankfurt, Germany.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son; William Eugene Holcombe and wife Jennifer "Sissy" Holcombe of Union, a sister; Faye Holcombe Williamson of Whitmire, two grandchildren; Sarah Simmons Holcombe and William Eugene "Will" Holcombe of Union. Mr. Holcombe was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Holcombe Genoble and a brother, August Fowler Holcombe.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Union conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory and the Rev. Bill Adams. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers will be present and past employees of Holcome Funeral Home, Holcombe Cemeteries, Holcombe Farms and members of the S.C. Funeral Directors Association.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:30 Monday, September 19, 2005 at the funeral home.

Sara Elizabeth Blair Blackmon, 80, widow of the late James E. Blackmon, 404 Wilson Street, Union, died at home Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, after an extended illness.

Born in L o ck h a r t , M r s. Blackmon was the daughter of the late F r a n k l i n Andrew Blair and Laura Snyder Blair. She was a 1941 graduate of Lockhart High School, and graduated from Winthrop College for Women. Mrs. Blackmon was a homemaker for many years, volunteering in many capacities throughout the community. She served as a case worker for the Department of Social Services for ten years. Mrs. Blackmon was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for 45 years and was lately an active member of the Young At Heart Group. She was a sustaining member of the Junior Charity League, a member of the UDC, the FCL Club, Grace United Methodist Women’s Circle of Hope, the Tuesday night bridge clubs for over 40 years, and the Thursday morning bridge club.

She is survived by son Steven Blair Blackmon of New Orleans; daughter Dale Blackmon Goff and husband Larry Nichols Goff of Union; a sister Anne Blair Bailey and husband Calvin Keith Bailey of Union; a brother-in-law L. Hall Boyle and wife Hazel of Spartanburg; grandchildren Andrew Eugene Wetmore of Union and Blair Elizabeth Wetmore of Columbia; greatgrandson Cameron Trent Wetmore of Union; nieces Carolyn Blair Belue and Sandra Blair West of Union; Jane Boyle Loyless of Welford; Lu Anne Stokes and husband Tim of Charlotte; nephews Calvin Keith Bailey, Jr. and wife Mary Kaye of Walterboro and Donnie Blair of Little Rock, Ark.; three special greatnephews Calvin Keith Bailey III, Stewart Palmer Bailey and James Montgomery Bailey, also of Walterboro; and special friends Marlene Proctor and Roger Worley.

She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Mary Willie Blair and Grace Blair Boyle; brothers Roy Franklin Blair, Horace Hugh Blair, and half-sister Avernell Blair Rush.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gary Byrd. Pallbearers will be Calvin Bailey, Charles Clementson, Jerry Kingsmore, Tim Stokes, Melvin Stone and Andy Wetmore. Honorary pallbearers will be John Brown, J. C. Bryan, Ernest Comer, Jim Cunningham, Brock Dillard, Frank Edwards, Jack Kelly, Doug Lawing, James Liner, Ken McKenzie, Harry Pecco, Jack Rash, Harold Simmons and Bill Tate.

Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at Holcombe Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Fund, Grace United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Miss Elizabeth P. Lawson, 89, of Union died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Miss Lawson was born in Union on May 5, 1916, the daughter of the late J. Lewis and Minnie Scales Lawson. She graduated Kelly Pinckney School and was a retired textile worker. After retiring from textiles she was a nurse’s aid at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Miss Lawson was a member of Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a former choir member, a member of the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class, and a member of the United Methodist Women.

Survivors are a brother, James W. Lawson and wife Doris of Union; a sister-inlaw, Mary Margaret Lawson of Union; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers, Sarah L. Sprouse, Margaret Lawson, J.L. Lawson and Perrin Lawson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Sidney Lawson, Michael Morrison, John Morrison, William Jolly, Brad Horne, Richie Sumner and Rodney Johnson.

SENECA — Annie Rae Cain Swaney, 89, of Brentwood Dr., Seneca, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 at home. She was born June 28, 1916 in the Oakway Community. She was a member of Hepsibah Baptist Church for over 40 years and was retired from Oconee County School System and had worked for J.P. Stevens Co.

Survivors include a son, Nelson H. “Ned” Swaney of the home; sisters, Selma Morgan, Willie Bearden, and Dorothy Sinclair, one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah Welch and Anna Carroll Cain, sisters, Helena Cox, Ruby Moore, Elise Byars, Adn Suela Baldwin, brothers, Edwin and Curtis Cain.

Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hepsibah Baptist Church with the Rev. John McKnight and the Rev. Michael Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Oconee Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 this evening. at the Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of Seneca. The family will be at the home at other times.

Mrs. Shetley was born in Union, Feb. 26, 1924, daughter of the late Marvin and Olie Mae Crocker Shetley. She was of the Baptist faith.

SANDERSVILLE, GA — Billie Ethyl McKain Johnson Adams, 102, widow of Thomas J. Adams, of Sparta Healthcare died in Washington County Regional Medial Center in Sandersville, GA., Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005.

Mrs. Adams was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a granddaughter, Lane Johnson, and a daughter-in-law, Eva Johnson, both of Athens, GA; a sister-in-law, Verna McKain of Newberry. She was predeceased by a son, Monroe Johnson.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery in Union.
