Mrs. Elizabeth Laxton Hughes, age 67, wife of James C. Hughes of 818 Tuckertown Rd., Carlisle, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Hughes was born in Carlisle, August 1, 1939 a daughter of the late Roy R. and Opal Lequire Laxon. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church of Whitmire and was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter: Donna Mitchell and husband Todd of Carlisle; two grandsons: James Eric DePratter of the home and Tyler Mitchell of Carlisle; one sister: Joan Sumner of Union; one brother: Roy Raymond Laxton of Fountian Inn; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hughes is also survived by her loving dog, Max.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at Bethesda Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Steve Young and Rev. Edgar Foster. Burial will be in Kelly Chapel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Sumner, Brooks Sumner, Bill Farmer, Danny Sumner, Miller Riddle, Tom Stokes, Chad Laxton and Eddie Laxton.

The family will receive friends 7:00 until 9:00 PM Monday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Ethel Gwinn Hollowinski Conley
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Ethel Gwinn Hollowinski Conley, age 90, widow of Henry Conley, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at Oakmont Nursing Center.

Mrs. Conley was born in Marquette, Mich., April 8, 1916, a daughter of the late Emmit and Mary May Gwinn. She attended Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Conley was first married to the late Frank B. Hollowinski.

Surviving are three daughters: Patricia H. Hella, Sue Hollowinski and Sally Hollowinski all of Union; one son: Clarence "Chummy" Hollowinski and wife Dianneof Las Vegas, NV; two sisters: Marion Kjellander of Negaunee, MI and Grace Loughead of Marquette, MI; one brother: Paul Gwinn of Marquette, MI; seven grandchildren: Patty Vaughan and Jackie Hollowinski both of Union, Roy Hella and Nancy Diz both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cheryl Hella- Gonzales of Mankato, Kansas, Mark Hollowinski and Kevin Hollowinski both of Las Vegas, NV;11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carroll Caldwell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The staff of Oakmont Nursing Center are asked to sit in a group.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service at the church.

Jesse R. Moss
Jonesville, S.C.

Mr. Jesse R. "Jake" Moss , age 93, widower of Maggie Hawkins Moss, formerly of Lybrand St., Jonesville, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mr. Moss was born in Jonesville, Nov. 23, 1912, a son of the late John Roland Moss and Maude O’Dell Moss. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Plant, Jonesville and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church. He and his wife, Maggie, were co-founders of the Ball Room Dance Club in Union and were members of several other dance clubs.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter: Elaine M. Wilson of the home; one granddaughter: Stephanie Smith and husband Jeff of Jonesville; one grandson: Michael McDade and wife Ruth of Charleston; two great-granddaughters: Megan Smith and Morgan Smith of Jonesville; two great-grandsons: Jacob McDade of Charleston and James McDade and wife Carrie of Union; one great-great-granddaughter: Hailey McDade of Union. Mr. Moss was predeceased by a daughter: Nita Hayes, two sisters: Nannie Kirby and Carrie McBride, two brothers: Earl Moss and Rufus Moss all from Jonesville.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

Ruby Lamb Kendrick

Mrs. Ruby Lamb Kendrick, age 91, widow of Oscar Carl Kendrick died Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Kendrick was born in Union, SC, April 1, 1915, a daughter of the late William Arthur Lamb, Sr. and Iris Willard Lamb. She was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors are; a daughter, Connie K. DeBruhl and husband O’Neil of Lenoir City, Tenn., a son, Eddie Carl Kendrick, Sr. and wife Rachel of Union, seven grandchildren: Catherine Stevens of Knoxville, Tenn, Jane Dunigan and husband Steve of Loudon, Tenn, Fred DeBruhl, Jr and wife Teresa of Lenoir City, Tenn, Kreslyn Ruckman and husband John of Gallatin, Tenn, Eddie Kendrick, Jr, Carolyn Arthur and husband Ronnie of Union and Kathy Timberlake and husband Gil of Rural Hall, NC and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kendrick was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters: Robert "Bob" Lamb, William Arthur "Bill" Lamb, Mae Lamb Wix and Catherine Lamb Jolly.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by her nephew, Rev. Billy Jolly.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Faye Eubanks Howard
Union, SC

Mrs. Faye Eubanks Howard, age 79 of Union, SC, widow of Ralph H. Howard died Tuesday, October 3, 2006.

Mrs. Howard was born in Lockhart, SC, May 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Roy Eubanks and Della Frost Eubanks. She was a member of Lockhart United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors are her sons, Roger Howard and wife Carolyn, Michael L. Howard and John "Tim" Howard, two sisters: Cora Smith and Dot Salley, one grandson, Frank Howard and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Howard.

Friends and family will be received at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home in Union, Friday, October 6, 2006 from 1:00-2:30 PM with Graveside Services following at 2:45 PM at Union Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Thank you to all that cared for and visited Faye through her illness. Faye’s love and devotion will be missed by all.

Eunice Pearl Varner
Buffalo, SC

Mrs. Eunice Pearl Lancaster Varner, age 88, widow of Walter Glenn Varner, of 306 Fire Lane, Buffalo, SC died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at her home.

Mrs. Varner was born in Adamsburg, SC March 24, 1918, a daughter of the late T.B. Lancaster, Sr and Eunice Pearl Burgess Lancaster. She retired from United Merchants- Buffalo Plant. She was a faithful member of Buffalo Baptist Church where she and her husband served as Custodians for thirty-six years. She was also a member of the WMU and the TEL Sunday School Class. Mrs. Varner was a Seamstress and mowed yards for many people in the community. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors are twin daughters, Jane Padgett of Spartanburg and Jean Gregory and husband Howard of Graham, NC, a son, John Walter Varner and wife Brooks of Buffalo, eight grandchildren: Barbara Voiselle, Teresa Martin both of Buffalo, Scott Gregory of Conway, Lynda Watson, Lisa Allen both of Simpsonville, Tim Varner of Union, Allan Gregory of Lake Wylie and Penny Culp of Inman, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 6, 2006 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Anderson and Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

The following grandsons will serve as active pallbearers: Scott Gregory, Allan Gregory, Tim Varner, Tommy Lawson, Ted Allen and Pat Watson.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday night at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

John C. Hart
Former Legislator
Union, S.C.

John Calhoun Hart, 86, husband of Sally Greer Hart of 461 Lee Road, Jonesville, died Thursday afternoon in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hart was born in Spartanburg County on Aug. 18, 1920, a son of the late Millard Lowery and Carrie Louise McCravy Hart. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He represented Union County in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1954 until 1964.

For 39 years he taught English,Spanish and German, retiring from Chapman High School. After retiring from the public school system he taught Spanish courses at USC-Union.

He was a member of West Springs Baptist Church and American Legion Post #129 in Jonesville where he served twice as post commander. Lifelong passions were the love he had for his family, farm and community.

Surviving in addition to his wife are six children: Dr. Cynthia H. Squires and husband Randall of Easley, Jane H. Hammett and husband Vess of West Springs, John C. Hart Jr. and wife Karen of Fredricksburg, Va., Charles M. Hart of Mt. Pleasant and David G. Hart and wife Patti of Raleigh, N.C., and Frank Hart and wife Amelia of West Springs; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Louise H. Starnes of Columbus, N.C.; and a brother, James M. Hart of Lake Bowen. Mr. Hart was predeceased by a grandson, Adam Squires.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at 3 p.m. at West Springs Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Henry Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. at West Springs Baptist Church Social Hall. Active pallbearers will be Ben Squires, Matt Squires, Will Hammett, Jim Griggs, Kevin Hart and Ryan Marcello. The following are asked to assemble at the church at 2:45 p.m. Sunday to form the honorary escort: Ed and Carol Heatherly, Paul and Frances Sherfield, Mansel and Frances Gowan, Mallie Smith, Mrs. Mae Tucker, Joe and Linda Nave, Aileen Quinn and former members of the Wal-Mart Coffee Sippers Club.

Rose Ellen Mason

Rose Ellen Mason, 63, of Beverly Health Care Hendersonville, N.C. , died Saturday afternoon at Parkridge Hospital, Fletcher, N.C.

Miss Mason was born in Pauline, S.C. on July 10, 1943, the daughter of the late Harold Lee Mason and the late Katie Toney Mason. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Laurens.

Surviving are two sisters: Margaret M. Chastain, Carolyn M. Mundy both of Laurens, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at 3:00 P.M. at the Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. J.D. Shiflet and the Rev. Daniel Waters. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at the Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel.

Mack Roger Norwood, 60, husband of Joanne Mathis Norwood of 2570 West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, died at his residence, after a sudden illness.

Mr. Norwood was born in Hendersonville, N.C. on April 14, 1946, a son of the late Nelson Norwood. He is survived by his mother Margaret Fisher Norwood. He was a member of West Springs Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Hendersonville High School, served in the US Army, and retired from DuPont in Bevard, N.C.

Mr. Norwood is survived by a daughter, Toshi Norwood of Hendersonville, a son, Ashley and wife, Toni Norwood of Fletcher N.C., a sister, Carolyn Mace of Spindale, N.C.,a Brother Nelson Norwood of Hendersonville, N.C., a stepdaughter Cheryl Billings and husband James of Blacksburg, S.C., a stepson, Terry Heatherly of Jonesville, S.C., and six Grandchildren. Mr. Norwood was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Thomas.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at Shepard Memorial Park, Hendersonville, N.C. conducted by the Rev. William Carpenter.

Sheila S. Parker

Mrs. Sheila S. Parker, age 49, wife of Samuel C. Parker of 8025 Lockhart Hwy., Sharon, SC died Monday, October 9, 2006 at her home

Mrs Parker was born in Lockhart, SC April 13, 1957, a daughter of Walter Campbell and Martha McCutcheon Campbell of Sharon. She was formerly employed with Fruit of the Loom in Kings Mt., NC and was a member of Inspiration Baptist Church of Rock Hill.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are; a son, Dusty Parker and wife Danette, a grandson, Chase Parker all of Sharon, two sisters: Tammy Campbell of Union and Debbie Campbell of Sharon, a brother, Guy Holler of Spartanburg and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Bullocks Creek Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Roland Dry, Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Joyce Elizabeth Wiggins, age 62 died Monday, October 9, 2006 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Ms. Wiggins was born in Union, SC January 26, 1944, a daughter of the late Glenn Wiggins and June Ochiltree Wiggins. She retired United Merchants- Buffalo Plant and attended Greater Union Church.

Survivors are; a daughter, Sherrie Coats of Union, two sons: Douglas Puckett of Lugoff and John Turner of Union, a sister, Mollie Puckett of Buffalo, a brother, Ronald Wiggins of Union, six grandchildren: Renee’ Sackrider, Crystal Smith, Nikkie Smith ,"Man" Coats, Nicole Coats and Cristen Bailey Turner and one great-grandchild, Alexis Rose.

Funeral services will held 4:00 PM Thursday, October 12, 2006 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Chaplain Robert Branch. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Dr. James T. Wiggins
Union, SC

Dr. James Thomas Wiggins, age 72, of 2502 Santuc Carlisle Hwy., Union, SC died at his home Thursday, October 12, 2006.

Dr. Wiggins was born in Lockhart, SC April 22, 1934, a son of the late Thomas Daniel and Essie Jane Gibby Wiggins. He was a 1956 graduate of Wofford College and a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. Dr. Wiggins was a retired Pediatrician having practiced in West Columbia, SC. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving are a number of cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Guy Langston. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 AM Tuesday at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. MarySue Holcomb Keith, age 96, of 3005 West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, SC, widow of Martin Keith, died Friday, October 13, 2006 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Keith was born in West Springs, SC October 3, 1910, a daughter of the late Ezra Holcomb and Bessie Miller Holcomb. She was a 1931 graduate of Limestone College and retired from Union County Schools having taught at West Springs, Putman, Central and Foster Park Schools. Mrs. Keith was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church where she taught the MarySue Keith Sunday School Class, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teachers Association and United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors are; a son and his wife, David & Sue Keith of Union, a grandson and his wife, Philip & Harmony Keith and a granddaughter and her husband, Emily & Tim Smith all of Columbia. Mrs. Keith was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Elyse Keith Jones.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 15 2006 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Gary Peterson and Rev. Clayton Price. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr Jospeh Burrell "Joe" Hulon, age 76, husband of Ann Gault Hulon of 214 Hillcrest Drive, Union, SC died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hulon was born in Newberry, SC July 16, 1930, a son of the late Rufus Armstead and Fannie Lyles Hulon. He graduated Union High School and retired as a insurance salesman with the Life of Virginia Insurance Company. Mr. Hulon was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a Mason and a member of the BPO Elks Lodge #1321.

Surviving in addition to his wife are; a son, Joseph Michael Hulon, a sister, Lou H. Smith, a granddaughter, two great-grandchildren all of Union and several nephews.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Gary Byrd.

The following are asked to assemble at the cemetery at 2:45 PM to form the Honorary Escort; Gene Gregory, Mac Glymph, Charlie Vaughan, Don Winslow, Ralph Woodward, Willard Jackson, Bill Stoddard and Jim Cunningham.

Claude William Moore

Mr. Claude William "Bill" Moore, age 83, of 305 Rogerstown Rd., Jonesville, SC, widower of Margaret Morgan Moore died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Moore was born in Columbia, SC, November 25, 1922, a son of the late John Moore and Anna Ouzts Moore. He graduated from Jonesville High School and Robinson Business School. Mr. Moore also completed several Speciality Courses in Cotton Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering and Quality Control. He retired from J.P. Stevens & Co.- Jonesville Plant as Industrial Engineering and Planning Manager. Mr. Moore was a Veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps having served in World War II in the European Theater as Technical Supply NCO. While with the U.S. Air Corps, he was attached to Lockheed Oversees Corp. in Northern Ireland.

Survivors are; two sons: Claud Moore, Jr. and wife Brenda of Pacolet Mills, SC and Richard Moore and wife Mary of Union, two sisters: Betty Ochiltree of Taylors, SC and Virginia Scott of St. Augustine, Fl, two brothers: Leonard Moore and Johnny Moore both of Jonesville, five grandchildren: Lisa Canipe and husband Aron of Cherryville, NC, Amanda Newton and husband Trey of Union, Frank Moore of Anderson, Kenneth Moore of Gray, Ga and Jerri Baxter, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren .Mr Moore was predeceased by a son, Joe Moore and a sister, Grace Nelson.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 16, 2006 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. H. Lawton Neely and Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors.

Mrs. Brewington was born in Kelton, SC June 21, 1916, a daughter of the late Will Inman and Mae Hamm Inman. She was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her husband are; a daughter, Mary Lois Swanger, a son, Norman Ray Brewington and wife Melanie all of Lockhart, a brother, Bud Inman of Union, three grandchildren: Lisa Shetley, Monica Wilson and Joey Blackwell, four great-grandchildren: Kevin Flowers, Christopher Wilson, Kelly Flowers and Chelsey Wilson and a great-great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Newton.

Mrs. Ruth Bullington Toney, age 82, widow of James R. Toney of Marantha Manor, East Main St., Spartanburg, SC died Friday, October 20, 2006 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Toney was born in Union, SC July 7, 1924, a daughter of the late Claude Bullington and Willie Mae Phillips Bullington. She retired from Oakland Mill, Newberry, SC and was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.

Survivors are; a son, James H. Judith Ann Kitchens Johnson

Mrs. Judith Ann Kitchens Johnson passed away on October 19, 2006 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Union, SC on August 7, 1932, the daughter of Hubert H. and Virginia Cunningham Kitchens. She was a graduate of Union High School and Winthrop College Class of 1952. A teacher in the public schools of South Carolina for thirty-two years, she taught in Spartanburg, Union, Hartsville, West Columbia and Belton. A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, she served the church in numerous capacities over the years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg for the past sixteen years.

Judy is survived by her husband, David N. Johnson of Spartanburg, a daughter and son-in-law, Doctors Cindy and Donald Johnson-Taylor and a granddaughter, Olivia Cooley, all of Columbia. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law: Bucky and Donna Kitchens of Union; a brother-in-law and sister-in- law: Robert and Libby Johnson of Chesnee; an aunt: Edith Cunningham Rhodes of Omaha, Nebraska; an aunt and uncle: Jim and Louise Johnson of Columbia, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 21 from 5:00 – 7:30 pm at Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg.

A graveside service celebrating the life of Judith Kitchens Johnson will be held at Union Memorial Gardens on Sunday, October 22 at 3:00 pm conducted by Rev. Luther Rickenbaker and Rev. Mr. Michael F. Kitchens, 39, husband of Karen Cooksey Kitchens, of 114 Bates Ave. Ext., Union, died Sat. Oct. 21, 2006 at the MUSC after an extended illness.

Mr. Kitchens was born in Union, Dec. 22, 1966, a son of the late Johnny Kitchens and Joyce Howell Kitchens. He was former employed as a security guard at the Tyger River Correctional Facility and was a member of Ottarary Baptist Church. Mr. Kitchens was an avid football fan and NASCAR fan.

Mr. Fred Jackson Phillips, age 81, of 102 Churchill St., Union, husband of Betty M. Phillips, died unexpectedly at his home, Sunday Oct. 22, 2006.

Mr. Phillips was born in Union, November 2, 1924, a son of the late D.B. Phillips and Mallie Israel Phillips. He was first married to the late Martha James Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil’s Business College and was a retired agent with Life of Virginia Insurance Co. He had previously served a 16 year term as Union County Coroner ending in 1973. Mr. Phillips was the last surviving Charter Member of Union High School Booster Club and was also a member of the Union Shrine Club, BPO Elks’s Lodge # 1321, was a mason and a member of the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association and the American Legion. He had served on the Union County Meals on Wheels Board and was inducted into the S.C. Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Melissa P. Mrs. West was born February 19, 1924 in Cliffside, NC, a daughter of the late William L. and Elizabeth Humphries Callahan. She was a retired beautician and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mrs. West was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. James was born in Union, SC September 27, 1922 , a daughter of the late Frank and Ramoth Frances Bailey Glass. She was a graduate of Union High School and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she served on the Altar Guild, Pastor-Parish Relation Committee, a Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Circle of Hope. Mrs. James was also a member of the Union Lioness Club, Union Jr. Charity League and helped to start "The Canteen" at Wallace Thomson Hospital. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother and an avid Bridge player.

Survivors are; two sons: Dr. Bill James and wife Brenda of Spartanburg and Dr. Paul B. James and wife Julie of Seven Lakes, NC, two granddaughters: Alison James of Southern Pines, NC and Ann Marie James of Seven Lakes, NC, a grandson, William Frank "Tripp" James, III of Greenville and a sister Sara Glass Collier of Southern Pines, NC. Mrs. Hodge was born in Pacolet, SC, April 7, 1924, a daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Wells Trantham. She was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her husband are; two sons: C. Wilbur Hodge, Jr and wife Carolyn "Pitsy" of Simpsonville and Lynn W. Hodge of Greenville. Mrs. Hodge was predeceased by a daughter, Emma Hodge Nichols.

Mr. John Preston Carwile, age 77, husband of Gloria Glymph Carwile, 301 Glendale Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006.

Mr. Carwile was born in Calhoun Falls, Dec. 19, 1928, a son of the late Addison Brooks Carwile, Sr., and Alice Callaham Carwile. He was a 1949 graduate of Clemson University and a veteran of the U.S. Army Reservist. Mr. Carwile was owner and former manager of the John Carwile Personnel Consultants, Inc. in Union, where he staffed textile companies through out the United States. He was also formerly employed with Milliken and Co., Excelsior Plant and Cone Mill, Carlisle Plant. Mr. Carwile was member of the First Baptist Church where he previously served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the BPO Elks Lodge # 1321 and was a past president of the Union Jaycees. Mr. Carwile was a devoted and loving husband, father and grand father.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Gail Carwile Hamrick and husband Wardlaw of Gaffney and Allison Carwile Wilson and husband Phil of Spartanburg; two sons: Steven Wallace Carwile and wife Ann of Seneca and Preston Brooks Carwile of Union; four sisters: Frances C. Mr. Charles Maxcy "Diddy Boo" Coleman, age 62, husband of Arana Talley Coleman of 1307 Linersville Rd., Buffalo, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

Mr. Coleman was born in Buffalo, June 12, 1944, a son of the late Willie and Gertrude Elrod Coleman. He was retired Director of the Union County Detention Center and had previously served as a law enforcement officer for the town of Jonesville. Mr. Coleman was a graduate of the Fruitland Bible Seminary in Hendersonville, NC and the Mid-Atlantic Bible College in Rock Hill. He formerly served as pastor of College Street Baptist Church in Newberry, Calvary Baptist Church in Barnwell and Hopewell Baptist Church in Blacksburg where he maintained his membership. Mr. Coleman was a member of the S.C. Law Enforcement Association and the Union County Coon Hunters Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Brandi C. Rochester and husband Kevin of Pacolet and Christa Coleman of Greenwood; three sisters: Brenda C. Wells and husband Stanley of Buffalo, Helen C. Kelly of Arlington, TX, and Nell C. Ponder and husband Max of Buffalo; two brothers: Harold Coleman and wife Linda of Buffalo and Ronald Coleman and wife Ann of Wellford. Mr. Coleman was a loving grandfather to two grandchildren: Payne Coleman and Aleah Lazurick. He was predeceased by a grandson, Cody Keeler, a sister, Bobbie Justice and a brother Dan Coleman.
