Paul Henry "Cowboy" Davis
Union, SC

Mr. Paul Henry "Cowboy" Davis, age 77, of 160 Willow Rd., Pacolet, SC died Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at his home.

Mr. Davis was born in Union, SC May 5, 1929, a son of the late John Henry Davis and Pearl Franklin Davis. He was formerly employed with J.P. Stevens-Jonesville Plant and Pacolet Rock Quary. Mr. Davis was also a former member of the S.C. National Guard and was of the Baptist Faith. He was formerly married to the late Ruby Kirby Davis

Survivors are a son, Brent "Egghead" Davis and special friend Marlene Ethridge, a daughter-in-law Linda Davis all of Jonesville, three grandchildren: Carl Davis and wife Christy of Shallotte, NC, Phillip Davis and wife Tammy of Woodruff and April Davis of Union, three great-grandchildren: Hannah Davis of Painesville, Ohio, Bailey Davis and Jarad Davis both of Woodruff one step-great-grandson, Blake Davis of Woodruff and a special friend, Geneva Millwood of Greer. Mr. Davis was predeceased by a son, Wayne Davis, three brothers, Jim Franklin, Arthur Davis, Newell "Bud" Davis and a great-grandson.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by Dr. Ricky Cook.

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery.

The family will be at the home of his son, Brent "Egghead" Davis, 896 Bobby Little Rd., Jonesville, SC 29353.

Fred Wendell Colson
Retired Navy Veteran

Mr. Fred Wendell Colson, age 65, husband of Vivian Franklin Colson of 208 Cambridge Drive, Union, SC died Friday, February 2, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Colson was born in Union, SC May 7, 1941 a son of the late Robert P. Colson and Louise Hall Colson. He was a life long member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church where he was a member of Ralph Alexander Sunday School Class. Mr. Colson was also a member of the American Legion, a Life member of the Union Masonic Lodge #75, a former Union City Councilman and a former Salvation Army Board Member and was a decorated U.S. Navy Veteran. He retired from the Naval Reserve as Chief Petty Officer-Surface Warfare Specialist after twenty-four years of combined active duty and reserve Military Service. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Senior Reserve Chief Petty Officer of the USS Bigelow DD-942 (augmentation crew). He was also a retired employee of the Torrington Company-Tyger River Plant after thirty-two years of service.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Alma Rebekah Colson Rullmann and husband Damon of Summerville, SC, two sons, Robert Allen Colson and Jason Matthew Colson and wife Heather all of Union, four grandchildren: Ashley Elizabeth Colson, Jacob Carter Colson both of Union, Aurora Rose Rullmann and Bradley Rullman both of Summerville,SC, sisters and brothers, Frances C. Knight of Lancaster, SC, Ann C. Hawkins of Chesnee, Johnnie C. Sherbert of Union and Joseph H. Olson of Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Colson was predeceased by a younger brother.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Benny Green with Military Honors.

The following are asked to assemble at the gravesite at 2:45 PM to form the Honorary Escort, Members of the Ralph Alexander Sunday School Class, Tom Williams, Dalton Williams, Stanley Jenkins, Ted Wilson, Eugene Sprouse and Sammy Sumner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 PM Saturday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

James Floyd Bradburn
Union, SC

Mr. James Floyd Bradburn, age 58, husband of Karen Weston Bradburn of 203 Wilson Street, Union, SC died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at his home.

Mr. Bradburn was born in Union, SC, a son of the late George Bradburn and Oby Lee Davis Bradburn. He was formerly employed with Union Mills and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Julie Bradburn of Union, a son, George Dane Bradburn of the home, two grandchildren, Brittany Taylor and Elizabath Taylor both of Union, four brothers: Frankie Bradburn and Donald Lee Bradburn both of Kings Mt., NC, Marvin Bradburn and Everette Bradburn both of Jonesville, two sisters, Linda Horne of Union and Debbie McFalls of Shelby, NC. Mr. Bradburn was predeceased by three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jerry Ford and Rev. Chris Keys.

The family will receive friends 1:00-1:45 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the service.

Earl Calvin Delk
Union, SC

Mr. Earl Calvin Delk, age 83 of Pinckney Place, 1300 South Pinckney Street, Union, SC died Sunday, February 4, 2007.

Mr. Delk was born February 5, 1924, in Newport News, Va, the son of the late Jesse and Mary Pettigrew Delk. Earl was raised in his teenage years by foster parents, John and Agnes Butler of Hume, Va. Earl was married nearly forty-five years to the late Margaret Moss Delk of Moss Hollow, Hume, VA. Earl was also predeceased by his second wife, Mary Dowd of Union. Mr. Delk enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served as a corpsman on a naval hospital ship. After the war, Earl managed a fine arts ceramic manufacturing facility in Pennsylavania.

Earl Delk was always positive and pleasant and spent his later years in Union helping people, mentoring children in need and assisting the elderly. Known a s the "Chair Man", he was a master weaver of cane and rush seats for antique chairs. Mr. Delk was also proud to be an organ and tissue donor and will continue to help between 80 and 100 people through his donation.

Surviving are a daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Delk Schinnerer and her husband Rod of Carmel, CA, four sons: John Delk and wife Betty of Naples, FL, Stuart Delk and wife Paula Cooper-Delk of Dayton, OH, Fred Delk and wife Elaine of Columbia, SC and George Delk of Richmond, VA as well as four grandchildren, Jenny Powell of San Jose, CA, Katie Ching of Pasadena, CA, Andrew Schinnerer of Carmel, CA and Audrey Delk of Columbia, SC.

Maggie Lawson Alverson
Union, SC

Mrs. Maggie Lawson Alverson, age 85, widow of William "Bill" G. Alverson, Jr., passed away at Mary Black Memorial Hospital Monday, February 5, 2007.

Mrs. Alverson was born September 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Ben Lawson and Annie Mae Davis Lawson. A native of Union, SC, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union and an active member of the Bethany Sunday School Class and the WMU.

Mrs. Alverson is survived by two sons, William G. Alverson, III and wife Peggy of York PA and Ben Bishop Alverson and wife Beckie of Union, four grandchildren: Eric Alverson and wife Meg of Hillsborough, NC, Brian Alverson and wife April of Winston Salem, NC, Adam Alverson and wife Amanda of Salem, VA and Bridget Fowler and husband Hal of Jonesville, five great grandchildren, Emma and Rachel Alverson, William and Samuel Alverson and Madison Fowler, one brother-in-law, Walter Alverson and wife Elsie of Santuck, SC and one niece, Reba Turner ;and husband David of Santuck. She is also survived by a care giver and dear friend, Hazel Gregory of Jonesville.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Alverson was preceded in death by her brother, J.W. Lawson and wife Carol, two nieces, Becky Lawson Gilliam and Kaye Lawson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Union, conducted by Rev. Robert Emory of the First Baptist Church of Union and Rev. Brian Alverson of Bethany Baptist Church,Winston Salem, NC. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be Ardie McPherson, Donnie Ivey, Joe Davis, Paul Burgess, Carrol Alexander and Ed. Walcher. Members of Bethany Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

The family will receive friends 4:30-6:30 PM Wednesday evening a the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The family will be at Mrs. Alverson’s home on West Main Street in Union.

Fred Edward Haney
Buffalo, SC

Mr. Fred Edward Haney, age 74, husband of Velda Turner Haney of 912 Flat Drive, Buffalo, SC died Monday, February 5, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Haney was born in Whitmire, SC May 5, 1932, a son of the late Arthur Lee Haney and Myrtle King Haney Cole. He was a retired construction worker and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Kathy Ivey and husband Charles of Gaffney, two sons, Stanley Haney and wife Tammy of Buffalo and Eddie Haney of Union, a sister Betty Crawford of Union and a brother Clifford Haney of Greenville, fifteen grandchildren: Rachel Rice, Tim Atchley, Shane Atchley, Jennifer Ivey, Ann Ivey, Brandy Ivey, Eric Ivey, Charlie Ivey, Amanda Bobo, Kevin Haney, Crystal Haney, Stacy Haney, Lynn Haney Shelley Vinson, reared in the home and Chris Foster and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Haney was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Haney Ruff, two sisters, Ethel Brewington and Jewel Haney, a brother, Robert Haney, a grandson, Gary Atchley, a great-grandchild, Zane Morris and a great-grandchild, Cheyanne Atchley.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Mr. Joe Adams. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Reford C. Turner

Mr. Reford C. Turner, age 76, husband of Betty Moore Turner of 3025 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC died Tuesday afternoon, February 6, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Turner was born in Union, SC April 9, 1930, a son of the late Noah Turner and Lula Mitchell Turner. He retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections-Spartanburg County and worked part-time with the Union Recycling Center. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Turner was a member of Glory Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Charles Turner, Jr. of Union, two sisters, Dorothy Gossett of Jonesville and Sybil Bobo of Union, a brother, Roy Dean Turner of Buffalo, one grandchild, Christine Woody and one great-grandchild, Kaylee Nicole Woody. Mr. Turner was predeceased by two sisters, O’Dell Eaves and Millie Carter and three brothers, George Turner, J.D. Turner, Sr. and Clarence Turner.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Glory Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Joe Brackins, Rev. Chris Carr, Rev. Tony Pettit and Rev. John Smith. Burial will be in Brown’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Lisa Michelle Riley Yarbrough, age 28, of 135 Alice Lane, Union, SC died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Ms. Yarbrough was born in Union, SC July 20, 1978, a daughter of Ada Williford Burgess of the home and Harold Lee Riley of 134 Alice Lane, Union. She was previously employed for Reece O’Dell at the Dario and at Marjories Resturant and also as a nurses’ assistant at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Ms. Yarbrough was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was formerly active with Monarch Fire Department Auxilliary.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a daughter, Jeri Lyann Yarbrough of the home, two sisters, Tracy R. Harris and husband Harold of Union and Teresa R. Sullivan and husband Billy Joe of N.C., a maternal grandmother, Alice Justice Williford of the home, a step-father, Robert Leroy Burgess of the home, a step-brother, Robert Alan Burgess of Hickory, NC, step-sister, Debra Lynn Dixon and husband Harold of Smyrna, SC, three nieces, Kristen and Mackenzie Harris and Joann Sullivan, three nephews, David, Joshua and Devin Sullivan, several other nieces and nephews, one special cousin, Shayna "Pony" Williford of Union and a special Aunt,Sharon "Nana" Williford of Union. Ms. Yarbrough was predeceased by maternal grandfather, William Thomas Williford, paternal grandparents, Sanders and Bessie Riley.

Grace L. Caldwell

Mrs. Grace Lee Caldwell, age 81, wife of Paul Caldwell of 200 Long Twelve St., Union, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Caldwell was born in Union, July 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Herbert Lee Sumner and Eva Spelts Sumner. She was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. Mrs. Caldwell was a devoted wife and loving mother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Frances Davis and husband Charles, Vickie Henderson and husband Ronnie all of Union; three sons: James Carroll Caldwell and wife Brenda, Larry Caldwell and wife Nancy all of Jonesville and Charles Caldwell and wife Stephanie of Union; two sisters: Edna Knox and Betty Lovelace both of Union; 16 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Caldwell was predeceased by a son, Billy Dean Caldwell, three brother and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at Crestview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ronald Humes and Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Bobby Lee Mabry
Veteran

Mr. Bobby Lee Mabry, age 73, of 214 South Church Street died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mr. Mabry was born in Union, SC August 12, 1933, a son of Mammie Lee Edwards Mabry of the home and the late Leon Lawson Mabry. He graduated Union High School, Class of 1951 and attended Clemson University. Mr. Mabry retired from Hughes Aircraft Corp. in Los Angeles, CA and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served as an Electronic Technician aboard the USS Kearsarge during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956. Mr. Mabry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union.

Surviving in addition to his mother are an uncle, Johnathan Franklin "Lum" Edwards, Sr and wife Frances O. Edwards of Union and numerous cousins.

Graveside services will be held 2:00PM Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Emory and Rev. Robert Branch.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Mrs. Ruby Lanier O’Shields, age 78, formerly of Union Blvd, widow of J.D. O’Shields died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. O’Shields was born in Whitmire, SC December 6, 1928, a daughter of the late Forest Lanier and Maggie Bell Coleman Lanier. She retired from Reeves Brothers in Woodruff, SC and was a member of the Greater Union Church.

Survivors are a son, Wesley Waldrop and wife Michelle of Union and two grandsons, Wesley Dale Waldrop and Waylon Wesley Waldrop.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 16, 2007 at Rosemont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Barbara E. "Jodie" Moss, age 57, wife of Bobby F. Moss of 115 Harris Street, Union, SC died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Regency Hospital in Greenville, SC.

Mrs. Moss was born in Greenville, SC, July 31, 1949, a daughter of the late Joseph Charles "Joe" Edwards and Mildred Hardee Edwards. She was formerly employed with Foster Park Elementary School, Oakmont of Union and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons: Michael Cody of Union and Trent Riddle and fiancee, Angie Hunter of Ft. Eustice, VA, a step-daughter, Miranda Chavez of Springfield, SC, a brother, Martin "Marty" Edwards of Union and five grandchildren: Eric and Logan Chavez, Deidra Hunter, Desiree Hunter and David Hunter. Mrs. Moss was predeceased by a brother, William "Butch" Edwards.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon.

The family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 PM tonight at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Doris Adams Jenkins, age 71, of 1817 Jonesville Hwy., Union, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a long illness.

Mrs. Jenkins was born in Union, Sept. 25, 1935 a daughter of the late Allison and Reola Mitchell Adams. She was a graduate of Union High School and Cecils Business College in Spartanburg. Mrs. Jenkins was formerly employed with Milliken Co., Monarch Plant and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter Christi Jenkins of Clinton; one brother: James Adams of Spartanburg; and one granddaughter: Chasity Nelson of Clinton.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Jerry Lawson.

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

Francis Annie Bell Lawson
Buffalo, SC

Mrs. Francis Annie Bell Gregory Lawson, age 95, of 224 South Street, Buffalo, SC, widow of Russell Giles Lawson died Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the home of her nephew in Laurens, SC.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Clinton, SC, a daughter of the late John Wesley Gregory and Bernice Garner Gregory. She retired from United Merchants-Buffalo Plant and was the oldest member of West Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Lawson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors are three nephews: James D. Gregory and wife Donna of Laurens, SC, Paul E. Gregory of Chappels, SC and Randall Liner of Buffalo and a niece, Gladys Liner of Buffalo. Mrs. Lawson was predeceased by a son, Baby Jack Lawson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at West Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 PM Tuesday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Grady Lee Lanier, Sr.
Union, SC

Mr. Grady Lee Lanier, Sr., age 81, formerly of Spruce Street, Union, SC, widower of Pauline Hicks Lanier died Monday, February 19, 2007 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mr. Lanier was born in Woodruff, SC July 31, 1925, a son of the late Dolph Lanier and Minnie Fortenburry Lanier. He retired as a Police Officer with the City of Union and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and later retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Mr. Lanier was a member of the Church of God of Union and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #75.

Surviving are a son, Grady L. Lanier, Jr. and wife Brenda of Jonesville, three granddaughters, Sandy Lanier of Jonesville, Lexa Jones of Boiling Springs and Susan Lanier of Spartanburg and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Alton Stone with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Mary S. Freeman

Mrs. Mary Jane Small Freeman, age 84, widow of Lewis Freeman of 609 Toney Rd., Union, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Freeman was born in Union, July 13, 1922, a daughter of the late Nathaniel Barber Small and Mary Emma Foster Small. She was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant and was a member of the Church of Christ in Union.

Surviving are one son: Wilson Freeman and wife Chris of Boiling Springs; two sisters: a twin, Judith Prince of Union and Frances Eldridge of Whitmire; one brother: Charles B. Small of Buffalo; three granddaughters: Emily Freeman of Boiling Springs, Tabitha Jackson and Christie Smith both of Spartanburg; one grandson: Corey Freeman and wife Jillian of Spartanburg. Mrs. Freeman was predeceased by one sister, Ruth Gregory and three brothers: Fred Small, N.B. Small and James Small.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Jesse Ham and Mr. Ken Palmer. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Donald Lee "Peck" Radford
Jonesville, SC

Mr. Donald Lee "Peck" Radford, age 62, husband of Terry Burgess Radford of 152 Gilead Hills Drive, Jonesville, SC went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 18, 2007.

Mr. Radford was born in Robson, West VA., January 17, 1945, a son of the late Charles Radford and Mary Robson Radford. He was formerly employed with Kohler & Co. and was a member of New Life Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kathy Lowe and husband Steve of Pacolet, a son, Eric Radford and wife Tracy of Inman, two brothers, Larry Radford of Bowling Green, KY and Charles Radford of Whiting, IN., six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Radford was predeceased by a sister and two brothers: Rose Pennington, Jerry Radford and Dan Radford.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2007 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Calvert and Rev. Clarence Adkins. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Ledford, Kenneth Garrett, Randy Burgess, Rick Dupree, Donald Burgess and Steve Berry. Members of Median II Sunday School Class of New Life Baptist Church asked to assemble at the church at 1:45 PM Friday to form the honorary escort.

The family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday night at New Life Baptist Church.

Bertha S. Rector

Mrs. Bertha Sprouse Rector, age 97, widow of Otis Rector, Sr, of 447 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Rector was born in Jonesville, May 6, 1909, a daughter of the late Henry L. Sprouse and Mary Sprouse . She was a member of Unity United Methodist Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are five sons: Otis Rector, Jr and wife Jean of Coushatta, LA, Bobby Rector and wife Peggy of Summerville and Union, Edward Rector and wife Delaine of Kennensville, NC, Jack Rector, Sr and wife Carol and James T. "Jimmy" Rector, Sr. and wife Susan all of Union; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, Feb. 23, 2007 at Unity United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. John Cribb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Rector’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Employees of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home are asked to sit in a group.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:50 PM Friday at Unity United Methodist Church prior to the service.

Ronnie F. Webber
Jonesville, SC

Mr. Ronnie Fontaine Webber, age 66 , widow of Betty Gregg Webber of 115 Maple Rd., Jonesville, SC, died at his home, Tues. Feb. 20, 2007 after an extended illness.

Mr. Webber was born in Jonesville, July 10, 1940 a son of the late Fontaine Wilkes Webber and Marie Fowler Webber. He was a retired construction and textile worker and attended the Jonesville Church of God.

Surviving are one daughter: Candie Webber Uldrick of the home; two sisters: Betty Raye Hargis of Charleston and Valerie Medford of Union; one granddaughter: Shelly Ann-Marie Burgess of the home. He was predeceased by one sister: Rachael Finney and four brothers: Robert Andrew "Buddy" Webber, Ben Webber, Wilkes Webber and Charles Coleman Webber.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, Feb. 23, 2007 at the Webber Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.

The family is at their respective homes.

Wayland Hoyt "Sam" Adams, Jr.
Seneca, SC

Mr. Wayland Hoyt "Sam" Adams, Jr. age 82, husband of 64 years to Virginia West Adams, of 710 Oak Shore Ct. Seneca, S.C. died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at the AnMed Health Center in Anderson after a brief illness. Mr. and Mrs. Adams was formerly of 406 Springdale Dr., Union.

Mr. Adams was born in Chattanooga, TN, January 23, 1925, a son of the late Wayland Hoyt Adams Sr. and Fannie Vanderford Adams. He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired as store manager from Sherwin Williams Paints in Union. Mr. Adams was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps having served during WWII as a tail gunner on a B-25 bomber. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served the church in various capacities. Mr. Adams was a former member of the Lions Club and the Union Elk’s Lodge.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter: Anne A. Mitros and husband Pat of Seneca; one grandson: Ashley Mitros and wife Kristi of Simpsonville and two great-granddaughter: Olivia Mitros and Cameron Mitros of Simpsonville. Mr. Adams was predeceased by three sisters: Frances A. Kirby, Lucille A. Johns and Laura A. Sullivan.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Frank Lybrand and Rev. Gary Byrd.

The following are asked to assemble at the graveside at 10:45 AM Saturday to form the honorary escort: Charlie Vaughan, Dan Vaughan, Melvin Timmons, Rick Morris, Don Moore, Ted Purvis, Ralph Greer, Jack Kirby, Herbert West, Eric Walker, Marshall Caldwell and Marvin Ford.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Dennis D. Welch, age 58, husband of Pam Seymore Welch of 199 Zephyr Rd., Union, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at the Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg.

Mr. Welch was born, Sept. 4, 1948 in Colorado Springs, CO, a son of the late Herbert E. Welch and Lola Griffin and a step-son of Ruth Welch of Asheville, NC. He was a retired electrician and had previously been employed at the Tyger River Corrections Facility. Mr. Welch was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation Medals. Mr. Welch was also retired from the South Carolina National Guard, Whitmire Unit. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and step-mother are three sons: Michael Welch of Waynesboro, VA, John Welch of Spartanburg and Tim Welch of Oregon; one sister: Diane M. Lawrence of Ohio and a grandson: Garrick Welch.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 Pm Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Austin Bennett and Rev. Steve Young. Burial will be in Whitmire Cemetery with Full National Guard Honors.

The family will receive friends 7:00 until 9:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
