Mrs. Mary Odom Hovis, age 78 of 285 Haney Cemetery Rd., Union, SC, widow of William L. Hovis, Sr died Monday, October 1, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Hovis was born in Kings Mt., NC February 28, 1929, a daughter of the late Marvin W. Odom and Mary Morrow Odom. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors are a daughter, Brenda Alford of Rock Hill; a son, William L. Hovis, Jr of Union; three sisters: Marnita Mason of Indiana, Marvis Hoggatt of Florida and Marion Crall of Texas; a brother, Mark Odom of Tennessee; four grandchildren: Kevin Alford of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Krystal McKenzie and Jerry Hovis both of Rock Hill and Sierra Hovis of Union and four great-grandchildren: Lauren Alford and Alexis Alford both of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Sara McKenzie and Brittany Alford both of Rock Hill.

No services are planned at this time.

Mr. Grady Bruce Gregory, age 62 of 3439 Lockhart Hwy, Union, SC, widower of Docia Ann Stewart Gregory died Monday, October 1, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gregory was born in Union, SC May 30, 1945, a son of the late Allen Gregory and Mammie Lou Northernton Gregory. He was a retired self employed housing contractor and was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons: Jimmy Gregory and wife Rhonda and Ronnie Gregory and wife Nichole; a sister, Elsie Brewington Eller; a daughter-in-law, April Holt Gregory all of Union; eight grandchildren: Brittany Gregory, Marissa Gregory, Dustan Gregory, Nathan Gregory, Tyler Gregory, Colby Gregory, Brett Gregory and Owen Gregory. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by a son, Dennis Gregory and a brother, Bob Gregory.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Todd Brewington, Robbie Stewart, Jimmy Williams, Gene Adams, David Baldwin and William Erwin.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Elizabeth A. Lunsford, age 79 widow of James Lunsford of 133 Ben Black Road Union, SC. died Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Lunsford was born in Santuc SC. December 14, 1927, a daughter of the late Nim Austin and Arzie Peafuff Austin. She was retired from Milliken and Company- Midway Plant and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Survivors are two daughters: Pat Cantrell and husband Jim of Union, and Joyce Bradford and husband, Curt of Charleston, SC.; two sisters: Minnie Knox and Gladys Henderson; two brothers: Doug Austin and Fant Austin all of Union; grandchildren: Christina and Mike Earl, Jason and Renee Bradford, Kim and Jason Inabinet, Heather and Jimmy Tyson; six great- grandchildren: Harrison, Anna, Jake, Jimmy, Emma, and Mia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 5, 2007 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Aulbrey Calvert and Rev. Curt Bradford. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Devon Henderson, Dennis Henderson, Kendall Austin, Donnie Puckett, Rev. Joey Shetley, and Joel Candler.

Mrs. Violet Quinn Bailey, age 76, wife of Norman L. Bailey of 111 Highland Drive, Union, SC died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the home of her son, Jackie L. Cannon.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Buffalo, SC March 7, 1931, a daughter of the late William

C. Quinn and Addie Dyer Quinn. She retired from Milliken & Co - Midway Finishing and was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons: Lindsey Cannon and wife Debra and Jackie L. Cannon and fiancee Shirley Dorsey all of Union; two brothers: Roy Quinn and Benny Quinn both of Union and Jeffery Scott "Buddy" Quinn of New Bern, NC; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bailey was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Q. Stephenson and Ruby Nell Q. Davis.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Jerry Lawson and Rev. Ricky Cook.

Active pallbearers will be Dennis Quinn, Denny Quinn, William Quinn, Danny Cannon, Jeff Cannon and Eddie Gilbert.

Larry Knox

Mr. Harold Larry Knox, age 57, husband of Patricia Lynn Boulware Knox of 347 Lee Road, Jonesville, SC died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.

Mr. Knox was born in Clinton, SC December 22, 1949, a son of the late Harold Knox and Dorothy Kelley Knox. He was a graduate of Union High School and previously worked with Wellington Leisure Products in Jonesville. He was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Lisa Haney and husband Terry of Buffalo, Lorie McAbee of the home and Leslie McAbee and husband Jonathan of Buffalo; a sister, Barbara Green of Roebuck; two brothers: John Knox of Chester and Sonny Knox of Boiling Springs and seven grandchildren: Jonathan McAbee, Chase Knox, Nate McAbee, Autumn "Au-Au" McAbee, Matt Haney, Chelsea Haney and Claire Haney.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Ted Hodges and Dr. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Buck Crane, Neal Crane, David Beck, Donald Southerland, Brian Castle and Chris Castle. The following are asked to assemble at the church at 2:45 PM to form the Honorary Escort: Jason Millwood, Donnie Sumner and Amos Boulware.

Mrs. Mildred Leonhardt Hawkins, age 77, widow of Horace E. Hawkins died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Union, SC February 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Heyward Leonhardt and Aileen Lawson Leonhardt. She was a member of Putman Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Wallace Thomson Hospital and O’Dell’s Cafe.

Survivors are two sons: Stan Hawkins and wife Betty J. and David L. Hawkins and wife Brenda all of Union; two grandchildren: Brett Hawkins and Jill Sanders and one great-grandchild, Joey Chase Sanders. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Wayne Hawkins and two brothers: Bobby Leonhardt and Frank Leonhardt.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2007 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Ted Hodges and Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will remain at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home where those desiring may pay their respects Thursday between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 PM.

The family will receive friends 1:30-3:00 PM Friday at Putman Baptist Church prior to the service.

Alice Marie DeHart Sanders

Mrs. Alice Marie DeHart Sanders, age 65 of 2017 Berry Farm Road, Union, SC and 1819 Sago Palm Street, Palm Bay, FL, widow of Bobby Lee Sanders died at her home in Palm Bay on October 4, 2007.

Marie was the daughter of the late Louie Jacob DeHart, Sr. and Alberta Traylor DeHart. She was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Allyson Marie; brother Richard Melvin DeHart and a sister, Gwendolyn DeHart Padgett.

Marie is survived by her sons, David Nathaniel Sanders and Kevin Brice Sanders and wife Judy; three grandchildren: Tyler, Dominic and Morgan; sisters LeeOna Blair and Sara Jane Fowler; brothers Louie "Mac" DeHart, Jr., John Wayne DeHart and William "Billy" DeHart.

A Memorial Service will be held at Carlisle United Methodist Church, Highway 215, Carlisle at 12 O’clock Noon on Saturday, October 13, 2007. Visitation immediately following the service. A private graveside service will take place at a later time.

Mrs. Brenda Lee Black Belue, age 64, wife of Curtis D. Belue of 128 South Main Street, Lockhart, SC died Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Belue was born in Union, SC July 11, 1943, a daughter of Mildred "Mit" Cabaniss Black of Lockhart and the late Carl Jeff Black. She graduated Lockhart High School, retired from Conso Products Company and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter, Judy Turner and husband Gary; a son, Kenneth "Bo" Belue; a sister, Sue B. Deal and husband Gary all of Lockhart; two grandchildren: Jeffrey Turner and Brandon Turner and a special "adopted" daughter, Rhonda Young Gibson. Mrs. Belue was predeceased by a grandson, Travis Turner.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ben Hill, Rev. Brian Bishop and Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

David Blaine Bogan
Buffalo, SC

Mr. David Blaine Bogan, age 80, husband of Reba Gregory Bogan of 3007 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, SC died Friday, October 12, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bogan was born in West Springs, SC May 23, 1927, a son of the late Thurston Bogan and Bertie Bogan Bogan. He was a 1948 graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken & Co-Midway Plant. Mr. Bogan was a Veteran of the US Marine Corp having served in World War II and was an active member of Buffalo United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Chancel Choir, the Men’s Choir and a former member of the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. He was also a former member of the Union County Board of Education. Mr. Bogan was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-six years are two daughters: Lynn B. McJunkin of Lancaster and Susan B. Cunningham of Newberry; six grandchildren: Elijah McJunkin, Laura Cunningham, Aubrey McJunkin, Julia McJunkin, David Cunningham and Emily Cunningham and one great grandson, Luke McJunkin. Mr. Bogan was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Kevin Dalton and Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will be in Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Nancy Puckett, age 51, wife of Dean Puckett of 630 Old Buncombe Road, Union, SC died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Puckett was born in Union County, September 23, 1956, a daughter of Mary Chaney Groves of Union and the late Donald E. Shetley, Sr. Her faith was in the Lord Jesus Christ and she attended Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church. Nancy was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, nannny and a "cancer survivor" in heaven.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are two children: Sheila Gallman and husband Dean of Union and Dennis Bevis, Jr and wife Tracy of Buffalo; four grandchildren: Amber Gallman, Tiffani Gallman, Trey Bevis and Reid Bevis; one step-grandson, Michael Conejo all of Union; two brothers: Mark Shetley and Gene Shetley and a special aunt, Ferol Haney all of Buffalo.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Carroll Caldwell and Rev. Lynn Ford. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Patricia Satterfield DesChamps, age 72 of 801 Musgrove Street, Clinton, SC died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton.

Mrs. DesChamps was born in Union, SC October 20, 1934, a daughter of the late William Wilson Satterfield, Jr and Grace Waldrop Satterfield. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and received her Master Degree from Converse College; was a member of Dela Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union where she was an Elder and formerly served as Clerk of Sessions. Mrs. DesChamps was also a member of the Union Arts Council and Friends of the Library.

Surviving are three daughters: Leah DesChamps Leonhardt and husband Ken of Union, Yvette DesChamps Parrish and husband Lowell of Rutherfordton, NC and Michelle DesChamps Corson and husband Mark of Maryville, MO; six grandchildren: Jordan Rhea Leonhardt, Andrew Rhys Parrish, Stefan Patrick Leonhardt, Morgan Michelle Parrish, Amsley Taylor Corson and Ashton Elyse Corson and a loving companion Hershey.

A memorial service will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Robert Alexander.

Mr. Paul Hawkins, age 68, husband of Shirley McCall Hawkins of 122 Union Rd., Lockhart, SC died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hawkins was born in Lockhart, SC May 14, 1939, a son of the late Colie Hawkins and Blanche Childers Hawkins. He retired from Wellington Ind., Jonesville and was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Hawkins was a former member of the S.C. National Guards.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Tammy Austin and husband Clyde of Lockhart; two grandchildren: Tiffany Austin of Lockhart and Kim Austin of Jonesville and one great-grandchild, Phoebe Harkins of Jonesville, two nephews: Tommy Haney and Jimmy Haney and several nieces. Mr. Hawkins was predeceased by a daughter, Laura Ann Hawkins and a sister, Earline Haney.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Bishop and Rev. Paul Childers.

William Eddie O’Dell
Buffalo, S.C.

Mr. William Eddie O’Dell, age 65, husband of Brenda Youngblood O’Dell of 204 Riley Rd., Buffalo, died Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. O’Dell was born in Jonesville, June 26, 1942, a son of the late William Henry and Winnie Gertrude Harvey O’Dell. He was retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant and was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Mr. O’Dell was also a member of the Prudence Masonic Lodge in Jonesville and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Union Unit.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: five daughters: Dale Groves and husband Jeff of Buffalo, Patty Canupp of Union, Susan Nations of Putman, Patricia Housand and husband Kevin of Moncks Corner, and Francine Anderson of Buffalo; six sons: Eddie Wayne O’Dell and wife Lynn of Boiling Springs, Marvin Greer of Buffalo, Tommy O’Dell of Pacolet, David Randall O’Dell and wife Erika of Clarksville, TN, Donald Eugene O’Dell of Buffalo and Troy Champion and wife Carla of Buffalo; one brother; Ronnie O’Dell and wife Cathy of Jonesville; one sister: Doris Hagan of Spartanburg; 27 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. O’Dell was predeceased by his first wife Martha Bell O’Dell, a daughter: Beth Black, a sister: Helen Tisdale, a brother: Bobby O’Dell, two grandchildren: Melody Black and Donise Church.

A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Randy Pettit and Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be at Putman Baptist Church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Frances Alexander Lane

Mrs. Frances Alexander Lane, age 85 of 108 Justin Street, Warrenville, SC, widow of Ernest C. Lane died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Aiken Regional Medical Center, Aiken SC.

Mrs. Lane was born in Chester County, SC January 25, 1922, a daughter of the late Wallace T. Alexander and Jessie Fowler Alexander. She was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and retired from the State Hospital in Columbia as a nurses’ aid. Mrs. Lane was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed her family.

Survivors are two daughters: Ernestine Reep of Morganton, NC and Diane Norton of Columbia; a son, Larry A. Lane of Warrenville, SC; a sister, Rosanell Adams; two brothers: Carroll Alexander and Tom Alexander all of Union; seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lane was predeceased by a sister, Madlyn Adams and a brother, Alvin Alexander.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Mr. Tom Alexander and Mr. Aubrey Adams. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Woodrow Wages
Buffalo, SC

Mr. Thomas Woodrow Wages, age 94, husband of Ruth Lawson Wages of 1005 Main Street, Buffalo, SC died Monday, October 15, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Wages was born in Leeds, SC August 20, 1913, a son of the late John Edward Wages and Ada Elizabeth Nance Wages. He retired from United Merchants- Union Mill after over forty years of service. Mr. Wages was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II, August 5, 1942-November 1, 1945. He served overseas in the European African Middle Eastern Theater III from 1943-1945. Mr. Wages was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Honorable Discharge as Technician Third Grade, 3455th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Co. He was a member of the American Legion Post 87, Buffalo, SC. Mr. Wages was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Wages was predeceased by two sisters and eight brothers: Edith Miller and Cora Elizabeth Johnson, Ernest Earl Wages, Clyde L. Wages, Eugene Wages, Lawrence E. Wages, James B. Wages, Cole B. Wages, Richard O. Wages and Harold D. Wages.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, October 19, 2007 at S.R. Hoclombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Tim Anderson and Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Matrel O’Shields Stribling, age 90, wife of Robert Frank "Bob" Stribling, formerly a resident of the Putman Community Union, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Autumn Care of Saluda.

Mrs. Stribling was born in Union, SC, December 6, 1916, a daughter of the late Webster "Webb" O’Shields and Helen Smith O’Shields. She retired as an assistant librarian at Union Carnegie Library. Mrs. Stribling was a member of Putman Baptist Church where she served as a former Sunday School Teacher for the Adult Ladies Class and the Junior Class, WMU President, a Sunbeam Leader, a member of the Choir and was active in individual ministry to the shut-ins.

Mrs. Stribling was a loving wife of 69 years, married on October 22, 1938, and a devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Helen McInnis and husband Dan of Alcolu, SC and Connie Kuykendall and husband Terry of Columbus, NC; a sister, Hazel Babb and husband Bill of Buffalo; eight grandsons and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stribling was predeceased by a son , Larry Stribling, and three brothers: Horace O’Shields, Emmette O’Shields and Ryan O’Shields.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dennis Sherbert, Walker Smith, Ricky Scott, Donald Babb, Jay Sanders and Jimmy Sanders.

The family will receive friends immediately following the committal service in the church Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Evelyn Glance Starnes, age 80 of 643 South Center Street, Spartanburg, SC, widow of Linzie Phillip Starnes died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Starnes was born in Chester County, SC June 4, 1927, a daughter of the late John Robert Glance and Sula Farr Glance. She was a graduate of Sharon High School and was of the Presbyterian Faith. Mrs. Starnes was formerly of Charlotte, NC.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Ruth Starnes of Alexandria, Va; two sons: Rodney Starnes of Spartanburg and Robert Phillip Starnes of Greensboro, NC; five sisters: Jeanette Johnson of Lockhart, Agnes Wood and Polly Slagle both of Greensboro, NC, Elsie Ward of Southern Pine, NC and Yolette Kington of Highpoint, NC and two grandchildren. Mrs. Starnes was predeceased by a brother Charles Glance.

The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 PM Sunday, October 21, 2007 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Grant was born in Union, SC, July 29, 1960 a son of Mary Louis Austin Grant of the home and the late Arnold Morris Grant. He was a self employed construction worker.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers: Bill Ray Grant and wife Patricia of Woodruff and Joseph Benji Grant of the home, a niece, Chastity Grant and a nephew, Kevin Grant.

Mrs. Hyatt was born in Union County, SC July 7, 1930, a daughter of the late Ben H. Gist and Myrtle Lawson Gist. She was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Business College. Mrs. Hyatt retired from the Department of Social Services and was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and a member of Freida Fuller Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Lu Anne Hyatt Johnson of Seneca, SC; three sisters: Carrie Louise Gregory of Putman Community, Fannie Ruth Hyatt and Mildred G. Bogan both of West Springs Community. Mrs. Hyatt was predeceased by a daughter, Connie Hyatt and a sister, Agnes G. Adams.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, October 26, 2007 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Gary Peterson and Rev. Doug Gilliland. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lillian Brank Allen, age 83, of 4724 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy, Union, SC, widow of Hovey Allen died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Allen was born in Rock Hill, SC December 5, 1923, a daughter of the late Ransom L. Brank and Idella Smith Brank. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School; a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and served as Music Director for Vacation Bible School for many years and was a member of the Lockhart Senior Citizens. Mrs. Allen was a former President of Lockhart School PTA.

Surviving are two daughters: Cathy Hyatt and husband Phil of Spartanburg and Nan Ruppe and husband Alan of Gaffney; a sister, Margaret Steen of Rock Hill; three grandchildren: Tracy Vanderford of Union, Jena Turner and husband Cody of Chesnee and Colton Cabaniss of Gaffney and two great-grandchildren: Sydnie Vanderford and Carlee Turner. Mrs. Allen was predeceased by a total of nine brothers and sisters.

Mr. James M. Crawford, age 87, husband of Marie Bayne Mosko Crawford, of 128 Jason Court, Fort Mill, SC, died Friday, October 26, 2007 at the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Mr. Crawford was born in Union, October 16, 1920 a son of the late Benjamin and Molly Frazier Crawford. He was a graduate of Union High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII in the European Theater. Mr. Crawford was retired from Ingersol-Rand and had previously work with Milliken Co., Lockhart Plant for 26 years. He was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church where he previously served as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer and was on the Board of Deacons for 35 years having Chaired several terms. Mr. Crawford was a man of strong faith who sought to be obedient to God. He was an avid reader who’s favorite book was the Bible. Mr. Crawford was first married to the late Zanie Bayne Crawford and was the last surviving member of nine children in his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two loving grandchildren, 5 loving great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 29, 2007, at the Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Paul Childers, Rev. Tony Adams, and Mr. Clay Wirt.

Burial will be in Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs Williford was born in Union, SC July 16, 1922, a daughter of the late Milas Justice and Mary Franklin Justice. She retired from Conso Products and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are two sons: Tommy Williford and wife Sharon of Union and Larry Williford of Newberry; a daughter, Ada W. Burgess and husband Leroy of the home; a brother, Burton Justice of Buffalo; five sisters: Alma Justice, Kathleen J. Ivey, Jessie McClure, Bernice Falls and Diane Jennings all of Union; five granddaughters: Tracy Riley Harris and husband Harold, Shayna A. Williford, April Wright all of Union, Teresa Riley Sullivan and husband Billy Joe and Mekka W. Jones and husband Jeremy all of North Carolina; two grandsons: W.T. Williford and wife Kayla of Union and Bobby Williford and wife Gina of Jonesville; eleven great-grandchildren: Kristen and MacKenzie Harris, Gracie and Layla Williford, Shala Mitchell, Lyann Yarbrough, Foster Jones, David, Jo Ann, Josh and Devin Sullivan. Mrs. Williford was predeceased by three sisters: Viola J. Williams, Dora J. Boyles and Willie Justice and three brothers, Frank, Wylie and Bryant Justice and a special granddaughter, Lisa Michelle Riley.

Mrs. Eveline West Bright, wife of Vernon H. Bright of 1823 Starbrook Dr., Charlotte, died Friday, October 26, 2007 at the Carolina Medical Center.

Mrs. Bright was born in Buffalo, SC, a daughter of the late Lewis E. And Mattie Lawson West of the Putman Community. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired as an Interior Designer with Mecklenburg Furniture Shop in Charlotte. Mrs. Bright was a member of the Camelettes and the Minikins of the Shriners and a member of the Interior Designer Society.

She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son: Tim Bright of Charlotte; a twin sister: Lorine Vinson of Manning, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bright was predeceased by a son, Vernon H. Bright, Jr. and a brother, Grady West.

Mrs. Vaughan was born in Union, May 23, 1922 a daughter of the late James Thaddie Palmer and Mary Vaughan Palmer. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son: Harold Kenneth Vaughan of Union; one brother: J.T. Palmer, Jr. and wife Ethel of Union; two grandchildren: Anitra Smith and husband Kevin of Buffalo and Harold Christopher Vaughan of Union; two great-grandchildren: Brandon Davis and Cody Vaughan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Vaughan was predeceased by two sisters: Lillie Ruth Gibson and Rhoda Nell Bentley; four brothers: Vaughan Palmer, Clyde Palmer, Frank Palmer and Ralph Palmer.

Miss Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Cureton, age 91 died Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, SC.

Miss Cureton was born in Union, SC August 6, 1916, a daughter of the late Everard Belton Cureton and Hattie Belle McDow Cureton. She was a graduate of Union High School and later retired as office manager of Liberty Life Insurance Company in Union after forty-four years of service. Miss Cureton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union and was a member of the Children’s Confederacy and the Union County Historical Foundation. Miss Cureton had resided at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton since 1990.

Surviving are three brothers: T.C. "Tommy" Cureton and wife Ethel of Columbia, F.M.

"Frank" Cureton and wife Susan of Charlotte and L.M. "Mack" Cureton and wife June C. of Spartanburg and fourteen nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will beheld 10:30 AM Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Robert Alexander.

Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Parlor immediately following the graveside service.

Mrs. Autince Stevens West, age 89, wife of H .J. West of 119 Hillcrest Drive, Union, SC died Wednesday October 31, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. West was born in Spartanburg County, SC October 1, 1918, a daughter of the late Robert Stevens and Daisy Groce Stevens. She retired from United Merchants- Buffalo Plant and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where she was a member of Esther Scarborough Sunday Class; a former member of the WMU; former Director of the Primary Department and a former Leader of the Young at Heart Group. Mrs. West was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Manuel Dean West and wife Patricia of Port St. Lucie, FL; two grandsons: Troy West of Temple Terrace, FL and Todd West of Summerville, SC; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, November 2, 2007 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Troy West, Todd West, Joe Stevens, Gerald Gregory, Robert Turner and Oneal Turner.
