Jesse E. Raye Jr.
Union, S.C.

Mr. Jesse E. Raye Jr., age 80, died Friday, August 31, 2007 at Oakmont Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Mr. Raye was born in Chester, SC, December 30, 1926 a son of the late Jesse E. Raye, Sr. And Thelma Millwood Martin. He was retired from the Savannah River Nuclear Plant and was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. Mr. Raye was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are five daughters: Brenda Raye Burton and husband Ronnie, Linda Raye Howell and Jane Raye Reyner all of Greenville, Happy Raye Parker and husband Glenn of Aiken and Reesa Raye Driver and husband Andy of North Augusta; two brothers: Jack Raye of Buffalo and Billy Raye of Myrtle Beach; 4 grandchildren: Chris Sloan, Dana Malone, Heather Grant and Heidi Collins and 7 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, September 3, 2007, at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Branch.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

Florence Couch Davis
Union, SC

Mrs. Florence Couch Davis, age 83, widow of Jospeh E. Davis died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Davis was born in Spartanburg, SC September 29, 1923, a daughter of the late Will Couch and Winnie Perry Couch. She graduated Union High School and retired from Wilburn’s Department Store. Mrs. Davis was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Survivors are two daughters: Jo Ann Snyder Segars and husband Ray of Greenville and Susie Gruver and husband Bryan of Union; a sister, Marie Hawkins of Union; three grandchildren: Veronica Snyder of Greenville, Jank Gruver of Union and Bryan Scott Gruver of Miami Beach, FL; a great-grandson, Joseph Brett Gruver of Union and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 7, 2007 at Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Benny Green.

Visitation will be held immediately following the services at the graveside.

Billy R. Kimbro
Carlisle, SC

Mr. Billy R. Kimbro, age 73, husband of Frances Crumley Kimbro of 319 Oakdale Avenue, Carlisle, SC died Friday, September 7, 2007 after a brief struggle with cancer.

Mr. Kimbro was born in Sugar Hill, Georgia, May 17, 1934, a son of the late John Franklin Kimbro and Rudie D. Holland Kimbro. He retired from Norfolk Southern after twenty plus years of service, was of the Baptist faith and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Kimbro was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way, Employee Lodge #1618 and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a proud and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Judy Yount and husband Ronnie of Union and Robin Cremeans and husband John of Buffalo; seven grandchildren: Steven Yount and wife Tyger of Union, Melissa Lane and fiancee Jonathan Hancock of Spartanburg, Vicki Glenn of Buford, Ga, Deborah Henderson of Jonesville, John G. Cremeans of Raleigh, NC, Allen Watts and Malachi Watts both of Buffalo; six great-grandchildren: Lillie Elizabeth Hancock of Spartanburg, Blaine Gonzalez of Jonesville, Sarah Glenn and Sam Glenn both of Buford, GA, Tucker Henderson of Jonesville and Hannah Cremeans of Raleigh, NC; a special niece, Melodi Gault of Union and also a number of other nieces and nephews and a special brother-in-law, Charles Crumley.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 9, 2007 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Smith and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be John G. Cremeans, Mike Glenn, Tim Henderson, Dennis Doster, Freddie Gault, Kenny Pugh, Ray Paige, David Crumley, Jon Nick Gault and Jacob Gault.

Retired Norfold Southern Railroad Employees are asked to assemble at the chapel at 1:45 PM Sunday to form the Honorary Escort.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Hettie Kennedy Fowler
Union, SC

Henrietta "Hettie" Brandon Kennedy Fowler, age 91, passed away at home on East Main Street on September 12, 2007. She was the widow of Norris "Buddy" Rogers Fowler, Sr. They were the owners of Fowken Farm. She was born in Union County to the late Barham Foster Kennedy and Henrietta Louise Foster Kennedy.

Mrs. Fowler was a graduate of Union High School and Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church. Among her many contributions to the church, she was a Sunday school teacher, circle leader, and past president of the women of the church. She also founded the church library. She was a charter member of the Junior Charity League, the Friday Book Club and the Union Cotillion Club. She was also very active with the Girl Scouts serving as a leader for many years. She was always extremely proud that her family donated the land for Foster Park.

Mrs. Fowler is survived by two daughters Henrietta "Hettie" Fowler Hervey and husband John of Alexandria, VA, and Nancy Fowler Willis and husband Clarence of Herndon, VA, and a son, Norris Rogers Fowler, Jr, and wife Ann of Jonesville, SC. She is survived by six grandchildren, James Hervey and Elizabeth Hervey of Atlanta, GA, Lucy Fowler Morris and husband Brad of Jonesville, Rogers Fowler of Jonesville, Ramsey Fowler of Union, and Sallie Willis of Herndon, VA. She has one great granddaughter, Abby Hervey, of Dale, IN. She also is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fowler was also predeceased by her sister, Mary Louise Kennedy Berry.

The family will receive visitors at the home, 523 East Main Street, on Friday, September 14, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Services will be held Saturday, September 15, at 11:00 at the First Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at the Fair Forest Cemetery on Cedar Grove Road in Jonesville. The following will serve as pallbearers: Lloyd Sutherland, William Jeter, Arnold Price, Scott Fant, David Berry,III, and Foster Kennedy. Mrs. Fowler’s loving caregivers are asked to sit as a group. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 672, Union, SC 29379 or to Hospice Care of South Carolina, Union Unit, 408 N. Wilma Jean Wright
Gaffney, SC

Mrs. Wilma Jean Wright, age 57, wife of Benny Wright of 223 Darby Road, Gaffney, SC died Friday, September 14, 2007.

Mrs. Wright was born in Union, SC November 29, 1949, a daughter of the late Loyd Haney and Ethel Bledsoe Haney. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Rhonda Reynolds and husband Alan; a son, Jeff Wright and wife Debbie all of Gaffney; two sisters: Lucy Stroud and husband Charles of Statesville, NC and Willie Bergstrom of Gaffney; four grandchildren: Greg Anthony, Jessica Wright, Jeffrey Wright, Jr and Candice Wright and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wright was predeceased by a daughter, Angela Wright and a son Benny Wright, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel in Union, SC. Burial will be in the Sardis Methodist Church Cemetery in Gaffney, SC.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Tuesday in chapel prior to the service.

James Coker Winburn
Union, SC

Mr. James Coker Winburn, age 72, husband of Patricia Berry Winburn of 108 Douglas Heights, Union, SC died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Winburn was born in Hartsville, SC August 17, 1935, a son of the late John Cordy Winburn and Henrietta Roscoe Winburn. He retired from Sonoco Products and was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. Mr. Winburn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law and best friend to his wife.

Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty years are a daughter, Audrey Lancaster and husband Tommy of Buffalo; a son, Kirk Winburn and wife Kathy of Rock Hill, SC; three sisters: Meta Rae Oliver and husband Lawrence and Irene Howle all of Santee, SC and Eilene Tyner of Hartsville, SC; a brother, James C. Winburn and wife Ellie of Bethune, SC; two sisters-in-law: Jo Ann Winburn and Doris Winburn both of Hartsville, SC; two grandchildren: Kristen Winburn and Kara Winburn both of Rock Hill and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Winburn was predeceased by two brothers: James R. Winburn and William Raeford Winburn; two sisters: Pearl Mae King and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 17, 2007 at Augsburg Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Carroll Robinson. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry, SC.

Active pallbearers will be Richard Stanley Humphries, Wesley Brumbles, David Clayton, Travis Winburn, Charles Craig and Darryl Palmer.

Visitation will be held 6:00-7:30 PM Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy Lambright Smoots
Union, SC

Mrs. Dorothy Lambright Smoots, age 89, of Oakmont of Union died Sunday, September 16, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Smoots was born in Union, SC June 19, 1918, a daughter of the late Daniel Thomas Lambright, Sr and Irene Davis Lambright. She graduated Union High School and attended Cecile’s Business College. Mrs. Smoots retired from South Carolina Employment Security Commission and was later employed with H.I.P. which was founded in Union by Dr. Katherine Jeter. She volunteered with the Union County Republican Party where several times she was named Volunteer of the Year. Mrs. Smoots also was a volunteer with the Union County Mental Health Association and the S.C. State Mental Health Association. She a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors are two nephews: Beverly C. Russell of Roebuck and Thomas D. Lambright of Gaffney and a niece, Nancy Lambright Massey of Woodstock, Ga. Mrs. Smoots was predeceased by three sisters: Ina L. Richardson, Gladys L. Russell and Lorena "Ren" Lambright; a brother, Daniel T. Lambright, Jr; a niece, Lula Dianne Russell and a nephew, Ralph T. Richardson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Gary Byrd. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Willie Nell "Punk" Coleman Ponder, age 78 of 624 Bailey Road, Union, SC, widow of Max F. Ponder died Monday, September 17, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Ponder was born in Buffalo, SC September 15, 1929, a daughter of the late Willie Coleman and Gertrude Elrod Coleman. She retired from Milliken & Co-Monarch Plant, Oakmont of Union and was previously employed as cashier at Buffalo Seafood House. Mrs. Ponder was of the Methodist Faith.

Survivors are a daughter, Nancy Evans and husband Phil of Mesquite, TX; three sons: Maxie Ponder and wife Darnell, and Eddie Wages and Fiancée Bonnie all of Buffalo and Mark Ponder of Spartanburg; a sister, Brenda C. Wells and husband Stanley of Buffalo; two brothers: Harold Coleman and wife Linda of Buffalo and Ronald Coleman and wife Ann of Wellford; seven grandchildren and seven great-gandchildren. Mrs. Ponder was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Ponder, a daughter Lisa Lawson, two brothers: Dan Coleman and Mac Coleman and two sisters: Helen Kelly and Bobby Justice.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb.

The family is at the home of her sister, Brenda and Stanley Wells, 2124 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo where they will receive friends and will also receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Ruby Garner Owings
Union, SC

Mrs. Ruby Garner Owings, age 94 of 210 E. Hillcrest Avenue, Union, SC died Monday, September 17, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Owings was born in Campobello, SC March 9, 1913, a daughter of the late R.F. Garner and Eliza Bailey Garner. She was a member of Duncan Acres Methodist Church where she was a member of Mary Lybrand Sunday School Class and was very active in the church services as long as her health permitted particularly the Bereavement Committee and the Card Ministry. Mrs. Owings retired from United Merchants- Union Buffalo Plants.

Surviviors are a son, Ned Owings of the home; a special niece, Frances Owings May of Columbia and three other nieces: Betty Jones, Ruth Wolfe both of Landrum and Hazel Brown of Inman; two nephews: Horace Owings of Union and Hope Garner of Columbia; a special friend, Christine Inman of Union and her loyal Pug companion, Lord Ashley of the home. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of fourteen children.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Bailey and Rev. Bob Vincent. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Horace Owings, Ralph Owings, Robin Owings, Phillip Owings, Hope Garner, Lewis Horne, Aubrey Garner and Jimbo Whitney.

Mr. Phillip Lowell Strong, Jr., age 51 husband of Mary Ellen Lee Strong of 109 Smith Dr., Union, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Strong was born in Chicago, IL, October 25, 1955 a son of the late Phillip Lowell Strong, Sr. and Guynell Inman Strong. He was previously employed with Ferguson Chevrolet of Union as a mechanic and was also a mason.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter: Sherry Clark and husband Richard of Clinton; one son: Phillip L. Strong, III and wife Stephanie of Lockhart, one sister Lucy Wentz and husband Merritt of Union; two brothers: Kenneth Strong and wife Donna of Gaffney and Albert Strong of Union; five grandchildren: Mary Francis Strong, Nichols David Strong, Brittany Jane Wright, Trey Clark and Nathaniel Clark.

Memorial services will be held 7:00 PM tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Hayden Ray Elder, infant son of Jeffery and Lori Eaves Elder of 203 Griffin Rd., Pomeria, SC went home to be with Jesus Sunday, September 16, 2007.

Hayden was born at Newberry Hospital, Sunday, September 16, 2007. Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandparents, Dean and Janet Brown of Newberry; paternal grandparents, Ray and Norma Elder of Ridgeland; maternal great-grandparents, Paul and Vivian Jolly of Union; maternal great-grandmother, Grace Eaves of Union; maternal great-grandmother, Carolyn Brown of Newberry and paternal great-grandfather, Norman Powell.

Graveside services were held 4:00 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Shep Bevis.

Mrs. Louise Patton Cool, age 87 of Laurens, SC, widow of Dan Cool died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at National Health Care of Laurens after a brief illness.

Mrs. Cool was born in Morganton, NC, August 21, 1920, a daughter of the late John C. Patton and Marie Branch Mull Hardin. She retired from United Merchants-Buffalo Plant and the Union Daily Times after thirty years of service. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church of Kinards, SC and also a member of the Red Hat Club of Laurens Memorial Home. Mrs. Cool was one of sixteen children.

Survivors are a daughter, Freeda Moats Burnett of Kinards, SC; three sons: Jerry J. Cool of Summerfield, Fl, John H. Cool of McDonough, Ga and Donnie W. Cool of Summerville, SC; four sisters: Lois Scott of Union, Ann Costner of Morganton, NC, Ethel Smith of Valdese, NC and Lena Patrum of Morganton, NC; two brothers: Jack Patton and Sam Patton both of Morganton, NC; a special sister-in-law, Ruth Patton of Morganton, NC; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cool was predeceased by a daughter, Mavis Melissa Epting, seven brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Fairview Baptist Church in Kinards, SC conducted by Rev. Mark Bernshausen. Burial will be in Pinelawn Cemetery in Clinton, SC.

Mrs. Betty Cookson Tice, age 75, wife of Carl Dean Tice of 117 S. 6th Street, Lockhart, SC died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. after a brief illness.

Mrs. Tice was born in Union, SC August 20, 1932, a daughter of the late David Frank Cookson and Hazel Davis Cookson. She was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband of fifty years are two daughters: Denise T. Warren and husband Alan of Lockhart and Carla T. Garner and husband Layton of Union; three sisters: Mae Fowler and husband Sonny of Union and Gayle Turner and Faye Dill Miller and husband Berry Lee of all of Lockhart; a brother, Bud Cookson and wife Carol of Union; three grandchildren: Jay Garner and wife Anna of Spartanburg, Melanie Warren and Jacob Warren both of Lockhart; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and many special friends and neighbors. Mrs. Tice was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers: Ruth Dill, Irene Rash, Lavada Gaston, James F. Dill and Tab Dill.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Bishop and Rev. Ben Hill. Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery.

Ralph M. "Doc" Austin, Sr.

Mr. Ralph M. Austin, Sr. "Doc", age 81, of 250 Old English Rd, Union, SC, widower of Mildred Petty Austin, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at his home after several months of declining health.

Mr. Austin was born in Union, May 25, 1926 a son of the late James Jason Austin and Kate McKeown Austin. He was retired from Monarch Mill and The Union Daily Times. Mr. Austin was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. He was a Charter Member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was custodian and Soft Ball Coach for many years.

Survivors are a daughter, Judy A. Yarbrough and husband Jimmy; two sons: Ralph Austin, Jr and wife Teresa and Mike Austin and wife Lynn all of Union; a sister, Marian A. English; a brother, James E. Austin and wife Jane all of Union; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; a special cousin Mildred Farr of Union. Mr. Austin was predeceased by a sister, Alvalene Baker, three brothers: William S. Austin, Paul Harold Austin, F.D. Austin and a foster brother, Coy Jones.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, September 24, 2007 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Timothy Lynn Moss, age 50, husband of Frances Connie Cook Moss of 523 Hart Street, Union, SC formerly of Gaffney died Saturday, September 22, 2007 at his home.

Mr. Moss was born in Union SC, December 12, 1956, a son of Jeanette Ivey Moss of Union and the late James E. Moss. He was employed with Exopac and was formerly employed with Altman Printing. Mr. Moss was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church and was a big NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhart.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are: two daughters: Nakia Dawn Gossett of Spartanburg and Cory Beth Moss of Gaffney; a son, Dennis James "DJ" Moss of Gaffney; a sister, Pam Moss Lipsey and husband Steve of Jonesville; three brothers: Mike Moss and wife Cheryl, Freddy Moss and wife Stephanie all of Union and Dennis Moss and wife Jan of Gaffney, three grandchildren: Kaitlyn MaKenzie Gossett, Kierstin Dawn Gossett and Bobby Dean "Trey" Gossett all of Myrtle Beach; three step-children and seven step-grandchildren. Mr. Moss was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents: Wallace and Lena Greer Ivey and John Henry and Maude Childers Moss.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 24, 2007 at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. John Cribb and Rev. Manning Strickland. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jim Randy Ivey, Steve Greer, Louis Petty, Steve Lipsey, Jr., Dennis "DJ" Moss and Shaun Moss. Mrs. Nancy Morris Baker, age 56, wife of Gerald Baker of 238 Old English Rd., Union, SC went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 25, 2007.

Mrs. Baker was born in Union, SC February 20, 1951, a daughter of the late O.E. "Buck" Morris and Margaret Sweezy Morris. She was a 1970 graduate of Union High School and also a graduate of Spartanburg Tech. Mrs. Baker was formerly employed with the Disney Plant in Jonesville and attended Morningside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Ron Lybrand and fiancee Kate Roberts of Union; a sister-in-law, Vanda Morris of Union; two aunts: Christine S. Knox of Union and Marcia S. Greki of Tryon; a niece, Tammy Morris; two nephews: Timothy Knox and family and Jason Knox and family all of Union and a number of cousins. Mrs. Baker was predeceased by a sister, Victoria M. Knox and a brother, Derril Morris.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Scott was born August 20, 1932 in Whitmire, SC, a daughter of the late George Von and Annie Hall Sizemore. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia Henry and husband Charles of Charlotte; a son, Ken Wages of Union; a sister, Joyce Quinn of Aiken; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Kitchen McClellan

Mrs. Dorothy Kitchen McClellan, age 78 of 234 Hawthorne Rd., Union, SC, widow of Claude M. McClellan died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. McClellan was born in Pomeria, SC October 11, 1928, a daughter of the late Reuben Kitchen and Blanche Felker Kitchen Crocker. She retired from Cone Mill-Carlisle Finishing Plant and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Surviving are five daughters: Linda Williams of Whitmire, Gayle Stamper of Winter Haven, Fl, Kathy McClellan of the home, Jane Vaughan and Sally McClellan both of Union; a son, Ray McClellan of the home; five grandchildren: Monty Vaughan, Dottie Bevis, Rebecca Stamper, Michael Vaughan and Laura Chaney and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. McClellan was predeceased by a brother, Rufus Kitchen.

Mr. Michael Ray "Mike" Cogdill, age 40, husband of Myria Davis Cogdill of 127 Brown St., Union, SC, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007.

Mr. Cogdill was born in Camden, SC, Nov. 22, 1966 a son of Bobby R. Cogdill and Louise Strange Cogdill of Union. He was a 1985 graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Cogdill was owner of B & M Auto Sales, Inc. of Union and faithfully attended Welcome Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are one daughter: Betsy S. Robinson and husband Kevin of Union; one son: David E. Sinclair and wife Sonya of Buffalo; one sister: Debbie C. Edwards and husband Dean of Spartanburg; three grandchildren: Amanda Sinclair, Nathan and Noah Robinson; a nephew: Colby Michael Edwards and a niece Jessica Danielle Edwards both of Spartanburg. Mr. Cogdill was predeceased by his grandparents: Grady and Reba Strange and H.C. and Marie Cogdill all from Winnsboro.

Mr. Rector was born in Union County, SC July 19, 1932, a son of the late Thomas Ervin Rector, Sr and Hattie Gault Rector. He retired from J.P. Stevens - Jonesville Plant and Kohler & Co. Mr. Rector was a former member of the South Carolina National Guards - Company C- Jonesville Unit. He was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Survivors are three daughters: Vickie Alexander and husband Dean, Tammy Tilley and husband Randall and Jan Cooper and husband Mike all of Jonesville; two sons: Steve Rector of Jonesville and Eugene Rector and wife Joyce of Union; a sister, Lucille Humphries of Rock Hill; a brother, Roy Rector and wife June of Jonesville; two nieces: Harriett Moss of Jonesville and Juanita Kennedy of Georgia; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Tommy Lipsey; a number of nieces and nephews and special friends Bo Ham and Haskell Peeler. Mr. Horton was born in Chester County, SC, March 28, 1928, a son of the late John O. Horton, Sr and Monty Byers Horton. He retired from Milliken & Co-Lockhart Plant and was of the Presbyterian Faith. Mr. Horton was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Diane Thompson, Debbie Allen and Tammy Horton; two sons: Roger Horton and Dennis Horton all of Lockhart; two sisters: Annie McKee and Bobbie Ellis both of Cherryville, NC; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and his loving Pomeranian, Roxanne. Mr. Horton was predeceased by a sister, Frances Ashe and a brother, Hennis Horton.

Mrs. Gowan was born in Spartanburg County, SC, November 3, 1954, a daughter of the late Billy I. Thompson and Leola Brandle Thompson. She was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a brother, Ricky Thompson and wife Tammy of Wellford; a mother-in-law, Helen T. Gowan of Union; two grandchildren: Reese Gowan and Riley Gowan both of Laurens and a step-son, Stacey Lee Gowan of Laurens. Mrs. Gowan was predeceased by a son, Randall Scott Burrell.

Mrs. Hovis was born in Kings Mt., NC February 28, 1929, a daughter of the late Marvin W. Odom and Mary Morrow Odom. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors are a daughter, Brenda Alford of Rock Hill; a son, William L. Hovis, Jr of Union; three sisters: Marnita Mason of Indiana, Marvis Hoggatt of Florida and Marion Crall of Texas; a brother, Mark Odom of Tennessee; four grandchildren: Kevin Alford of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Krystal McKenzie and Jerry Hovis both of Rock Hill and Sierra Hovis of Union and four great-grandchildren: Lauren Alford and Alexis Alford both of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Sara McKenzie and Brittany Alford both of Rock Hill.
