Mr. John Cruz Garrido, age 56, husband of Eleanor "Ellie" Manibusan Garrido of 155 Lite Street, Jonesville, SC died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Garrido was born in Guam on March 4, 1952 a son of Josefa Cruz Garrido of Talofofo, Guam and the late Juan Mantanona Garrido. He retired Chief Master Sergeant, USAF, Aerospace Ground Equipment Superintendent with Dyn Corp International at Doha, Qatar. He was formerly employed with Weave Tec in Union as Plant Manager.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a son, Jimmy Garrido and wife Cathy of Pooler, Ga; a daughter, Jean Marie G. Koosa and husband Mickey of Chapin, SC; three grandchildren: Noelani Garrido of Pooler, Ga, Kanani and Brady Koosa both of Chapin, SC; three sisters: Dolores " Lolang"Cruz and husband Vicente of Aurora, CO, JoAnn Garrido of Phoenix, AZ and Marilyn Deplata and husband Tomas of Talofofo, Guam three brothers: Felix Garrido and wife Catalina of Lancaster, CA, Benny Garrido and wife Lee and Joseph Garrido and wife Rita all of Phoenix, AZ; in-laws: Beverly and Roman Camacho, Rita and Gary Cooper all of Union, Doris and Tony Duenas of Fayetteville, NC, Geri and Alvin Lominick of Greenwood, Bertha and Tony Dempsey of Clinton, Jeanette and Robert DuBell and Sandy and Colin Ottersten all of Virginia Beach, VA and Pacita "Patty" and Elmer Lizama of Asan, Guam, Tommy and Lisa Manibusan of Union and William and Cecilia Cruz of Fayetteville, NC; a special friend and cousin JoAnn P. Tenorio of Vancouver, WA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Garrido was predeceased by his paternal grandparents: Felix and Teresa Garrido, maternal grandparents: Vicente and Dolores Cruz; in-laws: Tomas and Milagro Manibusan and step-father George Ponder, brother-in-law, Bill Manibusan and best friend/cousin, Juan L. Tenorio.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2008 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be 3:00 PM Saturday at Union Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors..

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Garrido, Mickey Koosa, Felix Garrido, Benny Garrido, Joseph Garrido, Vicente Cruz, Thomas DePlata and James Bright, III. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Manibusan, William Cruz, Roman Camacho, Tony Duenas, Gary Cooper, Alvin Lominick, Robert DuBell, Anthony Dempsey and Colin Ottersten.

Visitation will be held 6:00-9:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2008, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Plato Lynch "P.L." Hill, age 84, husband of Theo Bogan "Tweet" Hill of 117 Orin Graham Circle, Pauline, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Hill was born in Flat Rock, NC, July 4, 1923, a son of the late Reuben and Irene Tabor Hill. He was a graduate of Flat Rock High School and Cecil’s Business College in Asheville. Mr. Hill was retired from Belk Hudson Corp. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. He was a member of Oakgrove Baptist Church in Flat Rock and attended West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son: Michael Hill and wife Sharon of Pensacola, FL; one brothers: Jennings Hill of Spartanburg; one sister-in-law: Lessie Hill of Tuxedo, NC, 2 granddaughters: Melonie Smothers and Penny Eckler; 2 great-grandchildren: Cole and Micah Smothers. Mr. Hill was predeceased by eleven other brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Gary Peterson and Rev. Joe White.

Active pallbearers will be Bucky Sprouse, Randall Bogan, Marshall Bogan, Mike Brewington, Fred Goepfert, and Ray Shamblin.

Visitation will be held immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Pearl Stalnaker Meggs, age 97, widow of Raymond Meggs, formerly of Lockhart, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 in Brookview Health Care Center in Gaffney, SC.

Mrs. Meggs was born in Atlanta Ga.a daughter of the late G. A. Stalnaker and Josie Whitman Stalnaker. She was a retired licenced practical nurse and was a member of Lockhart United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirlene Gregory of Jonesville, SC, a son Joe A. Meggs of Jonesboro, GA, a brother Richard "Dick" Stalnaker of Union, SC : 4 grandchildren; Thomas Gregory, of Bishopville, SC, Martha Gregory of Union, SC, Richard Gregory of Lockhart, SC , Mary Shue of Concord, NC. and 3 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by 3 brothers: Horace Stalnaker, Grady Stalnaker and Joe Harvey Stalnaker and 2 infant sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 7, 2008 at Union Memorial Gardens by Rev. Alan Quarles.

Una Rebecca "Bootsie"Belue
Carlisle, SC

Mrs. Una Rebecca "Bootsie" Belue, age 84 of 3462 Janie Gore Blvd., Carlisle, SC, died Saturday April 5, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Belue was born Jan. 6, 1924 in the Pea Ridge Section of Union County a daughter of the late Ernest Morris and Martha Ivey Morris. She was first married to the late Richard Carl Levister and was the widow of Russell "Junior" Belue.

Mrs. Belue was retired from Cone Mills Corp., Carlisle Finishing Plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter Rebecca Ann Anglin of Roebuck, SC; 3 sons, Jerry Wayne Green of Greenwood, SC, Joe M.. Levister and John Carl Levister of Carlisle; a sister, Inez Ferguson of Rock Hill, SC and a brother, Ernest "Boone" Morris of Jonesville, SC. She was pre-deceased by a son, Richard Ellis Levister.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Kelly’s Chapel Cemetery, Carlisle, SC by Rev. Edgar Foster. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Kimberly "Kim" Lambert
Jonesville, SC

Ms. Kimberly Joan "Kim" Lambert, age 48 of Jonesville, SC went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 4, 2008 in White Oak Manor, Spartanburg, SC.

Kim was born in Union, SC Feb 1, 1960, a daughter of Christine Maness Lambert of Union and the late William "Bill" Lambert. She attended Jonesville High School and was a loving mother, daughter and sister.

Kim is survived in addition to her mother by two sons: Mitchell Horton of Union and Josh Horton of Greensboro, NC; two sisters: Gigi Burgess of Jonesville and Deborah Burnett of Greenwood; a niece, several nephews and cousins. Kim is also survived by a very special and dedicated companion and friend, Jim Bowers of Lockhart.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 1:45-2:45 PM Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home prior to the service.

Martha Ham Lovel
Yelkhart, IN

Martha Ham Lovely, 73, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008.

Ms. Lovely was born in Union, SC, January 6, 2008, a daughter of the late Gettes and Emily Redmon Ham. She was retired from Taylor Products and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are two daughters: Kathy (Dallas) Rohrer and Melinda Roberts both of Elkhart, IN; two sons: Eugene Neil Lovely of Elkhart, IN and Gettes Van Ham of Jonesville; five sisters: Gladys H. (Reese) Henderson and Lennie Ham both of Union, Rachel H. (Frank) Kelly of Jonesville, Ruby H. Livingston of Newberry, and Shirley H. (Buddy) Vanderford of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Ms. Lovely was predeceased by a brother, Gettes Ham Jr. and a sister Ruth H. Moore.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Lakeside Drive Church of Christ conducted by Minister Ronnie Tripp. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Lovely’s nephews will serve as active pallbearers.

The body will be carried to the home, 1200 S. Pinckney St., Union, 12:00 PM Saturday where the family will receive friends and will be placed in the church at 2:00 PM Sunday to await the hour of service.

Mrs. Faye Tucker Byrd, age 81 of Woodlawn Manor Apartments, Union, SC, widow of William A. Byrd died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Byrd was born in Union, SC November 20, 1926, a daughter of the late Walter Tucker and Lenoria Davis Tucker. She retired from Excel Hosiery Mill and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faye Teague Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a daughter, Dianne B. Hendricks and husband Jimmy; a son, Steve Byrd; two brothers: Floyd Tucker and wife Mary and Hugh Tucker and wife Linda all of Union; five grandchildren: Robin Williams, Angie Ramsey, Allyson Williams, Erica Long and husband D.J. and Tracy Butler and husband Roy; six great-grandchildren: Jessica Ramsey, Makayla Bennett, Paiden Long, Blyth Long, Garrett Butler and Megan Butler. Mrs. Byrd was predeceased by two brothers: Leroy Tucker and Marvin Tucker.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2008 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Brown, Richard Brown, Francis Ramsey, Randy Sinclair, D.J. Long and Will Jolly. Mrs. Anna Smith Rollo, age 74, wife of Ernie W. Rollo, of 2620 Blackstock Rd., Enoree, died Thursday, April 10 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Rollo was born in Union Co., June 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Englesby Thomas Smith and Laura Lawson Smith. She was a graduate of Pauline High School and attended business college. Mrs. Rollo was a retired clerk with the S.C. Highway Dept. in Spartanburg and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one sister: Phoebie Aniece Vaughn of Martinez, GA and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rollo was predeceased by a sister, Mary Nell Veitch, and five brothers: Marvin Smith, E.T. Smith, Herman Smith, Fred Smith and Paul Smith.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. D.Shane Dismuke and Rev. Keith Taylor.

Visitation will be held after the service in the Aiken Hall of the church.

Mrs. Ethel Ivey Thompson, age 90 of 822 South Duncan By-Pass, Union, SC, widow of Walter S. Thompson went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 10, 2008.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Union, SC December 3, 1917, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ivey. She was retired from Textiles and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Training Union Leader. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Keenagers, WMU and the Widows Group of the church.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bevis, Sr.; two sisters: Mrs. Martha Shaw and Mrs. Julia Greer; a brother, Mr. Joe Ivey all of Union; two grandchildren: Chip Bevis and his wife Tiffany of Lebanon, TN and Shep Bevis and his wife Amanda of Union; seven great-grandchildren: Lauren, Makenna, Anna, Elizabeth, Reece, Andrew, Caroline and Molly.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shep Bevis. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be James Coffer, Jay Coffer, Eddie Hines, Luther Gibbs Arthur, Rick Jeffcoat and Dr. Jeff Craft. The Searchers Sunday School Class and the Keenagers of Tabernacle Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group.

Mrs. Mary Louise Bullington Helms, age 77, widow of Willie Ray Helms, formerly of Union, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at Laurens County Hospital.

Mrs. Helms was born in Union, May 6, 1930 a daughter of Claude and Willie Mae Phillips Bullington. She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are three grandchildren: Jennifer Gallman and husband R.E. Gallman, IV, Joy Frost and Angel Frost all of Union; a great-grandchild, Andrew Gallman; a sister, Estell Chastain of Gastonia, NC; two sisters-in-law: Ellen Bullington of Union and Betty Bullington of Greenville. Mrs. Helms was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Ann Nichols, a sister, Ruth Toney and two brothers, William Bullington and Junior Bullington.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2008 at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Charles Parriott. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Sunday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Dorothy A. Fowler

Mrs. Dorothy Allen Fowler, age 79, widow of Jennings R. Fowler, Jr. formerly of Jonesville, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Buffalo, May 23, 1928, a daughter of the late Cleveland and Mattie O’Shield Allen. She was retired from J.P. Stevens in Jonesville and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter: Carol F. Rodgers of Waterloo; two step-sons: Steven V. Fowler of Cayce and Dennis B. Fowler of Anderson; one step-daughter: Rita D. McGhee of Honaker, VA; one sister: Evelyn Brown of Buffalo; two brothers: William Allen of Kentucky and Frank Allen of Columbia; three grandchildren: Hunter Rodgers, Dillion Rodgers and Jessica Tucker and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Heath Easler and Rev. Steven V. Fowler.

The family will receive friends at the graveside after the service.

Mrs. Maxine Hendrix Cargill, age 78, widow of Rev. Jones B. Cargill of 252 Pineland Rd., Union, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at Laurens Co. Hospital.

Mrs. Cargill was born in San Pedro, CA, August 25, 1929 a daughter of the late Benny Judson Hendrix and Ida Bell Johns Smith. She was a member of the Leesville Southern Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are one daughter: Mary Beth Bower and husband Roy of Montgomery, AL; one son: Thomas M. Cargill of the home; two grandsons: Michael Lee Hinsey and Arron Wayne Hinsey; grand-daughters-in-law and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. E. LeGrande Adams, Rev. Bill Adams and Rev. Marvin Clark. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Richard Calvin "R.C." Farner, age 85, husband of Thelma Davis Farner of 202 E. Hillcrest Ave. Union, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Farner was born in Union, November 19, 1922, a son of the late Bert M. Farner, Sr. And Venette Toney Farner. He was a graduate of Union High School class of 1942 and retired from Torrington Co.. Mr. Farner was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post 3122. He was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and the Thomas Alexander Sunday School class.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter: Sue F. Barnett and husband Wayne of Buffalo; one grandson: Jeff Barnett and wife Kim of Lexington; two great-grandchildren: Cole and Hayes Barnett; a beloved niece and nephew: Linda Davis and Oscar Johnson both of Union and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Farner was predeceased by a sister: Nathalee Johnson and two brothers: W.T. Farner and Bert M. Farner, Jr.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Benny Green and Rev. James Crocker.

Visitation will be held at the graveside after the service.

Kayla LeAnn Brooks
Jonesville, SC

Miss Kayla LeAnn Brooks, age 16 of 1260 Gaffney Hwy, Jonesville, SC died Saturday, April 12, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Kayla was born in Lexington, SC August 9, 1991 and was an eleventh grade student at Union County High School where she was active in various school activities. She was an active member of Oakbrook Community Church where she served as a volunteer. Through her commitment to the Lord, Kayla was a shining light to her family and many friends.

Kayla is survived by her father and step-mother, Morris and Nadine Brooks of the home; her mother and step-father, Katrina and Tracey Tull of Jacksonville, AL; a sister, Crystal Erwin of Union; two brothers: Jamie Erwin of Union and Michael Ashley of AL; paternal grandmother, Joyce Berochesky of Union; maternal grandmother, Kathleen McRory of AL; a niece, Destiny Vanderford of Union and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Marion Bristow.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Oakbrook Community Church conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at Oakbrook Community Church, 520 Alman Street, Jonesville.

Mr. Lucius H. Jones, Jr age 78 of White Oak Manor in Spartanburg, SC, formerly of Union, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Jones was born in Spartanburg, SC December 4, 1929, a son of the late Lucius H. Jones, Sr and Maude Shackleford Jones. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a retired textile worker and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Price and husband Ray of Campobello, SC; a son, Brian Jones of N.C. and a granddaughter, April Blair of Norman, OK. Mr. Jones was predeceased by a brother, James Robert Jones, Sr.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Tommy Turner. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Mrs. Irene Medora Roark Hawkins, age 93 of 111 Partridge Rd., Union, SC, widow of Arthur O’Dell Hawkins died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Pacolet, SC August 3, 1914, a daughter of the late William Dexter Morris and Lula Jett Morris. She was formerly employed with United Merchants & Manufacturing, Union Plant and was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hawkins was first married to the late Stanley Roark.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy R. Lovelace of Union; a son, Bruce Hawkins and wife Emily with whom she made her home; seven grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by a son, George "Bill" Roark; a sister, Louise Wilson and two brothers, Earl Morris and Blease Morris.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Roger Estes. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Darren Canupp, Chad Canupp, Chuck Turner, Harold Coleman, John Turner, and Ted Lovelace.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Friday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Thomas Preston Greene, Jr, age 59 of 168 Hilltop View, Union, SC died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Greene was born in Union, SC, April 12, 1949, a son of Grace Chalk Greene of Union and the late Thomas P. Greene, Sr. He retired from American Fiber and Finishing and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Lesley Austin and husband Scotty, Kim Ruby and husband Scott and Melody Greene all of Union; a son Preston Greene of Union; three sisters: Pansy Ray of Rock Hill, Phyllis Morrow of Union and Jaquelyn Oiler of Arkansas and eight grandchildren. Mr. Greene was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth Weaver and a son, Tom Tom Greene.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Wilma Eubanks Cunningham
Jonesville, SC

Mrs. Wilma Eubanks Cunningham, age 95, formerly of Jonesville, SC, widow of T.D. Cunningham, Jr died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at National Health Care of Laurens, Laurens, SC.

Mrs. Cunningham was born May 2, 1912, a daughter of the late Robert R. Eubanks and Ruth Brown Eubanks. She retired from Scott Brothers Drug Store in Jonesville. Mrs. Cunningham was an active member of Jonesville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir, Dora Patton Sunday School Class and a former member of John Hames Chapter Of United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Surviving area daughter, Joan Stevens and husband Dennis of West Springs; a son, Tommy Cunningham of Jonesville; two sisters: Rena E. Ammons and Millie E. Parks both of Union; two grandchildren: Tim Stevens and wife Rhonda of West Springs and Matthew Cunningham of Jonesville and a great granddaughter, Andrea Stevens of West Springs. Mrs. Cunningham was predeceased by her first husband, Jim White, two sisters, Helen E. Ferrell and Frances E. Clark and a brother Robert Eubanks.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Jonesville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Gilmer. Burial will be in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be David Eubanks, Kenny Parks, Hugh McCown, Richard Gault, Wayne Anthony and Chase Parks.

Ashley Nicole Johnson, age 25 of 1607 Double Branch Rd., Cowpens, SC died Thursday, April 24, 2008 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC.

Ms. Johnson was born in Spartanburg, SC September 11, 1982, a daughter of Tracy Yvonne Johnson Carter of the home and the late Oren Bruce Carter. She was active in her daughter’s school activities and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a daughter, Tristan Nicole Hood ; a son Nicolas Bruce Hood both of the home; a sister, Crystal Fuller and husband Jason; a brother, Brian Carter all of Cowpens; a step-father, Doyle Edward Carter, Jr of the home; a step-sister, Michelle Epley and husband Robin of Clifton, three step-brothers: Daniel Nelson and wife Deana of Boiling Springs, Jeremie Carter of Cowpens and Matthew Carter and finacee Jamie of Chesnee; five nieces and four nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Pacolet Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Dennis Tessnear.

Christopher Adam Williford, age eleven days, son of Charles Joshua Williford, Sr and Karen Denise Warren Williford of 117 Willford Road, Union, SC died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Christopher was born in Spartanburg, SC April 15, 2008.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a twin sister, Taylor Elizabeth Williford and a brother, Charles Joshua Williford, Jr both of the home; maternal grandmother, Clara Robinette and step-grandfather James Robinette of Union; maternal grandfather, Randy Warren and step-grandmother Monica Warren of Dalton, Ga; paternal grandmother, Christine Williford of Union and the late James Williford, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 28, 2009 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Mildred Gist Bogan, age 85 of the West Springs Community, Jonesville, SC, widow of F.P. "Junior" Bogan died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Bogan was born in Union County, S.C., December 10, 1922, a daughter of the late Ben H.Gist and Myrtle Lawson Gist. She was formerly employed with the Buffalo Seafood House and was a lifetime member of Bogansville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, June B. Henderson and husband Wayne of West Springs Community; a son, Rodney Bogan of Spartanburg; a sister, Fannie Ruth Hyatt; a brother-in-law, Louie Hyatt both of the West Springs Community; five grandchildren: Mica Duncan and husband Tripp, Mindy Tyler and husband Michael, Lindsay Bogan, Misty Henderson and Taylor Bogan; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bogan was predeceased by three sisters: Agnes Adams, Carrie Gregory and Erlene Hyatt.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Gary Peterson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. James Edward Puckett, Jr age 78, husband of Helen Knox Puckett of 3566 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy, Buffalo, SC went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Puckett was born in Union County, SC December 4, 1929, a son of the late James Edward Puckett, Sr and Corrie Bevis Puckett. He retired from Meador Oil Company in Union and was a carrier for the Union Daily Times for fourteen years. Mr. Puckett was a member of Putman Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Shrine Club, a Mason, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Shirley Norwood and husband Mitch of Joanna, SC and Karen Knox of Pea Ridge; a son, Jerry Fox and wife Lynn of Buffalo; a sister, Connie Knox of Buffalo; two brothers: Roy Puckett and wife Pam of Union and Eddie Puckett and wife Susan of Chesnee; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Puckett was predeceased by a daughter, Vicky Faye Morris, a son, Ernest Eugene Puckett, three sisters: Mildred Puckedtt, Joyce West and Jenny Beard and four brothers: Harold, Gene, Ralph and Troy Puckett.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook and Rev. Charles Price. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Knox, Robert Knox, Richard Puckett, Butch Puckett, Michael Beard and Neal Burris. The staff of Union Daily Times along with the paper carriers are asked to sit in a group.

Mrs. Elizabeth Queen Stepp, age 76, wife of J.B Stepp of 706 Perrin Avenue, Union died

Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a long illness.

Mrs. Stepp was born in Union, May 12, 1931 a daughter of the late Will and Bessie Frost Queen. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter: Treena Bishop of Spartanburg; two sons: Joe Stepp of Union and Eddie Dean Stepp of Spartanburg; two sisters: Mary Cameron and Daisy Smith both of Union; two brothers: Carl Queen of Union and George Queen of Chester; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Chaplain Clegg Taylor.

The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family will be at their respective homes.
