William Curtis Teauge
Union, S.C.

Mr. William Curtis "Curt" Teague, age 74, husband of Shirley Gregory Teague of 317 Westminister Circle, Union, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 30, 2008 after a long illness. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Mr. Teague was born in the Monarch community of Union, May 9, 1934, a son of the late Newland F. and Emma Willard Teague. Mr. Teague was a graduate of Union High School, Cecil’s Business College, Spartanburg Technical College and the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in Korea and England. After his tour of duty he attended college and was employed as a corporate accountant in private industry and later as a South Carolina State employee. He was a former member of the National Association of Accountants. Mr. Teague was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Men’s Club, and the Bethel "Bums".

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Beverly E. Teague of Union and Carlyne T. Puckett and husband Freddie of Union; two sisters: Nora T. Ingle of Union and Nancy T. Cagle of Simpsonville; two brothers: Robert Kenneth Teague of Union and Joe Stanley Teague of Mauldin; one grandson: Greg Boulware; four granddaughters: Chelsea Boulware, Brittany Teague, Brianne Teague and Makenzie Puckett all of Union and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Bethel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Terry Mitchell.

Visitation will be held immediately following the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Hwy., Union, or to Union Co. Meals on Wheels, c/o Monte Lancaster, Arthur State Bank, Union, SC, 29379.

Daisy L. Smith
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Daisy L. Smith, age 79, widow of Fletcher "Rat" Smith of 103 Stutts Ave. Union, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union, August 21, 1928 the daughter of the late Bessie Frost Queen. She was retired from Milliken Co., Monarch Plant and previously worked at Excel Hosiery Mill in Union. Mrs. Smith attended Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.

Surviving are Michael Gregory, raised as a son of her own, and his wife Jennie with whom Mrs. Smith made her home. Raised as grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Lance Gregory and wife Jennifer and their three children, Madison Grace, Andrew, and Elizabeth all of Easley and Andrea Gregory and her daughter Lydia Claire "Lydibell" Smith of Union. Also surviving is a sister: Mary Cameron of Union; two brothers: Carl Queen and wife Reva of Union and George Queen and wife Brenda of Chester; two brothers-in-law: J. B. Stepp of Union and Gilbert Smith and wife Lucille of Jonesville; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Smith of Columbia; a special niece, Kacie Gregory Rice of Union. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Stepp and a brother-in-law: Lewis Smith.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kent Smith, Smitty Smith, Willie Rice, Joey Gregory, Paul Gregory and Randy Gregory.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Jake Willis Wynn, Jr.
Pacolet, SC

Mr. Jake Willis Wynn, Jr., age 78, widower of Pearl Millwood Wynn of 370 Glenn Springs Rd. Pacolet, SC., died Monday, August 4, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Wynn was born in Jonesvillle, May 25, 1930 a son of the late Jake W. and Maybelle Davis Wynn. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Company, Jonesville Plant and was of the Baptist faith. An ordained minister, he served various churches in need of assistance.

Survivors are four daughters: Cathy Lang and husband Michael of Pacolet, Belinda Jett, Bonnie Sowers both of Union, and Cindy Wood and husband Dr. Harold Wood of Jonesville; three sons: Roger Wynn and wife Arlene, Tony Wynn and Michael Wynn all of Jonesville; two sisters: Mary Bostic and Rosa Lee Mize both of Cliffside, NC.; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Wynn was predeceased by a brother: Everett Gene Wynn, two grandsons: Michael Lang, Jr. and Tony Wynn, II, a granddaughter: Wendi Wynn-Richard, and a great-granddaughter: Harley Maness-Richard.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Chapel conducted by the Rev. Andrew Carrigan and the Rev. Jackie Carrigan. Burial will follow in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be Justin Addis, Phillip Jett, Dale Wynn, Cris Wynn, Jeffery Cooke, and Stevie Bostic.

Frances "Yank" Nichols
Union, SC

Mrs. Mary Frances "Yank" James Nichols, age 90, widow of James H. Nichols formally of Union died Monday August 4, 2008 at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Pickens, SC.

Mrs. Nichols was born in Union, SC. September 22, 1917 a daughter of the late Claude James and Sue Jolly James. Mrs. Nichols was a member of Unity United Methodist Church. For many years she and her late husband were owners and operators of Nichols’ Grocery located on South Pinckney St. in Union. Mrs. Nichols was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by a son: James K. ("Kim" or "Nick") Nichols and wife Faye of Pickens, SC.; and two grandchildren: Lindsay Nichols and Kevin Nichols both of Pickens, SC.

Funeral services will held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Unity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. David Nichols. Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning at Unity United Methodist Church from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. prior to the service.

Emma Fay Mitchell
Union, SC

Rev. Mrs. Emma Fay Mitchell, age 69, widow of Benjamin Mitchell of 296 Meansville Rd. Brittany Manor Apartments, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at her home.

Rev. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Union August 4, 1939 a daughter of the late Douglas Knox and Sarah Black Knox. Rev. Mrs. Mitchell attended Union County Schools and worked very hard to receive her Minster Degree. She was serving Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and was a member of Chambertown Community Church.

Survivors are three daughters: Sarah E. Wallace of Union, Ilene E. Dehart of Spartanburg, SC. and Sandy E. Lee of Jonesville, SC.; a sister: Nancy L Flemings of Gaffney, SC.; a brother: James L. Knox of Whitmire, SC.; ten grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Chapel conducted by the Rev. Trina Parham. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ricky Jenkins, Charles Miles, Corey Smith and Calvin Jeter.

Joretta C. Canupp

Mrs. Joretta Carter Canupp, age 56, wife of Eddie Canupp of 3694 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy. Union, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at her home.

Mrs. Canupp was born August 14, 1951 in Lockhart, SC, a daughter of Espy Erlene McMahan Carter of Lockhart and the late James William Carter. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and received an Associates Degree from York Technical College. Mrs. Canupp was a retired associate from Milliken, Co, Monarch Plant.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter: Stephanie Inglett and husband Eric of Union; a son: Richard Stephenson of Spartanburg, SC.; a granddaughter Rileigh Jade Inglett; a brother: James Kevin Carter of Lockhart, SC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ricky Cook.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday, evening August 6, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Janet Dillard Inman Stone, age 92, widow of Byrd Lee Stone formerly of Buffalo, passed away quietly Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Stone was born in Spartanburg, March 30, 1916, a daughter of the late Hugh Ray Dillard and Nettie Edmondson Dillard. She was a graduate of Lander University and a retired Union Co. school teacher having taught at Putman, Monarch, Buffalo and also Wellford and Spartanburg. Mrs. Stone was a faithful and active member of Buffalo United Methodist Church where she was a previous Sunday School teacher. Active in her community, she also was a volunteer with Union Co. Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Stone was first married to the late William Jennings Inman.

Surviving are a son: Jennings Ray Inman of Hull, GA; two grandsons: Steven Ray Inman and Phillip Andrew Inman; a brother; Brock Dillard of Union; other brothers and sisters-in-law are: Edna Stone Jenkins, Billy Hobert Inman, Jr. and wife Nell, Fredrick Roger Inman and wife Ann, Valerie Inman Phillips, I.G. Vanderford, and many nieces , nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Kevin Dalton. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Madeen L. Garrison, age 68, widow of Sgt M. Robert S. Garrison of 101 Katelyn’s Way Buffalo died Thursday August 7, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Garrison was born in Berrien County GA. September 18, 1939 a daughter of the late Shade Luke and Maggie Carter Luke. She was retired from One-Hour Martinizing Cleaners in Union and formally worked for S-Mart in Union. Mrs. Garrison was a member of Oakbrook Community Church and a member of the Buffalo Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors are two daughters: Dianne Dawkins of Union, and Pamela Monroe of Buffalo; two sons: Gary Harris and wife Julie of Simpsonville and Kevin Harris and wife Debbie of Ninty Six; a step-daughter: Sandie Coleptzer of Atlanta GA.; a sister : Kathleen Hayes of Willacoochee, GA.; a Brother: Lavawn Luke of Nichols, GA.; a special friend: Hilda Osborne of Buffalo; Nine grandchildren: Lisa Sanders, Courtney Worthy, Mike Coleptzer, Nikki Davis, Justin Wade and wife Britni, Ian, Avonlea, Shae, and Sidney Harris; six great-grandchildren: Dylan and Destiny Sanders, Jaylen Sinclair, Madison Maness, Jakob Clark, Kamdyn Wade.

Robert C. Canupp
Lockhart, SC

Mr. Robert Curtis "Beaver" Canupp, Mayor of Lockhart, S.C., died 8:50 AM Friday, August 8, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Canupp, age 48, was recently elected as Mayor of the town of Lockhart. He resided at 275 Lockhart Dr. with two of his son.

Born February 4, 1960, he was a son of the late Bobby Eugene Canupp, Sr. and Jessie Ann Walker Canupp. He attended Lockhart High School and was member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Canupp was employed with Freeman Gas, Gaffney Office. Active in his community, he was an active member of the Lockhart Volunteer Fire Dept. and had served previously as a member of the Town Council.

Surviving are three sons: Chad Henderson of Union, Donald Allen Canupp and Robert Daniel Canupp both of the home; three sisters: Lynn Williams of Lockhart, Tammy Maloney of Sharon and Stacey Myers of Rock Hill; one brother: Barry Canupp of Lockhart. Mr. Canupp was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Eugene Canupp, Jr.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Lockhart Cemetery conducted by Rev. Ben Hill.

Mrs. Rosa Lee Buice Harvey, age 86, widow of James Perry Buice, Robert L. Wilkins and Frank Harvey formerly of Jonesville, SC. died Friday, August 8, 2008.

Mrs. Harvey was born in Anderson, SC. December 23, 1921 a daughter of the late Robert Lee Edward and Ada Thomas Edwards. She retired from Milliken Plant and was a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Survivors are two sons: Perry Buice and wife Midge of Spartanburg and Pat Buice and wife Patricia of Jonesville; a step-daughter: Frankie and husband Harold of Jonesville; three sisters: Frances Cheek and Virginia Dillard both of Spartanburg, and Sue Fowler of Valley Falls; two brothers: Bob Edwards of Valley Falls, and Jerry Edwards of Spartanburg; three grandchildren: Jamie Buice of Jonesville, Stephanie B. Edwards and husband Paul of Newberry, Pagie B. Witt and husband Rusty of Lyman; three great-grandchildren: Andrew McGee, Sara McGee, Will Edwards all of Newberry. Mrs. Harvey was pre-deceased by a sister: Mildred Lawrence and three brothers: James Edwards, Truman Edwards and Novis Edwards.

Tommie A. Black, Sr.

Mr. Tommie A. Black, Sr., age 72, widow of Barbara "Bobbie" Terry Black and formally married to Edna Black, formally of 136 Woodside Dr. Lockhart SC. died Saturday, August 9, 2008.

Mr. Black was born in Union February 14, 1936 a son of the late Hayes Black and Bertha Childers Black. He was Retired from Torrington Company, a member of Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church, a former member of Lockhart National Guard, a member of Lockhart Masonic Lodge 244. Mr. Black was a former Sunday School teacher, a Deacon and conducted the Children’s Church Services.

Survivors are two daughters: Shirley Smith and husband Mike of Lockhart, and Angie Johnson and special friend Oren Bennett of Union; a son: T. Allen Black, Jr. and wife Jenny of Chesnee; two sisters: Pearl Cook of Union, and Beulah Barbee and husband Robert of Greensbro NC.; five grandchildren: Brad Smith of Monks Corner, Allen Michael Smith of Lockhart, Jonathan Black of Denver, CO., Ashley Johnson of Union, Hannah Black of Chesnee; two step-granddaughters: Brandy Collins and Holly Jones both of Chesnee; two great grandchildren: Nicolas Smith and Natalie Smith of Monks Corner; one step-great grandson Parker Yarbrough of Chesnee. Mr. Black was pre-deceased by a sister: Eva Black, two brothers: Carl Black and Fred Black, and a granddaughter: Barbara Michelle Black.

Mrs. Norma "Poly" Plemons Nance of 202 South Street Buffalo, SC. died Friday, August 8, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Nance was born in Union, SC. September 20, 1943 a daughter of the late Alva Plemons and Aline Guyton Plemons. She was a graduate of Union High School and worked as an Agent for Atlantic Coast Life Insurance.

Survivors are a special friend and life long companion: Karen Wilson of Buffalo, SC.; a daughter: Lisa Hill and husband Michael of Buffalo, SC.; a son: Jeffrey Nance and companion Rick Jacobs of Atlanta, GA.; three brothers: Jim Guyton and Jerry Plemons of Union, SC.; and Joe Plemons of Buffalo, SC.; three grandchildren: Kayla Williford and husband W.T. of Union, SC., Janna Justice Jordan and Ronald Keith Justice, II both of Buffalo, SC.; two great-grandchildren: Layla and Jayla Willford of Union, SC.

Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Horne Rogers, age 80, of 210 Wesley Chapel Rd. Union died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Rogers was born in Jonesville, SC. November 2, 1927 a daughter of the late Frank (Hoss) Horne and Nanny Vanderford Horne. She was retired from United Merchants and Manufacturing Company-Union Plant where she proudly worked for 50 years and 8 days. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are two sons: W. Steven Horne and wife Cynthia of Union and Perry Dean Rogers of the home; a sister Juanita H. Reynolds of Union, two brothers: Lewis E. Horne of Union and Franklin (Dee) Horne of Summerville; a granddaughter: Sherri H. McCutcheon of Union; a grandson: Steven Scott Horne and wife Ella of Union; four great grandchildren Noah McCutcheon, Janah McCutcheon, Daniel Inman, and Logan Betenbaugh all of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rogers was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters: Forrest Horne, Robert A. Horne, Woodrow Horne, William (Pete) Horne, and Johnny Harold Horne; Pearl Thompson, Annie Mae Thompson, Nell Farr and Margaret Knox.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale and the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens. Bill Snyder
Buffalo, SC

Mr. Harold James "Bill" Snyder, age 88, husband of Bobbie Ruth Ford Snyder, of 537 Bailey Road Buffalo SC. pass away Monday morning August 11, 2008 at the Martha Franks Home in Laurens, SC.

Mr. Snyder was born in Spartanburg County March 20, 1920, a son of the late James "Else" Snyder and Pearl Smith Snyder. Mr. Snyder was a decorated disabled veteran of WWII having served with the U.S. Army. He volunteered with the National Guard when it was mobilized in 1940. He was awarded several metals for his service including the Purple Heart for his injuries and the Bronze Star for heroic achievements. After returning home, he was a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Buffalo where he retired after 31 years of service.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a step-daughter: Kathy Youngblood and husband Steve of Buffalo; three step-sons: Tommy Ford and wife Judy of Buffalo; Michael Ford and wife Kara of Pauline; and Lynn Ford and wife April of Union; a sister Ruth Thornthon of Chapin; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three nieces. Mr. Snyder was pre-deceased by his first wife: Mildred Elliott Snyder and two daughters: Kathy Lorraine Snyder and Sue Beale Snyder.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Mrs. Frances V. Robinson, age 85, widow of Clyde "Shorty" Robinson formally of 216 Frank Hill Loop Union, SC. died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Indianapolis Methodist Hospital.

Mrs. Robinson was born in Union, SC. September 25, 1922 a daughter of the late Lemmie Vaughan and Eddie Gregory Vaughan. She retired from Conso Products in Union, and was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Survivors are a daughter: Sandra Bush and husband Peter with whom she made her home in Indianapolis; three grandchildren: Paul Bush, Michael Bush and David Bush and girlfriend Mindy all of Indianapolis; a great-grandchild: Alyssa Bush; two sisters: Aileen Ivey and Doris Eaves both of Union. Mr. Rhoden was born in Bowling Green, FL August 29, 1939 a son of the late Dave Rhoden and Bessie Riness Rhoden.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Randy Rhoden of the home; a daughter: Theresa Johnson of Sevierville, TN; three brothers: Roger Rhoden of FL.; Richard Rhoden and Harry Rhoden of AL.; three sisters: Lucille Ponder, and Pauline Albritton both of FL.; and Rosemary Gant of AL; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Janice Going Alman, age 63, wife of Jimmy W. Alman of Newark, DE., died on Friday, August 8, 2008, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.

Mrs. Alman was born in Sanford, NC, on November 22, 1944, a daughter of the late James E. Going and Avernelle Brown Going. A talented and caring nurse, she was employed as a LPN until her retirement.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jimmy W. Alman; a son, Robert C. Alman of Newark, DE; a daughter, Jane Levan of New Castle, DE; and three grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Rev. James Kenneth Going.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, August 14, 2008 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shep Bevis, Rev. David L. Persinger, and Rev. Lefox Brown.

Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Robert Brent Gossett, age 62, formerly of 302 Springdale Dr., went to be with his Heavenly Father, Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at White Oak Manor, Spartanburg, SC.
Mr. Gossett was born in Union, SC., a son of Mary Sparks Gossett and the late R.P. Gossett. He was a retired Insurance Agent and a member of Duncan Acreas United Methodist Church.

Mr. Gossett loved his church and was a chairman of the official board until his health failed. He was a graduate of Union High School and Massey College in Atlanta, G.A.
Surviving in an addition to his mother is a sister: Tamison Ward of Union, SC., a Nephew: Heath Ward of Union, SC.; two uncles: Robert Sparks of Union, SC., and Wilson “Buck” Gossett of Charleston, SC.; and a number of cousins.

Mr. Wilkins was born in Union, SC., June 16, 1950, a son of the late Edward and Virginia Blackwell Wilkins. He was a retired residential builder, a member of Jonesville Baptist Church and was a Mason.

Surviving is his loving mate of twenty years: Ann; a son: Craig Wilkins and wife Chrissy; a brother: Jimmy Wilkins and wife Dianne all of Jonesville; a step-daughter: Chirsty Warren and husband Jeff of Saluda, NC.; a step-son: Jimmy Chatman of Tryon, NC.; three step-grandchildren: David, Austin, Hunter; a nephew: Edward Wilkins wife Jennifer; a great-nephew: R.J. Wilkins; a special cousin: Tommy Ivey and wife Rita all of Jonesville; and many other special and loving family and friends.

Mrs. Wix was born in Greenwood, SC., September 29, 1922 a daughter of the late E.W. Griffin and Maude Worthy Griffin. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Survivors are three daughters: Patsy Ruth Sprouse of Illinois, Mary Elizabeth Busby and husband Roy of GA., Judith Ann Head and husband Buddy of Gray Court; a son: Curtis "Butch" Wix and wife Deborah of Newberry; two sisters: Elsie Mae Beckham of Chester and Margaret Sullivan of Union; a brother: Thomas Melvin Griffin of Heath Spring; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. William Rufus "Billy-O" O’Daniel, II, age 58, husband of Debbie Adams O’Daniel, of 330 Santuc Dr., Union, died Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. O’Daniel was born in Union, March 5, 1950, a son the late Rufus McBee O’Daniel and Mary Fleming Jeter O’Daniel. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in the Whitmire office and had previously taught school at Sims Jr. High. Mr. O’Daniel was a graduate of Union High School class of 1968 and received his BS degree in Zoology from Clemson University. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Mr. O’Daniel held a World Championship title in turkey calling. He was a member of Carlisle Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Mary Katherine "Katie" O’Daniel Haney and husband Stephen of Santuc; two sisters: Anne O’Daniel DeHart and husband John Wayne of Carlisle and Jane O’Daniel Johns and husband Robert of Prosperity; his mother-in-law: Anne L. Adams of Santuc; nieces and nephews: Matthew B. DeHart, Anne Hamilton DeHart, Allyson T. DeHart, Joe Fields Adams, III, Adam K. Petty and Courtney R. Laverne Vanderford
Union, SC

Laverne "Vernie" Vanderford, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 16, 2008 after a long illness. Laverne was born October 3, 1918 in Lockhart, SC to the late F.B. and Nannie Belle Hopper. She had four siblings, including a twin sister, which preceded her in death. She was married to the late Marvin P. Vanderford for 52 years and the late Herman Louis "Top" Jones for eight years.

Laverne retired from Lockhart Mills in 1980. She was a life long member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church, and was a member of the "Mother’s Class" where she remained active as long as her health permitted. Her deep and abiding faith, along with the memories of Lockhart friends and her church family, sustained her during several years of declining health. Her disease robbed her of many memories, but she never forgot about her "church family" or her "Lockhart friends".

She is survived by two children: Linda Workman and husband, Jim, of Harrisburg, NC, and Forrest Vanderford, of Mt. Holy, NC; three grandchildren; Chuck Mobley and wife Diane, Janet Mobley and husband Bill, and Brian Vanderford as well as seven great grand children. One son, Donald Jones, predeceased her in July 2008.

The children would like to thank the staff of Lancaster Convalescent Center, Lancaster, SC, Unit E, for the care and kindness given to our Mother as well as the support given to us during her time there. Also, we would like to thank the doctors and staff of Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster, SC for their care and kindness during Mom’s last illness.

Mrs. Betty Ann Johnson Bishop, age 81, wife of Jesse Earl Bishop of 2044 23rd Ave. South Birmingham, Ala., died Saturday, August 16, 2008. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bishop are natives of Union, SC.

Mrs. Bishop was born July 24, 1927 a daughter of the late John Henry and Sally Ann Sims Johnson. She was a long time employee of Reynolds Drugs, currently employed with CVS pharmacy and formerly worked in sales and security at Loveman’s Department Store all in Birmingham, Ala. Mrs. Bishop was a 1945 graduate of Union High School.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Carol Bishop Miller and husband Howard of Huntsville, Ala. and Ann Bishop Hinkle and husband Jerry of Vincent, Ala.; a brother: Paul E. Johnson of Union; two granddaughters: Anna Laura of Huntsville, Ala. and Rachel Hipps of San Francisco, CA.

Mr. Iva M. "Buck" Buckner, age 80, husband of Martha Nickles Buckner, of 210 Wilson St., Union, died Wednesday evening, August 20, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Buckner was born in Hampton Co., SC, November 27, 2007 the son of the late Robert and Ruby Long Buckner. He was a graduate of Estill High School and attended the University of South Carolina. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Buckner served in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of several awards including the Bronze Star. He was owner and operator of Buck’s Alternator Shop in Union for over 30 years. Mr. Buckner was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an officer of the church and was a member of the Young Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a sustaining member of the Union Lions Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Karen Flynn and husband Phillip of Lexington, Gayle Comer and husband Leonard of Simpsonville and Susan Lawson and husband Ricky of Union; two sister; 5 grandchildren: Phillip Flynn and wife Ann, Sean Flynn, Lauren Flynn, James Comer and wife Lindsey, and Elizabeth Clayton; 6 great-grandchildren: Karsen Flynn, Kennedy Flynn, Brayden Flynn, Madison Clayton, David Johns, and Nathan Comer.

Mr. James William "Doomer" Lawson, age 80, husband of Doris Jean Varner Lawson, of 1574 Kelly Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 22, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Lawson was born in Union County, a son of the late John Lewis Lawson, Sr. and Minnie Scales Lawson. He was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mr. Lawson was retired from Miliken and Company, the U. S. Postal Service as a substitute mail carrier and the Kelton Recycling Center. He attended Kelly Pinckney High School and was a member of the Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge and the Kelly Kelton Fire Department. Mr. Lawson was a member of Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to his wife and 2 daughters; Karen Finch and husband Ray and Cheryl Lawson all of Union; 3 grandaughters, Tonya Johnson and husband Rodney of Union, Shannon Sumner and husband Richie of Buffalo and Anna Dye of Union; 2 grandsons; Brad Horne and wife Kindra of Union and Jeremy Dye of Tarrytown, New York; 2 chosen daughters; Alice K. Williams and Judy K. McLain of Union, and 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Lawson was pre-deceased by 2 brothers; Perrin Lawson and J. L. Mrs. Walling was born, July 26, 1943 in Colin Texas a daughter of the late Otis R. Jones and Wanda Faye Miller Jones.

Mrs. Walling was a graduate of McKinney High School, Colin Texas and worked in the health care field. She was a member of The Church of Christ.

Mr. Phillips was born in Union, SC. April 20, 1948, a son of the late Douglas Ezell and Annie Belle Fowler Phillips. He was a mason, having served twice as Past Master of Masonic Lodge #351. Mr. Phillips also served on the Minute Men Rescue Team for twelve years and was avid C.B’er. He was a former construction worker and a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Survivors are three daughters: Johnnie Clontz and husband Jodie of Robbinsville, NC., Miki Reynolds and husband Marcus and Christina McKinney and husband, Buddy all of Plymouth, NC.; two sons: Michael Ray Phillips and wife Mary of Robbinsville, NC., and Dennis Lipford of Shreveport, LA.; two sisters Louise Lanier of Simpsonville, SC., and Patricia Bridges of Gray Court, SC.; a brother: Elbert Phillips of Cowpens, SC.; his companion and care giver: Gayle Burris of Union, SC.; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Price was born in Union, SC, on May 15, 1935. She was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Wilson Reid.

Mrs. Price was previously employed in textiles and retail sales. She attended Union High School.

Mrs. Price was of the Baptist faith, and was a lifetime member of Westside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Price is survived by a daughter, Darlene Price Black, of Jonesville. Mr. George J. Moss, age 87, of 3171 Jerusalem Rd., Pacolet, SC widower of Molly Scates Moss, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Brookview Health Care in Gaffney, SC.

Mr. Moss was born in Cherokee County November 18, 1922, a son of the late John Landrum Moss and Hassie Patterson Moss. He retired from Milliken and Company-Lockhart Plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Moss was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are four daughters: Joyce Mills and Doris Dover both of Gaffney, Virginia Moss of Blacksburg and Cheryl Moss of Pacolet; two sons: James E. Moss of the home and Lewis Moss of Union; eleven grandchildren; twenty great- grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Mr. Moss was predeceased by a daughter: Margaret Moss, and two brothers: Clyde Ogle and Edward Moss.

Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Rehobeth Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ricky Cook.

Grandson’s will be Honorary Pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Memorial may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Lucille V. Littlejohn
Union, SC

Mrs. Lucille Vaughan Littlejohn, age 90, widow of Austin F. Littlejohn of 1417 Lockhart Hwy. Union, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at her home.

Mrs. Littlejohn was born in Spartanburg Co., April 2, 1918 a daughter of the late W.T. and Ada Vaughan. She retired from the S.C. Dept of Corrections, Dutchman Facility, as secretary to the warden and had previously worked as Clerk with Union Co. Mrs. Littlejohn had also worked with Milliken Co. Monarch Plant and with Grace United Methodist Church as church secretary for a number of years. She was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was a member of the Jim Smith Sunday School Class. Mrs. Littlejohn was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son: Andy Littlejohn and wife Kay of Union; one granddaughter: Andrea L. Hitzeman and husband Kurt of Carrollton, GA; and a step-son: Gene Littlejohn of Texas. Mrs. Littlejohn was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Vaughan.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Gregg Walker, William Earl Sprouse, Robbie Littlejohn, Jeff Littlejohn, Wayne Springs and Richard Baldwin.

The following are asked to assemble at the church at 1:45 to form the honorary escort: Members of the Jim Smith Sunday School Class, Brent Littlejohn and Donald Littlejohn.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The family is at the home of her son, Andy Littlejohn, 1424 Lockhart Hwy., Union.
