John Roland "Pete" Brown
Pacolet, SC

Mr. John Roland "Pete" Brown, age 83 of 171 Briarwood Drive, Pacolet, SC went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 1, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Restorative Care after a brief illness.

Mr. Brown was born in Goucher, SC December 25, 1924, a son of the late B. Fred and Ruth White Brown. He was a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College where he was Captain of the Basketball Team. Mr. Brown also was a graduate of Wofford College where he was a member of Kalpa Alpha Fraternity; a catcher on the Baseball Team and later went on to play baseball with the Red Sox Miner League Team. He served as Personnel Director for Glendale Mills and later became the first Personnel Director of Kohler Co- Spartanburg Plant when it began it’s operation in 1957. Mr. Brown retired from Kohler Co after thirty years of service and was an avid racing fan. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was a member of the New Covenant Sunday School Class. Mr. Brown was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Barbara Watson Brown; a son, Randy Brown and his wife Pam of Boiling Springs; a sister, Carolyn Brown of Pacolet; a brother, Bobby Brown and his wife Eugenia of Union and a granddaughter, Kristen Brown of Boiling Springs. Mr. Brown was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Bailey.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Morningside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk Neely. Burial will be in the Goucher Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Benji Brown, Richard Brown, Robert Brown, Greg Newton, Dennis Adams and Doug Coleman.

The family will receive friends in the Church Welcome Center of Morningside Baptist Church immediately following the service.

Elizabeth Pridemore
Union, SC

Mrs. Elizabeth Gregory Pridemore, age 83 of 296 Meansville Road, Union, SC died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Laurens County Healthcare System.

Mrs. Pridemore was born in Summerville, SC May 11, 1924, a daughter of the late Philo Gregory and Agnes Barker Gregory. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.

Survivors are two sons: Kyle Pridemore, Jr and his wife Norma of Clinton, SC and Tim Pridemore and his wife Margie of Union; three sisters: Katherine Jones of Boiling Springs, Janelle Bagwell of Greenville and Carol King of Simpsonville; three brothers: Edwin Gregory of Greenville, Francis Gregory of Easley and Dennis Gregory of Greenville; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and a special friend, Dora Fleming. Mrs. Pridemore was predeceased by two daughters, Karen Jewelle Pridemore and Frances Robertson and a son Ronald Pridemore.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Gault, Dean Gault, Danny Pridemore, David Pridemore, George Allen Pridemore and Grady Carson.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Inez Comer Wilson
Union, SC

Mrs. Inez Comer Wilson age 86 of 108 Webber Lake Road, Union, SC, widow of Wallace A. Wilson went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after declining health.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Union, SC April 20, 1921, a daughter of the late Jim comer and Mamie Vinson Comer. She was educated in Union County Schools and later retied from United Merchants. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters who will greatly miss her: Mamie Lou Humphries and husband Doug and Irma Bradburn and husband Harold of Union; eight grandchildren: Sheila Burgess of Cleveland, Ohio, Billy Bradburn and wife Anna of Gaffney, Kristy Harris and Brian Bradburn of Union, Darrell Humphries of Pacolet, Dale Humphries of Gastonia, NC, Donna Malone and husband Joel of Inman and Renae King and husband Craig of Union; fourteen great-grandchildren: Nathan Harris, Noah Harris, Ginger Bradburn, Jennifer Bagwell and husband Josh, Chad Lawson, Terry Burgess, Chelsea Humphries, Bridgett Humphries, Taylor Humphries, Hailey Malone, Camryn Malone, Emery Malone, Paul Wilson and Phillip King; six great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Billie Grace Whitehead of Union. Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by two sons, Billy Wilson and Donald Wilson; a sister, Lillie Mae Willard; a brother, Lewis Vinson and a granddaughter, Donna Kaye Bradburn.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Aubrey Calvert. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home, 108 webber Lake Road, Union, SC where they will receive friends 7:00-9:00 PM Friday night.

Mr. Paul Kenneth Burgess, age 44 of 924 Main Street, Buffalo, SC , husband of Tammy Renee Robinette Burgess died Monday, February 11,2008.

Mr. Burgess was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, August 25, 1963, a son of the late Otis Dean Burgess and Betty Marcella Dover Burgess. He attended Lakeside Baptist Church and was married to Tammy Renee Robinette Burgess.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Kenneth Shane Burgess of Union; a grandson, Dustin Shane Burgess of Enoree; a sister, Betty Beverly and husband David of Raleigh, NC; two brothers: Dean Burgess, Jr of Union and Dennis Burgess and wife Diane of West Springs and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Burgess was predeceased by a brother, Robbie Burgess.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb and Rev. Benny Green.

Active pallbearers will be his son, Kenneth Shane Burgess and the following nephews: Jason Burgess, Brandon Burgess, Joseph Burgess, Daniel Burgess, Michael Burgess and Josh Williford.

Mr. Donnie Gene "Barger" Barber, age 48 of 206 Cambridge Drive, Union, SC died Monday, February 11, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Barber was born in Union, SC April 15, 1959, a son of Pansy Brown Barber of the home and the late James Donald Barber. He was formerly employed with Cone Mill Carlisle Finishing Plant and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a daughter, Nikki Blackwell of Union; three sons: Cody Barber and Collin Barber of the home and Colby Garner of Jonesville; two sisters: Debra Garner and husband Donnie of Jonesville and Dawn Kelley of Union; a niece and numerous nephews and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook and Rev. Randy Burgess. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Chris "Bo" Gregory, Trey Jett, Mark Garner, Dusty Bailey, Stevie Rhinehart and Tracy Tucker.

Sally Faye West
Jonesville, SC

Ms. Sally Faye "Squeaky" West, age 48 of Rogerstown Rd., Jonesville, SC died Monday, February 11, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Ms. West was born in Statesville, NC July 3, 1958, a daughter of Winnie Faye Rice Gore of Jonesville and the late John Douglas Gore. She attended Jonesville High School and was self employed having worked in lawn maintenance and home repair. Mrs. West was previously employed with Eagle Construction. She was a loving daughter and sister and a friend to everyone she met.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a companion of nine years, Douglas Williams of the home; a sister, Sherry Foster and husband Danny; a brother, Jeremy Douglas Gore all of Jonesville; three aunts: Lula Mae Guy and husband George of Statesville, NC, Nellie Shelton of Enoree and Rosie Hartman of Newport News, Va.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the Jonesville Church of God conducted by Rev. Roger Byrd. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be George Guy, Sr., George Guy, Jr., Robert Little, Paul Williams, Mike Cooper and J.P. Cipriano, Sr.

Cedric Shea Fleming
Union, S.C.

Cedric Shea Fleming, age 21, beloved son of Cedric and Linda Hames Fleming of 296 Oakland Rd., Union, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from injuries in an automobile accident.

Shea was born in Union, October 3, 1986 and was currently employed with the Union Co. YMCA and was a Dean’s List Student at USC-U. Shea was a 2005 graduate of Union High School where he was a member of the football team from 2002 until 2005. Because Shea was a caring and giving young man, his family choose to donate his organs so that others may thrive.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister: April Betenbaugh and husband Chris; a brother: Cedric Fleming, Jr.; his maternal grandmother: Ponese Hames; two nieces: Charlie Betenbaugh and Salem Fleming and one nephew: Gavin Betenbaugh; and 7 aunts and uncles. Shea is also leaving behind a very special friend Missy Kirby and Dena Palmer, and his beloved pets, Rex and Shorty. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents: Mr. And Mrs. James I. Fleming; his maternal grandfather: Francis Hames and an uncle: Hennis Hames.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, February 15, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be his best friends: Rhett Smith, Cody Hearn, Jonathan Henderson, Eddie Hulon, Brad Shetley and Alex Hanvey.

Honorary pallbearers will be other close friends and teammates: Gerald Gregory, Adam Parkins, Justin Yarbourgh, Matthew Abee, Jordan Hagan, Andrew Cavender, Travis Arthur Phillip Worthy, Josh Lowery, Jason Cameron, Steven Brewington, Jeremy Sims, Lafayette Dawkins, Cedric Green, and Mark Mitchell.

Shea will be carried to his home, 296 Oakland Rd., Union, Thursday, February 14, 2008, where the family will receive friends any time after 1:00 PM and he will be place in the chapel Friday at 2:00 PM to await the hour of service.

John E. Voiselle, III
Union, S.C.

Mr. John E. "Johnny" Voiselle, III, age 54 of 133 Country Rd. Ext. Union, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Voiselle was born in Union, Feb. 26, 1953 a son of Lucille Miller Voiselle of Buffalo and the late John Edwin Voiselle, Jr. He was a 1971 graduate of Union High School and was a member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mr. Voiselle was previously employed with Torrington Co. and had served as a public safety officer with the City of Union. He had coached basketball, baseball and football with the Union Co. Recreation Dept. and Dixie Youth Baseball. Mr. Voiselle was an avid Gamecock fan and a devoted father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a daughter: Kim Voiselle and friend Neal Burris of the home; two sons: Matthew Voiselle and wife DeAnna of Gaffney and John E. "Jay" Voiselle, IV and wife Renarda of Union; two sisters: Joan Lawson and husband Stanley and Jill Brown and husband Troy all of Buffalo; six grandchildren: Noah, Abby, Myah, Anna, Layla, and Jaylon. Mr. Voiselle was predeceased by two brothers: William Dale Voiselle and Joseph Wade Voiselle.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Mr. Donald Lee Bradburn, age 55 of 107 Immanuel Church Rd., Shelby, NC, widower of Barbara McDaniels Bradburn died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby, NC. Mr. Bradburn was formerly of Union.

Mr. Bradburn was born in Union, SC November 19, 1952, a son of the late George Bradburn and Oby Lee Davis Bradburn. He attended Union High School and was formerly employed as a mechanic in an auto body shop and was also employed with Cross Roads Rescue Mission where he had traveled to Mexico doing Mission Work. Mr. Bradburn was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Surviving are four daughters: Shannon Southard of Jonesville, Susan "Angel" Foster of Union, Judy Daniels of Spartanburg and Jennifer Christian of Cherryville, NC; two sisters: Linda Horne of Union and Debbie McFalls of Mooresboro, NC; three brothers: Marvin Bradburn and Everette Bradburn both of Jonesville and Frankie Bradburn of Shelby and fourteen grandchildren. Mr. Bradburn was predeceased by a sister, Jenny Owens and three brothers, Otis Bradburn, J.R. Bradburn and James Floyd "Donnie" Bradburn.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, February 18, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park, Shelby, NC.

Nell Lawter Gosnell
Union, SC

Mrs. Nell Lawter Gosnell, age 84, of Hillcrest Drive Union, SC, widow of Durham Gosnell died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Gosnell was formerly a resident of Tryon, NC.

Mrs. Gosnell was born in Saluda, NC, July 29, 1923, a daughter of the late Gaither Lawter and Charlotte "Lottie" Parris Lawter. She attended Saluda High School, Saluda, NC and was formerly employed in textiles. Mrs. Gosnell was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was a member of Ann Hinkle Sunday School Class. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Walker and husband Charles of Union; a son, Ray Stewart and wife Joanne of Loudon, TN; five grandchildren: Brian Walker and wife Marisa, Scott Walker and wife Tammy, Pam Snow and husband Chuck, Kevin Stewart and Kim Hedelund and husband Donald; six great-grandchildren: Michael Walker, Carli Walker, Heath Walker, Kaitlyn Hedelund, Brandon Hedelund and Lauryn Hedelund. Mrs. Gosnell was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers: Minnie Huggins, Earlene Gordon, Louise Feagan, Jessie Bishop, Pearl Eckerd, Rudolph Lawter, Boyd Lawter and Ray Lawter.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC.

Active pallbearers will be Brian Walker, Scott Walker, Michael Walker and Heath Walker. Members of Ann Hinkle Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the service.

Jesse Ham, Jr.

Mr. Jesse Ham, Jr. age 71, husband of 50 years of Hallie Jean O’Shields Ham of 118 Park St., Union, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ham was born in Union, May 6, 1936 a son of the late Jesse Ham, Sr. and Anna Martin Ham. He was a 1954 graduate of Union High School and retired from Torrington Co.. Mr. Ham was also a retired minister with the Church of Christ and was currently working with the Union Co. Council on Aging. He was a member of the Union Church of Christ where he served as Deacon and Song Leader.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Ginger H. Gregory and husband Bobby Dale and Patty H. Gault all of Union; one brother: Gary Hamm and wife Jerry of Union; five grandchildren: Daniel Robert Gregory, David Cameron Gregory, Adam Colby Gregory, Jessica Deanne Gault and William Samuel Sexton. Mr. Ham was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Ray Ham.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at the Union Church of Christ conducted by Ministers Curtis Gilbert, Richard Carlson, Ted Rush and Fred Turner.

Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Hamm, Greg Hamm, Ray Ham, Chris Ham, Barry Ham, and Clarence Sanders.

The staff and clients of the Union Co. Council on Aging and Men of the Union Church of Christ are all asked to sit in a group.

Josephine B. Gibson
Lockhart, SC

Mrs. Josephine Bratton Gibson, age 86, widow of Hubert Gibson, formerly of Lockhart, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Lila Doyle Nursing Facility in Seneca.

Mrs. Gibson was born in the Bentleytown community of Union Co., Sept. 30, 1921, a daughter of the late James and Addie Gregory Bratton. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and Cecil’s Business College. Mrs. Gibson was retired from Milliken Co., Lockhart Plant and was a member of the Lockhart First Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a grandson: James H. Gibson, III of Atlanta, GA; a daughter-in-law: Peggy Gibson Kelper and husband Richard of Sececa. Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by a son, James H. "Jimmy" Gibson; a sister, Sarah Azalee Bratton; and three brothers, Horace, R.G., and Roy Bratton.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ben Hill. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Carrie G. Gregory

Mrs. Carrie Louise Gist Gregory, age 88, widow of Walter Lee Gregory, formerly of the West Springs community, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at Oakmont Nursing Center after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Gregory was born in West Spring, June 6, 1919, a daughter of the late Ben H. And Myrtle Lawson Gist. He was a retired clerk from the doctors offfices of Fleming, Fleming and Fuller and was an active member of Bogansville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gregory was a member of the Mary Sue Keith Sunday School Class and a member of the Joy Group at Bogansville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sisters: Fannie Ruth G. Hyatt and Mildred G. Bogan both of West Springs; a brother-in-law: Louie Hyatt of West Springs and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by two sisters, Agnes M. Adams and Erlene G. Hyatt.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Gary Peterson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ben Hyatt, Roger Hyatt, Wayne Henderson, Rodney Bogan, Billy Lawson, and Ronnie Lawson.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McCannon Wix, age 87 of 1397 Meansville Road, Union, SC, widow of Leroy Wix died Sunday, February 17, 2008 at her home.

Mrs. Wix was born in Comer, Ga May 1, 1920, a daughter of the late E.C. McCannon and Hattie Sue Paul McCannon. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Larry W. Wix and wife Beth C. of Peachtree City, Ga; a granddaughter, Lori and David Millican and three great-grandsons. Mrs. Wix was predeceased by a son, Bobby K. Wix.

Graveside services will held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Dr. Aulbrey Calvert.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Linda Sue Phipps Gallardo, age 53, wife of Agustin Gallardo of 2605 S. Ocean Blvd, Room 402, Myrtle Beach, SC died suddenly Saturday, Feburary 16, 2008 at the Grandstrand Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Gallardo was born in Clinton, SC September 8, 1954, a daughter of the late Floyd Millard Phipps, Sr and Betty Jean Shetley Phipps.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Marie Patterson and husband Jerry and Terri Lynn Walters all of Gaffney; two sons: Billy Ruyans of Florida and Jerry Ruyans of Gaffney; two sisters: Teresa Ann Crowe and Patsy Lee both of Gaffney; two brothers: Floyd M. Phipps, Jr of Gaffney and Thomas Phipps of Myrtle Beach and four grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook.

Mr. Bobby Lee White, age 74 of the Ottaray Community, Union, SC died Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Richland Palmetto Health Center in Columbia, SC.

Mr. White was born in Union, SC July 12, 1933, a son of the late Robert White and Rittie Neal White. He was formerly employed with United Merchants- Buffalo Plant and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. White was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are a brother, Donald White of Union and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Thursday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.

Leslie E. Kingsmore
Buffalo, SC

Mr. Leslie Eugene Kingsmore, age 90, widower of Frances Riddle Kingsmore of 1611 Main St. Buffalo, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Kingsmore was born in Union Co., June 5, 1917 a son of the late Edward and Effie Miller Kingsmore. He retired as an insurance agent and had previously worked with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. Mr. Kingsmore played and was manager of the textile league baseball team of Buffalo Mill and had coached the Buffalo American Legion Team and the first Buffalo Little League Baseball team. He worked with the Union County Recreation Department to establish Buffalo Community Playground.

Mr. Kingsmore was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he faithfully served the church as Minister of Music for many years, as a Sunday School teacher, as a Deacon, Choir Member and Director of Sunday Schools. He also served as Church Historian. Mr. Kingsmore was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post #87 and was a Mason. He was honored by being named Veteran of the Year and was named Grand Marshall of the Union Veterans Day Parade in November 2007. He also raised and loved Beagles.

The last surviving member of his immediate family, he is survived by three daughters: Charlotte Parks of Union, Sybil Blackwell and husband Phil of Greenville and Susan Pegram and husband Gary of Buffalo, ten grandchildren: Holly and Jay Coffer, Jill and Stacy Jones, Jeffrey and Julie Pegram, April and Darin McMakin, John and Amanda Kingsmore, Jennifer and Don Raye Shetley, Victor and Elizabeth Kingsmore, Alice and Rod Turnage, Leslie and Robbie Pridemore and Lee and Brian Treadway; twenty-three great-grandchildren. Mr. Kingsmore was predeceased by a son, John Leslie Kingsmore, Sr and an infant daughter, Kaye Frances Kingsmore.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Steve Lemons and the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Putman Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

The following grandsons will serve as active pallbearers: John Kingsmore, Victor Kingsmore, Jeffrey Pegram, Jay Coffer, Darin McMakin, Rod Turnage, Brian Treadway, Don Raye Shetley, Stacey Jones and Robbie Pridemore. Members of the American Legion Post #87 are asked to sit in a group.

Mr. James A. "Gator" Smith, age 87 of 241 Harris Street, Jonesville, SC, widow of Marie Shehan Smith went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Spartanburg Restorative Care, Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Smith was born in Old Fort, NC June 6, 1920, a son of the late Roscoe Smith and Martha McFalls Smith. He was a retired construction worker and was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II serving in thirteen major battles aboard the USS Hancock.

Surviving are a daughter, Sara Winstead of Pacolet; a son, William R. "Bill" Smith of Pelzer; a sister, Ruth McCutcheon of Kings Mountain, NC; a brother, Issac Smith of Jonesville; seven grandchildren: Angela Ashmore and her grandson Gage Ward of the home, Jimmy Smith and fiancee Cindy Pelham, Kathy Gallman and husband Jimmy Wayne, Denise Hodges and husband Rev. Jonathan Hodges, Todd Winstead and wife Sharon, Jeff Smith and wife Stephanie and Josh Smith and wife Christy; thirteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was predeceased by a son, James Lewis Smith, Sr, a brother, J.D. Smith and a sister, Pauline Lipsey.

Mrs. Georgine E. Glass, age 72, widow of Donald E. Glass, of 541 Bobby Faucette Rd., Jonesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 at Regional Hospice Home of Spartanburg after a long illness.

Mrs. Glass was born in Garmish, Germany, Jan. 27, 1936. She was retired from Milliken Co., Gillespie Plant and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where she taught the Senior Adult Sunday School class and was a member of the choir.

Surviving are two sons: Roy Glass and wife Sharon of Union and Mark Glass of the home; two grandchildren: Sam and Lane Glass.

John Lewis Greer

Mr. John Lewis Greer, age 80, of 636 Sardis Road, Union, SC, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at his home. Mr. Greer was the widower of Betty Jo Bailey Greer.

Mr. Greer was born in Union, SC May 1, 1927, a son of the late James Greer and Sallie Edwards Greer. He was a graduate of Union High School, and attended Wofford College. A US Army Veteran of WWII, he was a Military Chauffeur during the occupation of Japan. After the war Mr. Greer returned to Union County where he worked as an agent for Liberty Life Insurance Company.

Mr. Greer, a public servant and masterful politician, was elected Union County Supervisor, a position he held for 16 years. During this time he served as a president of the SC Association of Counties. Following his retirement from public office, he pursued his life long passion as a Cattle Farmer and owned Sedalia Farms.

Mr. Greer was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church where he taught the Ladies’ Sunday School Class and was actively involved in church fellowship. A civic and community leader, Mr. Greer was a member of Union Masonic Lodge #75, a member of Soil and Water Conservation Board, Union County Cattleman’s Association, and an Emeritus Board Member of the Salvation Army. He was a past District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award.

Surviving are a daughter, and her husband, Kay G. and Randy Wilburn of Union; a grandson, John Logan Sarvis Greer of Union; two brothers, and their wives, Paul and Margareet C. Greer and Hubert and Linda Greer; a sister-in-law, Julia Greer; and a special family friend, Sandra Fincher all of Union. Mr. Greer was pre-deceased by four brothers: Russell Greer, Ed Greer, Sr., Earl Greer, and Manley Greer; and three sisters: Nina Wilson, Lena Ivey, and Margaret Moore.

Graveside serves will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by his nephew, the Rev. Jim Ivey and the Rev. John Cribb.

Jack Charles Jenkins, age 66, husband of Susan Easler Jenkins of 487 Sims Street Whitmire, SC, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Mary Black Hospital.

Mr. Jenkins was born in Rutherfordton, NC., April 13, 1941 he was the son of the late George L. Jenkins and Lillie Mae Hanes Jenkins. He was a member of Central Ave. Baptist Church and Dairy Farmer.

Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Sandy Lee of Jonesville; Sara Wallace of Newberry; Ilene Means of Spartanburg; a stepson and his wife, Todd and Kerry Johnson of Whitmire; a brother, William "Wilbur" Jenkins of Union; a sister, Betty Chetum, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Moss was born in Union, May 7, 1934, a son of the late Fred Moss, Sr. and Mattie Cody. He was a textile worker, and a member of Greater Union Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Debra Morris of Union; two sisters, Dora Lanier of Union; and Louis Wells of Greenville; two grandsons, Ivan, and Eric Morris; a special granddaughter reared in the home, Skylen Morris; and several special cousins, nieces and nephews . Mr. Moss was pre-deceased by two daughters, one son, one great-grand son, two sisters, and four brothers.

Mr. Moss was born in Jonesville, August 20, 1924, a son of the late John Henry Moss and Maude Elizabeth Childers Moss. He retired from Milliken Co., Monarch Plant and had previously worked from Spectra Colorants and Carlisle Finishing, Cone Mill. Mr. Moss was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church and the Jimmy Smith Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Rebecca Moss Moore of Lexington and Kirsten Deloris Moss Graham of Clearmont, FL; four sons: Stephen Michael Moss of Jacksonville, FL, Charles Aaron Moss, Jr. of Tampa FL, Christopher Brion Moss of Trinity, NC and Robert Anthony Moss of Dayton, OH; two step-daughters: Janet P. Lawson and Renee Arthur both of Union; a brother: John Henry Moss, Jr. of Cupertine, CA; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Mr. Quinn was born in Union, March 4, 1949, a son of Roy J. Quinn of Union and the late Ruth O’Shields Quinn. He was a graduate of Union High School and Limestone College. Mr Quinn was a 2006 inductee to the Union High School Football Hall of Fame. He was a former social worker with the Charles Lea Center in Spartanburg and was a volunteer with the Union Co. Relay for Life Team for the American Cancer Society. Mr. Quinn was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Mrs. Elliott was born in Union County, SC April 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Eunice Coleman. She retired from United Merchants - Buffalo Plant and was of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. Elliott was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are four nephews reared in the home: Barry Smith of Austin, TX, Roger D. Bishop of Union, Richard Smith of Hopkins, SC and Neal Elliott of Buffalo and also other nieces and nephews: Joey Elliott, Wayne Bishop, Cathy B. Patrick, Lee Ann Grant and Beth Mattison; a grandson, Bruce Smith; special sousins: Wilma J. Brawley, Johnni Goodrich and Fred Kirby, Jr and devoted friends: Chick and Kay LaPierre, Greg, Randi, Ashley, J.R. and Kaleigh LaPierre, Paul, Priscilla and Katherine Martin.
