Richard Walton Landrum, Sr.

Mr. Richard Walton Landrum, Sr age 60, husband of Mavis Thompson Landrum of 214 C. Street, Jonesville, SC died Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Dorm V.A. Medical Center, Columbia, SC.

Mr. Landrum was born in Ashland, KY June 5, 1947, a son of the late Benjamin Landrum and Juanita Jackson Landrum. He was a graduate of Landrum High School and was employed with Dynamic Reproducers in Spartanburg. Mr. Landrum was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons: Richard Landrum and wife Deana of Reidville, SC, Christopher Landrum of Manning, SC, Dwayne Thompson and wife April and Bobby Gunter all of Jonesville; five grandchildren: Gavin Landrum of Reidville, Christopher Landrum, Jr of Manning, Tyler Thompson, Brandon Thompson and Madson Thompson all of Jonesville; a sister, Becky Landrum of Charlotte, NC and a brother, Joseph Landrum of Elberton, Ga.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday evening in the chapel prior to the service.

The family is at the home of his son, Dwayne and April Thompson, 1427 West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, SC 29353.

Scott A. Brown
Union, S.C.

Mr. Scott A. Brown, age 43, of 220 Williford Rd., Union, died at his home after a brief illness.

Mr. Brown was born in Dunning, FL, November 2, 1964 a son of Cecil A. Brown, Jr. and Connie Sumner Brown of Union. He was a graduate of Union High School and was employed with Smith’s Bakery as a supervisor. Mr. Brown was a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Union Unit and a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He loved fishing and mud bogging.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters: Nikki Brown Hill and Katilyn Brown both of Union; one niece: Jessie Gibbs of Union and his two loving boxers.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Eddie Saxon and Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 5:00 PM Thursday prior to the service at the church.

The family is at the home of his parents, Cecil and Connie Brown, 1641 Monarch Hwy., Union, SC, 29379.

Margaret D. Gowan
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Margaret Davis Gowan, age 93, widow of Reid Gowan, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Oakmont Nursing Home after a long illness.

Mrs. Gowan was born in Spartanburg, August 19, 1914, a daughter of the late Guy and Lilia Gregory Davis. She was a graduate of West Springs High School and was retired from Milliken Co., Monarch Plant. Mrs. Gowan was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a sister: Thelma D. Farner and a brother, Marvin Davis both of Union; three grandsons: Jason Proctor, Michael Proctor and Robbie Proctor all of Union and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gowan was predeceased by two sons, Tommy Proctor and Ralph Proctor; three sisters: Guynell Davis, Ruth D. Davis and Mabel D. Gist; and three brothers: Joe Davis, Bernard Davis and Ken Davis.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after the services in the church Fellowship Hall.

Memorials may be made to Bogansville United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, 4052 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, SC, 29353.

Jeanette B. Maness
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Jeanette Baldwin Maness, age 91, widow of James Wilbur Maness, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Maness was born in Union, November 8, 1916, a daughter of the late John and Molly Millwood Baldwin. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Maness was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son: James D. Maness of Union; 5 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Malmborg.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 6, 2008 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Tommy McManess.

The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.

Alsie Farr Inman
Union, SC

Mrs. Alsie Farr Inman, age 89, resident of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home, formerly of 104 Wedgewood Court, Union, SC died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Inman was the widow of Daniel S. Inman.

Mrs. Inman was born in Union County, SC November 21, 1918, a daughter of the late David Farr and Minnie Farr Alman. She was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Inman was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Dianne Inman Horne of Union; a son, Danny Farr Inman of Charlotte; two grandchildren: Toni Horne and Derrick Horne both of Union; a special great-grandson, William Horne, II of Union and special friends, Acy and Evelyn Walker of Union.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Tommy Bailey.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Hazel H. Willard

Mrs. Hazel Hutcherson Willard, age 85, of 206 East South St., Union, widow of George Tillman Willard, died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Willard was born in Union, June 26, 1922, a daughter of the late Oscar and Mae Howell Hutcherson. She was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant and had previously worked with Clinton Mill. Mrs. Willard was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Martha Chapter #75.

Surviving are a grandson with whom she made her home: Jerry Willard and wife Jeanne of Union; a granddaughter: Heather Stepp and husband Joey of Union; three great-grandchildren: Bailey Willard, Andrew Willard and Casey Stepp all of Union; two sisters: Virginia Toney and Sarah Riggs both of Union; a brother: Henry Hutcherson of Gurnee, IL. Mrs. Willard was predeceased by a son: Jerry A. Willard, Sr.; three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. John Lee. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Wayne Hutcherson, Cecil Hutcherson, Bobby Toney, Dennis Hutcherson, Chris Kirby and Frank Burnett.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM tonight at the funeral home.

Jackie Garrett

Ms. Jackie Lynn Garrett, age 51, of 221 E. Main St., Union, died Friday, June 6, 2008 after an extended illness.

Ms. Garrett was born in Union, June 30, 1956, a daughter of the late Otis Dean Byrd and Minnie Pearl Bates Fowler. She had previously employed as a nurses aid working with the elderly and was a member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Church of Pacolet.

Surviving are a son: Dwayne Byrd of Charleston, SC; four sisters: Wendy Fowler, Debra Coats, Elizabeth Fowler and Lisa Fowler all of Union; three brothers: Bill Bates of Gastonia, NC, Tommy Bright of GA, and Mike Fowler of Union; special friends: Joyce Zavala and Anna Jefferies of Union; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ms. Garrett was predeceased by a sister: Janie Sinclair and a brother: Jerry Byrd.

The family is at the home of her sister, Wendy Fowler, 202 N. Gadberry St., Apt. 106, Union and at the home of her sister, Lisa Fowler, 112 Fifth St., Union.

Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Scott Spencer.

Earle Atkinson
Union, S.C.

Mr. Earle Atkinson, age 81, husband of Betty Waldrop Atkinson, of 1571 Kelly Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 6, 2008 after an extended illness.

Mr. Atkinson was born in Union, February 15, 1927, a son of the late Herbert "Red" Atkinson and Bertha Eaves Atkinson. He was a graduate of Union High School and a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. Mr. Atkinson was formerly employed with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was retired as a greeter with Wal-Mart in Union. A mason for over 50 years, he had served as a Past Master of the Mt. Joy Lodge # 203 and was a member of the American Legion Post # 22. Mr. Atkinson was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church were he was a member of the A.G. Carter Sunday School Class and was a past Trustee of the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son: Jeff Atkinson and wife Donna of Union; two sisters: Shirley Atkinson of Pensacola, FL and Frances Bunch and husband Jerry of Summerville; one brother: Jerry Atkinson of Union; a sister-in-law: Marie Atkinson of Union; a brother-in-law: Jack Hogan of Anderson; two grandchildren, who where the light of his life: Kelli Atkinson and Trent Atkinson of Union. Mr. Atkinson was predeceased by a sister, Edna Hogan and a brother, Donald Atkinson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 9, 2008 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Keith Sweat and Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Davis, David Becknell, Ben Franklin, Robbie Littlejohn, Jim Heatherly, Floyd Heatherly, Ken McCraw and Ken Horne.

Olin D. Knox
Former Reeves Brothers Employee

Mr. Olin D. Knox, age 73 of 406 Sims Avenue, Union, SC died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Arletta S. Knox.

Mr. Knox was born in Union, SC September 8, 1934, a son of the late Gettes Knox and Daisy Knox Williams. Olin was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He also taught Sunday School at DJJ Prison and the Union County Jail and was also a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and retired from Reeves Brothers of Woodruff.

As a faithful servant to the Lord, he is survived by a son, Steve Knox, a daughter, Tammie Schumpert both of Union; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild, two sisters: Shirley Brannon and Naomi Bates both of Union; a half-sister, Brenda Shetley; a half-brother, Claudi Williams both of Union.

Visitation will be held 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the Fairforest Baptist Church located at 1917 Jonesville Hwy, Union. Following visitation a Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM conducted by Dr. Aulbrey Calvert. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Black, Todd Haire, Jeff Littlejohn, Calvin Smith and Gene Becknell.

Lloyd Lawson
Union, SC

Mr. Lloyd Franklin Lawson age 75, husband of Frances Sanders Lawson of 697 Vanderford Rd. Union went home to be with the Lord after a tough battle with cancer. He was lovingly surrounded by his family and friends.

Mr. Lawson was born in Union, August 17, 1932, a son of the late James "Slim" Lawson and Sarah Vaughan Lawson. He was owner of L & L Garage and a member of Philippi Baptist Church. A devoted Christian who loved the Lord and served him faithfully, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and special friend to all.

Mr. Lawson was an avid race car driver and fan, from dirt track to Daytona. He and his wife of 54 years rode in one of Union’s first Harley Davidson Motorcycle Clubs. Mr. Lawson was an active member of the Show-n-Shine Cruisers, the Union Co. Motorsports Club and the Independent Garage Association. He was a gifted mechanic who specialized in Volkswagons and known as the "V.W. Man" or "Light Foot Lawson". Mr. Lawson was a former president of the Open Hand C.B. Club, Minute Men Rescue Team, and a former Fire Chief of Philippi Fire Dept.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Susan Fowler and special friend Kenneth George and Donna Hooper and husband Mike; two sons: Michael Sanders and wife Alice and Joe "Toe Joe" Sanders; eight grandchildren: Kristie Fowler, Chad Hooper and wife Dawn, Tara Fowler and special friend Shawn Peace, Misty Fink and husband Shawn, Shannon Sanders and wife Angie, Michael E. Sanders and wife Ashley, April Lawson and husband Mark and Jimmy Jenkins; fourteen great-grandchildren: Gage Sanders, reared in the home, Carsin Bannister, Devin Ivey, Shawn Peace, Caylee Lawson, Kaden Lawson, Jordan Hooper, Garrison Hooper, Dylan Sanders, Destiny Sanders, Hailey Sanders, Austin Hughes, Ashton Hughes and Matthew Sanders; three brothers: Joe G. Lawson and wife Susan, Donald "Ducky" Lawson and wife Ellen and John R. Lawson and wife Ruth; four sisters: Sarah Childers and husband Paul, Ann Patrick and husband Carl, Jean Harvey and husband Ken and Patricia "Trick" Vanderford; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law reared in the home: Eugene Holcombe and wife Willie, Brenda Beheler, Claudia Carroll and husband Coleman, Joyce Moody, Wayne Grady and wife Mary Ann and Steve Grady. Mr. Lawson was predeceased by three brothers: Pete Lawson, Cotton Lawson and Fred Lawson, a sister Elizabeth "Peanut" Ridgeway and a great-grandson, Timothy M. Lawson, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 13, 2008 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale, Rev. Bob Lawson and Rev. Wayne Taylor. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Archuletta, Mark Inman, Heath Ward, Tim DeHart, Bruce Bobo, Wayne Garner, Eddie Wayne Davis and Sammy Smith. Ruby Reynolds O’Dell
Jonesville, S.C.

Mrs. Ruby Reynold O’Dell, age 88, widow of George Boyd O’Dell of 411 B St., Jonesville, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at her home.

Mrs. O’Dell was born in Jonesville, September 26, 1919, a daughter of the late Robert and Ella Minton Reynolds. She was retired from J.P. Stevens of Jonesville and Conso Products of Union. Mrs. O’Dell was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are four daughters: Delores Hill, Louise Rider and Marie Trammell all of Jonesville and Brenda Nations of Pauline; one son: Kenneth Reynolds of Pauline; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. O’Dell was predeceased by a grandchild: Ricky Reynolds; a sister: Lula Mae Moss and two brothers: Lindsy Reynolds and Gene Reynolds.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 13, 2008 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown.

Active pallbearers will be John Hill, Allen Rider, Kelly O’Dell, Gregg Sanford, Mike Walker, Lonnie Riffey, Jimmy Moss and Ray Moss.

Visitation will be held tonight from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home in Union.

Joseph Michael Hulon
Union, SC

Mr. Joseph Michael "Mike" Hulon, age 53 of 524 Lakeview Heights, Union, SC died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Hulon was born in Union, SC October 25, 1954, the son of Ann Gault Hulon of Union and the late Joseph B. Hulon. He was a 1972 graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Hulon was previously employed with Milliken & Co - Cedar Hill Plant and was a self-employed electrician. He was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a daughter, Coco Harris and fiancee Edward Inman; two grandchildren: Kayleigh Harris and Caden Inman all of Union; former wife and very special friend, Cindy Vaughan Hulon of Union; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and a special friend, Lisa Duncan.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Tommy Bailey and Rev. Gary Byrd.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Friday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Harold Estes Blackwell
Union, SC

Mr. Harold Estes Blackwell, age 77, husband of Dee Vowan Blackwell of 315 Glendale Road, Union, S.C. died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the National Health Care Center in Laurens.

Mr. Blackwell was born in Gaffney, South Carolina, August 27, 1930. He was the son of Coy Fletcher Blackwell and Callie Hawkins Blackwell. He retired after 39 years of service an executive with Milliken & Co. After graduating from Clemson University 1953 with a BS in textile technology, he entered the U.S. Army serving with 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas.

Mr. Blackwell was member of First Presbyterian Church in Union where he formerly served as deacon. He was a 51 year member of IPTAY and served as a Union County representative for many years. Mr. Blackwell also served on the Broad River Scenic Council.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mary Virginia Blackwell of Union, a son, Harold E. Blackwell, Jr. of Spartanburg, two grandchildren Victoria Vowan Blackwell and Claire Elizabeth Blackwell of Spartanburg, SC. Mr. Blackwell was predeceased by a sister Carolyn Blackwell Law.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Union beginning at 11 am. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

The family is at 315 Glendale Road in Union.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers the family ask that gifts be made to the renovation Fund at the First Presbyterian Church in Union.

Mr. J.E. Moss, age 66 of 214B Gault Avenue, Union, SC died Monday, June 16, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Moss was born in Blacksburg, SC September 15, 1941, a son of the late Olson Charles Moss and Louise Harvey Moss. He retired from United Merchants - Buffalo Plant.

Surviving are a two daughters: Linda Lewis of Pacolet and Tammy Blackwell of Gaffney; a son, Michael Crowder of Pacolet; two sisters: Deborah Lane and husband Tommy of Union and Shirley Moss of Blacksburg; a brother, Jerry Wayne Moss of Union and five grandchildren. Mr. Moss was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Murphy and Martha Fowler and a brother, Larry Moss.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

The family is at the home of his sister, Deborah and Tommy Lane, 733 Wilson Road, Union, SC 29379.

Forest Hodge
Formerly of Jonesville

Mr. Forest Hodge, age 94, formerly of 301 Bobby Faucett Road, Jonesville, SC, widower of Bertha White Hodge died Monday, June 16, 2008.

Mr. Hodge was born in Cherokee County, SC August 22, 1913, a son of the late James "Jim" T. Hodge and Mary Gibson Hodge. He retired from J.P. Stevens - Jonesville Plant and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. Mr. Hodge was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church, a former member of the Jonesville Prudence Lodge # 139 and a farmer.

Surviving are two sons: Jimmy Hodge and wife Libby of Pacolet and Stanley Hodge and wife Carolyn of Jonesville; a granddaughter, Amanda Youngblood and husband Chris of Easley;and two great-grandchildren: Edie Youngblood and Ava Youngblood both of Easley. Mr. Hodge was predeceased by five sisters: Lillie H. Hopper, Katie H. Garner, Bessie H. Vaughn, Nell H. Gregory and Polly H. Harvey and four brothers: Sam, Dee, Ollie and Jack Hodge.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Jonesville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Gilmer and Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Gregory, Kenneth Gregory, Faye White, Buddy Vaughn, James Gregory and Mark Sanders. The following are asked to sit in a group: Mr. Hodge’s nephews, the special caregivers and staff of Oakmont Nursing Home, the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class and the members of the Prudence Lodge #139.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 PM Wednesday in the church prior to the service.

Larry Lee Dixson, Sr.

Mr. Larry Lee Dixson, Sr., age 34, husband of Melanie A. Dixson, of 1038 Neal Shoals Rd., Union, died at his home, Friday, June 20, 2008.

Mr. Dixson was born in Kansas City, KS, July 21, 1973, a son of Robin Tooley of Mountain Grove, MO and Larry Eugene Dixson of Kansas City, KS. He was a graduate of high school in Kansas City and had attended the S.C. Fire Academy and S.C. Police Academy. Mr. Dixson was employed with Union Co. Sheriff’s Dept. as a jailer. He was a volunteer fireman for 18 years having worked with the Monarch, Kelly-Kelton, Arkwright and Philippi Fire Depts. A dedicated fireman, he had competed in several combat challenges throughout his career. Mr. Dixson was a devoted father, husband and friend.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Tosha Dixson and Lyric Dixson; four sons: Jason Heffington, Michael Martin Dixson, Larry Lee Dixson, Jr. and Storm Dixson; four sisters and 2 brothers and his in-laws: Tom and Donnis Taylor.

Graveside services will be held 5:00 PM Monday, June 23, 2008 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook.

Active pallbearers will be his fellow firemen.

Visitation will be held Monday from 3:30 until 4:45 PM at the funeral home prior to the services.

Patricia Berry Winburn
Union, SC

Mrs. Patricia Berry Winburn, age 68, of 108 Douglass Heights Union, widow of James C. Winburn died Wednesday June 25, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.

Mrs. Winburn was Newberry County December 23, 1939, a daughter of the late W.Y and Verna Mae Heller Berry. She was a graduate of Union High School and The University of South Carolina. Mrs. Winburn was a retired school teacher with the Union County school system having taught at Foster Park and Excelsior Middle School for 25 yrs. . She was member of the Pi Delta Kappa National Honor Fraternity, The National Educators Association, and the South Carolina Educators Association. Mrs. Winburn was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church and was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter: Audrey W. Lancaster and husband Tommy of Buffalo; a son: Kirk Winburn and wife Kathy of Rockhill; a sister: Dorothy Humphries and husband Tommy of Union; two granddaughter: Kristen Winburn and Kara Winburn. Mrs. Winburn was predeceased by a sister: Violet F. Berry.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday June 29, 2008 at Augsburg Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Carroll Robinson and Rev. Carlene Carlson-Cassem. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Craig, Darryl Palmer, Richard Stanley Humphries, John Clayton, Jr., David Clayton, Travis Winburn, and Wesley Brumbles.

The following are asked to assemble at the church at 1:45 PM Sunday, to form the honorary escort: Mrs. Winburn’s Nephews, Dr. Jeffery Craft, Dr. David Keith, Oakmont Physical Therapy Dept. and D Wing nurses and staff, Upstate Lung and Critical Care Specialist, Wallace Thomson Hospital staff of ICU, 1st Floor, 3rd Floor, ER and Mark Reynolds, Cardiology associates, PA and faculty and staff of Excelsior Middle School and Foster Park Elementary School.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Hause DePratte

Elizabeth Hause DePratter, age 78, formerly of Union died June 25, 2008 in Buncomb County NC .

Mrs. DePratter was born in Union, SC January 13, 1930 the daughter of the late Henry Oliver and Jewel Gordon Hause. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. DePratter was survived by three daughters: Paula Jones Garland of Jonesville, Bonny Jones Nesbitt of Fairview, NC., and Tara Henderson of Union; a son: Fred DePratter of Gaffney; a sister: Mary Jo Yacko of Union; a son-in-law: Rex Lee Boyd Sr. of Sumter, SC.; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter: Dona Jones Boyd and a brother: Henry Oliver Hauser, Jr.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Bethel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Terry Mitchell.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church prior to the service.

Katherine Gregory Jones
Spartanburg, SC

Mrs. Katherine Gregory Jones, age 82, of 624 Avon Dr. Spartanburg widow of Coy L. Jones died Tuesday, June 24, 2008.

Mrs. Jones was born in Union, SC November 8, 1925 a daughter of the late Philo Edwin and Agnes Barker Gregory. She was a member of The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Union. She was predeceased by two children: Patricia Heaton and Coy Franklin Jones and a sister: Betty Pridemore.

Mrs. Jones is survived by a daughter: Brenda Jones of the home; two sisters: Janelle Bagwell of Greenville, and Carol King of Simpsonville; three brothers: Edwin Gregory of Greenville, Francis Gregory of Easley, and Dennis Gregory of Townsville; eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Chapel in Union conducted by Pastor Bill Strong. Burial will be at Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Nell Long
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Nell R. Patrick Long, age 92, widow of George G. Long, Sr., died Friday, June 27, 2008 at Oakmont Nursing Home after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Long was born in Washington, Co., VA, April 19, 1916 a daughter of the late Christopher Patrick and Elizabeth Cyphers Patrick. She was retired from Belk Dept. Store and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four daughters: Betty Allen, Barbara Thomas, Patricia Pies and Judy Edwards; two sons: Charles Long and wife Betty and George Long, Jr.; one sisters: Hazel Moore; a granddaughter: Dena Meador and husband Judson; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Long was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Stallard and a son, James Long.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 at Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, VA conducted by the Farris Funeral Home.

Paul Gene Kirby
Union, SC

Mr. Paul Gene Kirby, age 79, son of Paul Eugene and Ruby Hearst Kirby, passed away at his home in Union on June 26, 2008 after a brief illness. Preceding Gene in death was his loving wife of 55 years, June Chesser Kirby. He is survived by his son, Michael Gene Kirby and his wife Gail of Smyrna, SC, his daughter Teresa Kirby Hodge and her husband Robby of Belmont, NC, and his youngest daughter, Mary Ann Kirby Neal and her husband Bobby of Rock Hill, SC. Also surviving are four grand-children, Ashley Gene Kirby of Charleston, SC., Kimberly Anne Kirby of Brooklyn, NY., Robert William Neal II and Patrick Kirby Neal of Rock Hill, SC. He is also survived by a brother Alvin A. Kirby of Emmett, Idaho and a sister Connie Kirby Faucett of North Augusta, GA.

Mr. Kirby was the owner of Union Wholesale Tire Co. and was involved in numerous businesses in the area. He was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church and was a Shriner, a Mason, and an Elk. He was a Veteran of the US Navy.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 30, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Chapel. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home, and also at other times at the home, 613 S. Pinckney St. Union, SC. 29379.
