Brenda D. Webb

Ms. Brenda Davis Webb, age 60, of 1470 Peach Orchard Road Union, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at her home.

Ms. Webb was born in Union, SC July 1, 1949, a daughter of Grace Moss Davis and the late Leroy Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.

Survivors are a sister: Patricia Bridges of Gray Court; two brothers: Wayne Martin and wife Rosanna of the home; and Bill Davis of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Ms. Webb was predeceased by a daughter: Sybil Davis and a brother: Thomas Davis.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The following are asked to be Honorary Pallbearers Clay Morris and Billy West.

Mr. William Joseph Lindsey, age 21, husband of Brittany Nicole Price Lindsey of 270 B. Cleveland Street, Pacolet, SC died suddenly Monday, April 26, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Lindsey was born in Spartanburg County, SC March 7, 1989, a son of Troy William Lindsey and Debra Lynn Goode Lindsey of Pacolet.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a daughter, Hayden and Skailer Price and Jordan Brady all of Pacolet; a sister, Jessica Ray Lindsey; two brothers: Ethan Scott Lindsey and Troy Christopher Lindsey all of Pacolet; four brothers-in-law: Dustin James Price of Pacolet, Paul Everette Price of Mayesfield, KY, Joseph Araon Price of Amity, OH and Brandon Erasal Price of Galion, OH; father-in-law, Paul and Christine Price of Ohio and Rick and Lisa Nelson of Pacolet; an aunt, Lynn Crank of Ohio; cousins: Shonda and Misty Crank of Ohio, Zatavia Maycock, Amirah and Nasir Price, Kiresten and Sirron Daley. Mr. Lindsey was predeceased by grandparents: Margaret Goode, Jerry Goode, James W. Lindsey and Loise Mills.

A memorial service will be held 7:00 PM Wednesday evening April 28, 2010 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM in the chapel prior to the service.

Carmela E. Renna
Union, SC

Ms. Carmela E. Renna of Union, SC, formerly of Waltham, MA, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Born November 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Rosie Falzone Mula. She was an employee of the Raytheon Company for nearly forty years. Ms. Renna was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Waltham, MA.

Survivors include two sons: Richard Renna and wife, Terri, of Union, SC, and Jeffrey Renna and wife, Jane, of Waltham, MA; grandchildren: Vincent Renna of Waltham, MA, Drew and Gary Ransom of Union, SC; brother, Rosario "Rusty" Mula and wife, Dorothy, of Waltham, MA; sisters: Susan Mula of Natick, MA, Josephine Mula and Mary Toohey of Hudson, MA; sister-in-law, Mrs. Carmelo (Dorothy) Mula of Waltham and many nieces and nephews. Ms. Renna was predeceased by sisters Anne Marcolina, Katherine McCue, Sally Bonica and brother Carmelo "Chuck" Mula.

Funeral services will be held in Waltham, MA.

Vera M. McAbee
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Vera Malpass McAbee, age 71, widow of Raymond Lee McAbee, of 213 Wardlaw St., Union, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at her home after along illness.

Mrs. McAbee was born in Union, October 17, 1938 a daughter of the late Thomas and Viola Wilson McAbee. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Inman Mills, Riverdale Plant. Mrs. McAbee was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters: Donna Sullivan and Julie Saxton both of Union; two brothers: Thomas Malpass Jr of Union and Dennis Ray Malpass of North East, Maryland; three grandchildren: Ashley Sullivan of the home and Joshua and Meca Norman of Union; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. David Burrell.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the graveside prior to the service.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to Piedmont Hospice of Spartanburg for their care of Mrs. McAbee.

The family will be at the home of her brother, T. J. Malpass, 139 Will Palmer Rd., Union, SC.

Carroll L. Ashe
Union, SC

Mr. Carroll L. Ashe, age 77of 355 Wesley Chapel Rd., Union, SC died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ashe was born in Union, SC October 28, 1932, a son of the late Thurmond Ashe and Onita Leonhardt Ashe. Mr. Ashe was a Veteran of the US Air Force having served his country for over twenty years which included the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mr. Ashe loved to bowl where he received many awards. He also loved to spend time drag racing with his son Lee. Mr. Ashe was formerly married to Crystal Cash.

Surviving are two sons: Allen Ashe and wife Jane of Katie, TX and Lealand Ashe and wife Vickie of Jonesville; two daughters: Denise Gillette of Michigan and Michele Laster of Lockhart; two brothers: Cameron Ashe of Laurens and Osborne Ashe of Atlanta, Ga; ten grandchildren and five and ½ great-grandchildren. Mr. Ashe was predeceased by a sister, Claudette Chaupetta.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Saturday evening at SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Margaret M. Reid
Poteau, OK

Margaret Moreau Reid, wife of the late Herbert Paul Reid of Union, passed from this Earth to her heavenly home on April12, 2010. At the time of her death, Margaret was a resident of the Poteau Retirement Center, Poteau, OK. She was born September 16, 1930 in Jackson, Mississippi, the first of four children of the late Reverend William Edward Moreau and Margaret Power Moreau. She attended schools in Fernandina Beach, FL and Jackson and French Camp, MS where she graduated from high school in 1947. Margaret graduated from Lyon College in Batesville, AK in 1951, and she attended graduate schools at Mississippi State University and the University of South Carolina. She married Mr. Reid in November 1952.

For many years, Margaret taught at Terrell's Bay High School, Centenary, SC. As a lifelong Presbyterian, she served her church in several roles, as a teacher, as an Elder, as superintendent of Sunday Schools, and as an active member of several nurture groups. Her never-wavering faith and the support of family and church gave her great strength to overcome many losses during her lifetime, beginning with the tragic death of her father when she was only six years old. She gave as much or more than she received.

After the death of her husband, Margaret joined the family of her late sister, Jane Moreau Moudy. Although she never had children of her own, she played important roles in developing the lives of young people through her teaching, care of nephews, and guardianship of James Moudy, Jane’s adopted son. She shared that duty with her great friend and loving caregiver, Joanna Moudy Anderson of Heavener, OK. James recently completed a degree at Carl Albert State College.

Margaret is survived by her brother, David Moreau and his wife Polly of Chapel Hill, NC; four sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Moreau of Jonesport, ME, Eleanor Babb of Bishopville, Tillie Reid and Virginia Smith, both of Union, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Alexander. Service were also held Friday, April 16, at First Presbyterian Church, Poteau, Oklahoma.

Eddie C. Robertson
Union, S.C.

Mr. Eddie C. Robertson, age 72, husband of Glenda Neeley Robertson of 302 Partridge Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday morning at his home.

Mr. Robertson was born in Union, February 19, 1938 a son of the late Herbert R. And Kathleen Gault Robertson. He was a graduate of Union High School and former owner of Robertson’s Enterprises and Packaging Stores. Mr. Robertson was a member of the BPO Elks, a Shriner and a mason. He was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Reggie Robertson and fiancée Tiffany Ward and Greg "Cotton" Robertson and wife Amber all of Union; a sister: Jenny R. Bryson also of Union; three grandchildren: Libby Robertson, Jake Robertson and Adaire Robertson; one great-granddaughter: Adalae Welch and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Robin Price, Eric Flemming, Robbie Blackwell, Ray Brown, Jimmy Blair and Hunter Blair.

Members of the Union BPO Elks and Shriners are asked the serve as the honorary escort.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sara Johnson Parks Medford, age 88, formerly of 403 W. South St., Union, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 at White Oak Manor in Newberry.

Mrs. Medford was born in Union, June 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Frank Arthur Johnson and Dora Dunlap Johnson. She was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker. Mrs. Medford was preceded in death by her son, Larry "Bo" Parks.

Surviving are a daughter: Judy Parks Ivey and husband Robert J. of Prosperity; a brother: Henry Johnson and wife Patsy of Union; a daughter-in-law: Charlotte K. Parks of Union; grandchildren: Relda Seress Ivey of Austin, TX, Robert J. Ivey, Jr. and wife Lynn of Irmo, Holly Parks Coffer and husband Jay of Union and Jill Parks Jones and husband Stacy of Rock Hill; and 7 great-grandchildren. The family expresses a very special and warm thank you to her nephew, L. C. Johnson.

Mrs. Betty Satterfield Shaw, age 82, wife of Charles F. "Chuck" Shaw of Union, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Shaw was born August 29, 1927 a daughter of the late Jesse and Gladys Waldrop Satterfield. A native of Union, she had resided with her husband in Clearwater FL for 41 years. Mrs. Shaw was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church and was a loving and

devoted mother and grandmother. Her quiet influence will be held in lasting remembrance by all who knew her. Even though we’ve lost her presence, her life will always be an inspiration to each of us.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Elaine Lawson and husband Billy of Putman community and Kimberly Quinn and husband Jamie of Clearwater, FL; a sister: Peggy Millsaps of Rockford, IL; a life-long friend: James E. Morris of Union; 10 grandchildren: Mark Lawson, Mia Silvers, Becky Williams, David Sanders, Amy Ford, Robbie Quinn, Jimmy Morris, Paula Morris, Amanda Quinn and Jamie Quinn; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shaw was predeceased by two daughters, Debra Gregory and Marion Sanders, a son Jimmy Morris and a grandson, Manly Morris.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Friday, April 23, 2010 a Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Gary Peterson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Richard F. Carlson (Minister)

Richard F. Carlson (Minister) age 52, husband of Carla Hounshell Carlson of 710 North Duncan By Pass, Union, SC died suddenly Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Carlson was born in Jackson, TN February 24, 1958, a son of Lavelle Jones Carlson of Almo, TN and the late Fredrick Carlson. He served for thirty years in ministry for the Church of Christ with his final service being at the Union Church of Christ. Mr. Carlson was a member of the Board of Directors of the Carolina Messenger.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Leah Carlson of Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN and a son, Adam Carlson of Elizabethton, TN.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, April 23, 2010 at Antioch Church of Christ in Ramer, TN conducted by Minister Jimmy Young and Minister Wesley Simons. Burial will be in Sulfur Springs Cemetery in Selmer, TN.

Ronald Loyd Barnett
Union, SC

Mr. Ronald Loyd "Essie Papa" Barnett, age 66 of 114 Short Street, Union, SC died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Barnett was born in Buffalo, SC January 20, 1944, a son of the late Homer Barnett, Sr and Nellie Brewington Barnett. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are two daughters: Janie Bright of Monarch and Clarissa Taylor of Middletown, CT; Dennis, Daniel and Barbara Williams all of Union; two sisters: Francis Owens and Fay Faircloth both of East Haddam, CT; a twin brother, Donald Barnett of Buffalo and three other brothers: Paul Barnett, Sr of Middletown, CT, Johnny Barnett of Clover, SC and Jerry Barnett of FL; five grandchildren: Christopher Barnett of Middletown, CT, Troy Prosser, Kalee Selim both of Monarch, Luke Barnett of Middletown, CT and Tristian Bright of Monarch; a number of beloved nieces, nephews and beloved friends, Dora Linear and Triveal Norman. Mr. Barnett was predeceased by three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Branch.

Mr. Wilmer Ryan "Crip" Lawson, age 73, of 1326 Mt. Lebanon Rd. Pauline, SC, widower of Annie Laura Lawson passed away Friday, April 16, 2010 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Lawson was born in Spartanburg County, July 27, 1936, a son of the late George and Mae Belle Simmons Lawson. He was retired from Arkwright Mills and was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Phillip Lawson and wife Melissa of Blacksburg, a daughter, Angie Beaty and husband John of Pauline, grandchildren; Cody Boulware, Justine Beaty, RJ Lawson, Chance Lawson, Kyle Lawson, Katie Lawson and Cole Lawson; brothers, Leroy Lawson and Kenneth Lawson of Spartanburg and Ronnie Lawson of Union.

Mr. Lawson was pre-deceased by 3 brothers, Marvin Lawson, Garland Lawson and Jake Lawson and 5 sisters, Louise Caraway, Virginia Messer, Eva Solesbee, Bernice Smith and Betty Sue Lawson.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Mt Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Melvin Shelton.

The family will receive friends following the committal service in the fellowship hall of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Mr. Edward Milas Koon, age 71, widower of Susan Day Koon, of 170 Proctor Rd., Jonesville, passed away, Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Koon was born in Spartanburg, November 14, 1932 a son of the late Dorothy Koon. He was retired from W.M. Kirkland and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Koon was a member of the American Rifle Association and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are four daughters: Wanda Forster and husband Ottie, whom he thought of as his son, of Gaffney, Belinda Farrow and husband Jerry of Piedmont, Jane Wiley and husband Scott and Vickie Jolley all of Spartanburg; a step-daughter: Teresa and eleven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, April 19, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. James Childers.

Active pallbearers will be Danny Bishop, Michael Koon, Scottie Koon, Jr. Thompson, Alonzo Brannon and David Bishop.

Mr. Reuben Humphries "R.H." Jolly, Jr., age 71, widower of Trudy Orr Jolly, of Brandon, Florida, died at his home surrounded by his family, March 31, 2010.

Mr. Jolly was a native of Union and a son of the late Reuben, Sr. and Lucille McGowan Jolly. He was a retired construction worker with Hess Oil Co. and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in FL and Hebron Baptist Church in Union.

Surviving are a daughter: Lisa Ryals and husband Terry of the home; a son: Mike Jolly of Newberry; four sisters: Grace Kirby and husband Harold of Crystal River, FL, Joyce Crocker and husband John of Union, Jane Miller and husband Grayson of Williamston and Nancy Shivar and husband Vernon of Rocky Point; NC; grandchildren: Tomoka Jolly of Newberry, Jason Jolly and wife Tonya of Joanna, Nikki Jolly of Brandon FL, Ryan Jolly of Newberry and Andrew Pyle of Brandon, FL; 8 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Jolly was predeceased by a son, Larry Jolly and a brother, Johnny Jolly.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Larry Padgett. Visitation will be held at the graveside following the service.

Emsile Earl Foster
Union, S.C.

Mr. Emslie Earl Fosterage 70, husband of Callie Boulware Foster, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Foster was born in Lyman, SC, May 24, 1939 a son of the late Emslie and Sybil Bobo Foster. He was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and attended Union High School. Mr. Foster owned Foster’s Building and Developing Company from which he retired.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter: Ann Fesperman of Spartanburg; two brothers: Allen and Barry Foster of Union; two grandchildren: Charlott and Chad Foster of Union.

Mr. Fred M. Rogers, Jr, age 77, husband of Betty Briggs Rogers of 317 Osborne Street, Union, SC died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg SC after a brief illness.

Mr. Rogers was born in Waynesville, NC September 26, 1932, a son of the late Fred M. Rogers, Sr and Candice Burris Rogers. He was a retired textile worker and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Rogers was a Veteran of the US Army and the US Air Force having served in the Korean Conflict.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Fred M. Rogers III and wife Becky of Union and John Phillip Rogers and wife Tammy of Georgia; a sister, Doris and husband Jack of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren; a granddaughter reared in the home, Teree Rogers and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Rogers was predeceased by twin boys.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday evening at SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sharon Jill Prince, age 49, widow of Christopher Aaron Prince of 111 Excelsior Ave., Union, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Smith-Phayer Hospice Home in Landrum.

Mrs. Prince was born in Union, December 26, 1960, a daughter of Arthur William "Bill" Craig of Jonesville and the late Vivian Reynolds Craig. She was formerly employed with Milliken Co., Cedar Hill Plant and with Inman Mills, Ramey Plant. Mrs. Prince was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her father are her step-mother: Vivian Rochester Craig of Jonesville; a daughter: Heather Bailey; a son: Zachery Niel Bailey and companion Tonya Craig all of Rock Hill; a sister: Ginger Garner and husband Ed; a brother: Neal Craig and wife Pam all of Jonesville; two grandsons: Austin Garner of Jonesville and Matthew Bailey of Pacolet; a nephew: Craig Wilkins and wife Chrissy of Jonesville.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 Pm Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Frances Dill Owensby

Mrs. Frances Dill Owensby passed peacefully into the loving and waiting arms of her Heavenly Father and her husband on Friday, April 9, 2010. Frances was predeceased by her husband of sixty-four years, Carl Edward Owensby.

Mrs. Owensby was born August 7, 1925, a daughter of the late Thom J. and Flora Kirby Dill of the Monarch community, Union, SC. She was a graduate of Union High School and was a charter member of Welcome Baptist Church- Monarch. In resent years she was a member of First Baptist Church-Enoree and First Baptist Church-Woodruff where she enjoyed and loved being involved in missions. The Owensbys lived in Union and later made their home for many years in the Enoree community of Spartanburg County.

Frances is survived by their daughter: Thomasene Owensby, 106 Peccole Pass, Moore, SC with whom she made her home until her heath began to fail in April 2009. Other survivors include a niece: Michelle Jones-Mullen and husband Bill Mullen of Spartanburg; two great-nephews: Jaron Jones and Shawn Jones of Spartanburg; two great-nieces: Tifaney Jones of Montreat, NC and Amber Mullen of Spartanburg; two beloved God-daughters: Kerri Simmons McAlister of Moore and Kristen Simmons Hunter of Tallahassee, FL; a great-niece: Kalista Jones of Spartanburg; and many other nieces and nephews. She was loved by a family friend "might as well be a daughter" Ginger Chalk of Union. Mrs. Owensby was predeceased by a half sister: Carol Kirby Mains and a nephew: Troy Mains.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening April 11, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home, 310 W. South St. Union, SC.

Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 12, 2010 at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, Woodruff, SC conducted by the Rev. Dr. Andrew Shull, pastor of First Baptist Church-Woodruff. The family will also receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

Charles E. Craven

Mr. Charles Edward Craven, age 87, of Union, widower of Alma G. Beach Craven died Friday, April 9, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Craven was born in McMinnville, TN, June 10, 1922 a son of the late Charles and Lena Belle Allison Craven. He was retired from General Motors in Michigan and was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. Mr. Craven was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Gloria Jean Craven Milne of Union; a granddaughter: Melissa E. Nance and husband Christopher of Union; a grandson: James C. Milne and wife Abigale of Spartanburg; great-grandchildren: William Christopher Nance, Alexa Nance, Aderemi Ademiley and Tolsin Ademiley. Mr. Craven was predeceaed by a sister: Lesta Craven-Dutton and five brothers: George, Gene, Monroe and Bill Craven and Wade Allison.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. John Cribb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Margaret "Dottie" Burgess McBride, age 67 of 531 Lovers Lane Rd. Union, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Regional Hospice Home of Spartanburg.

Mrs. McBride was born in York Co. SC, April 11, 1942 a daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Ramsey Burgess. She attended York High School and was retired from Spartan Mills, Rosemont Plant in Jonesville. Mrs. McBride was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in York.

Surviving are her life long companion: James O. Trammell of the home; one daughter: Missy Sumner of Union; two sons: Chris Allen Black and Warren Scott Black both of Union; a sister: Peggy Montgomery and husband Kent of Smyrna, SC; a brother: Everett Burgess of York; grandchildren: Jennifer Ann Black, Robert Jordan Black, Rebekkah Black, Joshua Scott Black, Jeremy Dale Black, Michael Dwayne Black and Gabby; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. McBride was predeceased by two sons: Dwayne Hawkins and Joey Hawkins; a sister: Betty Chariker and a brother: Jerry D. Burgess, Sr.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, April 12, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Fowler, age 36, husband of Jill Duckett Fowler of 903 Lovers Lane Road Union, SC died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Regional Hospice House in Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Fowler was born in Union SC, July 4, 1974, a son of Lula Austin Fowler and the late Woodrow "Fuzz" Fowler. He was formerly employed with Reeves Brothers and had worked with Petie Ivey as a mechanic and loved dirt track racing, fishing and cars. Mr. Fowler was of the Baptist faith and attended Lower Fairforest Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Union High School.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters: Alison Fowler and Alexis Fowler of the home; one brother: David Fowler of Union; one sister: Dianne Tause of Union; his father and mother-in-law: Larry and Janice Duckett of Union; special nieces and nephews: Kayleigh Duckett, Tevor Duckett, Austin Duckett and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins; and a dear friend: Kenneth Roark.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Lance Miller and his staff for the kindness, assistance and medical care given to Jerry Wayne during his extended illness.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Cunningham and Rev. Benny Greene. Burial will be in the Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Martha Robinson, age 86, of Union passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Oakmont of Union after a brief illness.

Ms. Robinson was born in Union, November 11, 1923, a daughter of the late Charlie D. and Vera Bishop Robinson. She was a retired school teacher having at Monarch Elementary School and in the Adult Education Program of Union High School. Ms. Robinson was a member of First Baptist Church.

Ms. Robinson was the last surviving member of immediate family. Surviving are several special cousins including Lucille Barnette of Greenville, Frances Gault of Union and Dawn Taylor of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by three brothers: Charlie D. Robinson, Hervey H. Robinson and Eddie Monte Robinson and one sister: Vera Nell Robinson.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Robert Emory.

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside services.

Mr. Franklin D. Kelly, age 76, husband of Rachel Ham Kelly of 2917 Jerusalem Rd, Pacolet died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center

Mr. Kelly was born in Osceola, MS, January 13, 1934, a son of the late Charles Kelly and Ivey Lee Baker. He was owner and operator of All-Fab Mechanical and a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Kelly was a member of the Lakeside Drive Church of Christ.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Debbie Wallace and Dale Palmer and husband Barry all of Union; three sons: Eugene Kelly of GA, Chris Kelly and wife Allison of Boiling Springs, and Shannon Ham and wife Tansy of Jonesville; four sisters: Rachel Spencer, Catherine Wilson, Emma Jean Sullivan and Mary Alice Shaw all of Mississippi; thirteen grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Minister Ronnie Tripp and Minister Richard Carlson.

Mrs. Hazel Vanderford Greene, age 90, passed away at Oakmont of Union, April 5, 2010. Born in Lockhart, March 12, 1920, she was a daughter of the B.B. and Effie Vaughan Vanderford and wife of sixty seven years to the late Allen T. Greene. Mrs. Greene was a homemaker, but worked for fifteen years with Monarch Mills. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church since her marriage in 1940. She served for over thirty five years in the Children’s Dept. of the church.

Surviving are three daughters: Barbara G. Pruitt and husband Randall of Spartanburg, Linda G. Wade, wife of the late Donald Wade of Union and Margie G. Candler and husband Larry of Greenville; six grandchildren of whom she was very proud: Mitzie Thorne and husband Todd, Kristen Taylor and husband Barry, Eddy Wade and wife Sandra, Paul Candler, Susan Candler and partner Laura Stanton, and was predeceased by a grandson, Davis Candler. Also surviving are three precious great-grandsons: Chase and Tanner Thorne and Clayton Taylor. Mrs. Greene was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by four sisters, Margaret Vanderford, Frances Vaughan, Catherine Proctor, and Mary Lee Boyle and one brother, B.B. Vanderford, Jr.

A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM Thursday at the church prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be Ron Leonhardt, Michael Vanderford, Pee Wee Greene, Bobby Vaughan, Harold Eubanks and Dennis Russell.

Carla Renea Armstrong, age 38, of Rose Hill Garden Apts, Union, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Armstrong was born in Union, July 30, 1971 a daughter of Robert Armstrong of Forest City, NC and Reba Pressley Chupp of Union. She attended ITT Tech and was of the Baptist faith. Ms. Armstrong was a loving and caring mother.

Surviving are a son: Andy Stafford of the home; four sisters: Wanda Garner and husband David, Rita Edenfield and husband Larry, Karen Phillips and husband Bruce all of Union and Jeannie Christian and husband James of Greenwood; two brothers: Darrell Armstrong and wife Ann and Jerry Pruitt all of Union; three half brothers: Kenneth Armstrong of Charlotte, Albert Armstrong of Hickory and James Armstrong of Union; and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Armstrong was predeceased by a daughter, Samantha Inman; her step-mother, Evelyn Armstrong; her step-father, William Chupp, Sr.; and a brother, Lewis Dean Armstrong.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Roger Byrd and Rev. Buddy Hogan. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents Kenny and Mandy Adams, paternal grandparents Kenny and Warrenette Smith; Great grandparents Rev. Ken and Sandra Holcombe and Great grandmother Vivian Kelley all of Union.

Mrs. Dorothy Turner Gossett, age 83 of 473 New Hope Church Rd., Jonesville, widow of Fred Gossett, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Gossett was born in Union, April 17, 1926, a daughter of the late Noah and Lula Mae Mitchell Turner. She attended Kelly-Pinckney High School was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. Mrs. Gossett was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class

Surviving are a daughter: Ann Gossett of the home; a sister: Sybil Bobo of Union; four sisters-in-law: Betty Turner of Union, Anna Mae O’Shields of Buffalo, Pauline Turner and Ruth Gossett both of Jonesville and a host of loving children whom she considered her own. Mrs. Gossett was predeceased by five brothers, George, J.D., Clarence, Dean and Reford Turner and two sisters: O’Dell Eaves and Millie Carter.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at New Hope United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Jim Ivey and Rev. Will Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
