John Earl Woodward
Jonesville, SC

Mr. John Earl Woodward, age 77, husband of Barbara Fowler Woodward of 201 Park Drive, Jonesville, SC went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Woodward was born in Charlotte, NC, December 26, 1932, a son of the late John Simpson Woodward and Elizabeth Johnson Woodward. He was a member of Jonesville Church of God, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Woodward was a retired Veteran of the US Navy having served as a Gunner in the Cuban Crisis, Korean Conflict and two tours in the VietnamWar.

Surviving in addition to his wife of thirty-one years are a daughter, Michelle Hall and husband Edward of Lancaster; three grandsons: Zachary Hall, Casey Hall and Jake Hall; three sisters: Libby Pyatt of Rock Hill, Mary Nivens of Clover and Ruth Hinson of Catawba and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Jonesville Church of God conducted by Rev. Roger Byrd. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Chuck Fowler, Robert Burton, Neil Burton, Danny Pyatt and Scott Hinson.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home in Union.

Ralph Phillips, Jr.
Local Attorney

Mr. Ralph Phillips, Jr., a local attorney residing at 231 Heathwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC died Friday, February 26, 2010 at Lexington Medical Center. Mr. Phillips was born in Union, SC June 9, 1944, a son of the late Brigadier General Ralph Phillips, Sr., and Margaret Betenbaugh Phillips Brown, and the step-son of George W. Brown. He is survived by his wife, Susan Young Phillips, also a native of Union. In addition to his wife, Mr. Phillips is survived by seven children: Marc Phillips and Matthew Phillips both of the home, Kyle Phillips of Hickory, NC, Randee Robertson Keisler of Columbia, Levi Robertson of Boiling Springs, Ashley Phillips of Tampa FL and Libba Phillips of Charleston and five grandchildren.

Mr. Phillips was a 1962 graduate of Union High School; a 1966 graduate of Wofford College with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a 1969 graduate of University of South Carolina School of Law with a Juris Doctor Degree. Attorney Phillips practiced law in Union, SC from 1969 to 1993 and in Spartanburg, SC from 1993 to 2010. Attorney Phillips is a former City Judge for the City of Union, a former Union County Solicitor and a former 32nd Mason and Shriner. Attorney Phillips was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg.

At Union High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Biology Club, Latin Club, French Club, Junior Rotarian, and elected "Most Scholarly Male" in the senior class. He had the lead in the Senior Play (Turn Back the Clock) and the lead in the Junior Play (One Foot in Heaven) and acted in the Union County Little Theater production of Solid Gold Cadillac. At Wofford College, Mr. Phillips was Vice President of the Student Body, President of the Student Senate, member of the college President’s Advisory Council, member of the Blue Key Honorary Society, and selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Eastside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC conducted by Rev. Mike Royal and Rev. Curt Bradburn. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Pee Wee Green, Rick Carlisle, Benny Brown, William Holcombe and Johnny Fallaw.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:15 PM Wednesday in the church prior to the service.

Sybil Lipsey
Jonesville, SC

Mrs. Sybil Cleo Bradburn Lipsey, age 57, wife of Roger Lipsey, Sr of 322 Spencer Road, Jonesville, SC died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Lipsey was born in Union, SC December 2, 1952, a daughter of the late Homer Bradburn and Elizabeth Pender Bradburn. She was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Conso Products. Mrs. Lipsey was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was a faithful, loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband of thirty-nine years are a daughter, Amanda Jill Adams and husband Jason of Jonesville; a son, Roger Lipsey, Jr of the home; two sisters: Karen Wilson Black of Union and Shirlean Lancaster of Buffalo; a brother, Thomas Bradburn of Jonesville and three grandson: Jason Adams, Jr, Austin Adams and Preston Adams.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family is at the home, 322 Spencer Rd., Jonesville.

Cleo Vina Murray
Spartanburg, SC

Mrs. Cleo Vina Sturgill Murray, age 85 of 210 Wexford Lane, Spartanburg, SC, widow of Rev. Fred L. Murray went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 24, 2010.

Mrs. Murray was born in Pound, VA, October 26, 1924, a daughter of the late Gordon Sturgill and Melissa Blanton Sturgill. She was a graduate of Limestone College and received her Masters of Education from Winthrop College. Mrs. Murray was a retired school teacher having taught in Union and Spartanburg County Schools. She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Jane Murray of Greenville and Becky M. Carlos of Union; a grandson, Joshua M. Carlos and a brother, Ulus Sturgill both of Union.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan West. A committal service will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held immediately following the graveside service.

Wilhelmenia Bogan Adams
Spartanburg, SC

Mrs. Wilhelmenia Bogan Adams, age 85, widow of Ralph W. Adams, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at White Oak Estates in Spartanburg. Mrs. Adams was a nine year resident of White Oak Estates and was formerly of Harwood Heights, Union, SC.

Mrs. Adams was born in Union County, SC, July 24, 1924, a daughter of the late Caswell Pell Bogan and Inez Lawson Bogan. She was a graduate of Union High School and owned and operated her own beauty shop in Union for many years. Mrs. Adams was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, former member of the WMU and was formerly active with many youth programs. Mrs. Adams was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are two sons: Gene Adams and wife Wilma of Union and Don Adams and wife Susan of Clinton; three grandchildren: Regina Moss, Donald Ralph Adams and Cassie Gregory and two great-grandchildren: Blaine Moss and Dillon Caldwell. Mrs. Adams was predeceased by a sister, Martha Sanders; two brothers: William "Bill" Bogan and C.P. Bogan, Jr and a grandson, Kevin Adams.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 26, 2010 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon and Rev. Bill Adams. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Ralph Adams, Blaine Moss, Thad Gregory, Ricky Adams, Tommy Sanders and Bruce Sanders. The following are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers: J.D. Gaines, Colon Duckett, Tank Hollingsworth, Bruce Whisnant, Ted Babb, Gene Becknell and Claude Bobo.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Eunice Elayne Maness

Mrs. Eunice Elayne Maness, age 77, wife of James Donald Maness of 4929 Lockhart Hwy, Union, SC died Monday, February 22,2010 at her home.

Mrs. Maness was born in New Rockford, ND February 25,1932, a daughter of the late Oscar J. Brecto and Christina Jurgerson Brecto. She was a graduate of Concordia College and was a former school teacher.

Surviving in addition to her husband of fifty-six years are two daughters: June Cesil of Mooresville, NC and Debra Matthews and husband Richard of Gilbert; two granddaughters: Ashley Gunter and husband Jacob and Kelly Kleckley and husband Garrett and a great-grandson.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Annie Smith Gault
Union, SC

Mrs. Annie Louise Smith Gault, age 93, of 359 Beltline Rd., passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010.

Mrs. Gault was born in Union, SC, November 7, 1916 a daughter of the late Henry Wilson Smith and Julia Scales Smith. She was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church where she participated in the Sunday School and WMU ministries as long as her heath permitted.

Mrs. Gault retired from the United Merchants-Union Plant.

Survivors are two sons: Bobby Gault and wife Elaine and Doyle Gault and wife Rebecca both of Union; a sister: Ruby Morris of Union; a daughter-in-law: Margaret Gault of Laurens; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Gault was predeceased by two sons: Ray Gault and Raymond Gault; three brothers: and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Cato. Burial will be Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Gault, B.J. Gault, Benji Sorrells, Mark Keatley, Zack Poole and Caleb Keatley.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church.

Mr. George Wofford Rochester, age 82, husband of Gladys Fowler Rochester of 211 Lybrand Street, Jonesville, SC went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 19, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Rochester was born in Jonesville, SC, August 7, 1927, a son of the late Haskell T. Rochester and Ollie Hutcherson Rochester. He retired from Felters Company in Roebuck and was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II. Mr. Rochester was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church which he loved and served for many years.

Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-one years are two daughters: Becky Quinn and husband Vance and Donna Gaye Rochester all of Jonesville; two sons: Don Rochester and wife Fran of Hendersonville, NC and Stan Rochester and wife Laurie of Moore; two sisters: Martha Sherfield of Buffalo and Doris Erwin of Union; seven grandchildren: Jaime Williamson, Jessica Thompson, Joseph Greene, Daniel Rochester, Joshua Rochester, Jennifer Calhoun and David Hall and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Rochester was predeceased by two sisters: Frances Moore and LaVerne Smith, a brother, Carl Rochester and a great-granddaughter, Maggie Williamson.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown and Rev. Matt Williamson.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Mrs. Dorothy Setzler Whitney, "Dot", of Union, SC, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2010 at her home surrounded by family.

Dot was born on October 2, 1922 in Carlisle, SC. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Whitney, Sr. and her parents Arthur Bowles Setzler and Eva Gregory Setzler. She is survived by her sons William E. Whitney, Jr., "Billy" and his wife Patsy, and James F.B. Whitney, "Jimbo" and his wife Anita; and her seven grandchildren, who were very dear to her, Emily Tinsley Whitney, Louisa Stanfill Whitney, William E. Whitney, III, "Will", Eva Marie Whitney, James F.B. Whitney, Jr., "Bo", Dorothy Ann Frances Whitney and Julia Elizabeth Elmeta Whitney. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Setzler Mobley; her niece, The Honorable Dorothy Mobley Jones; and her great nephew, R. Findley Foster Jones.

She graduated from Union High School and Wingate College. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. Previously, while living in Florence, SC, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She had a strong Christian faith, and lived humbly by always putting others first.

Services will be held at Hebron Baptist Church in Union, SC at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2010.The Adult Ladies Class is asked to sit together.

Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church immediately following the service.

Memorials can be made to the General Fund at Hebron Baptist Church, 143 Hebron Church Road, Union, SC 29379.

Mr. Marion E. "Pop" Latham, age 75, husband of Hope Crocker Latham of 157 River Rd., Union, SC, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Latham was born in Lockhart, SC, February 1, 1935, a son of the late John Latham and Ella Mae Jones Latham. He retired from Milliken & Co - Lockhart Plant and was a Veteran of the US Army. Mr. Latham was a member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and was a member of the Lockhart Masonic Lodge.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Myra L. Dobbs of Greenville; two sons: Monty E. Latham and wife Kimberly of Lancaster and Michael E. Latham and wife Kristi of Summerville; two sisters: Sara Gallman of Hendersonville, NC and Laura Dabbs of Lockhart; two brothers: Buck Latham and Bill Latham both of Lockhart; nine grandchildren: Marian Dobbs, Regan Latham, Trevor Latham, Harrison Latham, Zoe Latham, Zachary Latham, Andrew Latham, Matthew Latham and Jake Latham. Mr. Latham was predeceased by two sisters: Josie Mae Kirby and Agnes Vanderford and a brother, Melvin Latham.

Thurman "Shorty" Ramsey
Union, SC

Thurman Eugene "Shorty" Ramsey, 81, of 111 Springdale Drive, Union, widower of Annie Ruth Johnson Ramsey, went home to be with his Lord, and be reunited with his wife of 59 years, on Sunday February 14, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ramsey was born in Spartanburg County, October 10, 1928, a son of the late Otis B. and Ruby Steadings Ramsey. He was the owner and former operator of Ramsey’s Garage on West Main Street, Union. Mr. Ramsey was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. and was a lifetime member of Duncan Masonic Lodge # 75.

Surviving are three daughters: Sue R. Davis and husband Butch of Union, Joan R. Christopher and husband Gary of Pulaski, Tennessee, and Melissa R. Johnson and husband Ronnie of Woodruff; two sons: Steven E. Ramsey and wife Barbara of Buffalo and Mark A. Ramsey of the home; two sisters: Evelyn R. Goings of Spartanburg and Emma Lee R. Fincher of Union; a brother, Orlander Ramsey of Duncan; eight grandchildren: Amy Pittman and her husband Matt, Timothy Davis of Union, Beth Anthony and her husband Thomas "Dee" of Buffalo, Stacey Shope and her husband Jason of Rock Hill , Chris Fallaw and his wife Alicia of Mt. Airey, NC, Sam Christopher of Pulaski, Tennessee, Karli and Anna Reynolds of Woodruff; two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Ramsey was predeceased by three brothers: Garrett, Thomas, and Jack Ramsey.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman, Dr. Herbert Garrett, and Mr. Jim Palmer. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with full Masonic Rites.

Mr. Ramsey’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class; the Jimmy Smith Friday Night Jamboree; the Buffalo Opry and Rick McKinney’s Pickers are all asked to sit in a group.

Ethel Jane Hammett

Mrs. Ethel Jane Carroll Hammett, age 72, wife of Harold Hammett of 295 Limestone Street, Pacolet Mills, SC died Monday, February 15, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Hammett was born in Cleveland, NC December 10, 1937, a daughter of the late Jefferson "Jeff" Carroll and Carrie Navy Carroll. She was a retired Textile worker and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters: Sherry Nolen of Pacolet Mills, Sandy Hammett of CA and Shelley Fleming of Pacolet; a son, Dean Hammett of Spartanburg; a sister, Becky Davis of Union; five brothers: Coleman Carroll of Union, Tom Carroll of Lake Bowen, Pete Carroll of Bessemer City, NC, Steve Carroll of Spartanburg and Mike Carroll of Pacolet; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Union.

Visitation will be held 2:00-2:45 PM Thursday at the graveside prior to the service.

Mr. Ronnie Wright, Jr, age 31, of 219 Morningside Drive, Pauline, SC, died Monday, February 15, 2010.

Mr. Wright was born in Rock Hill, SC September 4, 1978, a son of Ronnie and Gayle Wright of the home Mr. Wright attended Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter, Brittany Wright; a son, Scotty Wright both of Union; two sisters: Teresa Wright of Buffalo and Carolyn Kirby of the home; grandparents: Alfred Jackson of Buffalo and the late Carol Jackson and the late Charles and Evelyn Wright.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kathleen Justice Ivey, age 86 of 337 Kelly Rd., Union, SC, widow of James William Ivey, died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ivey was born in Union, SC, July 4, 1923, a daughter of the late Milas Justice and Mary Elizabeth Franklin Justice. She retired from Conso Products and was a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sisters: Bernice Falls, Jessie McClure and Alma Justice all of Union; a brother, Burton Justice of Buffalo; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Ivey of Union; a special niece, Linda Ann Toney of Jonesville, reared in the home; a special friend, Dorothy Young of Union and three step-grandchildren. Mrs. Ivey was predeceased by a son,, James Bryant Ivey; four sisters: Willie Justice, Alice J. Williford, Dora Boyles and Viola Williams; and three brothers: Franklin Justice, Wylie Justice and Bryant Milas Justice.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 14, 2010 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Dr. Lawton Neely. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ralph L. Moss, Sr.

Mr. Ralph Lee Moss, Sr., age 73, husband of Shirley Lipsey Moss of 233 Deepwater Rd., Union, died Thursday, February 11, 2010.

Mr. Moss was born in Union, May 4, 1936, a son of the late Andrew Jackson Moss, Sr. and Coy Mae Southerland Moss. He was retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant and was a member of the BPO Elks. Mr. Moss was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Susan Vanderford and husband Chuck of Buffalo and Melissa Silvers and husband Randy of Union; one son: R.L. Moss, Jr. and wife Amanda of Union; two brothers: Lowell Moss of Anderson and Andy Moss, Jr. of New Prospect; six grandchildren: Shane Vanderford, Lee Moss, Justin Silvers, Krysten McDaniels, Nathan Silvers and Caroline Moss; four great-grandchildren: Tesla Judy, Devin Vanderford, Leigh Ann Vanderford and Charlie Vanderford.

Jettie S. Johnson

Mrs. Jettie Shetley Johnson, age 77, wife of Herbert F. Johnson, Sr. of 1711 Whitmire Hwy. Union, passed away, Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Del Rio, TN, June 13, 1932 a daughter of the late Lester and Ada Ellis Shetley. She was retired as a nurse’s assistant from Wallace Thomson Hospital and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. William Johnson, Jr, age 82, husband of Vivian Babb Johnson, formerly of Brittany Manor Apts, Union, SC, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mr. Johnson was born in Whitmire, SC, a son of the late William McKinley Johnson and Lelia Robinson Johnson. He grew up in Buffalo and later retired from Excel Hoisery Mill. Mr. Johnson was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II. He later joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Johnson was of the Baptist Faith and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Carmen Jeter and husband Hugh and Donna Palmer and husband Darryl all of Union; two grandsons: Jason Palmer and Collin Palmer and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a sister, Mae Johnson and four brothers: Albert, John, Fred and Bobby Johnson.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Mr. Darryl Palmer.

Mrs. Cynthia Doris Tidwell Loyd, age 81, widow of Barney Sanford Loyd, Sr., of 470 Sardis Rd. Union, passed away at her home, Monday, February 8, 2010.

Mrs. Loyd was born in Buffalo, January 28, 1929, a daughter of the late John Sexton Tidwell and Francis Robertson Tidwell. She was a graduate of Chitora High School in Charleston and was retired from Wometco Vending Co. Mrs. Loyd was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Cynthia Yarbrough and husband Larry; a son: Sandy Loyd and wife Betty all of Union; two special daughters: Ronda Palmer and Amy Spencer both of Union; three sisters: Mary Louise Tidwell of Union, Athalee Dickerson of Elgin and Marcella Shirey of Irmo; one brother: John Elward Tidwell of West Columbia; seven gandchildren: Justin Yarbrough and wife Lacie, Carrie Shetley and husband Anthony, David Yarbrough, Eric Yarbrough, Marcie Loyd and husband Danny Canada, Derek Loyd and wife Nikki and Clay Garner and wife April; 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Corinne Thompson Vinson, age 87 of 607 N. Pinckney St., Union, SC, widow of Boyd Vinson died Monday, February 9, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Vinson was born in Barkers Creek, NC, December 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Coleman Thompson and Maggie Sherrill Thompson. She retired from Conso Products and had formerly worked with United Merchants. She was a member of Union Church of Christ and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Irene Vinson of the home.

Cryptside services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum conducted by Mr. Gary S. Hamm.

Mr. Charles Francis Lancaster, Sr., age 83 of 1815 Mudbridge Rd., Jonesville, SC, died Sunday, February 7, 2010 at his home. He was married for fifty-six years to the late Joyce L. Lancaster.

Mr. Lancaster was born in West Springs, SC, August 21, 1926, a son of the late Roy Lancaster and Carrie Lee Lamb Lancaster. He was a retired truck driver with Cone Mills and was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II. Mr. Lancaster was a member of West Springs Baptist Church, Duncan Masonic Lodge and the Hejaz Shriners. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Tucker and husband Jerry of Pauline; two sons: Charles Lancaster, Jr of the home and Frank L. Lancaster and wife LuJuan of Jonesville; a sister, Agnes Bogan and husband Johnny of West Springs; two brothers: Wayne Lancaster and wife Shirley of Jonesville and Kenny Lancaster and wife Martha of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren: Chad Neely, Jason and Christi Neely, Rockey and Kelly Lancaster, Cassie Lancaster, Kelly Lancaster, Jeremy Lancaster and Christie and Jeff Tweed and six great-grandchildren: Rylan, Addison, Jaycub and Saydee Lancaster and Garrett and Pressley Tweed. Mr. Lancaster was predeceased by a brother, Joe Lancaster.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Melvin Shelton. Burial will be in Putman Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.

Miss Margaret L. Jenkins, age 93, formerly of Buffalo, SC died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at White Oak Manor in Spartanburg.

Miss Jenkins was born in Buffalo, SC September 16, 1916, a daughter of the late Robert Jenkins and Kate Willard Jenkins. She retired from United Merchants - Buffalo Plant and also from Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Miss Jenkins was a member of Beulah Baptist Church but attended Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are a half-sister, Ruby J. Boulware and husband Eddie; a half-brother, John

Gary Jenkins and wife Mary; two nephews reared in the home: Ralph Lawson, Jr and wife Janet and Edward Lawson all of Union; a sister-in-law, Edna Jenkins; a brother-in-law, Ralph Lawson, Sr both of Buffalo and numerous nieces and nephews. Miss Jenkins was predeceased by two sisters: Shirley Reynolds and Janie Sue Lawson and three brothers: Willard Jenkins,Jr.,Robert "Bob" Jenkins, Jr and Douglas Jenkins.

Mrs. Parker was born in Chester, SC November 9, 1939, a daughter of the late Newton Gaston Nichols, Sr and Laura Virginia Dunlap Nichols. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School Adult Ed and was a member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Parker retired from Lockhart Schools Cafeteria and was formerly employed with Klapat.

Surviving in addition to her husband of fifty years are a granddaughter, Heather Parker of Union; a sister, Cora N. Bentley and husband Dean of Lockhart and a brother, Barnette Nichols and wife Jean of Richburg, SC. Mrs. Parker was predeceased by two sons: Steve Parker and Bobby Parker; two sisters: Harriette Nichols Broome and Margaret Jo Nichols and four brothers: Newton Gaston Nichols, Jr., Bill, Grady and Foster Nichols.

Mr. McCall was born in Union, SC October 9, 1935, a son of the late Harry J. McCall and Bertha Craft McCall. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Timken. Mr. McCall was a member of Masonic Lodge #75 and was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Tim McCall and wife Joanne of Union; four grandchildren: Ashley, Josh and Angie McCall and Jessica Caldwell and husband Mesha; six great-grandchildren: Rabecka McCall, Evan McCall, Taylor Worthy, Xavier Kershaw, Jameson Lott and Aleah McCall. Mr. McCall was predeceased by a son, Tommy "Tuck" McCall, four sisters and a brother.

Mrs. Montano was born in Adamsburg, SC, October 9, 1928, a daughter of the late William Fowler and Evelyn Adams Fowler. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church for seventy-one years and was a homemaker. Mrs. Montano was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband of fifty-three years are a daughter, Milene McCall and husband Charles of Carrollton, KY; a son, Kerry Fowler and wife Melinda of Norwood, NC; five grandchildren: Asilene and John McCall, Desiree, Keffer and Patrick Fowler and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Montano was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kerri Anne.

Mrs. Lane was born in Union, SC, October 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Clarence Douglas Smith, Sr and Lizzie Greer Smith. She retired from Milliken & Company - Ottaray Plant. Mrs. Lane was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church where she was a member of United Methodist Women, an honorary choir member and a member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Lane is survived by two daughters: Mary Ellen Smith and husband Sammy and Hazel McKinney and husband Billy all of Union; a son, Donald Ray Lane of Summerton; seven grandchildren: Michelle Shugart, Kevin Smith, Wesley Lane, Kevin Wilson, Ronda Palmer, Amy Spencer and Brandy Gainor; nineteen great-grandchildren and a special friend, Mildred Tipton of Union. Mrs. Lane was predeceased by two sisters: Myrtle Cudd and Gladys Byrd and two brothers: Doug Smith and William Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. John Cribb and Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Turner was born in Union County, SC March 31, 1963, a daughter of the late Everette Wynn and Julia Patterson Harrold. She was a member of Morningstar Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Amanda Turner of Pauline and Taylor Turner of the home; a son, Bradley Turner of New York; a brother, Bruce Wynn of Gaffney; two grandchildren: Carley Ingle and Christopher Ingle both of Pauline; a step-father, Ned Harrold of Pacolet and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Andrew Carrigan.

Donita Deanne Mayfield, age 37, daughter of Phillip and Donna Elliott Mayfield of Union, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 31,2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Donita was born in Anthony, Kansas, August 17, 1972 and grew up in Wakita, Oklahoma. After attending Central Oklahoma State University, she joined her family is Union and graduated from the University of South Carolina- Spartanburg. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity as long as her health permitted and had worked at the Inn at Merridun. Donita had been a resident at Oakmont of Union for the past ten years.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister: Misty M. Babic and husband Dario and their son, Ivan Elliott Babic of Atlanta GA; a brother: Phillip Dean "PD" Mayfield, II and wife Kelli of St. Louis, MO; her paternal grandmother: Mrs. Velma Keck Mayfield of Edmond, OK; two uncles: Kenneth G. Mayfield and wife Connie and Jerry L. Mayfield and wife Kayle; and cousins and their families. Donita was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Ivan and Edith Matson Elliott, her paternal grandfather, Paul Dean Mayfield and an uncle, Douglas Paul Mayfield.

Funeral services will be held 4:30 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity conducted by Rev. Cannon Robert H. Long. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Lewis Harley Davis, age 81,widower of Betty Hawkins Davis of 306 Fairmont St., Union, SC, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Davis was born in Union, March 7, 1928, a son of the late Douglas Davis, Sr. and Mary O’Shields Davis. He was the owner and operator of Davis Produce and attended Welcome Baptist Church.

Mr. Davis will be remembered as a wonderful husband to his wife of fifty-four years, a loving father to his five children and a doting grandfather and great grandfather.

Survivors include two daughters; Myria Cogdill and Elaine Robertson and special companion, Ronnie Swanger, three sons; Gene Davis and wife Melinda, Steve Davis and wife Carrie and Ricky Davis and wife Rhonda, all of Union, two sisters Betty Bledsoe of Union and Elizabeth Inman of Whitmire, fourteen grandchildren; Daniyel Davis, Nick Davis, Nicole and John Calhoun, Joshua and Brandy Rochester, Jennifer and Chip Calhoun, Jeri Robertson, David and Sonya Sinclair, Betsy and Kevin Robinson, Lance and Amy Davis, Lee Davis, Crystal and Jackie Earls, Amanda and Jamie Vaughn, Krissy Davis and Matthew Davis; seventeen great grandchildren; C.J. & Taylor Gardin, Gage Calhoun, Alexis and Andrew Davis, Tristen Davis, Bailee, Alex and Colby Calhoun, Davis Rochester, Addison Davis, Ryleigh and Connor Earls, Amanda Sinclair, Nathan and Noah Robinson, and Jordan Vaughn and a special friend Jason Watson.
