Lenora R. Maxey

Mrs. Lenora R. Maxey, age 91, widow of James Oliver Maxey, of Union, passed away, Monday, November 29, 2010 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Maxey was born in Rutherfordton, NC, February 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Andrew and Bessie Huntley Roberson. She was a 1935 graduate of Central High School in Rutherfordton and was retired from Penn Railroad. Mrs. Maxey was formerly employed with the Long Island City Newsday paper in New York. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son: James Maxey and wife Mary of Chelmsford, MA; a grandson: Ian Maxey; three sisters: Callie Barnwell of Henderson, NC, Meredith Greene of Union and Lavonne Robbins of Buford, GA; three brothers: Neal Roberson of Rutherfordton, NC, Norman Roberson of Mableton, GA, and Leon Roberson of Forest City, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Maxey was predeceased by two sisters: Ruth Donavan and Catherine Snipes and a brother, Forrest Roberson.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Fruitland Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC, conducted by Rev. Robert Emory and Rev. Spencer Ledford.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church.

Laura Ann Laxton Turner
Union, SC

Mrs. Laura Ann Laxton Turner, age 76, wife of James F. Turner of 215 Belvue Drive, Union, SC died Monday, November 29, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Turner was born in Union, SC July 29, 1934, a daughter of the late John Wesley Laxton and Ada Kitchens Laxton. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and also a member of Stephanie Kitchens Sunday School Class. Mrs. Turner retired from Lockhart Mill.

Surviving are four sons: Michael Turner, Johnny Turner, Tony Turner and Scott Turner all of Union; two sisters: Meta Ward of Union and Kaye Burgess of Jonesville; four grandchildren: Britney Turner of N.C., Jennifer Turner of Union, Kimberly Turner of Greer and Jada Turner of Union and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Turner was predeceased by three sisters: Doris Henderson, Mildred Hughes and Betty Jo Pettit and a brother, Johnny Laxton.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Hebron Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Childers and Rev. Jerry Ford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Keith Henderson, Jeff Hyder, Wayne Moss, Ben Jolly, C.B. Jolly and Bill Cain. The following are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers: Richard Henderson, Brian Henderson, Harry Woods, Jim Woods, Sr. Members of Stephanie Kitchens Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 PM in the church prior to the service.

Helen Sanford

Mrs. Helen Morris Beard Sanford, age 87, widow of Amos Eugene Sandford, formerly of 105 North Boyce Street, Union, died Sunday, November 28, 2010.

Mrs. Sanford was born in Spartanburg, March 7, 1923 a daughter of the late Wesley Wesco Morris and Ethel Hipps Morris. She was first married to the late James Morgan Beard. A member of Union Church of God, she retired from the United Merchants-Union plant after thirty-five years.

Survivors are a daughter Cora Revis of Union; two sons: Harold Dean Beard wife Fran of Clyde,NC and Donald Lee Beard and wife Diane of Union; three sisters: Neil Girard of Coco Beach, FL., Mary Henderson of Hepxabah, GA., and Rachel Meshad of AL.; two stepdaughters: Linda Treadway of Union and Stella Maness of Buffalo; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sanford was predeceased by two sisters: Pat Wright and Joyce Arthur, three brothers: Babe Morris, Bud Morris and Paul Morris.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Union Church of God, conducted by Bishop Tommy Brown. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Jerry Boulware, David Boulware, Bobby Boulware, Dewayne Beard, Brad Ochiltree and Carroll Austin.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, November 29, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Harold Dean Sinclair

Mr. Harold Dean Sinclair, age 76, husband of Lucille Deaton Sinclair, of 193 Carem Rd., Union died Friday, November 26, 2010 after a brief illness.

Mr. Sinclair was born August 19, 1934, in Union, a son of the late Nim Sinclair and Lottie Melton Sinclair. He attended Assembly of God Church and was a veteran of the Union County National Guards . Mr. Sinclair was retired from Spartan Mills-Rosemont Plant.

Surviving in an addition to his wife are 2 daughters: Mary E. Morris (Paul) and Vickie Boulware; 5 sons: Chris D. Sinclair, Fred A. Sinclair, Harley S. Sinclair, David E. Sinclair (Tracy) and Harold D. Sinclair, Jr. (Brenda); 1 brother: Bud Chalk and 2 sisters: Lottie "Tootsie" Lipsey and Edna Parks; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Sinclair was predeceased by 1 daughter: Hattie "Sissy" McGowan; 2 sons: Donald A. Sinclair and Paul R. Sinclair; 2 sisters: Helen Gregory and Kathaleen Coleman; and two brothers: William Chalk and Nim "Poppy" Sinclair.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November29, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Richard "Bokie’ Prince, Jason Deaton, Merle Gregory, Gene Gregory, Jerry Sinclair, Paul Caldwell Joey Prince and Steve Gregory.

Thomas James Crisp
Orangeburg, SC

Thomas James Crisp, 84, of Orangeburg, SC, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Longwood Plantation in Orangeburg.

Mr. Crisp was born November 16, 1926 in Bryson City, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Hettie Buckner Crisp and Harry Pendleton Crisp.He was a life long member of Buffalo Baptist Church in Buffalo, SC where he served as a Deacon and as a Sunday School Superintendent. He was a former member of the “Redmen” and a member of the American Legion where he once served as Commander of Post 87. He served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from the Ralph Gillespie Plant, Milliken Company in Union SC.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Holcombe Funeral home of Union, SC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 27, at 11:00 AM at the graveside in Union Memorial Gardens, Union, SC, with the Rev.Herb Stephens officiating.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Mr. Crisp was pre-deceased by a son, Gene Thomas Crisp, of Buffalo, SC.Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Edith Price Crisp, of Magnolia Place in Orangeburg; a son, Jerry L. and wife, Cindy Crisp of Rowesville, SC; two grandsons, David T. Crisp and wife, Laura Crisp of Buffalo, SC and Matthew L. Crisp of Rowesville.

The family wishes to thank the employees of Longwood Plantation for their wonderful care and support.

Jackie Lynn Price

Mrs. Jackie Lynn Groves Price, age 39, wife of Keith Price, of 237 Old Buncombe Rd., Union, passed away, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Price was born in Union, February 12, 1971 a daughter of Lillian Camby Babb and the late Jackie Lynn Groves. She was formerly employed with Renfro Co. and attended Morningside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are two sons:Joshua Price and fiancee Kristin Edwards and Matthew Price all of Union; a sister: Angie Smith and fiancee Robin Duncan of Union; herstep-father: James Carl Babb; a step-brother: Marvin Babb her maternal grandmother: Annie Inman; her in-laws: Lawrence and Shirley Price; a special aunt: Joyce Rector; brothers and sisters in-laws: Larry and Jennifer Price and Angie and Allen McGinn all of Union.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Lance Miller, Kevin Smith, Malcomb Harris, Robert Fowler, Andrew Ivey, Eddie Hutchinson, Bobby Rodgers, Kyle Wilson, T.S. Roberts, Brandon Roberts and her nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Elsie Franklin Ray age 77, widow of Jack Ray, formerly of Buffalo passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ray was born in Buffalo, January 3, 1933 a daughter of the late Haskell and Edith Boulware Franklin. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter Melanie Ray of Spartanburg with whom she made her home; a son: Steve Ray and wife Regina of Pacolet; four grandchildren: Heather Bobo, Nick Bevis, Wil Ray and Jesse Ray and 4 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Wil Ray.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 until 2:30 PM prior to the graveside service at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elsie F. Ray Fund, P.O. Box 293, Union, SC, 29379.

Saundra P. Jones

Mrs. Saundra Jo Ann Prince Jones, age 68, wife of Sanford Ray Jones of 528 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, passed away Monday evening, November 22, 2010 at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Jones was born in Union, December 4, 1941, a daughter of the late Jake and Annie Dee Morrow Prince. Mrs. Jones was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are six daughters: Laurie Abrams, Kristi Lawter, Vicki Gregory, Nicki Guy and Sybil Smith all of Union and Deanie Byars of Prosperity; one son: Terry Jones of Union; one sister: Dianne Knox of Union; 17 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by a son, Christopher Prince and a sister Tanis Dover.

A memorial services will be planned for a later date.

The family is at the home, 528 Peach Orchard Rd., Union.

Dr. Earle K. Ralph

Dr. Earle K. Ralph, age 75 of 106 Beechtree Place, Union, SC, widower of Judith O'Shields , died Friday, November 19, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Ralph was born in Providence, Rhode Island July 12, 1935, a son of the late Earle K. Ralph, Jr and Mamie Droitcour Ralph. He was a graduate of Cranston High School; University of Rhode Island and earned his Phd.

from University of South Carolina. Dr. Ralph was a Professior of Chemistry at Memorial University, Newfoundland, Canada. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Scott K. Ralph and his wife Valerie of Oakville, Ontario Canada; a granddaughter, Victoria Alexandra Ralph of Oakville, Ontario Canada; a sister, Janet Ralph and husband Sam Scott of Brookline, MA and a sister-in-law, Doris Hodge of Union. Dr. Ralph was predeceased by a sister, Anne Ralph.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity conducted by Father Robert H. Long.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tyler Hodge, Tom Adamo, Christian Taylor Adamo, Andrew Adamo, Richard Nalls, Jackie Earls and Chuck Hodge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Kelly and Ned Owens.

Rena Eubanks Ammons

Mrs. Rena Eubanks Ammons, age 84, widow of William D. "Bill" Ammons, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Oakmont of Union.

Mrs. Ammons was born in Union, SC September 12, 1926, a daughter of the late Robert R. Eubanks and Ruth Brown Eubanks. She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Milliken & Company - Cedar Hill Plant. Mrs. Ammons was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a special sister-in-law, Mary Del Eubanks of Union and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ammons was predeceased by four sisters:

Helen Lunette Ferrell, Mae Frances Clark, Wilma E. Cunningham and Millie E. Parks, and a brother, Robert Eubanks.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Monday, November 22, 2010 at Bethel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Terry Mitchell. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Stevens, David Eubanks, Ken Parks, Jerry Callahan, Tommy Cunningham and Hugh McCown.

Visitation will be held 2:30-3:30 PM Monday in the church prior to the service.

Raymond D. Watkins, Sr.

Mr. Raymond D. Watkins, Sr., age 80, husband of Pauline James Watkins of 114 Union Lane, Lockhart, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Watkins was born in Murphy, NC, June 21, 1930, a son of the late Grady and Alice Eggers Watkins. He was retired from Tar Hill Ford in Charlotte and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Pat Owenby and Carolyn Coleman of Greer, and Janie Leigh of Newberry; four sons: Larry Puckett and Freddie Puckett of Lockhart, Rev. Rodney Boone of Concord, NC and Jeffrey Boone of Clover; four sisters: Lillie Beard, Jenny Jenkins, and Mildred Hobbs all of Maiden, NC, and Hazel Thomas of Galena, MO; seven brothers: Ed Watkins of Beaufort, Bud Watkins of Bryson City, NC, Grady Watkins, Jr, Charles Watkins, and Paul Watkins all of Raleigh, NC, Randy Watkins of Texas and Bill Watkins of Hickory, NC; 25 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. Mr. Watkins was predeceased by a son, Raymond C. Watkins, a sister, Lena Stroupe and a brother, D.H. Watkins.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Lockhart Cemetery conducted by Rev. Rodney Boone. Mr. Watkins grandsons will serve and active pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:30 PM Tuesday at the S.R.

Holcombe Funeral Home prior to the graveside services.

Mr. Jeffrey Scott Frost, age 46, of 296 Meansville Rd, Apt E30, Union, SC, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Frost was born in Union, SC January 27, 1964, a son of the late Thomas Earl Frost and Catherine Parniece Bright Frost. He was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Conso. Mr. Frost coached youth recreational football and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are a sister, Janice F. Maness and husband Steve of Buffalo; a niece, Lindsey C. Maness of Union; two nephews: Adam Maness and wife Lisa of Jonesville and Joseph Maness and wife Timberly of Union; two great-nephews: Dawson and Auston Maness of Jonesville; two great-nieces: Daisie and Madison Maness of Union; nine special friends: Sandra Fincher, Gene Rector, both of Union, Carol Upton of Buffalo, David Maness of Pacolet, David Lavender, Freddie Harris both of Buffalo, Pam Ray of Union, Tyler Lancaster, Dianne Smith, Mary Beth Lancaster all of Buffalo, Randy and Sara Lanier of Spartanburg and Martha Winchester of Union.

Mr. Frost was predeceased by two brothers: Joey Frost and Danny Frost.

A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, November 20, 2010 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Michael Wingertsan and Rev. Tim Anderson. The special friends of Mr. Frost are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 PM Saturday in the chapel prior to the service.

Paul B. Matthews

Mr. Paul B. Matthews, age 74, husband of Karen Matthews of 1236 Sardis Rd. Lot 6, Union, SC died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Matthews was born in Tennessee April 27, 1936, a son of the late Ernest and Faye Fields Matthews. He was a retired construction worker and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Matthews was first married to the late Magdalene Foster Boulware Matthews.

Surviving are three step-children: Lynn Knox of Jonesville, Mary Ann Ramsey of Gaffney and Robin Underhill of Buffalo; two step-sons: Jackie Boulware of Buffalo and Amos Boulware of Monarch; two sisters: Nancy Wix of Woodruff and Ruth Lee of Union; a brother, Richard Matthews of Gilbert, SC; a number of step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ray Harold Belue.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

Mrs. Barbara Jean Duncan Mabry, age 53, wife of Roger Mabry of 1755 Wofford Rd., Enoree, SC died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the home of her aunt Martha in Greer, SC.

Mrs. Mabry was born in Greer, SC July 19, 1957, a daughter of Betty Suttles of Campobello, SC and the late James Thomas Duncan, Jr. She was a graduate of Byrns High School and Spartannburg Technical College. She was formerly employed with D. Felters Group in Roebuck and was a member of Pineview Baptist Church in Greer.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter, Jamie Couch McKnight; a son, Zack Couch both of Woodruff;a step-daughter, Brandy Gentry of Enoree; a step-son, Justin Mabry of Columbia; two brothers: James C. Duncan of San Dusky, OH and Steven Duncan of Travelers Rest; two sisters: Tina Marle Duncan Curtis of Woodruff; and Denise Duncan of Campobello and ten grandchildren. Mrs.

Mabry was predeceased by a special friend and father-in-law, Carl Mabry.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Pineview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dan Bryant and Rev. Carroll Caldwell. Burial will be in church cemetery.

Willie O. Malpass, age 82, husband of Bessie Stewart Malpass of 4120 Marilyn Drive, Charleston, SC, formally of Union, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 in the Veterans Victory House Nursing Home in Walterboro, SC.

Mr. Malpass was born in Union July 28, 1928, a son of the late Tally Malpass and Elsie Thompson Malpass. He was a graduate of Union High School and served with the U S. Navy for 27 years where he was a Radioman First Class Communication Specialist. He was a member of Padgetts Creek Baptist Church and a Master Mason of Lodge # 366 Chicora Lodge.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 daughters; Melissa Schoeffel and husband Anthony of Charleston, SC and Teresa Hoffberg and husband Howard of Union, SC, a brother; Larry Malpass of Union and a grandaughter Katie Schoeffel of Charleston; a sister- in- law; Lucille and husband Edward Craig of Union. Mr. Malpass was pre-deceased by a brother Harold Malpass.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Padgetts Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev Carrol Caldwell.

Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with full military honors.

Ellen Jo Young Cagle

Mrs. Ellen Jo Young Cagle, age 85, widow of Waylon Cagle, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 13, 2010 at her home, 1151 Sardis Road, Union SC .

Mrs. Cagle was born in Union, a daughter of the late Leland Cunningham Young and Ida Gregory Young.

Mrs. Cagle was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Her Majesty of Union. She was a lifelong member of Sardis United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and very active in her church.

Surviving are 3 daughters; Bonnie Steelman and husband Jonathan of Bishop, GA, Vicki Shenk and husband Chuck of Hull, GA and Karen Wilson and husband George of Moore, SC, a brother; Morris "Bud" Young of Union,14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a son; David Anthony Cagle, a sister; Connie Neeves and a granddaughter; Summer Shenk.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM , Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. John Cribb. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be; Justin Roling, Erik Steelman, Christopher Cooper, Gregory Wilson, George Wilson, Jr. and Rusty Young.

Mrs. Vivian Holcombe Farr, age 92, formerly of Maranatha Manor, Spartanburg, SC, widow of J.C. Farr, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Farr was born in Cherokee County, SC, May 31, 1918, a daughter of the late Marvin Boyd Holcombe and Mamie Birdie Mauk Holcombe. She was a graduate of Kelly Pickney High School; retired from Milliken & Company and also had worked for Wambell Plant. Mrs Farr was a member of Foster Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Farr is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Hall (Walter) of Spartanburg; a sister, Nadean Vinson of Spartanburg; a brother, W. Hope Holcombe (Carrie) of Jonesville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Holcombe of Jonesville; four grandsons: two step-grandchildren: James Varner (Sherry) of Gaffney, Richard Varner (Irene) of Greer, Tim Wayne Varner (Ann) of Gaffney, Scott Varner (Barbara) of Rock Hill, Tracy Hall (Amanda) of Greer and Karen Honeycutt (Jarred) of Columbus, NC; fourteen great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Farr was predeceased by her brother, Gordon Harold Holcombe.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 12, 2010 at Foster Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Christopher Green and Rev. Alan West. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Richard Varner, Tim Wayne Varner, Scott Varner, Tracy Hall, Jarred Honeycutt and Gene Vinson.

Mr. Timothy Eugene Brewington, age 45, of 301 Stutts Ave., Union, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Tim was born in Union SC, June 25, 1965, a son of Bobby Gene and Carolyn Tingle Brewington. He was a 1983 graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Tim was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was employed with Anderson Hardwood of Clinton. Tim loved spending time with his family, fishing and was an avid Gamecock Fan. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a girlfriend: Linda Ward; a daughter, Samantha Nicole Brewington; a son, Kevin Shane Brewington; a sister, Angela Brewington Bright, all of Union; a brother, William Curtis Brewington of Cliffside, NC; three nieces; three nephews; two great-nieces and three great nephews. Mr. Brewington was predeceased by his grandparents William Owen and Vera Knight Tingle and Guy and Bertha Brewington.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman and Rev.

Larry Padgett. Burial will be at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs Renee Gibbs Millwood, age 50, of Spartanburg, wife of Ron Brown died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Ceneter.

Mrs. Millwood was born in Union, SC April 30, 1960, a daughter of the late Ray Gibbs and Joyce Howell Gibbs Kitchens. She was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Jessica Cantor and husband Joshua of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Courtney Cantor; a sister, Denese Blackwood ; a brother, Stanley Howell both of Union and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Millwood was predeceased by a brother, Mike Kitchens.

Mrs. Myrtle Duncan Blackwell, age 72 of 278 Emma Cudd Rd., Spartanburg, SC , widow of Johnnie Blackwell died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Blackwell was born in Cherokee County, SC February 25 1938, a daughter of the late Hamp Duncan and Bertha Duncan . She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are two daughters: Rhonda Whiteside of Spartanburg and Dianne Nickols of Pacolet; a son, Kenneth Wayne Blackwell with whom she made her home; daughters-in-law: Brenda Mills Blackwell, Barbara Ann Blackwell, Shirley Ann Blackwell; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Annie Mae Johnson of N.C., Merly Lee Worley of Pacolet and Nelle Epps of Clifton. Mrs Blackwell was predeceased by a son, Jerry Wayne Blackwell; three sisters: Betty Kirby, Margaret Burrell and Elsie Mae McGrawl.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Lighthouse Pentacostal Holiness Church conducted by Rev. Ray Southerland. Burial will be in Pacolet First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Eleanor Davis Mahan age 93, widow of Dr. Floyd R. Mahan, of 211 Glendale Rd., Union, passed away Thursday November 4, 2010.

Mrs. Mahan was born in Burley, Idaho, a daughter of the late Carl and Nora Roper Davis. She was a graduate of Stetson University in Florida where she attended on a full music scholarship. Mrs. Mahan was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a longtime choir member and also active in various community activities as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are four sons: Allen V. Mahan and Ardelle Darling of Clearwater, FL, Dr. Michael M. Mahan and wife Nancy of Union, Jack R.

Mahan and wife Judy of Greer, and Randolph R. Mahan and wife Kathy of Columbia; a daughter-in-law: Rita Mahan of Geneva, AL.; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mahan was predeceased by a daughter, Marilyn M. Mahan and a son, Harry Carl Mahan.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union, SC November 7,1920, a daughter of the late Linder Lee Wade and Gertrude Bryant Wade. She was a charter member of Ottaray Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are two daughters: Rebecca Helms and husband Bobby and Mary McKeowen and husband Walter; a sister, Muriel Mitchell all of Union; four grandchildren: Kathy Plexico and husband Curtis, Niel McKeown and wife Wendy all of Union, Kelly Siltzer and husband Jay of Hendersonville, NC and Elizabeth Kingsmore and husband Vic of Union; seven great-grandchildren: Ashley Gough, Allen Plexico, Kole McKeown, Sydney McKeown, Marah Kingsmore, Cayden Kingsmore all of Union and Malachi Siltzer of Hendersonville and three great-great-grandchildren: Macey Plexico, Ethan Gough and Eli Gough all of Union. Mrs. Lois O'Shields age 72, wife of Lewis P. O'Shields of 2225 Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away suddenly, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. O'Shields was born in West Port, CT, June 17, 1938 a daughter of the late Mike Olderman. She the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are several special friends: Eugene and Willie Holcombe and children, George and Tami Solis and children, Kristi McGowan and Crystal Arnold and their families.

Ms. Kelly B. Kennerly, age 48, of 104 Longview Heights, Union, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at her home after a brief illness.

Ms. Kennerly was born in Orangeburg, December 19, 1961, a daughter of Nancy Braxton Browning of Union and the late Laurie Lee Browning. She was formerly employed with Heileg Myers and also had worked with an industrial fire equipment company. Ms. Kennerly was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a daughter: Misty Bogan and husband Jimmy of Inman; a son: Jason Kennerly of Columbia; a sister: Sherry Browning of Union; a brother: Rusty Browning of Orangeburg; fourgrandchildren: Julia and Alyson Chaney, Kamryn and Hailey Bogan and several aunts and uncles.

Mr. Phillip David Sullivan, age 51, of 133 Whispering Pines Dr., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 at his home after a period of declining health.

Mr. Sullivan was born in Union, December 9, 1958 a son of the late Glenn and Sandy Moss Sullivan Farmer. He was formerly employed with Timken and Co., Tyger River Plant and was a graduate of Union High School. Mr. Sullivan was a volunteer with Southside Fire Dept. and the Union City Fire Dept. for many years. He coached girls softball at Union Co. High School, Broome High School and for Dixie Youth Girls. Mr. Sullivan was a life long member of Sardis United Methodist Church before recently joining Philippi Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Jennifer Cooper and husband Rocky and Tonya Sullivan all of Union; his former wife of 33 years: Sharon Sullivan of Union; three grandchildren: Kendele Sullivan, Andrew and Maddox Cooper; two brothers: Glenn Sullivan and wife Patty of Buffalo and Eric Sullivan and wife Lori of Bessmer, AL; his step-father: Eddie Farmer andstep-sister: Kathy Farmer Wilbanks and husband Ted all of Union.

J. Ernest O'Shields

Mr. John Ernest O'Shields age 92, widower of Ava Webber B. O'Shields of 390 Putman Rd., Buffalo, passed away, Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mr. O'Shields was born in Buffalo, June 30, 1918, a son of the late Arnold and Pearl Eubanks O'Shields. He was an active member of Putman Baptist Church since 1933, where he was currently the oldest member and had served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and on several other committees of the church. Mr. O'Shields was a veteran of WWII having served as a US Army Sargent in the European Theater participating in the Belgian Bulge. He was a member of American Legion Post # 22 and had not missed a meeting in sixty-six years. Mr. O'Shields was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.

Survivors include a daughter: Jean Smith-Stewart and husband Rufus of Buffalo; a son: Gary Brown and wife Barbara of Piedmont; a sister: Bertie Kingsmore of Buffalo; three grandchildren: Deborah Southard of Greenwood, Mark Smith of Buffalo and Michelle Brown Piedmont; threegreat-grandchildren: Lynn Smith and Kirsten Smith of Buffalo and Gene Smith of Greenwood. Mr. O'Shields was predeceased by a son-in-law: Bobby Smith; a granddaughter: Susan E. Smith and a grandson-in-law: Mike Southard.

Mr. Bobby Ray Gregory, Sr., age 56, husband of Emily Jones Gregory, of211 E. Ferguson St., Clinton, SC passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Dorn VA Medical Center of Columbia after a brief illness.

Mr. Gregory was born in Union, September 24, 1954 a son of the late L.J.

Gregory and Sarah Barron Gregory. He was formerly of Lockhart and had worked for E.W. Longshore of Kinards as a painter. Mr. Gregory was a veteran of the US Army and a member of Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of Clinton.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Mary Beth Lynch and husband William of Clinton and Melissa Conner of Whitmire; one son: Bobby Ray Gregory, Jr. of Clinton; two brothers: Billy K. Gregory, Sr. of Newberry and Gerald Dean Gregory of Lockhart; five grandchildren: Brian and Abigail Conner, Willie, Henry, and Calvin Lynch. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by a brother, Baby Boy Gregory.

Mrs. Burgess was born in Union, SC October 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Luther Gibbs and Bessie Noland Gibbs. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Excel Hosiery Mill. Mrs. Burgess was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Bernice Burgess Inman and husband Torance; two grandchildren: Angela Inman and Amanda Inman Gallman and husband Jeremy; a grandson-in-law, Jamison England; four great-grandchildren: Christen England, Savannah England, Caroline England and Norah Galllman; fivesisters: Jane Arthur, Maria Arthur, Annie Mae Gibbs, Ella Faye Gibbs and Barbara Jean Smith and husband Ralph all of Union. Mrs. Burgess was predeceased by a granddaughter, Regina Inman England.

Mr. James "Burton" Justice, age 77, formally of 167 Riley Rd., Buffalo, widower of Barbara Coleman Justice, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Park Place Assisted Living in Spartanburg.

Mr. Justice was born in Union, SC May 1, 1933, a son of the late Milas and Mary Franklin Justice . He was retired from Milliken Company, and a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he was a member of the men's choir, a former Deacon, former Sunday School Teacher and Director. He also was a member of the American Legion-Post #22. Mr. Justice was the beloved husband of Barbara Coleman Justice for 53 years, a loving father, grandfather and great-grand father.

Survivors are a daughter: Kim Smith and husband Johnny of Boiling Springs; two sons: Scott Justice and wife Nora of Greer and Todd Justice of Buffalo; three sisters: Bernice Falls, Alma Justice and Jessie McClure all of Union; 5 grandchildren: Blair Tarlton, Carson Blackstone both of Boling Springs, Katie Justice of Union, Amber Justice and Ashley Justice both of Buffalo; 2 great-grandchildren: Ashlyn Blackstone and Ryder Tarlton both of Boiling Springs and a special nieces, Tracey Wells West of Lexington. Mr. Justice was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers.
