Jo Ann Wells
Formerly of Pacolet

Ms. Jo Ann Allen Wells, age 73, formerly of Pacolet, SC, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at White Oak Manor in Spartanburg.

Ms. Wells was born in Spartanburg County, SC February 7, 1937, the only child of the late Lawrence Allen and Susie White Allen Jones. She retired from Inman Mills.

Mrs. Wells was a loving mother to her daughter, Wanda Wells Pressley and husband Steve and also to her two sons: Terry Wells and Dennis Wells and wife Julie all of Pacolet. She was " MeMa" to her five grandchildren:

Kelly Pressley White (David), Richard Wells (Jessica), Jordan, Mackenzey and Ellison Wells and to her three great-grandchildren, Kaden, Madison and Mason, she was "Ma". Ms. Wells was predeceased in addition to her parents by her step-father, Johnnie Jones.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Andrew Carrigan. Burial will be in White Rose Cemetery, Pacolet.

Visitation will be held 12:00-1:30 PM in the chapel Saturday prior to the service.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Wanda and Steve Pressley, 120 Noble Drive, Pacolet, SC 29372.

Ada Mae Phipps
Formerly of Buffalo

Mrs. Ada Mae Parham Phipps, age 85, formerly of Buffalo, widow of Leonard Phipps, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Phipps was born in Spartanburg County, SC February 10, 1925, a daughter of the late Charles Parham and Iowa Kerly Parham. She retired from Ellen Sagar Nursing Home as a nursing assistant and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Phipps was the last surviving member of her immediate family,

Surviving are a son, Sam Phipps and wife Pam of Union; two

grandchildren: Deana Erwin of Jonesville and Stacy Phipps and wife Lisa of Cherryville, NC; four great-grandchildren: Tonya and Cassie Erwin of Jonesville, Molly and Ben Phipps of Cherryville, NC. Mrs. Phipps was predeceased by a son, Harold Dean Phipps.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, October 29, 2010 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess.

The family at the home of her son, Sam and Pam Phipps, 212 North Mountain Street, Union where they will receive friends 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday evening.

William Berry Blue
Union, SC

Mr. William Berry "Bud" Blue, age 77, husband of Wilma B. Blue of 123 Mt. Vernon Church Rd., Union, SC went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Blue was born in Carthage, NC May 13, 1933, a son of the late C.B. Blue and Pearl Evans Blue. He was a graduate of Presbyterian Junior College and High Point University earning a BS in Business Administration and received his Masters Degree from East Carolina University. Mr. Blue was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Union where he was a member of the Young Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Blue's greatest joy was his family and basketball.

Surviving in addition to his wife Wilma of fifty-one years are a daughter, Donna Kay Holcombe and husband Scott of Great Bridge, VA; three grandsons: Jacob Blue, William Ryan and Gary Scott Holcombe all of Great Bridge, VA; four sisters: Janet Lilley and husband Shelton of Monroe, NC, Martha Pierce of Kernesville, NC, Buna McLeod of Carthage, NC and Alicia Caison of Clinton, NC. Mr. Blue was predeceased by two sisters: Sylvia Foy and Ann Matthews and two brothers: Calvin Benton and Willard Clay Blue.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Robert Alexander.

Visitation will be held 10:00-10:45 AM Wednesday in the ladies parlor of the church prior to the service.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Culdee Presbyterian Church Cemetery, West End, NC, conducted by Rev. Dr. Thomas Currie

Visitation will be held immediately following the graveside service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Henry L. McKinnney
Union, S.C.

Mr. Henry League McKinney, age 90, husband of JoAnne Lawson McKinney of 102 Birchwood Dr., Union, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mr. McKinney was born in Greenville, March 1, 1920, a son of the late Perry and Sally League McKinney. He formerly owned the Cane Creek Campground at Lake Greenwood, was a volunteer with Cross Hill Fire Dept and a former member of the Rabon Creek Water Board. Mr. McKinney was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church of Union. He was first married to the late Ann Beeks McKinney.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a step-daughter: Lynn S. Pritchett of W. Columbia; a sister: Virginia Putman of Fountain Inn; two brothers: Ansel McKinney of Simpsonville and Robert McKinney of Greenville; a grandson: Henry League "Mackie" McKinney, III and wife Mona Lee of Greenwood; two step-grandsons: Jordan Palshan of Panama City, FL and Chase Palshan of W. Columbia; a step-granddaughter: Carly Palshan of W. Columbia. Mr. McKinney was predeceased by a son: Henry L. "Mack" McKinney, II.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville conducted by Rev. Spencer Ledford. Burial will follow in the cemetery with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Bobby Putman, Maxie Putman, Ricky Beeks, Vern Verna, Rock Hudson, Lindsey Cole and Lamar McKinney.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the chapel.

Christine T. Rhymer
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Christine Treadway Rhymer, age 95, widow of Morris Rhymer, Sr. of 869 Hawkins Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010.

Mrs. Rhymer was born in Madison Co. NC, July 8, 1915, a daughter of the late Hezekiah and Hattie Fore Treadway. She was raised in the Excelsior community of Union and worked in textile plants in both Union and Greenwood. Mrs. Rhymer had also worked a number of years with Ellen Sagar Nursing Home in Union and was the oldest member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rhymer loved to cook, bake cakes and make candy. She often took cake and candy to friends in the community. Wishie Hines wrote an article in the Union Times on Feb. 8, 2006 referring to her as the "CANDY LADY" and commented on her delicious homemade candy. Mrs. Rhymer was a devoted Christian mother and loved Jesus.

Surviving are a son: Morris O. "Sonny" Rhymer, Jr. and wife Betty Swanson Rhymer of Greer, SC; one sister: Ruby Treadway Ferguson of Lexington, SC; six grandchildren: Don Rhymer, Jr. of La Canada, CA, Steven A. Rhymer of Moore, SC, Roger E. Rhymer of Spartanburg, SC, Travis O. Rhymer of Boiling Springs, SC, Morris Richard "Ricky" Rhymer of Boiling Springs, SC, and Kelly Svagr of Charlotte, NC and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son: Donald Eugene Rhymer; two sisters: Elvie Treadway Cranford and Opal Treadway Relyea and a brother, Clarence E. "Shorty" Treadway.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Rhymer, Steve Rhymer, Roger Rhymer, Don Rhymer, Jr., Dalton Rhymer, Tony Cranford, and Travis Rhymer.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening and will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM Sunday to await the hour of service.

Mr. Bobby Everette Lawson, age 80 of 125 Lawson Rd., Union, SC died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Lawson was born in Union, SC July 18, 1930, a son of the late Willie E. Lawson and Carrie Lucille Bates Lawson. He retired from Torrington Company and was a Veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War. Mr. Lawson was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Susan L. Kaufholz and husband Jerry, Janice L. Knox and husband Ricky and Jill L. Moss all of Union; a sister, Shirley Green; a brother; Wayne Lawson both of Union; five grandchildren: Blake Knox of Jonesville, Brad Smith of Pelzer, Stacey Owens of Boiling Springs, Lee Smith of Jonesville and Kevin Kaufholz and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Lawson was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Lawson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 22, 2010 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery with Military Honors.

Merle Smith Crocker
Retired Teacher

Mrs. Audrey Merle Smith Crocker, age 85, formerly of Union and Presbyterian Home, Clinton, SC died Friday, October 15, 2010 at the family home, 497 Strother Rd., Union. Mrs. Crocker was the widow of Robert Johnson Crocker, Jr.

Mrs. Crocker was born in Norway, SC November 15, 1924, the daughter of the late Solomon Herbert Smith and Juddie Lou Phillips Smith. She was a 1945 graduate of Winthrop College, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Clemson Extension. Mrs. Crocker retired as Home Economics teacher in the Union County Schools after thirty years of service. She was a member of Cane Creek Presbyterian Church in the Santuc Community where she was a member of the choir, served as a Sunday School teacher and as an active member of the Women of the Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Linda Crocker Goings and husband George of Union and Dr. Laura Crocker Koskela and husband Steve of Union; a son, Dr. Thomas Pressley Crocker and wife Cindy of Anderson; grandchildren: Melanie Goings Campbell and husband John James of Boiling Springs, Robert F. Goings and wife Rebecca of Columbia, Anna Catherine Crocker of Charleston, Benjamin H. Crocker, Audrey Ann Crocker both of Anderson, Margaret Greene French and husband Brian of Summerville, Charlotte T. Greene of Union and Bria Burke Koskela of Summerville and a great-grandchild, Pressley Ann Campbell of Boiling Springs. Mrs. Crocker was predeceased in addition to her husband and parents by a brother, Solomon Melville Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Cane Creek Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Bob Gant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Donald "Bud" Parrish
Jonesville, SC

Mr. Donald "Bud" Parrish, age 75, widower of Judy K. Parrish, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Parrish was born Greer, SC October 8, 1945, a son of the late Ralph and Daisy Mattison Parrish. He was of a graduate of Byrnes High School and University of South Carolina Pharmacy School and worked for Scott Brothers Drug Store in Jonesville, SC as a pharmacist for forty-nine years. Mr. Parrish was of the Methodist faith and an avid Gamecock fan.

Survivors are his significant other: Avenelle Harris of Jonesville; a daughter: Tish Phillips of Georgia; a son: Scott Parrish of Georgia; a sister Linda Partridge of Arkansas; two brothers: Joe Parrish of Greer; and Ken Parrish of Inman; grandchildren: Justin Phillips (Santana) of Pacolet, Lindsay Brigman of Cowpens, Kendall Deal, Alex Deal and Kelli Reeves all of Spartanburg; great grandchildren: Brayden and Bryson Stiffel of Spartanburg and Jalee Champion of Cowpens. Mr. Parrish was predeceased by a daughter: Robin Moore and a brother: Hue Parrish.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Dennis Tessnear.

Mrs. Wilma Sellers Lane, age 83, of 204 Cambridge Drive, Union, SC, died peacefully Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Taylors, SC surrounded by her family and friends. Mrs. Lane was married for fifty-six years to the late Solomon Wesley Lane.

Mrs. Lane was born in Hazlehurest, Ga, August 24, 1927, a daughter of the late Clifton and Mary Sellers. She was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and also a member of the YMCA in Union.

Surviving are three daughters: June Jones and husband Donald of Columbia, Karen McNeace and husband Mac of Taylors and Shannon Revels and Eddie Gilbert of Union; a sister, Eudine Carter of Broxton, Ga; six grandchildren: Heather Pruit and husband Shane of Spartanburg, Katey Hiott and husband Tyler of Taylors, Wesley Wiseman of Gastonia, Zack Revels of Whitmire, Karey Parisi of Hudson, NC and Shelby Gilbert of Union and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lane was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Earl A. McCoy, age 98, widower of Bertha Harris McCoy, of 514 Lakeview Heights died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. McCoy was born in Charlotte, NC October 31, 1911, a son of the late Lee McKay and Sarah Elizabeth Dickens McKay Carter. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII, as a member of the US Army Medical Corp in France and German. Mr. McCoy was a member of VFW, the American Legion post 22 and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters: Janice M. Jackson Parks, and Earline M. Stewart (Wayne) of Union; three sons: Steve McCoy (Sherry), Gerald L. McCoy (Connie) both of Union and Bruce McCoy (Randi) of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and one brother; Horace Carter of Union. Mr. McCoy was predeceased by five brothers: Paul McCoy, Willie McCoy, Charlie McCoy, Jim McCoy and Martin McCoy; four sisters: Myrtle Busbee, Edna C. Pruitt Sinclair, Margaret C. Hyatt, and Nellie C. Middlebrooks.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 15, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Chapel conducted by Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Miss Melinda Ann Childers, age 48, of 3669 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Miss Childers was born in Union County, November 19, 1961, a daughter of the late Vernon Lewis and Helen McSwain Childers. She was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church. Miss Childers was a loving sister who will be greatly missed.

Surviving are a sister: Mary Lanier and husband Gerald of Lockhart; a brother: Daniel Childers, Sr. of Union; two nephews: Jackie Lanier and Daniel Childers, Jr.; and a sister-in-law: Virginia Childers.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Frank Cantrell.

Mr. Chalmers Ray "Pete" Gibson, age 71, husband of Audrey Taylor Gibson, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Warren Patrick Hospice House.

Mr. Gibson was born in Union, April 4, 1939, a son of the late Miles Leroy "Roy" Gibson and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Gregory Gibson. He was a high school graduate and retired from The Ford Motor Company in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Gibson was a member of Hickory Grove Church of God in Hickory Grove.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Joyce A. Campbell, Janice I Loyd both of Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth A Boggs of York; two sons: Danny R Gibson and wife Nancy of Lockhart and Billy R. Campbell of Charlotte, NC; four sisters: Azilee Ashe and Betty Horton both of Lockhart and Lena Ramsey and Doris Inman both of Sharon; four brothers: Guy Gibson, Harold Gibson, Donald Gibson all of Sharon, and Marvin Gibson of Hickory Grove, SC; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Gibson was predeceased by one brother: Robert Gibson and one sister: Frances Cruse.

Mrs. Mary Jo Vinson Hudson, age 68, wife of Paul Everett Hudson, of Lot 3, 134 Ferguson Dr., Union, in the Cross Keys community, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Hudson was born in Union County November 24, 1941, a daughter of the late Joe Vinson and Sarah Kendrick Craine. Mrs. Hudson was a member of Padgetts Creek Baptist Church and retired from Inman Mills in Enoree.

Surviving in addition to her husband are five daughters: Julie Ann Mason of Fountain Inn, Mary Jane Anthony of Buffalo, Jon Skelton of Mauldin, Sonya Faye Lawter and husband Jeff and Marissa Renee Hudson all of Cross Keys; two sons; Thomas Doyle Anthony of Fountain Inn and Michael Ray Anthony of Blacksburg; two sisters: Nancy Hudson of Enroee and Patricia Ann Hughes of Woodruff; one brother: William E. "Bill' Vinson of Union; grandchildren: Amy Norris of Spartanburg, Christa Fortner of Mauldin, Jessica Nicole Taylor of Buffalo, Elice Mason, C.J. Mason, Anthony Mason, Thomas Doyle Anthony II and Travis Anthony all of Fountain Inn; Paul Nathaniel Lawter, Justin Tyler Lawter and Chance "Sponge Bob" Lawter all of Cross Keys; and four great-grandchildren.

Katherine Rose "Katie" Rollins, age 19 of 9745 Greenpond Rd., Gray Court, passed away October 1, 2010 from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Katie was born in Greenville, September 10, 1991, a daughter of Sandra Clark Rollins of the home and Michael Rollins of Fountain Inn. She attended Greenville Technical College and was employed with The Zone in Simpsonville.

Surviving in addition to her mother and father are a sister: Elisha Rollins of the home; two step-sister: Sophie Rollins of Fountain Inn and Sage Thornton of Greer; a step-brother: Colby Rollins of Greer; a special friend: Tyler Harris of Laurens; two nephews: Christian Rollins and Noah Rollins and a niece: Summer Rollin all of the home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 11, 2010 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, Union SC, conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook.

Carl Patrick
Union, S.C.

Mr. Carl Patrick, age 78, husband of Anne Lawson Patrick of 3307 Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away, Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Patrick was born in Gaffney, September 17, 1932 a son of the late Cecil C. Patrick, Sr. and Lena Allen Patrick. He has been a resident of Union Co. for 70 years. During the Korean War, he served in the US Navy as a Petty Officer. After his military service, he returned to Union Co. where he was very active in business, professional and civic organizations. He served as vice - president of manufacturing of Conso Products, and also served as a Corporate Board member in New York city.

Later Mr. Patrick was co-owner of Klapat Textiles in Union and Chester counties . He retired as general manager of Duraco Products in 2008.

Mr. Patrick was a member of John A. Fant Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, the Union Shrine Club, and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. In the 1980's, Mr. Patrick served extensively with the Hejaz Temple leadership. Mr. Patrick distinguished himself as a shriner by serving as Potentate of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in 1985. He and his wife, Anne, have also been very active in the Union Elks Lodge # 1321.

Named a Palmetto Gentlemen , he had also had the pleasure of being named Kentucky Boss of the Year by the Union Co. Jaycee's, received the distinguished service award by the Union Kiwanis Club, 1980-1981. South Carolina Gov. Richard W. Riley presented Mr. Patrick with the Order of the Palmetto in 1979, for his distinguished service to the business community, his county and his state.

Carl attended Philippi Baptist Church with his wife Anne; he loved his family and many friends. Carl touched many lives with his giving spirit and wisdom. He had a glowing personality and loved life to the fullest.

He enjoyed cooking for family, friends and neighbors, raising his huge gardens, and relaxing at the River Cabin. Mr. Patrick was a father figure not only to his children but to many of their friends and his employees. It can truly be said, he was a true Southern Gentlemen.

Surviving in addition to Anne, his wife for over 50 years, are a daughter: Lisa Ann Britt and husband Bobby of Wildwood, MO; two sons: Robert Carl "Bob" Patrick and wife Joy of Spartanburg, and James David Patrick and wife Debra of Boiling Springs; six grandchildren: Ashley, Maegan, Haley, and Adam Patrick and Tanner and Conner Britt; one sister: Virginia Palmer of Woodruff ; two brothers: Paul Patrick and wife Joyce of Union and Bill Patrick of Moore; a very special friend, Coach Clarence Sanders of Union and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Patrick was predeceased by a brother, Cecil C. Patrick Jr., and a sister, Margaret Freeman.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, October 11, 2010 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale, Rev. Bob Lawson and Rev. Brian Childers. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Patrick, Mike Patrick, Ricky Queen, Mark Patrick, Troy Patrick, Greg Lawson, Lynn Lawson, David Lawson, Scott Lawson and Pat Patrick.

Mr. Gary G. "Whitey" Winzenried, age 60, husband of Rosie Fowler Winzenried of 121 Barnado Rd., Apt 16, Union, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 6, 2010.

Mr. Winzenried was born in Dennison, OH, September 29, 1950 a son of the late Orville Guy Winzenried and Ruth Ann Kramer Winzenried. He was a self-employed residential painter and a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mr. Winzenried served as a Deacon, a Brotherhood Director, Chairman of the Cemetery Commitee, Assistant Sunday School Teacher and was a choir member of Fairforest Baptist.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 40 years are two daughters: Monica Garner and friend Paul Caldwell, and Kayce Bates and husband Wilson all of Union; one son: David "Joey" Winzenried and wife Summer of Pacolet; three sisters: Sue McMillian and husband John and Janet Burdette and husband Bud all of Dennison, OH, Ruth Boak and husband Ted of New Philadelphia, OH; 8 grandchildren: Ashley Winzenried, Adrian "Britt" Garner, Kayson Bates, Kayleigh Bates, Hannah Upton, Joshua Upton, Hayleigh Colberts, Joseph Lee Winzenried Ridings; 1 special great-grandson: Adrian Zy'Quan Winzenried. Mr. Winzenried was predeceased by a son: Gary Guy Winzenried, Jr.

Mr. Kenneth Alan Hill, age 48, husband of Sarah Masters Hill of 445 Stone St. Pacolet Mills, SC, died suddenly Wednesday, October 6, 2010.

Mr. Hill was born in Spartanburg, December 20, 1961 a son of Aline Sprouse Hill of Spartanburg and the late Odell Hill. He was employed with Atlas Van Lines and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons: Jack Hill and Jason Hill both of Gaffney and Jacob Hill of Pacolet; a step-son: Jonathan Miller of Pacolet; and three sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Hammett Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons and friends.

Helen "Hi Boo" Conard

Mrs. Helen Ruth Guinn "Hi Boo" Conard, age 83, of Union, widow of John T. "Bud" Conard, Jr., died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg.

Mrs. Conard was born in Lockhart, SC, October 7, 1926, a daughter of the late Jefferson D. Guinn and Lillian Byars Guinn. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital as a nursing assistant. She attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was a Board Member of Union County Salvation Army for nine years. Mrs. Conard had a passion for volunteer service and helping others. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Conard is survived by a number of nieces and nephews; a special friend and caregiver, Sara Ann Franklin of Lockhart and extended family; Pat and Virgil Simpson, Martin and Janet Gilchrist, Emily Helmick and Tommy Denton. Mrs. Conard was predeceased by three brothers and a sister: Jefferson D. Guinn, Jr, Howard D. Guinn, William Guinn and Virginia Guinn Oliver and a step-mother, Emily "Miss Webber" Guinn.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 8, 2010 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Alan Quarrels. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Agnes H. Laxton, age 92, formerly of Brittany Manor, widow of William Clarence Laxton, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Laxton was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina July 19, 1918, a daughter of the late Will Hayes and Joyce Blackburn Hayes. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are four daughters: Edith Faye Varner of Union, Gail Johnson and husband Doug of Buffalo, Rita Mason and husband Rick of Spartanburg and Laura Joyce Tyler and husband Marion of Virginia Beach, VA; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Laxton was predeceased by two sons: Ray Laxton and Kent Laxton.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 8, 2010 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Jerry Ford and Rev. Robert Chapman. Burial will be in the Kelly Chapel Cemetery. Nora A. "Nonie" Flynn

Mrs. Nora Alston "Nonie" Flynn of Union was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Richland Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Born on January 13, 1935, in Littleton, N.C. to William and Nora Grant Alston ,she graduated from Ashley Hall Boarding School in Charleston and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University before working in New York for the Equitable Life Insurance Company. She married John S. "Jack" Flynn and moved to Union which she made her home.

Nonie was very involved in her community. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where she had served as its Pastor Parish Relations Committee Chair, had served as a G.U.M.C.E.P. Board Chair , was instrumental in renovating its parsonage and was a member of the Circle of Hope. She had been a longtime member and a former president of the Union Cotillion Club, the Criterion Book Club, the DAR, and served on USC-Union Partnership Board.

She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years John Sartor "Jack" Flynn.

She is survived by her daughters Alston Flynn Lippert and Anne Macon Smith and husband Dwight, and by two grandchildren Alston Lee Lippert and Catherine Lippert. Nonie and her family were especially blessed by all those who attended to her during her illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church in Union conducted by the Rev. David Caughman and Rev. Dr. Anthony Gavalas. Internment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Lewis W. Webber, age 86 of 203 Old Chapin Rd., Lexington, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Webber was born in the Sedalia community of Union Co. on May 17, 1924, a son of the late Lowry and Maggie Estes Webber. He was a retired civilian employee with the Dept of the Army having worked in Personnel Management. Mr. Webber was also a veteran with the U.S. Army having served during WWII. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Padgett's Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Steven Lynn Abee, age 53 of 743 Tinker Creek Rd., Union, SC died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Abee was born in Union, SC July 6, 1957, a son of Vernon V. Abee, Jr and Joyce Haney Abee of Union. He was a graduate of Union High School and formerly worked with Laurens County Healthcare System. Mr. Abee enjoyed bottle collecting and was a talented mechanic who could repair most anything. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two daughters: Alison Quaranta (Sean) of Farmingdale, NY and Leigh Abee of Columbia; a son, Jeff Abee (Breanna) of Spartanburg; a sister, Peggy Hollingsworth (Tim) of Union, with whom he made his home during his illness and a special friend, Deb South of Laurens.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Fred Howard, Barry Haney, Johnny Abee, Blake Painter, Jay Weisner, Ken Bolick, Mike Haney and Matthew Abee.

Mrs. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Gault Farr, age 96, of Brittany Manor, Union, SC died Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Farr was born in Union County, SC May 24, 1914, a daughter of the late William Farr and Mary Emma Holcombe Farr. She retired from Milliken & Co - Pacolet Mills and was a member of Foster Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Farr was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Billy Gault and wife Renee of Valdalia, Ga; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Farr was predeceased by a daughter Estelle G. Scruggs and a son, Hoyle Dean Gault.

Funeral services will be held 11: 00 AM Monday, October 4, 2010 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Christopher Greene. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Blanton, Terry Blanton, Justin Blanton, Brian Blanton, Joel Gault and Shannon Gault.
