Ruth T. Wood

Mrs. Headie Ruth Thompson Wood, age 73, wife of Ernest B. “Fuzzy” Wood of 153 Redbud Lane, Jonesville, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center due to heart complications.

Mrs. Wood was born in Union, November 22, 1938, a daughter of the late Willie James Thompson and Annie Mae Horne Thompson. She was a 1958 graduate of Jonesville High School and a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood had worked for Conso Products, Winn Dixie and Wal Mart. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and best friend to her husband.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 49 years are two daughters: Kathrine Jean Wood Winburn and husband Kirk of Rock Hill and Rhonda Wood Bogan and husband David of Spartanburg: one son: Timmy Wayne Wood of Jonesville; a sister: Betty Lou Wood of Union ; two brothers: Billy Thompson of Union and Paul Thompson and wife Virginia of Jonesville; four granddaughters: Kristen Winburn and Kara Winburn both of Rock Hill, Brittany Wood of Jonesville and Kaitlyn Bogan of Spartanburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wood was predeceased by two brothers: Jackie Thompson and Douglas Thompson.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Alan West and Rev. Eddie Smith.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the services.

Dennis Gene Alman
Union, SC

Mr. Dennis Gene Alman, age 61, widower of Rebecca Chalk Alman, formerly of Pineland Road, Union, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Alman was born in Union, SC February 6, 1950, a son of the late James B. Alman and Margaret Evans Alman. He was formerly employed with Springfield, Industries and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church. Mr. Alman was a Veteran of the US Navy and US Air Force.

Surviving are a daughter, Miranda Montgomery and husband Chuck of Spartanburg; a son, Michael Alman and wife Tami of Pauline; two sisters: Cathy Parker and husband Rusty and Patsy Gibson all of Union;two brothers: Ronnie Alman and wife Dawn and Gerald Alman and wife Deanna all of Union; three grandchildren: Skyler Montgomery, Meghan Alman and Ansli Stanford.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman.

The family is at the home of his sister, Cathy and Rusty Parker, 294 Haney Cemetery Rd., Union, where they will receive friends Saturday immediately following the graveside service.

James Edward Newton
Union, SC

Mr. James Edward Newton, age 65, husband of Debra Bersaglia Newton of 302 S. Boyce Street, Union, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Newton was born in Hartford Connecticut September 18, 1946, a son of the late Irving Newton and Melle Kelly Newton. He was a graduate of Union High School and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Newton was a Board Member of the Union County Humane Society and a former member of the Union Jaycee’s. He was employed with Timken & Co-Tyger River Plant and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Gaffney

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Ginnie Newton Ponder and husband Billy of Union; two sons: David Newton and wife Stephanie of Parker, Colorado and Adam Newton of Union; a sister, Pam Phipps and husband Sam; a brother, Charles Newton all of Union; three grandchildren: Garrett Ponder, Melle Ponder both of Union and Reece Newton of Parker, Colorado. Mr. Newton was predeceased by a sister, Ann Rhymer and a brother, Tom Newton.

Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 30, 2011 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Father Michael McCafferty.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Ginnie and Billy Ponder, 405 W. South Street, Union.

Hazel Bishop Trent
Union, SC

Mrs. Hazel Bishop Trent, age 84, widow of Franklin W. Trent, formerly of Trent Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Oakmont of Union.

Mrs. Trent was born in Union County, SC May 25, 1927, a daughter of the late Fred Roper Bishop and Julia Lawson Bishop. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Graham Flowers. Mrs. Trent was a member of Lower Fairforest Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are five nieces: Connie McCoy (Gerald), Julie Hart (Jim) all of Union, Pat Gault of Pauline, Bonnie Elliott of Simpsonville and Pam Hendry (Sandy) of Anderson and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Trent was predeceased by three sisters.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Cunningham and Rev. Josh Freeman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Donald Hawkins, Leonard Smith, James Wicks, Roger Bishop, Wayne Bishop and Lindsey Bishop. Nurses and staff of Oakmont Nursing Home are asked to serve as the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held in the church immediately following the committal service.

Randall N. Sanford
Union, SC

Mr. Randall N. Sanford, age 64, husband of Tanya “LuLu” Hucks Sandford, 610 Toney Rd., Union, passed away, Friday, December 23, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Sanford was born in Oconee Co., SC, March 19, 1947 a son of Thomas N. Sanford and Ida Ramey Sanford.

He was a retired from Milliken Co. and was member a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Michael Sanford of Union; a sister: Florence Carrey of Easley; three brothers: J.C. Sanford of Liberty, Dewitt Sanford of West Minister, and Floyd Sanford of Wahalla; two brothers-in-law: Willard “Snowball” Hucks and Roger Wayne Hucks both of Union; a grandson: Dillon Cribbs and a granddaughter: Ally Sanford both of Union; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Sanford was predeceased by three sisters: Mary Peasley, Frances Owens and Blondell Wilson and a brother: Nathan Sanford.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, December 26, 2011 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale, Rev. Robert Scott, and Rev. Shawn Murphy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Monday at the church prior to the services.

Louise C. Williams
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Louise C. Williams age 88, wife of Rev. Boyd H. Williams of 228 Walker Heights, Union, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 21, 2011.

Mrs. Williams was born May 25, 1923 a daughter of the late Walter Erwin Cooper and Lois Elizabeth Tucker Cooper. She was retired from Milliken and Co., Monarch Plant and was a member of Hillside Baptist Church (formerly Sumner Memorial Baptist).

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Judy Peigler Dorsey and Brenda Williams Baker and husband Ralph all of Union; three sons: Wayne Williams and wife Brenda and Jimmy Williams and wife Dianne all of Buffalo, and Charles Williams and wife Martha of Union; six sisters: Frances Austin and Martha Winchester both of Union, Mabel Benton of Monroe, NC, Malinda Benfield, Margie Caldwell and Betty Richards all of Mooresville, NC; a daughter-in-law: Fran Peigler of Charlotte, NC; 14 grandchildren: Robert W. Williams, Kathy Woods, Ellymae Smith, Robert and John Williams, Frankie, Jon, and Ron Peigler, April West, Jennifer Robertson, Kim Millwood, Cindy Walton, Audrey O’Shields and Ondrea Sprouse; 26 great-grandchilderen; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was predeceased by a son: Earl Peigler; two sisters: Virginia Cooper and Juanita Inman and two brothers: John Cooper and Walter Glenn Cooper.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, December 26, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Dewayne Rueter. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Robert W. Williams, Robert C. Williams, John Williams, Roger Sumner, Jon Peigler, Brad West and Ron Peigler.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM Monday prior to the service in the chapel.

Mamie A. Carter
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Mamie Adams Carter, age 83, widow of James D. Carter, formerly of Toney Rd., Union, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Carter was born in Winnsboro, February 5, 1928 a daughter of the late Lee and Frances Peak Adams. She was a graduate of Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. Mrs. Carter was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and was had previously volunteered with the Union Co. Red Cross.

Surviving are a son: James Allen Carter of North Carolina; a sister: Joyce Ayers of Maggie Valley, NC ; a granddaughter: Jennifer Paige Carter of Duncan and a great-grandson: Justin Carter. Mrs. Carter was predeceased by four sons: Billy Carter, Randy Carter, David Carter and Jesse “Bunny” Carter.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Allen Gregory and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be at Fairforest Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service in the chapel.

Randy Davis Coone
Union, SC

Mr. Randy Davis Coone, age 64, husband of Carol Wike Coone of 108 Springdale Drive, Union, SC passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Coone was born in Statesville, NC January 31, 1947, a son of the late Edward Davis Coone and Oretha Smith Coone. He was a 1965 graduate of Statesville Senior High School and was employed with Sonoco of Union. Mr. Coone was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of several fishing clubs and was a Veteran of the US Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kelly Boyd and her fiancé Stacy Gowan of Jonesville; a son Mark Coone of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters, Crysta Coone of Union and Bella Gowan of Jonesville; two grandsons: Cameron Coone and his fiancé Jessica Kirby of Jonesville and Dylan Boyd of Jonesville; a great-grandson, Casen Johnson of Union; a daughter, Ginger Cannon of Williamsburg, SC; a sister, Denise Horton of Mooresville, NC; a niece, Danielle Fassett and her husband Cory and children Chloe, Smith and Isaac of Hartsville; a nephew, Josh Horton and his wife Kim of Concord, NC. Mr. Coone was predeceased by an infant son, John Wesley Coone.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Oakbrook Community Church conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be James Michael McDade, Jr., Matt Simmons, Tommy Simmons, Terry Heatherly, Adam Fincher, Rick Gault, Tony Addis and David Heatherly.

Robert M. Craig
Buffalo, S.C.

Mr. Robert Moore Craig, age 84, widower of Vermelle Brewington Craig, of 121 Jennings Circle, Buffalo, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.

Mr. Craig was born in the Sedalia community of Union Co., September 15, 1927, a son of the late John and Bessie Bailey Craig. He was a retired construction and sheet metal worker and a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mr. Craig was a veteran of the US Army having served his country in Germany during WWII.

Surviving are a daughter: Linda Craig and friend Ricky Baldwin of Union; three sons: Wayne Craig and wife Karen of Joanna, Ronnie Craig and wife Perky of Clinton and Guy Craig of Buffalo; two brothers: Edward Craig and wife Lucille of Sedalia and Lewis Craig and wife Lollie of Spartanburg; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mr. Craig was predeceased by two daughters: Peggy Grushman and Elizabeth Craig; a son: Ricky Craig; a sister: Lavonia Smith; two brothers: Luther and Roger Craig and a grandson: Donnie Baldwin.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Allen Gregory and Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Fairforest Baptist Church cemetery with Military Honors.

Mr. Craig’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

The family will be at the home of his granddaughter, Linda and Brian Brock, 132 Short St., Union, where they will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Nora S. Adams
Santuc, S.C.

Mrs. Nora Elizabeth Sherbert Adams, age 87, widow of Thomas Mac Adams, of 1812 Tinker Creek Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Regional Hospice Home of Spartanburg after a long illness.

Mrs. Adams was born in Pauline, January 3, 1924, a daughter of the late William Carlisle Sherbert and Alber Louise Smith Sherbert. She was a graduate of West Spings High School and Cecil’s Business College in Spartanburg. Mrs. Adams formerly worked for Excelsior Textile Mill and later worked with her husband at Adams Country Store in Santuc. She retired after 25 years with Palmetto Drugs in Union. Mrs. Adams was a member of Salem Baptist Church and had formerly attended Carlisle Methodist Church.

Surviving are a sister: Lottie Sherbert Estes of Spartanburg and numerous nieces and nephews including: Pat Estes White and husband Don of Anderson, Debbie Estes Auerbach and husband Bruce of Baltimore, MD, Doris Ann Vinson Petty of Union and Janie Vinson Dellinger and husband Charles of Greenville; special friends: Anne Adams and Barbara Epps both of Santuc. On 11-22-11, her namesake great-great-niece “ Little Nora” Kate Shealy of Daniel Island was born. Mrs. Adams was predeceased by four sisters: Mary Sherbert, Annie Smith, Louise Lawson, and Maudie Vinson McLellan and by four brothers: Caleb, Dansel, Tom, and Sammie Sherbert.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Salem Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Wiseman and Rev. Josh Freeman. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Joe McDonald, Joe Fields Adams, III, Francis “Bunk” Crocker, Leonard Green, Adam Petty, Joey Lawson, and David Turner.

Vivian M. Boyle

Mrs. Vivian Marie Mitchell Boyle, age 74, widow of John T. “Tommy” Boyle, of 368 E. Frontage Rd., Aiken, formerly of Mitchell Rd., Union, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Boyle was born in Union, March 20, 1937, a daughter of the late Clyde and Lillie Mae Wilson Mitchell. She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Stouffer’s Foods in Gaffney. Mrs. Boyle was previously employed with Milliken and Co. and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Donna Boyle of Union; two sons: Stanley Boyle and wife Debra of Union and Ronnie Boyle and wife Nancy of Aiken; two brothers: Marion Mitchell of Columbia and Benny Mitchell of Atlanta, GA; three cherished grandchildren: Amanda Boyle, Ronald Boyle and Megan Garcia. Mrs. Boyle was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Bradley Boyle and a brother, Bud Mitchell.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, December 19, 2011 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Lewis.

Mrs. Bernice Roberts Bush, age 82, widow of John Lee Bush, Jr. of 757 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord, December 15, 2011, after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Bush was born in Hartsville, February 28, 1929, a daughter of the late William Terry Roberts and Hattie Evelyn Strickland Roberts. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she previously was a Sunday School teacher in the primary department.

Surviving are two sons: Ricky Lee Bush and wife Cindy of Guntersville, AL, and Larry Steven Bush of Danville, VA; two brothers: Billy Roberts and wife Betty of Union, and Bobby Roberts of Flint, MI; a brother-in-law: Horace Earls and a sister-in-law: Bernice Roberts both of Union: seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bush was predeceased by three sisters: Gaynell Ray, Margaret Earls and Betty Jean Eubanks; and three brothers: Ed, Coleman and Leroy Roberts.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Elder James Mumford.

Donald Glenn Garner

Mr. Donald Glenn Garner, age 81, widower of Evelyn Faucett Garner, of 1821 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away, Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg.

Mr. Garner was born in Kelton, January 3, 1930, a son of the late Davis Roy Garner and Bessie Adams Garner. He attended Kelly Pinckney High School and was retired from Milliken and Company. Mr. Garner was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of Mt.Joy Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class.

Surviving are a son: Ronald Glenn Garner; a granddaughter: Lamanda Elaine Garner; a great-grandson: Kanye Dillard all of the home; four sisters: Nathalee Comer of Hendersonville, NC, Betty Harvey of Jonesville; Joyce Blakely and Patsy Garner both of Columbia. Mr. Garner was predeceased by three sisters: Thelma Thrasher, Margaret Howell, Lou Jean Knox and four brothers: Wilbur, Everette, Hershal and Thomas Leonard Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 16, 2011 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan West. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Member of the Men’s Bible Class of Mt. Joy are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the services.

Mrs. Dottie Mae Jenkins Smith, age 84, wife of Monroe Smith of 106 Pleasant View Drive, Union, passed away Monday, December 12, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Little Washington, VA July 24, 1927, a daughter of the late Stanfield Jenkins and Neil Jenkins. She was a member of the Greater Union Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Pat Gibson and husband Thomas and Barbara Medford and husband Billy all of Union; a sister, Elsie McGovern of Front Royal, VA; four grandchildren: Tracy Mason and husband Jeff of Jonesville, Leslie Gibson and fiance Andy, Daniell Bennett and husband Chris all of Union and Dustin Medford of Parris Island; three great-grandchildren: Kensley Hill, Hannah Hill and Mason Bennett all of Union. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by two sons, Charles and Ricky and a granddaughter, Tara Smith.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the Greater Union Church conducted by Rev. Roger Estes. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Hazel Vinson Lawson
Union, SC

Mrs. Hazel Vinson Lawson, age 91, widow of Clifford Lawson, went to be with the Lord and her husband Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Union, SC., October 31, 1920, a daughter of the late Grover Vinson and Nancy Ruth Faucett Vinson. She was a faithful member of Putman Baptist Church and a member of the Guiding Light Sunday School Class. Mrs. Lawson retired from the United Merchants Plant-Union and loved her family, flowers, yard work and her church.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Lawson is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and special friends: James and Annie Hunter.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Putman Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Rick Henderson, Rev. Donald Tillman and Mr. Stephen Regan.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her nephews and great nephews.

The family will receive friends in the church following the service.

Mrs. Brenda Horne Sanders, age 68, widow of Arnold Dan Sanders, formerly of Jonesville, SC., died Friday, December 9, 2011, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Union, SC., January 22, 1943, a daughter of the late Grady Horne and Annie Belle Horne. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and a member of Gilead Baptist Church. Mrs. Sanders retired from Union County Schools having worked as a teachers’ assistant.

Surviving are a daughter; Suzann Sanders and Neal Armstrong of Jonesville; a granddaughter and grandson, Summer and Phillip Armstrong of Jonesville. Mrs. Sanders was predeceased by a daughter Danette S. Atkins and a sister Etta Sue Horne.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, December 12, 2011 at Gilead Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Cooke.

The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Linda Sweezy West, age 62, widow of Samuel Dean West, of 211 Webber Lake Rd. Union, died Friday, December 9, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Mrs. West was born in Union, SC, August 18, 1949, a daughter of the late Leonard Sweezy and Pauline Martin Sweezy. She was a graduate of Union High School and a member of New Life Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women of Faith Sunday School Class and a former member of the church choir.

Surviving are a daughter; Stacey West Gault and husband Thom of Mt Pleasant; a son, Paul Dean West and wife Molly of Charleston, SC; a sister, June Sweezy Elders of Union, 2 brothers; Richard (Rick) Sweezy and Edward (Eddie) Sweezy both of Union; 2 grandsons, Sam Gault and George Gault of Mt Pleasant and a granddaughter, Maryjane West of Charleston.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 12, 2011 at New Life Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rick Dizbon. Internment will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Jeff Cannon , Jake West, Davey West, Ryan West, Jason Sweezey, Matthew Sweezy and Russell Stribling. The following are ask to assemble at the church at 12:45 PM Monday to form the honorary escort Lamar Stribling, Robbie Stribling and Tim Fowler.

Miles Cleve “Joe” Duncan

Mr. Miles Cleve “Joe” Duncan, age 81, husband of Sara O’Shields Duncan of 467 Putman Rd., Buffalo, passed away, Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Regional Hospice Home of Spartanburg.

Mr. Duncan was born in Pelham, June 12, 1930, a son of the late T.J. Duncan and Willie Mae Harris Duncan. He was retired from United Merchants, Union Mill and was a member of Putman Baptist Church. Mr. Duncan was an avid gardner and a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his devoted wife of over 59 years are three daughters: Teresa Duncan of Clinton, Gail Duncan Berry and husband Donnie of Roebuck and Sherri Duncan of Buffalo; a brother: John Duncan of Union; two grandchildren: Danielle Berry Wallington and husband Zachary of Moore and Cody Berry of Roebuck; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Duncan was predeceased by a son, Terry Wayne Duncan; two brothers: Theron Duncan and Otis Duncan and two sisters: Juanita Heatherly and Nell West.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Rick Henderson and Rev. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jerry Burgess, Alvis West, Trey Newton, Jason Ivey, Brad Lawson, and Earl Evans. Mrs. Alpha Mae Farr Cudd, age 95 of 140 Pineview Rd., Union, widow of Furman Cudd, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Cudd was born in Adamsburg, SC July 25, 1916, a daughter of the late James Farr and Hattie Shook Farr. She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church and also attended Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley C. Austin of the home; a son-in-law, Bobby Joe Smith of Greenville; a sister, Ruby F. Evans of Union; three grandchildren: Carolyn Yarbrough and husband Johnny of Union, Twyla Proctor of Jonesville and Joey Smith and wife Angie of Greenville; seven great-gandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cudd was predeceased by a daughter, Freida C. Smith; two grandsons, Aaron Blake Austin and Andy Ray Smith and two great-granddaughters, Denni Arrington Lawson and Andrea Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2011 at SR Holcombe Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Rev. Allen Gregory. A private burial will be held at Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the chapel immediately following the service.

Mrs. Georgia Raines Henderson, age 87, wife of Carlisle Henderson, formerly of 400 W. Hillcrest Ave., Union, passed away, Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Cook Co., TN, March 27, 1924, a daughter of the late William and Allie Greene Raines. She was a retired registered nurse and was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Henderson was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was very active in mission work through her church.

Surviving are a son: Tommy Henderson and wife Susan of Union; two grandchildren: Jennifer H. Bartel and husband Jon of Charleston and Rock Henderson and wife Betsy of Fayetteville, NC; two great-grandchildren: Jaymes Amarise Bartel and Jayden Alexandria Bartel; a special niece and nephew: Susan Raines Bagnal and Steve Raines both of Winston Salem, NC. Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by two brothers: Stokley Raines and Bill Raines and two sisters: Virginia and Roxanne.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 9, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke.

Visitation will be held immediately following the service.

Mrs. Kathleen Justice Maness, age 81, widow of Doyle Mason Maness of 118 Old Hickory Rd., Buffalo, passed away, Monday, December 5, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Maness was born in Spartanburg Co., March 12, 1930, a daughter of the late Aden Benjamin “Buck” Justice and Mae Waldrop Justice. She was a graduate of Union High School and the University of South Carolina, Nursing Program. Mrs. Maness retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital as a registered nurse and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Kathy Roberts and husband Mike of Utah; three sons: Steve Maness and wife Janice of Buffalo, Carl Maness, and Aaron Maness of the home; three sisters: Nancy Fowler, Linda Grant and husband Don all of Spartanburg and Janice Ponder of Moore; a brother: William Justice and wife Lois of Greenville; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Maness was predeceased by a son: David Maness and a brother: Harold “Gene” Justice.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Kenneth Cash. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.

Mrs. Martha Virginia Camby Goings, age 82, widow of Isaac Martin Goings, Jr., of 223 Hickory Ridge Rd., Jonesville, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 1, 2011.

Mrs. Goings was born in Cherokee Co., SC, February 13, 1929, a daughter of the late Oscar Lee Camby and Mattie Connor Camby. She was retired from Union County School System, Jonesville Elementary and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Happy Hearts Group.

Surviving are two daughters: Leslie Goings of the home, and Patti Goings Jackson of Jonesville; two sons: Robin Goings and wife Lisa and Russell Goings and wife Celena all of Jonesville; two sisters: Elsie Harvey and husband Willie and Doris Lamb and husband Marshall all of Pacolet; four grandchildren: Shane Goings of Union, Clint Goings of the home, Coley Jackson and Josie Jackson both of Jonesville; two great-grandsons: Connor Goings and Cade Goings both of Union; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Jonesville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Camby, Brian Camby, Danny Moore, Chuck Bennett, Barry Harvey, and Drew Sanders.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Miss Eloise Beulah Johnson of 1228 Arthur Blvd., Union, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Miss Johnson was born in Union Co. , a daughter of the late Glenn D. Johnson, Sr. and Beulah Thomas Johnson. She was a graduate of Union High School and had attended college. Miss Johnson retired after 42 years as co-owner of Gregory’s Clothing Store in Union and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving are many special friends including, Bobby Jean and Harold Lawson of Union, Sylvia Wix of Jonesville and Katherine Willard also of Union. Miss Johnson was predeceased by a sister: Helen Sarah Johnson and a brother: Glenn D. Johnson, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. David Caughman and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the church parlor from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the services.
