Bill Kelly

Mr. Bill Kelly, age 74 of 1777 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., (Kelton Community) Jonesville, SC died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Kelly was born in Kelton, SC February 8, 1937, a son of the late James Barto Kelly and Ossie Mae Proctor Kelly. He retired from Bridges Cable Company and was a farmer. Mr. Kelly was a member of Foster Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sisters: Ann Ferguson and husband William Frank of Lancaster, SC and Geraldine “Jerry” Jenkins of Clemson; a sister-in-law, Frances Lipford Kelly of Lancaster; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Kelly was predeceased in addition to his parents by two brothers: William Ashby Kelly and James Ellis Kelly; a brother-in-law, Robert L. Jenkins and a beloved dog, Ralph.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Fosters Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dr.Jim Spencer.

Visitation will be held immediately following the graveside service.

Memorials may be made to Fosters Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 392 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville, SC 29353.

Ronnie E. Burris
Union, SC

Mr. Ronnie Eugene Burris, age 61, husband of Wanda Finney Burris of 111 Corn Street, Union, SC died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at VA Dorn Medical Center, Columbia, SC.

Mr Burris was born in Union County, SC August 27, 1949, a son of the late Adam Lee Burris and Eula Mae Brannon Burris. He was a Veteran of the US Army; a textile worker and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife Wanda, are three daughters: Marie B. Stanley (Jamie) of Greer, Joie Lister (Ray) of Greer and Bailey Burris of Union; a son, Kevin Poole of Greer; three sisters: Lynn B.Ivey (Ben) of Union, Sandra Vinson (Jimmy) and Marlene Jennings (Clyde) all of Union; a brother, Ted Burris of Union; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr Burris was predeceased by a brother, David Burris.

Services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, February 28, 2011 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Kenny Weaver. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Scotty Burris, Mark Ivey, Neal Burris, Ronnie Garner, Everette Greene, Glenn Berry and Shane Jennings. The following are asked to assemble at the chapel at 2:45 PM to form the Honoray Escort: Steve Ward, Eddie Berry, Dennis Gault, Lewis Gault, Roger Davis, Allen Owens, Ronald Maness, Buck Kendrick, Larry Evans, Jackie Knox, Lendale Knox, Brent Knox, Robert Queen.

Robert Pettit
Buffalo, SC

Mr. Robert Cleveland Pettit, age 86, husband of Mary Baker Pettit of 149 Robertson Lane, Buffalo, SC died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Wallace Thompson Hospital.

Mr. Pettit was born in Union County, SC August 28, 1924, a son of the late John Pettit and Estelle Johns Pettit. He was a member of Welcome Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Linda Pettit of Union; five sons: Steve Pettit and wife Debra, Rick Pettit and wife Elaine, John Pettit and wife Judy, Brian Pettit and wife Elaine all of Michigan and Mark Pettit of Union; a sister-in-law, Sarah Shelton and husband Charles of Buffalo; two step-daughters: Christine Wiggins of Michigan and Denise Alana Worden of VA; two step-sons: David Worden of Washington and Robert Worden and wife Shida of Michigan; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr.Pettit was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis, Rev. Robert Mills and Rev. David Berry. Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Pettit, II, Robert Pettit, Tony Pettit, John Gary Jenkins, Tommy Lane and Charles Shelton.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Tessie Faye Jolly
Spartanburg, SC

Miss Tessie Fay Jolly, age 80, of Park Place Assisted Living, Spartanburg, SC died Friday, February 25, 2011.

Miss Jolly was born in Union, SC January 8, 1931, a daughter of the late Walter Wilson Jolly and Grace Young Jolly. She was a graduate of Union High School and had attended Winthrop College. Miss Jolly retired from Milliken & Company- Monarch Plant.

Surviving are a brother, Joseph C. Jolly of Union; a nephew, Stan Jolly and wife Rita of Union; a niece, Linda Carlin of Wellington, FL; a sister-in-law, Ethel Jolly of Union and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Miss Jolly was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Wilson Jolly.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Brian Childers. Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

James H. "Jimmy" Harris
Union, S.C.

Mr. James H. "Jimmy" Harris, age 39, husband of Kim Love Harris of 103 Holly Dr., Union, passed away, Thursday, February 23, 2011.

Mr. Harris was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, September 4, 1971, a son of Jerry M. Harris and Sharon Smith Harris of Union. He was a 1989 graduate of Union High School and was currently President of Unlimited Construction of Union, Inc. Mr. Harris was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served and an Elder, a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Presbyterian Men’s Group. He was a member of the Union Co. Home Builders Association and had served as president from 2009 to 2010, a Mason and had served as Past Master and was a member of the Republican Party. Mr. Harris was involved in various organizations with his son, Grant. He was a devoted son, husband, and father and also avid fisherman.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his son; Grant Paul Harris of the home; two sisters: Angela Powell and husband Glenn of Oxford, NC and Karen Franks and husband Matt of Savannah, TN; 6 nieces and 3 nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 26, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Robert Alexander. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Powell, Ron Lamb, John Parks, Joseph "Jank" Groover, Todd Little, and Vic Love. (Mickey Belue)

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the service in the church.

Bobby L. Thompson

Mr. Bobby Lee Thompson, age 65, husband of Sandra Foster Thompson of 1414 Pineland Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.

Mr. Thompson was born in Jonesville, March 21, 1945, a son of the late Eddie and Pearl Horne Thompson. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and a retired self-employed construction worker. Mr. Thompson was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Scott Thompson and wife Allison and Terry Thompson all of Union; a granddaughter reared in the home: Kayla Thompson; three sisters: Louise Grady and Shirley Lancaster both of Union and Dot Robinson of Jonesville;

four brothers: Harold Loyd Thompson, Eddie Thompson, Jr. and Ralph Thompson all of Union and Fred Thompson of Aiken; other grandchildren: Jesse Thompson, Jordan Thompson and wife Brooke, Sarah Thompson, Rebekah Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Selena Thompson, Joseph Thompson, Abigail Thompson and Adaily Wilkins; one great-granddaughter: Emma Thompson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, February 25, 2011 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Allen Gregory. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jesse Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Kevin Vinson, Mike Lancaster, James Lancaster, Lynn Thompson and Ralph Thompson.

Bobby Dean ‘Bo’ Hill
Union S.C.

Mr. Bobby Dean "Bo" Hill, age 72, husband of Dianne Hart Hill of 112 2nd St., Ottaray community of Union, passed away, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Hill was born in Union, April 14, 1938 a son of the late Fred and Marie Lawson Hill. He was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing Plant after 40 years and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Luann Hill and special friend Jiggs O’Shields of Ottaray and Katie Marvin, reared in the home, of Spartanburg; a number of nieces and nephews; a special friend: Woody Robertson of Union and Mr. Hill’s grand-dog, Jade. Mr. Hill was predeceased by two sisters: Juanita "Teeter" Hayes and Mary Jo Brewington and a brother: Ted Lawson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Ottaray Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jerry Lawson, Rev. Josh Freeman and Rev. Robert Mills. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Wayne Southard, Ricky Moore, Keith Moore, Brett Moore, Sean O’Shields and Woody Robertson.

Mr. Roger W. Couch, III, age 65 of Triad Care and Rehab Center in High Point, NC, passed away, Sunday, February 13, 2011.

Mr. Couch was born in Slater, SC, October 28, 1946 a son of the late Helen Cain Couch of Union and Roger Couch, II of Greenville. He worked for many years in Greensboro and Raleigh, NC, as a highly skilled auto mechanic. While living in Greensboro, he attended West Market Street United Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church in Union, SC, conducted by Rev. John Culp.

Mrs. Peggy Burgess Patrick, age 52 wife of James "Bo" Patrick of 159 Neal Shoals Rd. Union, passed away Monday morning at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Patrick was born in Union, February 15, 1959, a daughter of the late Boyd and Ruby Greene Burgess. She was formerly employed with United Merchants and attended Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church. Mrs. Patrick was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Michelle Jett and husband Bruce and Dollie Nelson and fiancee Chris Parris all of Union; two sons: Jonathan Patrick and wife Michelle of McConnells and Lee Patrick of York; four sisters: Margie Sisk and husband James of Gaff ney, Debbie Inman and husband Bobby of Union, Bernice Canupp and husband Barry of Lockhart, and Crystal Burgess of Rock Hill; two brothers: Kenneth Burgess of Whitmire and Jerry Burgess and wife Sheri of Union; seven grandchildren: Christian and Cam Jett, Mikala and Tyelar Lipsey, Jada Lynn Proctor, Jonathan and Andrew Patrick.

Frances Hill Greer

Mrs. Frances Hill Greer, age 87, wife of John W. Greer of 130 Springdale Drive, Union, SC, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Greer was born in Union, SC October 10, 1923, a daughter of the late Obie Franklin Hill and Louise Hicks Hill. She was a graduate of Union High School and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband John of sixty-five years are a son, John H. Greer and wife Joanne H. Greer of Huntsville, AL; a granddaughter, Joanna L. Greer of Athens, GA and a grandson, John H. Greer, Jr of Huntsville, AL.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Dr. Fred S. Miller, Jr and Rev. John W. Culp.

William E. "Bill" Martin
Union, SC

Mr. William "Bill" Martin, age 80, husband of Mitsuru "Mickie" Martin, of 1059 Kelly Road, Union, SC., died February 18, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Martin was born August 31, 1930, a son of the late Fred L. Martin and Ora Sutton Martin. He was educated in Union County Schools. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of seventeen and retired after twenty-two years of service. During this time he served two tours of duty in Korea and Japan, where he met his loving wife of fifty-six years, Mitsuru. Mr. Martin also served one tour in Germany and was stationed in various locations throughout the United States. Upon returning to Union he began serving in the Army Reserve where he served for fifteen years. He served as an agent for Trailways bus lines for over twenty years and was the owner of Martin’s Drive In Restaurant and also was a member of Mon- Aetna Baptist Church.

Mr. Martin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He had an avid passion for fox hunting, like his father.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Mitsuru "Mickie" Martin are two daughters: Mary M. Jenkins and Debbie M. Foster and husband Butch all of Union; a son, William E. "Billy" Martin and wife Becky of Gaffney; a brother, Dan Martin and wife Frances of Union; grandson, William Lee Martin of Spartanburg; two granddaughters: Amy M. Martin and Brittany E. Martin both of Union; step-grandson: Travis Jenkins and wife Ashley of Pacolet; great-grandson, John Hunter Martin of Buffalo; several nieces, nephews and a loving pet, Cookie. Mr. Martin was predeceased by a sister, Doris Burnett and a son-in-law, Randy H. Jenkins.

Graveside services with military honors were held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Christopher Greene. Visitation followed the service at the graveside.

Cami Lynn Blalock Childers

Miss Cami Lynn Blalock Childers, age 16, daughter of William “Charlie” Childers and Tracy Blalock Childers of 207 Eison Road, Union, SC died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Cami was born August 11, 1994 in Charleston, SC and was a loving daughter who enjoyed singing and was her mother’s best friend. Surviving in addition to her parents are three sisters: Corey Childers of the home, Ashley Smith of Spartanburg and Jessica Smith of Chesnee; a brother, Casey Childers of Louisiana and grandmothers: Mary Blalock of Cowpens and Vera Howard of Louisiana.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the home of her cousin, Melinda and Jason Butler, 1068 Riley Rd., Buffalo, SC.

Mrs. Doris Williams Adams, age 82, widow of Robert Smith "R.S." Adams of 205 Bennett St., Union, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Adams was born in Union, March 23, 1928 a daughter of the late J.D. Williams, Sr. and Rhoda Hembree Williams and Mama Sue Bowen. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Clemson University. Mrs. Adams was retired as Quality Control Manager from United Merchants, Union Plant and was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son: Robert Larry Adams and wife Mary Ellen of Myrtle Beach; a grandson: Robert Scott Adams of Miami, FL; a granddaughter: Christy Smith and husband Casey of Danville, VA; two great-grandsons: Jonathan Smith and Cody Smith also of Danville, VA; a sister: Ann Hinkle of Union; a brother: J.D. Williams, Jr. of Maryland; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Adams was predeceased by a sister: Mary Lou Cooner and a brother: Edward Williams.

Funeral services will be held 2:30PM Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Ford, Aubrey Adams, Kenneth Alexander, Mike Ford, Lynn Ford, Robert Adams, Johnny Inman and Harold Eubanks. Members of the Ann Hinkle Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

Ruth L. Wages
Buffalo, S.C.

Mrs. Ruth Lawson Wages, age 91, widow of Thomas W. Wages of 1005 Main St. Buffalo, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wages was born in the Friendship community of Spartanburg Co., November 10, 1919, a daughter of the late Amos B. and Sarah Sherbert Lawson. She was retired from United Merchants Buffalo Plant and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mrs. J.I. Pruitt Sunday School Class, the Young at Heart Club and the WMU.

Mrs. Wages was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by two sisters-in-law: Evelyn B. Lawson and Ruth V. Lawson both of Buffalo and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wages was predeceased by a twin brother, Herbert Richard Lawson; two other brothers, James B. Lawson and Manning Lawson and two sisters: Eula O’Shields and Gelenia Floyd.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, February 14, 2011, at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael Wingertsahn, Rev. Tim Anderson and Rev. Greg Dry. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be: Thomas R. Lawson, Richard L. Lawson, Benjamin Wages, Ed Wages, Wayne McDaniel, Ronnie Wages and Tommy O’Shields.

Members of the Mrs. J.I. Pruitt Sunday School class are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The family will would like to thank Dr. David Keith for his many years of care; also the nursing staff of Tower 3 and the nurses and doctors of the Neuro-ICU unit of Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for their care and concern of Mrs. Wages during her stay.

Carrie B. Jones

Mrs. Carrie Black Jones, age 89, widow of Casey Jones, of 121 Lukesville Rd., Buffalo, passed away at her home, Saturday, February 12, 2011.

Mrs. Jones was born in Jonesville, SC, January 13, 1922, a daughter of the late J.R. Black, Sr. and Emma Franklin Black. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Jones was the last surviving of thirteen children.

Surviving are a daughter: Shelby J. Barber of the home; a son: Danny Jones and wife Wanda of Hendersonville, NC; five grandchildren: Kerry Lankford, Robin Lankford and wife Susan, Rachel Barber, Danny Ray Jones, Jr. and Dennis Wayne Jones; four great-grandchildren: Trevor Lankford, Brooke Lankford, Courtney Lankford and Kelvin Lankford; and two great-great-grandsons. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by a son, Carol Dennis Jones.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ramona Taylor. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Kenneth B. Arrington
West Columbia, S.C.

Mr. Kenneth B. Arrington finally met his Lord and Savoir face to face on Feb. 8th 2011. Born Oct. 8, 1930 in Buffalo, SC, he was the son of the late Olin and Millie Arrington.

Funeral Services will be held at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel in Union, SC on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow at Union Memorial Gardens. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 12th at 2:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC.

Kenneth attended Union County Schools after which he volunteered for the Army in November of 1950. He then served in the Korean War with the 2nd Infantry [Indian Head] Division, in the 23rd Infantry Regimental Combat Team from April 1951 to March 1952. He was a survivor of the "May Massacre", the battle of "Bloody Ridge" and "Heartbreak Ridge". His decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, 2 Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1985 after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 56 years, Rosemary Cooper Arrington. Other survivors include his three daughters: Debbie (Jeff) Repass, Teresa (Dave) Rader, and Rebecca (Dale) Lake, six grandchildren, Tawnya, Marc, Russell, Jennifer, Justin, Jason and seven great grandchildren. His grandchildren are honored to be his pallbearers.

Special thanks to Amedysis Hospice and caregivers Laura and Gwen for the loving care they provided.

Mr. Albert Eugene Bright, age 78, husband of Fannie Maness Bright of 203 Velda Drive, Union, SC died Monday, February 7, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bright was born in Buffalo, SC April 1, 1932, a son of the late James D. Bright, Sr and Lois Cartee Bright. He retired from Milliken & Co in Gainesville, Georgia and was employed with Union County Recycling Center. Mr. Bright was a Veteran of the US Marines having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sherill Peeler Garner and husband John of Jonesville; a sister, Mary Hitt; a brother, J.D. Bright, Jr both of Union; a sister-in-law, Christine Lambert of Union; two brothers-in-law: Charles Manus and wife Frances of Myrtle Beach and James Maness of Union; two grandchildren; Michelle Frost and Chelsey Garner; two great-grandchildren: Madison and Jonathan Frost; several nieces, nephews including his special niece, Gigi Burgess. Mr. Bright was predeceased by two sons, Albert Eugene Bright, Jr. and Michael Eugene Bright and two infant daughters.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Tanglewood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be J.D. Bright, Jeffrey Bright, James Bright, Tommy Hitt, Jim Maness and Chris Burgess.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 PM in the church prior to the service.

John L. McCully

Mr. John Lewis McCully, age 64, husband of Vicki Cobb McCully of 104 Churchill St., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 6, 2011 after a brief illness.

Mr. McCully was born in Union Co. NC, January 17, 1947, a son of the late Barrette Wilson Beachum and Lottie Edwards Beachum. Mr. McCully retired from Duke Energy after 25 years of services and was a member of New Life Baptist Church. A member of Cane Creek Hunt Club, Mr. McCully was an avid hunter and fisherman, a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Tina McCully Davis of York, Michelle Helton and Brandi Boughman and husband Jerry all of Union; one son: Johnny Wilson McCully of York; a sister: Johnsie Hudgins and husband Howard of Statesville, NC; his mother-in-law; Gail Cobb of Union; three brothers-in-law: Raymond E. Cobb, Jr. of Columbia, Steve Cobb and wife Becky, Rev. Scott Cobb and wife Rhonda all of Union; four grandchildren: Alexis McGowan, Madeline Davis, Trent Davis and Ayden Boughman; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. McCully was predeceased by a sister: Judy McCully Miller.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at New Life Baptist Church, Union conducted by Rev. Shep Bevis and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Francis Ramsey, George Summers, Steve Koskela, Tony Rector, Mike Hogan and Dennis Nix.

Mrs. Judith “Judy” Gardin Mitchell, age 64 of 632 Gaffney Hwy, Jonesville, SC went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg.

Mrs Mitchell was born in Newberry, SC, September 8, 1946, a daughter of Annie Lee Burch Gardin of Jonesville and the late James Richard Gardin.

She was formerly employed with Limestone Mill and was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Tangela Brown of Spartanburg; two sons: Paul “P.D.” Mitchell of Jonesville and Donnie “Beaver” Mitchell of Union; three sisters: Charlene Dimsdale, Karen Holt both of Jonesville and Sandra Freeman of Union; two brothers: Charlie Gardin of Union and George Gardin of Jonesville and five grandchildren. Mrs. Mitchell was predeceased by a brother, Kenny Gardin.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Randy Smith.

Mrs. Mae Pridemore Tindall, age 74 of 885 Webber Lake Rd., Union, SC, widow of Phillip Ray Tindall, died Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Tindall was born in Union, SC April 27, 1936, a daughter of the late Grady Pridemore and Flora Hoglen Pridemore. She retired from the Greenleaf Plant and was a member of Union Church of God.

Surviving are a sister, Margaret Sumner; a brother, Franklin Pridemore and wife Brenda all of Union; three special friends, Kendall and Debbie Summer and Ken Taft. Mrs. Tindall was predeceased by two sisters, Agnes Cagle and Altie Floyd and two brothers, Kyle Pridemore and Newton Pridemore.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Union Church of God conducted by Rev. Thomas H. Brown. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Billy Wayne West, age 71 of 465 Haney Cemetery Rd., Jonesville, SC, husband of Sandra Blair West, died Friday, February 4, 2011 at Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. West was born in Jonesville, SC April 17, 1939 the son of William "Bill" West of Jonesville and the late Macie Dorman West.

Mr. West was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol. He was a member of the Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a member of Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters; Cindy May and husband Daniel of Lugoff, SC, Beth West and husband Jim Wolf of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Amy Garrett and husband Mark of Union, two sons; Mitchell West and wife Andrea of Greenville, SC and Michael West and wife Vronica of Columbia, SC , four grandchildren; Matthew and Kelly May of Lugoff, SC, Taylor Garrett of Union, Tyler Sullivan of Colorado Springs, Col. and Madison West of Greenville, an uncle; Hubert Dorman and wife Harriett of Charleston, SC.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 7, 2011 at Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Jonesville conducted by Rev. Christopher Greene and Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

A graveside service for Sarah Rountree Dawkins, 90, widow of Austin E. Dawkins, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Immediately following, there will be a memorial service at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home (Solarium), where the family will receive friends after the service. The Rev. Kevin Dalton, pastor of Buffalo United Methodist Church, will be officiating at both services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union County Health Care Foundation, P. O. Mrs. Dawkins was born September 19, 1920 in Buffalo SC and passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Rosa Riley Rountree. A graduate of Union High School, she was a lifelong member of Buffalo United Methodist Church and was a recipient of the church’s annual Mother of the Year award. While she had a varied career, her favorite work was being a kindergarten assistant at Buffalo Grammar School. Gardening was her hobby.

She is survived by her daughter Patty Cooper Russell (Bob) of Columbia; granddaughters Sloane Cooper Ellis of Camden, Sarah Riley Cooper of Charleston and Tricia Cooper Butler (Brian) of Portland OR; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Riley Ellis; sister, Virginia Marguerite Rountree; brother, James Riley Rountree; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thelma Martin Harvey, age 83 widow of Eddie Harvey of 156 Spencer Rd., Jonesville passed away, Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Harvey was born in Jonesville, June 13, 1927 a daughter of the late James Wilford Martin and Katie Buice Martin Petty. She was 1944 graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from Smith’s Jewelry Store. Mrs. Martin was a member of West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Linda H. Bennett and husband Larry, Norma H. Hawkins and husband Gary all of Jonesville, and Sandra H. Owen and husband Tom of Old Fort, NC; one son: Dan Harvey of Spartanburg; two sisters: Ruby Edwards of Spartanburg and Gayle Purkey of Jonesville; one brother: Boyce Martin of Pacolet; six grandchildren: Richard Bennett, Brian Bennett, Annette Heatherly, Amy Truitt, Kelly Owen and Stephen Owen and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2011 at West Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Brent Dowis and Rev. Stephen Owen. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. John D. Tipton, age 86, husband of Anna Lou Ivey Tipton of 2620 Lockhart Hwy., Union passed away, Monday, January 31, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a period of declining health.

Mr. Tipton was born in Union, August 28, 1924, a son of the late Leonard and Ada Allen Tipton. He was retired from Torrington Co. and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where he was a member of the Tom Alexander Sunday School Class. A veteran of the US Army, Mr. Tipton served in Normandy at the Battle of the Bulge; he was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: James Lynn Tipton of Spartanburg; a brother: Leonard Tipton and wife Mildred of Union; a grandson: John Steven Tipton and girlfriend, Crystal Brannon of Union; great-granddaughters: Haleigh Tipton and Taylor Tipton. Mr. Tipton was predeceased by a son, John Allen Tipton; two sisters: Vergie Stapleton and Nancy Brandt; and a brother: Vernon Tipton.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Mr. Tipton’s nephews will serve as active pallbearers.
