Carlyne Maria Teague

Ms. Carlyne Maria Teague, age 51, 317 Westminister Circle, Union, SC, went home to be with the Lord and to see her Daddy, Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Hospise Home of Laurens County.

Ms. Teague was born in Union, September 30, 1959, a daughter of Shirley Gregory Teague of the home and the late William Curtis Teague. She was a graduate of Union High School and USC Union. She served as an administrative assistant at the USC Union campus. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church ,she attended the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.

Surviving in addition to her mother, Shirley Gregory Teague, are a daughter: Chelsea Boulware; a son: Donald G. Boulware; a sister: Beverly E. Teague, all of Union; a grandson: Nathan E. Hendrix and 3 nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Gerald Gregory, Gene Gregory, Steve Gregory, Kenny Teague, Ricky Ingle, Ronnie Ingle, Danny Gregory and David Eaves. Honorary pallbearers will be Administrative Faculty and Staff of USC Union and Nurses and Staff of Hospice Care of SC Union Unit.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Joseph Maurice Brock
Buffalo, SC

Mr. Joseph Maurice Brock, age 60, husband of Diane Furr Brock, of 135 Hill St. Buffalo, SC passed away at his home on Friday, June 24, 2011.

Mr. Brock was born in Union, August 1, 1950, a son of the late Frank Braxton and Ruby Mae Brock Duncan. He retired from United Merchants Buffalo Plant after 22 yeas of service. Mr. Brock was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter; Kimberly Ann Brock of the home, 3 sisters; Sandy Childers and Nancy Browning of Union and Mary O’Dell of Myrtle Beach, 6 brothers; Bruce Braxton of Buffalo, Tommy Braxton of Greenville, TN, Dean Braxton of Orangeburg, Ray Duncan of Lockhart, John William Duncan and Carl D. Plemons both of Union; 1 grandson; Tristen Scott Brock of Buffalo, a sister-in-law; Linda Sue Furr of the home; very very best friends; Tammy and Gerald Haney of Buffalo and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Brock was pre-deceased by his son; Timothy Scott Brock.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2011 at New Hope Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Wayne Crocker, Jimmy Brock, Gene Dawkins, Kevin Groves, Rick Keisler and Lewis Ford. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie Seay, O’Dell Phillips, Dennis Crisp and Tommy Brewington.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Sara G. Sprouse
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Sara Greene Sprouse, age 79, widow of Henry Earl Sprouse, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Sprouse was born in Union May 24,1932, a daughter of the late Carl B. and Olive Greene and the late Pansy Godfrey Greene. A graduate of Union High School and Clemson University, she formerly taught Graphic Arts at Union High School. Mrs. Sprouse was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and had previously served as church organist for over 30 years and as a Sunday School teacher at Covenant Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Diane Burgess and husband Dennis of Union; two sons: Lee Bogan and wife Teresa of Portland, TN and Robert "Bobby" Garner of Union; a brother: Bill Robinson of Clearwater, FL; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sprouse was predeceased by two sons: Marion "Chunky" Garner and William "Big Bill" Garner, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Lakeside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb and Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Sprouse’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Nurses and staff of Harmony Care Hospice are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:30 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, Parking Lot Fund, 640 Lakeside Dr., Union, SC, 29379.

The family is at the home of her grandson, Michael and Tabatha Burgess, 200 Barron St., Union.

Peggy Liner Shetley
Union, SC

Mrs. Peggy Liner Shetley, age 76, wife of A.J. Shetley, Jr of 210 Shetley Rd., Union, SC went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House after a brief illness.

Mrs. Shetley was born in Buffalo, SC March 20, 1935, a daughter of the late Clay Liner and Dora Malone Liner. She retired from United Merchants and attended Morningside Baptist Church. Mrs. Shetley is the last surviving member of ten children, four sisters and five brothers.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Crystal Robinson and husband Dale and Tammy Kelley and husband Patrick all of Union; six grandchildren: Leslie Thompson and husband Matt of Union, Lindsey Switzer and husband Ryan of Roebuck, Bryan Robinson and wife Audrey of Union, Brett Robinson and wife Tiffany of Easley, Katy Beth Seaburg and husband Wesley of West Springs and Morgan Knox of Union and three great-grandchildren: Hayden Thompson, Maddox and Thomas Robinson.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon.

Visitation will be held at the home, 210 Shetley Rd., Union immediately following the graveside service.

Betty Lockaby Jones

Mrs. Betty Jean Lockaby Jones, age 79, widow of Lee M. Jones, of 527 Lakeview Heights, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Jones was born in Union, SC., March 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Earl Russell and Bernice Nelson Lockaby. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church, The Young at Heart Sunday School Class, WMU and served as a volunteer for the Union County Baptist Association. Mrs. Jones was retired from Oakland Mill in Newberry, SC.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is survived by two daughters: Pamela J. Puckett and husband Roy of Union, and Karen Lane and husband Charles of Spartanburg; two sons: Steve Jones and wife Deborah of Spartanburg and Randall Jones and wife Terry of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law: Wanda Lockaby of Union; five grandchildren: Richard Puckett, Tammy Wade, Paula I. Nabors, Shelby Gosnell and Wesley Jones; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew: Mike Lockaby. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by a son: Paul Russell Jones and a brother: Leon Lockaby.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, June 20, 2011 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shep Bevis and Rev. Ron Culbertson. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Chase Puckett, Jamie Nabors, Howard Cohen, Jerry Cohen, Eddie Wayne Davis and John Horne. The following are asked to sit in a group: Pearl Crocker, The Volunteers of Wallace Thomson Hospital and members of Young at Heart Sunday School Class.

Billy K. Gregory, Sr.
Newberry, SC

Mr. Billy K. Gregory, SR., age 58, husband of Mary Simon Gregory, of 2637 Wilson Rd., Newberry, SC., died Friday, June 17, 2011 at Dorn VA Medical Center.

Mr. Gregory was born in Lockhart, SC., April 29, 1953, a son of the late L.J and Sarah Brannon Gregory. He was a member of Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church and was employed by E.W. Longshore and Son for seventeen years. Mr. Gregory was a veteran of the US Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Scott Gregory, Sr. and Billy Gregory, Jr. both of Newberry; a brother: Gerald Gregory of Lockhart; six grandchildren; and two daughter-in-laws: Christie Gregory and Cyndi Gregory both of Newberry. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by two brothers: Bobby Ray Gregory, SR. and Baby Boy Gregory.

Funeral Services will be held 4:00 PM, Monday, June 20, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Lewis Wilson. Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jamie Schrader, Austin Amick, Robert Harris, Mayolo Sosa, Steve Hart and Bobby Ray Gregory, Jr.

The family will have visitation from 3:00 until 4:00 PM prior the service at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Eulala J. Harrison
Buffalo, SC

Mrs. Eulala J. Harrison, age 86, of Buffalo, SC., widow of Newell E. Harrison passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Harrison was born April 9, 1925, a daughter of the late Stella Reese Johnson and Hammie M. Johnson.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda H. Russell of Union; two sons: Newell E. Harrison, Jr. of Buffalo and Timothy J. Harrison and wife Hedy of Union; two brothers: H.M. Johnson, Jr. and Henry F. Johnson and wife Irene both of Union. Mrs. Harrison is also survived by a very special niece Sherry C. Kendrick and a special loved one, Joan Merrill of Greenwood. Mrs. Harrison was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara H. Brown and husband Hugh and a sister: Launa J. Crisp.

Mrs. Harrison was the affectionate grandmother of nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, June 20, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens in Union, SC. with Rev. Johnny Burgess officiating her service.

Following the service the family will be available to speak with friends.

The family will be at the home, 200 Drugstore St., Buffalo, SC 29321.

Joann Ruest Coyne
Middleton, NH

Mrs. JoAnn Ruest Coyne passed away at Rochester, NH Hospital Monday, June 13, 2011 after a lingering illness.

Mrs. Coyne was born October 7, 1953, a daughter of the late George Joe and Annie Mae Keisler Ruest. Mrs Coyne was a resident of Union for a number of years.

Surviving in addition to her husband, William Skip Coyne, are a daughter: Sarah Ann Coyne of the home and Allen Wheeler. Also surviving are aunts and uncles: Fred M. And Marie Keisler of the Mt. Lebanon community, Bobby and Carol Keisler and William and Carol Keisler all of Union, Paul and Patsy Keisler of the Pea Ridge community and a number of cousins in Union and in New Hampshire. She was predeceased by grandparents, Mrs. Corrie Keisler, Lawrence M. Keisler, Mr. and Mrs. Cleophus and Alice Demeis Ruest.

A celebration of life service will be held at her daughter’s home in Middleton, NH on Saturday evening June 18, 2011.

Mr. John Gary Jenkins, Sr., age 70, of 118 Teal Rd. Union, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 after a brief illness under the care of Harmony Care Hospice.

Mr. Jenkins was born in Union, October 22, 1940. Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary A. "Lucy" Tipton Jenkins of the home are a daughter: Kaye Jenkins of Simpsonville; a son: John Gary "Johnny" Jenkins, Jr.of Greenville; a granddaughter: Jennifer Varner Porter and husband David of Fountain Inn; a sister: Ruby Boulware and husband Eddie of Union; mother and father-in-law: Mildred and Leonard Tipton of Union; a brother-in-law: Stanley Tipton of Sumter and number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 17, 2011 at Beulah Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Darrell Weaver, Rev. Randy McAlister and Rev. David Berry. The family will receive friends at the home after the graveside services.

Active pallbearers will be Tom Ginty, Timmy Vinson, Ed Sealy, Buddy Thomas, Robbie Wells, Gene Pardue, Wayne Willard and Lewis Horne.

Audrey Anne Sherbert

Ms. Audrey Anne Sherbert, age 56, of 200 Cottage Ave., Union, passed away, Wednesday, June 15, 2011.

Ms. Sherbert was born in Union, July 20, 1954, a daughter of William and Maxine Moore Sherbert of Union.

Surviving are one son: Billy Ponder and wife Ginnie of Union; two sisters: Susan Hamby and Kathy Varner and husband Tim all of Union; two grandchildren: Garrett and Melaney Ponder; a niece: Katrina Ray; two nephews: Jamie Varner and Terry Hamby; a special great-niece: Cassandra Ray and a number of other great-nieces and nephews and her pet dog "Charlie".

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 17, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook and Rev. Ronnie Moore.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the services.

Ruby Pauline Davis
Union, SC

Mrs. Ruby Pauline Ivey Davis, age 90, widow of Edward Davis, formerly of the Browns Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Oakmont of Union.

Mrs. Davis was born in Union, SC October 22, 1920, a daughter of the late G. Wallace Ivey and Leila Sinclair Ivey. She was the Valedictorian at Kelly Pinckney High School, Class of 1936 and was formerly employed with Milliken & Co- Monarch Plant. Mrs. Davis was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher for fifty-eight years of the Ruby Davis Sunday School Class; was a member of the WMU; a choir member; a Vacation Bible School worker and had been on several mission trips. Mrs. Davis was also an avid Granny Gram Writer.

Surviving are two daughters: Candace Kay Sparks and husband Bruce of Union and Judy Burnett and husband James of Spartanburg; a son, Don Davis and wife Barbara of Union; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Davis was predeceased by a daughter, Wanda Davis Petty; a brother, Emmitt Ivey and a sister, Cleo Vinson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee, Rev. Taylor Wells and Rev. Jerry Ford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bruce Sparks, Jr., Mark Osborne, Rock Ray, Barry Burnett, Randy Fabrey, Richie Petty and Sammy S. White. The following are asked to sit in a group: Members of the Ruby Davis Sunday School Class, Dr. David Keith, Staff of Oakmont of Union and Staff of Heartland Hospice.

Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Tuesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home. The family will also have visitation 2:00-3:00 PM Wednesday in the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Millwood Hurley, age 76, of 29 Blue Moon Dr., Carlisle, widow of Samuel Hurley, passed away, Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Laurens Co. Health Care.

Mrs. Hurley was born in Anderson, July 3, 1934, a daughter of the late Andrew and Sophie Mae McDonald McCall. She was a native of Lockhart and retired from Spring Mills. Mrs. Hurley was a member of Lydia Mills Church of God in Clinton. She was first married to Earl R. Bradley of Spokane, WA and secondly to the late Clyde Millwood, Sr.

Surviving are two daughters: Susan Morgan of Laurens, and Patsy Millwood Taylor and husband Larry of Carlisle; a son: Clyde Millwood, Jr. and wife Barbara of Lockhart; two step-daughters: Rita Terry and Jane Horne both of Chester; two step-sons: Clay Millwood and Johnny Millwood both of Chester; a sister: Shirley Hawkins of Lockhart; three brothers: Sammy McCall and wife Sandra of Simpsonville, Ernest McCall of Laurens and Billy McCall and wife Flossie of Pageland; a special friend: Pat Simpson of Clinton; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her pet Boston Terrier, Pitty Pat. Mrs. Hurley was predeceased by a son, Ronald Bradley, two sisters: Lona Petty and Louise McCall and two brothers: Jesse McCall and Frank McCall.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Charles E. Taylor.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 3:45 PM Sunday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.

The family is at the home, 29 Blue Moon Dr., Carlisle, SC.

Dale R. Puckett
Sevierville, TN

Mr. Dale R. Puckett, age 63, of Servierville, TN, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 9, 2011.

Mr. Puckett was the son of Donald A. and Mae Puckett of Union and the late Dorothy Owens Parton. He was a musician and longtime employee with Dollywood.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Mitzi, are four daughters: Paula, Karen, Angie and Shelley, three sisters: Donna Cudd of Union, Debra Hess and Rena Connoley both of Tennessee; two brothers: Dwight E. Puckett of Tennessee and Donnie Puckett of Spartanburg:;12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in Sevierville, TN.

Mrs. Angela Darlene Smith Millwood, age 48, of 208 Turner Ave., Union, passed away, June 7, 2011.

Mrs. Millwood was born in Union, September 16, 1962, a daughter of the late Sim and Rosa Lee Bumgarner Smith. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a member of New Life Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband; Roger Millwood of the home; a daughter: Rosa Lee Early and husband James of Jonesville; two sons: Ricky S. Fuller of Jonesville and Shannon Fuller of Syracuse, NY; three sisters: Sue Witherspoon of MI, Patsy Gail Akcins of St. Louis, MO and Betty Brown of Union; five brothers: Larry Dean Smith, Bobby Smith, Ricky Smith, and Joseph H. Smith all of Union and Michael Smith of MI; an uncle: Glenn E. Smith of Jonesville; three grandchildren: Cierra Early, Dakota Early and Chyenne Early.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Rick Dupree.

Annie Lewis Inman

Mrs. Annie Lewis Inman, age 84 of Oakmont Residential, Union, SC, widow of Floyd Inman died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Inman was born in Union County, SC October 25, 1926, a daughter of the late Lewis Gregory and Mae Cudd Gregory. She was a 1945 graduate of Gaffney High School and retired from Monarch Mill. Mrs.

Inman was a member of Morningside Baptist Church for forty-eight years where she was a member of the Ladies Adult II Sunday School Class.

Surviving are two daughters: Joyce Rector and Lynn Babb and husband Carl; two sons: Lewis Inman and Bobby Inman and wife Debbie; a son-in-law, Gene Rector all of Union; a sister, Gladys Wood; a brother, Robert Gregory both of Gaffney; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Inman was predeceased by a son, Daniel Inman.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2011at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Elnora Clark Garner, age 80, wife of Thomas Harold Garner of 7390 S. Pine Street, Pacolet, SC went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Garner was born in Union County, SC January 22, 1931, a daughter of the late William Hicks Clark and Ethel Pauline Griffen Clark. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Garner was a member of Tate Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband of sixty-three years are two sons: James Richard Garner and wife Joyce of Pacolet and Thomas Harold Garner, Jr and wife Dianne of Prosperity, SC; a sister, Margaret Ann Jimmerson and husband Lynn of Inman; three brothers: Billy Joe Clark of Spartanburg, Lewis Clark and wife Brenda of Union and Boyd Clark of Jonesville; two grandchildren: Taylor Garner of Greenwood and Lee Garner of Pacolet; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Garner was predeceased by a sister, Betty Bogan and two brothers Hames Clark and Wade Clark.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Pacolet Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dennis Tessnier.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Robert David Allison

Mr. Robert David Allison, age 56, husband of Elizabeth “Libby” Garner Allison of 212 City View Circle, Union, SC died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Allison was born in Union County, SC August 8, 1954, a son of the late Dana Allison and Margaret Parker Allison. He was employed with Web Forging; was a Mason and a Veteran of the US Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kelly Allison; a sister, Teresa Garner and husband Jack; two grandchildren: Isaac Allison ad Nick Pruitt all of Union and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Allison was predeceased by a sister, Debra Gregory and a brother Michael “Monro” Allison.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Buddy Huss, Ronnie Belue, Jamison England, Bronson England, Cody Allison, Mark Austin, Butch Benton and Tim Brannon.

Visitation will be held 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday in the chapel prior to the service.

Rowland Farr Thomas, Jr.
Breaux Bridge, LA

Mr. Rowland Farr Thomas, Jr., husband of Ramona "Ronnie" Davis Thomas of Breaux Bridge, LA, passed away in August 27, 2010.

Mr. Thomas was born in Chester Co., December 17, 1925 a son of the late Rowland Farr Thomas, Sr. from Union and Alma Wade Thomas from Chester. He was a 1949 graduate of Wofford College and received his MA degree from East Carolina College in North Carolina. Mr. Thomas retired as corporate training director for Georgia Pacific and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War having served in the US Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Susannah T. Carter of Tignall, GA; a son: Rowland Glenn Thomas, Phd. of Breaux Bridge, LA; 3 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A graveside memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Fishdam Cemetery conducted by Rev. Richard Spaugh.

Deanie G. Blackwood
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Deanie Gregory Blackwood, age 83, widow of James W. Blackwood, Sr., of 300 Birchwood Dr. Union, passed away, Sunday, June 5, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Blackwood was born in Union, August 14, 1927, a daughter of the late Starks and Annie Lee Gregory. She was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served as a kindergarten teacher and the day care director for many years. She also served as chairman of the hostess committee and enjoyed preparing meals for shut-ins of the church. Mrs. Blackwood was actively involved in the Tomi Vaughn Sunday School Class, the Widows Group and the Keen-Agers Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are three daughters: Brenda B. Kingsmore and husband Dan of Murrells Inlet, Beverly B. Gregory and husband Curtis of Buffalo and Jeanie B. Malone and husband Chuck of Union; one son, James W. Blackwood, Jr. and wife Linda of Spartanburg; a brother, Gene A. Gregory of Union; seven grandchildren: Kip Daniel Kingsmore, Leigh B. Thornley and husband Andrew, Travis James Blackwood and wife Christy, John Curtis Gregory and his fiancé, Brittnee Lawson; Kathryn G. Massengill and husband Caleb; Jordan Metz Gregory and Anna Elizabeth Malone; five great-grandchildren: Sarah Morgan Thornley, Abigail Grace Thornley, Rachel Elizabeth Thornley, Zachary Martin Blackwood and Caleb James Blackwood; special friends: Joan Wilburn, Mary Alice Stevenson, Helen Grady and Deannie Brown. Mrs. Blackwood was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman and Rev. James W. Blackwood, Jr. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Blackwood’s grandsons and James Scott Sherbert. Special friends, members of the Tomi Vaughn Sunday School class and past and present members of the hostess committee are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. William Ernest Conner, age 55, husband of Cintra Widener Conner of 114 Prather St., Whitmire, passed away at his home, Sunday, June 5, 2011.

Mr. Conner was born in Charleston, SC, December 26, 1955, a son of the late Joe and Evelyn Anderson Conner. He was a retired welder and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Rebecca Conner and fiancee Daniel Bodie of Whitmire; two sons: Harley Conner and wife Chrystal of Whitmire and William Conner of Buffalo; three brothers: Joe Conner of Whitmire, Gary Conner of Cross Hill and Roger Conner of Nevada; his mother-in-law: Dianne Summer of Buffalo; brothers and sisters-in-law: Charles and Charlene Tankersley of Pauline and David and Teresa Widener of Jonesville; 5 grandchildren: Brian, Nicholas, Abigail and Alexie Conner, Dakota Bodie and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Conner was predeceased by a daughter: Casey Conner and a brother: Mark Conner.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Whitmire Cemetery conducted by Rev. Tony Dickert.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Tankersley, Christopher Peay, David Overton and Mark Felker.

Charles O. Summer
Buffalo, S.C.

Mr. Charles O. Summer, age 85, husband of Norma Lee McLaughlin Summer of 2383 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Summer was born in Buffalo, February 10, 1926, a son of the late Ollie Orestus Summer and Bertha Brock Summer. He was a master bluegrass musician who in 2005 was presented at the S.C. State House, the Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award for Old Time Fiddle Player. Mr. Summer was also a member and past Master of the Duncan Masonic Lodge #256 AFM of Buffalo. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during WWII and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years are a daughter: Dianne S. Anthony; a son: Dale Summer both of Buffalo; four sisters: Brooks (John) Varner, Margie Summer, and Gearline Summer all of Buffalo and Beth (Robert) Strait of Jonesville; a brother: Frank Summer of Buffalo; grandchildren: Dee and Beth Anthony, Christy and Chris Casey and Billy and Lona Anthony; 8 special great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law: Dianne Summer; special cousins: Burrell and Carroll Johnson; a niece: Shannon Smith and a nephew: Daniel Strait. Mr. Summer was predeceased by a son: Steve Summer, a sister: Roberta "Sis" Summer and a brother: Forest Earl Summer.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael Wingertsahn. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dee Anthony, Robert Strait, Billy Anthony, Chris Casey, Jeff Casey, and Eli Dantzler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Casey, D.J. Anthony, Zachery Young and Corey Johnson.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
