Mrs. Joyce Anthony Turner, age 63, wife of George W. Turner of 313 C St., Jonesville, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Turner was born in Bryson City, N.C., September 21, 1947, a daughter of the late Roy Thomas Anthony and Ruth Hyde Anthony. She was previously employed with J.P. Stevens and was a member of the Jonesville Church of God.

Surviving in addition to her husband are five daughters: Ann Armstrong and husband, Darrell of Jonesville, Tammy Tate and friend, Charlie Mason of Gaffney, Sheril Lynch and husband, Alan of Jonesville, Teressa Rabb and husband, Bill of Buffalo, Deborah Dover and husband, Kenneth; one son: Chris Turner and friend, Ann Kerr of Jonesville; a brother: Carlie Anthony and wife, Becky of Union; a half-sister: Geraldine Greene of NC; a special niece: Mary Jane Anthony of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Jonesville Church of God conducted by Rev. Roger Byrd. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be John Mark Turner, Ken Dover, Cody Lynch, Christopher Lynch, Corey Dyer and Gerald Turner.

Visitation will be held 7:00 until 9:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Timothy Daniel McFalls
Union, S.C.

Timothy Daniel McFalls, age 20, of 249 Fairview Church Circle, Union, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.

Mr. McFalls was born in Gaffney, SC, October 18, 1990, the son of Timothy William McFalls and Jennifer McIntyre McFalls. He attended Union High School and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are 2 sisters; Karen McFalls Lipsey and husband John, Jr. of Union and Madison Nicole McFalls of the home, maternal grandfather; Bobby Dean McIntyre, Sr. of Gaffney, paternal grandmothers; Patricia Jane Messer of Spartanburg and Dianne May of Indiana. Mr. McFalls was predeceased by his paternal grandfather; Ervin William McFalls and his maternal grandmother; Cheryle McIntyre.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at New Hope Baptist Church in Buffalo, SC, conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess and Rev. Robert Scott. Burial will follow in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be: Justin LeMaster, Matthew Moss, Cody Dickard, Chris Paris, Ricky McFalls, Mickey McFalls and Alan Hudson.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, May 30, 2011 from 7:00 until 9:00 at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mable V. Gist

Mrs. Mable Vinson Gist, age 76, widow of Joseph Carl Gist of 104 McPherson St, Union, passed away, Friday, May 27, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Gist was born in Union, May 7, 1935 a daughter of the late Adam B. and Racine Allred Vinson. She was homemaker and had previously worked at Oakmont Residential.

Mrs. Gist was a member of West Spring Baptist Church and attended Lakeside Baptist Church and was a graduate of Union High School class of 1953.

Surviving are two daughters: Carla Elliott and husband Neal of Buffalo and Patti McNeace and husband Tim of Union; a son: Richard Gist and wife Pam of Brandon FL.; two sisters: Jewel V. Lee and husband Malcolm of Union and Joanne V. Smith and husband Earl of Union; two grandchildren: Leslie Cagle and husband Carroll, J.R. Gist and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers: Juneous, Paul, Everette, James, and Gene Vinson and one sister: Katherine Langlois.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb and Rev. Dr. Brent Dowis. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Springs Baptist Church or to Lakeside Baptist Church or to Bogansville United Methodist Church or to a charity of one’s choice.

Elizabeth Arthur Hughey
Union, SC

Mrs. Elizabeth Arthur Hughey, age 90 of Union, widow of Ezell B. Hughey, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Laurens County Health Care Center.

Mrs. Hughey was born in Union, SC December 16, 1920, a daughter of the late Harry V. Arthur and Clarice Sanders Arthur. She worked for many years at McCellan’s Five & Dime and retired from Winn Dixie. Mrs. Hughey was a lifetime member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where she was a member of Mary Lybrand Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross for many years and also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are a sister, Patricia Arthur Bradley and husband David of Gainesville, GA; a sister-in-law, Margaret Hughey of Union; a special friend, Phyllis Gentry of Union; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives. Mrs. Hughey was predeceased by two brothers, Harry V. Arthur, Jr and James A. Arthur.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2011 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 3:00-5:00 PM Friday in the chapel prior to the service.

Betty Gibson Foster

Mrs. Betty Gibson Foster, age 79 of 111 S. Sixth Street, Lockhart, widow of Nick Foster, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

Mrs. Foster was born in Union County, SC, June 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Robert Gibson and Lizzie Miller Gibson. She retired from Spring Mills in Chester; had worked at Jordan’s Hot Spot and Broad River Mart in Lockhart. Mrs. Foster was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Patsy Craig and husband Bill McSwain of Lockhart and Lisa Baine and husband Sam of Sharon; seven grandchildren:Brian Craig and girlfriend Angel Fletcher, Sam Baine, Jr and wife Krystal, Mindy Baine Alexander and husband Jason, Davie Foster and wife Donna, Tracy Smith and husband Kenny, Jody Massey and Dana Massey and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Foster was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa Foster and a son, David Foster.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Bishop and Rev. Sam Baine, Jr. Burial will in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church.

Active pallbearers will be David Foster, Jody Massey, Steve Cabaniss, Petie Edwards, Jason Alexander, Chance Williams, Mickey Baine, Morgan Foster and Sam Baine, III.

Visitation was held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church.

Miss Delinne Ola Edson, age 62 of Columbia passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 at her home.

Miss Edson was born in Ft. Lee, Va, June 4, 1948, a daughter of the late Col. Frank T. Edson and Frances Fowler Edson. She was a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church where she participated in the adult choir for many years.

Surviving are a brother: Frank F. Edson of Columbia; and four nieces: Sarah Seamon-Huynh of Lexington, Elizabeth Griffin of West Columbia, Suzanna Howard of Lexington, and Alice Williams of Stewart, FL; as well as by 7 great-nieces.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2011 at New Hope United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Jim Ivey and Rev. Raymond Moore. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Eulalia Lawson Smith
Formerly of Buffalo

Mrs. Eulalia Lawson Smith, age 96, widow of Ernest E. Smith, formerly of Mt. Lebanon Rd., Buffalo, SC died Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union County, SC June 28, 1914, a daughter of the late Wallace Lawson and Martha Bogan Lawson. She retired from United Merchants- Buffalo Plant and was a member of Putman Baptist Church where she was a member of the Guiding Light Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a son, Everette Smith and wife Joan of Buffalo; a grandson, Rickey Smith and wife Kay of Columbia; a granddaughter, Betsy Smoak and husband Jeremiah of Columbia; two great-grandsons: Alan Smith and Angus Smoak both of Columbia and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Kinney and husband Bryce of Buffalo. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by a son, William H. Smith, a sister, Fannie Hix Moore, two brothers: Leondas Lawson and Bogan Lawson.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Freeman, Rev. Joshua Freeman and Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Putman Baptist Church.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Freeman, Joe Moore, John Ward, Johnny Lawson, Dennis Sherbert and Charlie Childers. The following are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. David Keith, Ray Freeman, Glenn Sherbert, Ralph Childers, Jerry Burgess and Terry Burgess. Members of the Guiding Light Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

David Lynn Maness
Pacolet, S.C.

Mr. David Lynn Maness, age 50, husband of Carroll Chafin Maness of 807 Glenn Springs Rd., Pacolet, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Mr. Maness was born in Buffalo, November 22, 1960 a son of Kathleen Justice Maness of Buffalo and the late Mason Maness. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended the University of South Carolina and Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Maness loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and Carolina Gamecock fan. He was formerly employed with Torrington Co. of Union.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Karla D. Maness of Greenville and Denise Estep and husband Matt of Springfield, OH; one son: Justin A. Maness and girlfriend, Stacie of Greenville; a sister: Kathy M. Roberts and husband Michael of Utah; three brothers: Carl Mason Maness of Greenville, Allan Steve Maness and wife Janice, and Aaron Maness all of Buffalo; two grandsons: Kade and Jacob; seven nieces and nephews and a number of aunts and uncles.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be immediately following the services.

Infant Daughter

Aubrieana Lashay Wilson, infant daughter of Joshua Thomas Wilson and Redina Rose Cook Wilson of 102 Wilbur Street, Union, SC went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 19, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Aubrieana is survived in addition to her parents by two brothers, Caleb A. Wilson and Elisha D. Wilson both of the home; her grandparents, Rev. Dr. Ricky Cook and wife Sheila of Union and Thomas Wilson and wife Vicky of Clinton.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by her grandfather, Rev. Dr. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Benny Brown will serve as active pallbearer.

Visitation will be held 2:30-4:00 PM Sunday in the chapel prior to the service.

Mary Frances Moungrides Robbins

Mrs. Mary Frances Moungrides Robbins of Union died Saturday, May 21, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Peter J. Moungrides and Frances E. Burrell Moungrides. Mrs. Robbins was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a faithful, loving member of First Presbyterian Church, Union, S.C.

Mrs. Robbins is survived by her husband, of fifty-two years, Ray Robbins; sons, Charles R. Robbins, Jr., wife Melissa of Rock Hill, S.C., John N. Robbins, wife Lisa of Union, S.C.; grandchildren: Caroline and William Robbins of Rock Hill, S.C., Jacob and Alexa Robbins of Union, S.C.; sisters, Sarah Davis and husband Jack of Greenville, S.C., Katina Moungrides of Greenville, S.C, Georgia Moungrides of Dunedin, FL. and brother John Moungrides of Dunedin, FL.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, Union, S.C. at 4:00 PM. Friends will be received from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the church parlor. A private graveside service will be held immediately following the funeral service.

Mr. Toy Edwin Grady, age 67 of Cross Keys Hwy, Union, SC died Thursday, May 19, 2011 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Grady was born in Union, SC, October 7, 1943, a son of the late Toy Grady and Estelle Stevens Grady. He retired from Timken in Clinton, SC.

Mr. Grady was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church and attended Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Woodruff where he served on the Board of Trustees and Custodian.

Surviving are two daughters: Nicole Harmon and husband Dusty of Boiling Springs, SC and Melisa Buford and husband Bucky of Hobbs, New Mexico; three sisters: Reba Grady Bishop of Asheboro, NC, Debbie Grady Cloyd of Danville, KY and Nell Grady Hart of Union; a brother, Hugh Grady of Union; a granddaughter, Brittany Bright White of Hobbs, New Mexico; close companion, Joan Prince of Union, her children and grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell and Rev Dr. Louis Jamison. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dana Grady, David Grady, Mark Fore, Steve Fore David Prince and Terry Rhodes.

Vivian Hughes Spears Whitlock

A memorial service for Mrs. Vivian Hughes Spears Whitlock will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the Nazareth Presbyterian Church in Moore, SC.

Mrs. Vivian Hughes Spears Whitlock, age 85, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Ashlan Village in Lyman, SC after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Whitlock was born in Santuc, SC, September 1, 1925 a daughter of the late C.K. Hughes and Elizabeth McDaniel Hughes. She was a lifelong resident of this area except for a residency in Orange Park, FL from 1971 to 1974. Her love in life was family, friends, and community. Her most rewarding occupation was teaching; inspiring and being inspired by the promise of youth. Mrs. Whitlock had three children with the late Ernest Spears and was subsequently married to the late Dudley Whitlock who also had three children.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charitable organization of one’s choice.

Janie Louise Ashe Sims
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Janie Louise Ashe Sims, age 89, widow of Marion LeGrande Sims, passed away, Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Oakmont Nursing Home after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Sims was born in Chester, December 22, 1921, a daughter of the late James Lee Ashe and Lena Bell Brown Ashe. After high school graduation, Mrs. Sims received her nursing degree at Wallace Thomson Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Harold P. Hope, Sr. She was one of the first nurses to work at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and she retired after 30 years service.

Mrs. Sims was a lifelong member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Woodmen of the World and a former member of the State and National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses.

Survivors include a half-sister: Glennie A. Puckett of Lugoff, a step-sister: Opal M. Sanders of Union and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sims was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Jerry McKee and Rev. Trevor Downey. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Sims’ nephews will serve as active pallbearers.

Members of the Presbyterian Women of McCutchen church are asked to sit in a group.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church.

Memorials may be made to McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1438 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC or to a charity of one’s choice.

Charles Boulware
Laurens, SC

Mr. Charles Boulware, age 70 of 1372 Ekom Beech Rd., Laurens, SC, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Boulware was born in Whitmire, SC September 19, 1940, a son of the late Oral T. Boulware and Emma Bennett Boulware. He was a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Whitmire Unit.

Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Beck with whom he made his home; a sister, Brenda White of Newberry; three brothers: Donald Boulware of Whitmire, James Boulware of Newberry and Bobby Boulware of Laurens;and three grandsons: Matthew Knight, Stephen Beck, Jr and Austin Beck. Mr. Boulware was predeceased by four sisters: Mary Corder, Sarah Malone, Margaret Prince and Nanny Blanchart.

Memorial graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Whitmire Cemetery.

Phyllis Lynn Moore Potts
Jonesville, SC

Ms. Phyllis Lynn Moore Potts, age 63, of 110 Park Drive, Jonesville, SC went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Potts was born in Union, SC February 27, 1948, a daughter of Leonard Moore of Jonesville and Polly Motte Moore of Jonesville. She was formerly employed with Hamricks in Jonesville and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are two daughters: Leah Kent and husband Mici Fluegge of Campobello and Georgia Goudelock and husband Mark of West Columbia; a sister, Vicki Neal and husband Larry; a brother, Danny Moore all of Jonesville; three grandchildren: Cash Fluegge, Kendall and Presley Goudelock; her dog, Jack, her five pound hound, and the rest of the critters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 20, 2011 at Jonesville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown and Rev. James Goudelock.

Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Goudelock, Mici Fluegge, Scott Neal, Danny Moore, Paul Packar and Robbie Faucett.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Jack Greer Garner
Union, SC

Mr. Jack Greer Garner, age 77, husband of Louise Kelly Garner of 211 City View Circle, Union, SC, died Monday, May 16, 2011 at St. Frances Regency Hospital Care.

Mr. Garner was born in Union County, SC July 3, 1933, a son of the late John R. Garner and Gladys Greer Garner. He was a graduate of Union High School and was owner operator of Jack’s Tire Service. Mr. Garner was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in Seabees, Construction Battalion II Class. He was a member of Unity United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-six years are a daughter, Elizabeth Allison and husband David of Union; a son, Jack Turner Garner and wife Teresa of the home and an aunt, Viola O’Dell of Union.

Mr Garner was predeceased by two brothers, Bruce Garner and Gene Garner.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Unity United Methodist conducted by Rev. John Cribb and Rev. Ralph Lawson.

Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Jamison England, Bronson England, Dewey Kelly, Jim O’Dell, Mack Garner, Keith Kirby, Mark Austin and Kenny Scott.

Visitation will be held 1:30-2:45 PM Thursday in the church prior to the service.

Hilda Long Austin
Union, SC

Ms. Hilda Long Austin, age 64, of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after an extended illness. Ms. Austin was formerly of 300 Shadow Drive, Union.

Ms. Austin was born in Jonesville, SC September 10, 1946, a daughter of William Long and Frances Koon Long of Jonesville. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was a member of New Hope Untied Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are a daughter, Amy Jarrett and husband Bryan of Jonesville; a son, Steven Austin and wife Stacy of Union; a sister, Ann Murphy and husband R.D. of Cross Keys; a brother, James Long and wife Donna of Jonesville; three grandchildren: Gage Austin, Kaden Austin and Rylee Austin all of Union. Ms. Austin was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Long and Buddy Long.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 20, 2011 at New Hope United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. James Ivey and Rev.Wayne Cook.

Visitation will be held in the church immediately following the service.

Lockhart, SC

Mrs. Laura A. Howell Roberts, age 71, wife of Emry Roberts, of 203 South First Street, Lockhart, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Roberts was born in Lockhart March 6, 1940, a daughter of the late Raymond Howell and Sadie Dabbs Howell. She retired from Springs Mills and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lockhart. Mrs. Roberts formerly served her church as a choir member and was a former piano player for the Path Lighters Gospel Group.

Mr. Raymond Curtis “Curt” Harris, age 81, husband of Suzanne Walker Harris of 103 Harris Circle, Union, SC died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Harris was born in Union, SC May 29, 1929, a son of the late James Wallace Harris and Nannie Gault Harris. He retired from the South Carolina Forestry Commission. Mr. Harris also installed and serviced well pumps. He was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Joanne Harris Smith; two sons: Tony Harris and wife Cindy and Terry Harris all of Union; four grandchildren: Jamison Moss, Kyle Harris, Susan Gilstrap and Brian Harris; four great-grandchildren: Madison Moss, Jay Moss, Madeline Gilstrap and Gabriel Gilstrap; two sisters: Dot Morris and Ada Adams; a brother, Preach Harris all of Union. Mr. Harris was predeceased by a daughter, Glennis H. Moss; a granddaughter, Tara Suzanne Smith; three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 15, 2011 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs Josephine Keasler Smith, age 76 of 223 Old Pump Station Rd., Union, SC died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Smith was the widow of Harold Eugene Smith, Sr.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union, SC April 21, 1935, a daughter of the late Eugene Keasler and Janie Trollenger Keasler. She retired from Oakmont Nursing Home and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Joanne Smith of Union; three sons: Donald Ray Smith of Blacksburg, William Charles Smith and Dennis Wayne Smith both of Union; a sister, Katheleen Mosley of Durham, NC; a brother, Bobby Keasler of Ft. Mill, SC; six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by a son, Harold Eugene Smith, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Friday, May 13, 2011 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Allen Gregory and Rev. Wayne Cook. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Heatherly was born in Pelham, SC December 29, 1935, a daughter of the late T.J. Duncan and Willie Mae Harris Duncan. She retired from Conso Products and was a member of West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Debbie H.Lyons and husband Hugo of Elloree; a son, Larry W. Heatherly, Sr and wife Penny of Buffalo; two brothers: Joe Duncan of Buffalo and John Duncan of Union; six grandchildren: Misty McCowan and husband Scott, Cristy Behler and husband Mike, April Hicks and husband Chris, Wayne Heatherly, Sharron Lyons and Chad Lyons and wife Brittany; six great-grandchildren and a special caregiver, Susan Justice. Mrs. Heatherly was predeceased by a sister, Nell West and two brothers, Theron Duncan and Otis Duncan.

Mr. Holmes was born in Columbia, SC June 13, 1944, a son of the late Thomas H. Holmes, Sr and Vernelle Hill Baker. He was a retired electrician having been self-employed and having previously worked at University of Iowa . Mr. Holmes was a Veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW of Laurens and the Moose Lodge of Joanna. Mr. Holmes was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are ten daughters: Loretta Willard of Whitmire, Sara Martin Holmes, Elizabeth Martin Holmes, Eleanor Martin Holmes all of Iowa, Erica McCollom of TN, Jessica Parasol, Tabitha Urban both of Leesburg, FL, Sebrina Rodriguez of Newberry, Salina Yussum of Leesburg, FL and Audrey Urban of NC; two sons: Sebastian Reyes of Miami, FL and Timothy Hart of Whitmire; a brother, Billy Holmes of Spartanburg; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nancy Lybrand Caldwell, age 63, wife of Larry Paul Caldwell of 786 New Hope Church Rd., Jonesville, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 7, 2011 after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Caldwell was born in Union, July 13, 1947, a daughter of the late Sidney Ray Lybrand, Sr. and Valerie O’Dell Lybrand. She was a 1966 graduate of Union High School and was retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant. Mrs. Caldwell had previously work with Milliken Co. and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who also loved her church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Susan Caldwell Ivey of Gaffney, and Mary Emma Caldwell Bevis and husband Dennis of Union; three sisters: Sharon Poole and husband John of Ohio, Kathy Stepp and husband Jim of Union and Martha Kimmer and husband Wayne of Spartanburg; six grandsons: Justin Boyd Caldwell, Brenton James Shetley, Jeremy Reeves Ivey, Nicholas Paul Shetley, Jordan Alan Ivey and Jonnah Patrick Ivey; one great-granddaughter: Grace Evelyn Caldwell. Mrs. Caldwell was predeceased by a sister: Phyllis Elaine Caldwell and a brother: Sidney Ray Lybrand, Jr.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Kim Lanier and husband Greg of Chesterfield, VA and Sherry Warlick and husband Jeff of Hiram, GA; three sisters: Faye Henderson of Buffalo, Nancy Solesbee of Thompson, GA and Judy Petty of Buffalo; one brother: Rickey Haney of Buffalo; four grandsons: Michael and Andrew Lanier and Zachary and Nicholas Warlick. Mr. Haney was predeceased by a sister: Carolyn Haney and two bothers: Danny Haney and Eugene Haney.

Mrs. Anne Ellerbe Rabb Knopf, age 52, wife of Julian Richard "Rick" Knopf of 104 Beechtree Place, Union, went home to be with her Lord, Sunday May 1, 2011.

Mrs. Knopf was born in Winnsboro, April 13, 1959, a daughter of the late Rogers L. Rabb, Sr. and Mary Florence "Flossie" McManus Rabb. She was employed with the Union County School System as an art teacher at the Jonesville Elementary/Middle School. Mrs. Knopf was a 1977 graduate of Union High School, attended the University of South Carolina and received her BFA degree in Studio Art from Converse College in 2000. Mrs Knopf was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two brothers: Rogers L. "Bo" Rabb, Jr. and wife Melanie of Union and William R. Rabb, II and wife Teressa of Buffalo. Mrs. Knopf was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Suzanne "Betsy" Rabb.

Mr. Whitlock was born in Union County, SC September 27, 1940, a son of the late J.B. Whitlock and Doris Louise Clay. He was owner operator of Whitmire Truck Stop and was a member of God’s Healing Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters: Sylvia Lisa Whitlock of Whitmire, Gail Bowie of Jonesville, Glenda J. Martin of Pellion, Lynn Ellenburg of Central and Michelle Whitlock of Jonesville; four sons: Tony Jones of Newberry, Mitchell Trammell of Cross Keys, Keith Whitlock and Gordon Whitlock, Jr. both of Michigan; a sister, Judy Taylor of Clinton; a brother, Jerry Whitlock of Whitmire; a step-father, Charles E. Clay of Whitmire; twenty grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. Mr. Whitlock was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Lyons; a grandson, Charles Black.; a sister, Maxine Whitlock and three brothers: Billy Joe Whitlock, James Whitlock and Ronnie Whitlock.

Mrs. Frances Elberbe "DD" Littlejohn, widow of Albert Cooper Littlejohn, Sr., passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 in Union, SC.

Mrs. Littlejohn was born October 4, 1921 in Jonesville, SC to the late Frank M. and Etha Hames Ellerbe. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Winthrop College. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Union, SC where she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Littlejohn was a member and past president of the Delhom Service League, Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC; the Junior Book Club, the Study Club, the Book and Garden Club, the Friends of the Library, and the DAR all of Union.

Mrs. Littlejohn is survived by her son, Albert Cooper Littlejohn, Jr. and wife, Ginger; a granddaughter, Angela Frances Littlejohn, Esquire and a grandson, Cooper Austin Littlejohn, all of Seneca, SC; a sister, Mrs. Henry Irven "Margaret" Madden of Jonesville, SC; and 3 nieces and 8 nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Isla Ellerbe Magnifico of Union, SC and brothers; Thaddeus Hames Ellerbe of Matthews, NC and Dr. Boyd L. Hames of Union, SC.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday May 7, 2011, at Grace United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.

A committal service will be 4:30 PM Saturday afternoon at Sardis Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Charlotte, NC.

Mr Harold Rufus Owens, age 76, husband of Gladys Bailey Owens of 2344 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy. passed away at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House on Saturday, April 30, 2011.

Mr. Owens was born in Buffalo, May 21, 1934, a son of the late Boyce B. Owens and Addie Pruitt Owens. Mr Owens retired from Cone Mills after 36 years, was a member of the Duncan Masonic Lodge and was a member of Lower Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son; Jeffrey Brooks Owens and wife Tracy of Summerville, SC, a sister; Ruby Johnson, and three grandchildren; Brennen Owens of Clemson, Zachery Owens of Columbia, and Spencer Owens of Summerville, SC. Mr. Owens was predeceased by two sisters; Bernice O’Shields and Ruth Betenbaugh and two brothers; Curtis Dupree (Scooge) Owens and Edward Eugene Owens.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, May 2, 2011 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Jim Cunningham. Masonic Rites will follow.

Masons will serve as active pallbearers. Former employees of Cone Mill will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the Family Life Center.
