Len R. Caldwell, Jr.

Mr. Len R. Caldwell, Jr., age 87, widower of Helen Margaret “Polly” Caldwell, of 309 Fire Lane, Buffalo, SC passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at the home of his son, Scott Caldwell.

Mr. Caldwell was born in Buffalo, August 13, 1924, a son of the late Len, Sr. and Lillie Mae Eubanks Caldwell. He was retired from Cone Mills, John Wolfe Division, and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons: Perry Caldwell and wife Carole of Union, Scott Caldwell of Buffalo; two brothers: Frank Caldwell of Buffalo, Dewey Caldwell of Pinehurst, NC; three grandchildren: Eric Caldwell, David Caldwell, Lisa Selph, and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dennis Spencer.

Visitation will be held immediately following the service.

The family wishes to express special thanks to his brother Frank and his nephew Jimmy Caldwell for the loving care they helped give him.

The family is at the home of his son, Scott Caldwell, 1427 Main Street, Buffalo, SC 29321.

James Thomas Roberts
Cowpens, S.C.

Mr. James Thomas “Tommy Red” Roberts, age 60, husband of Nita Wilson Roberts of 180 Net Dr. Cowpens, passed away Monday, March 26, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Roberts was born in Union, January 20, 1952 a son of the late James Henry “Wall Socket” Roberts and Mildred Knox Roberts. He attended Jonesville High School and was self- employed in recycling. Mr. Roberts was previously employed in construction.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Casey Roberts and friend Matt; a son: David Roberts and wife Kaci all of Cowpens; a granddaughter: Kylan Roberts; two step-sons: Trip James and wife April of Spartanburg and Robbie Blanton of Rutherford, NC; two step grandchildren: Sera Cochran and Jessie James; a half-brother: Clarence Ed Knox of Roebuck. Mr. Roberts was predeceased by a sister: Susan Roberts.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Charlie Glover. Burial will be at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Friday at the chapel prior to the services.
The family will be at their respective homes.

Mrs. Lori Ann Gardner Morris, age 49, wife of Jimmy Morris of 6620 Sweetbriar Trail, Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away, Saturday, March 24, 2012 at her home.

Mrs. Morris was born in Washington Court House, OH, April 11, 1962 a daughter of Barbara Martindale Gardner of Washington C.H., OH and the late James Gardner. Lori was of the Methodist faith and will be remembered for her loving heart and caring spirit.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter: Kim Bristow of Mt. Sterling, OH; two sons: Aaron Bristow of Chillicothe, OH and Kyle Bristow of Grove City, OH; two step-sons: Andy Morris (Teresa) and Matthew Morris both of Myrtle Beach, SC; three sisters: Beth Burge (Randall) of Washington C.H., OH, Susan Jones (Jeremy) of Chillicothe, OH and Debbie Delong (Ed) of Mt. Vernon, OH; a brother: Andy Gardner (Patricia) of Washington C.H., OH; special friends: Rodney Bristow and P.J. Spillars; six grandchildren: A.J. Bristow, Blanden Bristow, Aaron Bristow, Jr., Alexandria Bristow, Madalyn Bristow, and Kolsten Thomas and a step-granddaughter: Cheyenne Lawson of Buffalo, SC. Mrs. Morris was predeceased by a sister, Jennifer Zirkle and a niece Jessica Zirkle.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Union, SC, conducted by Rev. Benny Green.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM Thursday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret Vaughan Howell, age 88, widow of Maurice Howell of 151 Wesley Chapel Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Howell was born in Union, December 3, 1923, a daughter of the late Albert Sidney Vaughan and Frances Adams Vaughan. She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant after 35 years. Mrs. Howell was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where she was a member of the W.M.U., the Joy Club and the Santuary Choir.

Surviving are two daughters: Charlene H. Nance and husband Jerry of Union, and Marsha H. Fuller and husband Lewis of Clinton; two sons: O’Neil Howell and wife Janice of Union, and Charles Howell and wife Tanya of Shelby, NC; three sisters: Katie V. Johnson, Helen V. Belk and Dorothy V. Fowler all of Union; 6 grandchildren: Adam Howell and wife Lisa, Jane Taylor and husband Jamison, Dewayne Nance, Caleb Howell and wife Dawn, Brandon Fuller and Paige Nance; 6 great-grandchildren: Michael, Kaitlin, Bailey, and Lucas Howell, Carol Howell and Katie Taylor. Mrs. Howell was predeceased by a grandson: Ari O’Neil Howell.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale, Rev. Shawn Murphy, Rev. Tommy Mann and Rev. Robert Scott. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Howell’s grandsons: Adam Howell, Michael Howell, Caleb Howell, Dewayne Nance and Jamison Taylor.

The following are asked to assemble at the church at 2:45 Tuesday to form the honorary escort: O’Neil Bridges, Mike Palmer, Alfred Belk, Chief Russell Roark, John Roy Belk, Andy Fowler and Keith Vanderford. Members of Mrs. Howell’s Sunday School class are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening at Philippi Baptist Church.

Mrs. Patricia Ann Dillard Faulks, age 62, of Union, SC widow of Jerry Faulks, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Ellen Sager Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Mrs. Faulks was born in Spartanburg, SC., February 8, 1950 a daughter of the late Curtis Dillard and Lutresia Kirby Dillard. She was a member of the Church of God, Spartanburg and a graduate of Union High School.

Surviving are a daughter, Brandy Castro of Woodruff; a son, Jerry Curtis “JC” Faulks of Columbia; a sister, Maxine Candler of Union; a brother, Mike Dillard of Maiden, NC; and five Grandchildren.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Wayne Cooke.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the committal service.

Robert C. Spears
Columbia, SC

Mr. Robert C. Spears, age 95, formerly of Union, SC, widower of Lucile Cooper Spears, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at UniHealth of Blythewood in Columbia, SC, after several years of declining health.

Mr. Spears was born in Union, SC, January 20, 1917, a son of the late Ernest L. Spears, Sr. and Maude Kelly Spears. He was a graduate of Union High School and was a 1938 graduate of Clemson. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Spears was owner and operator of Eagle Grocery Co., which his father founded in 1913. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, of Union.

Mr. Spears is survived by a daughter Ann Gettys and husband John, Sr. of Columbia; grandchildren: Kathie Smith of Greer, John Gettys, Jr. and wife Pam of Aiken, Susan Gettys and Robert Gettys, both of Columbia; great grandchildren: Andrew, Marshall and Cooper Gettys of Leesville, and Hunter Smith of Greer; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Spears was predeceased by a brother, Ernest L. Spears, Jr. and a sister, Rita Spears Zeigler.

The family gratefully acknowledges the care and suppor Mr. Spears received from UniHealth of Blythewood, United Hospice and The Haven.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, March 23, 2012 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Rick Pendleton.

Nancy Gault Gann

Ms. Nancy Gault Gann, age 70, of 202 McPhearson Street, Union, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Oakmont of Union.

Ms. Gann was born in Union, SC December 30, 1941, a daughter of the late Margaret Gault. She was a graduate of Union High School and had attended Limestone College and Spartanburg Technical College. Ms. Gann was previously employed with Torrington & Co, Carlisle Finishing and United Merchants - Union Plant.

Surviving are two sons: Troy Gann and wife Denise of Boiling Springs and Tracy Gann and wife Darby of Union; a sister, Diane Wood and husband John Ray of Inman; two brothers: Bennie Ray Hildebrand and wife Nancy and Michael Edwards all of Jonesville; a special cousin, Cetora Kerr of Union; four grandchildren Lance Gann, Bailey Gann, Jordan Gann and Logan Gann and a number of nieces and nephews. Ms. Gann was predeceased by her sister, Lynn Fowler.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 22, 2012 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at he SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Raye H. Hawkins

Mrs. Raye Horn Hawkins, age 81, of 712 Arthur Blvd., Union, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at Skylyn Place in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Shelby, NC, June 5, 1930, a daughter of the late Simon William Horn and Lula Bridges Horn. She was a graduate of Union High School, Limestone College and received her Master of Education from Winthrop University. Mrs. Hawkins was retired from the Union Co. Sheriff’s Dept. and was previously a school teacher with the Union Co. School System. She was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Elizabeth Cabaniss and husband Allen of Union; a son: Charles H. “Chip” Hawkins, Jr. and fiancee Carrie Moore of Port Orange, FL; a sister: Betty Jean Belue of Jonesville; three grandchildren: Joe Fields Adams, III of Union and Laura Leigh Bailey of Charleston, and Tonya Foster, husband Richard of Pauline; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Peyton Foster. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by a brother, Simon William Horne, Jr.; a son-in-law: Joe Adams, Jr.; half-sister: Vernie Humphries; half-brothers: Horace Horn, Eugene Horn, and Edward Horn.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Thelma Davis Farner
Union, SC

Mrs. Thelma Davis Farner, age 86, of 681 Meadow Woods Road, Buffalo, SC, widow of Richard Calvin “RC” Farner, went home to be with the Lord, Monday afternoon, March 19, 2012.

Mrs. Farner was born in the Bogansville Community of Union County, SC on September 9, 1925, a daughter of the late Guy Stevens Davis and Lelia Melissa Gregory Davis. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was retired from Milliken and Co.-- Monarch Plant.

Mrs. Farner is survived by a daughter, Sue F. Barnett, with whom she made her home; one brother Marvin Davis of Union; one grandson, Jeff Barnett and wife Kim of Lexington, SC; and two great-grandsons Cole and Hayes Barnett also of Lexington. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Terry Mitchell.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the committal service.

Eloise Ward Wilson
Union, SC

Mrs. Eloise Ward Wilson, age 95, died Sunday morning, March 18, 2012 at Oakmont Nursing Home. Mrs. Wilson formerly resided at 205 Caterbury Road, Union, but had been in Oakmont Nursing Home for several years. She was born in Union, SC, April 10, 1916 to the late Oscar and Belle Porter Ward. Mrs. Wilson was the widow of George Edmond “Ed” Wilson.

Mrs. Wilson worked as a certified nursing assistant at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and at Wallace Thomson Hospital. She retired from the staff of the Presbyterian Home in Clinton and also served as a volunteer at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was involved in church activities until her health failed. She had been a Sunday School teacher, choir member, member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and worked with Girls’ Auxiliary. Mrs. Wilson had been Union County Baptist Association Director of Girls’ Auxiliary Programs.

Survivors are her two daughters, Juanita Thaxton of Spartanburg and Rebecca Prince and her husband David of Union. She had four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her twin sister, Louise Ward Billings, and her brothers, Truman Ward and James E “Buck” Ward.

The family will receive visitors at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel, 1:30-3:00 PM Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Services will follow at 3:00 PM conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman and Rev Tommy McManus. Burial will be in the Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 915 S. Pinckney Street, Union, SC 29379.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Oakmont Nursing Home for the efficient and compassionate care given their mother. Mrs. Wilson wanted it noted that she loved her long time caregiver, Karen Glenn, “as a daughter”.

Mrs. Jean Lee Martin, age 66 of 166 Wedgewood Rd., Jonesville, widow of Thomas “Buddy” Martin, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family, Friday, March 16, 2012 at Regional Hospice House, Spartanburg.

Mrs. Martin was born in Union, SC January 17, 1946, a daughter of the late John Henry Lee and Willie Bea Lee. She retired from Conso Products and had formerly worked at Carlisle Finishing and Claypat. Mrs. Martin was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Jonesville Senior Citizens and a caregiver, sitting with the elderly.

Surviving are two daughters: April Smith and husband Rev. Randy Smith of Jonesville and Gina Reynolds and husband Kirk of Gaffney; a sister, Alice Patrick of Lockhart; a brother, James Lee of Union; four granchildren: Rocky Smith and wife Stephanie, Ashley Dillon and husband Donivan, Amber Benton and T.C. Reynolds and seven great-grandchildren: Cayla, Abby and Ethan Smith, Marshall and Caleb Dillon, Makayla and Jacob Benton Mrs. Martin was predeceased by two brothers: Johnny Lee and Wardlaw Lee.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church conducted by Rev Randy Smith. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Miss Betty A. Sams
Union,SC

Miss Betty A. Sams , age 78 of 296 Meansville Road, Union, SC passed away Wednesday evening March 14. 2012 in Wallace Thomson Hospital following a period of declining health.

Miss Sams was born in Lockhart, SC on August 7,1933 a daughter of the late Roscoe Sams and Bertha Lowery Sams. She was retired from Milliken and Co.,Lockhart plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Miss Sams is survived by a sister, Pearl Sams of Lockhart, SC; a niece Delores G. Wade of Union; two nephews, Keith Gault and wife Nadie and Freddie Gault and wife Melodi all of Union; four great nephews Danny Wade of Jacksonville, FL, Trevor Gault of Taylors, Jon Nick Gault and Jacob Gault both of Union; one great niece, Chapel Gregory and husband Heath of Union; one great great niece, Zoe Gregory of Union. Miss Sams was predeceased by a sister, Rosa Sams Gault.

Graveside funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Jim Palmer.

Thaddeus Elwood “Ted” Palka
Union, SC

Mr. Thaddeus Elwood “Ted” Palka, husband of Dora Adams Palka of 1359 Pineland Rd., Union, SC passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at his home. Mr. Palka was formerly of West Lawn, PA.

Mr. Palka was born in Reading, PA February 19, 1954, a son of Thaddeus “Kingy” Palka and Arlean Shutt Palka of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. He was a 1972 graduate of Wilson High School where he was an avid football and baseball player and was a member of Wilson High School Booster Club. Mr. Palka coached the Owl Junior League Team and the Owl City County Baseball Team. He also was a member of the West Lawn Owls Sports Club. Mr. Palka earned a Bachelor Degree in Biology from Mansfield State College. He retired from Nestle Frozen Foods and was a member of the Globe Factory Implementation Team.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a daughter, Nicole Tyler and husband TJ; a son, Timothy Adams all of Union; three grandchildren: Madelyn Tyler and Gabriel Tyler both of Union and Sara Belle Adams of the home; two step-grandchildren: Kera Sellars of the home and CJ Waters of Gaffney; a sister, Pamela Kahn and husband Jim of Lake Ariel, PA; a special niece, Stephanie Kahn of Chapel Hill, NC; two special nephews: Stephen Kahn of Bethlehem, PA and Brian Kahn of Boise, ID; four nieces: Madison and Sara Faucett of Spartanburg, Megan and Claire Pridemore of Union; a nephew, Adams Faucett of Spartanburg; special friends: Bill and Margie Goodwin of Jonesville and Buck and Bessie Vinson of Union. Mr. Palka was predeceased by a brother, Larry Palka.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Allen Gregory. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Haney, Scott Ruppe, Billy Long, Rick Therrell, Lee Ramsey, Shep Wright, Rick Harris and William Kerns. Members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of Fairforest Baptist Church along with employees of Nestle Frozen Foods are asked to sit in a group.

William Martin Sistrunk, Sr
Carlisle, SC

Mr. William Martin Sistrunk, Sr age 83, husband of Sarah Henrietta Bass Sistrunk of 205 Oakdale Avenue, Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Sistrunk was born in Hamilton Co., FL September 11, 1928, a son of the late Owen Hampton Sistrunk and Minnie Iola Denmark. He retired from Milliken & Co-Monarch Mill and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Mr. Sistrunk was active in the Mon Aetna Deaf Ministry and was a member of the SC Association for the Deaf, Broad River Chapter. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: John Sistrunk and wife Shelly of Carlisle and William “Billy” M. Sistrunk, Jr and wife Jeanelle of Williamston ; a daughter, Jeanne Prince and husband John of Sumter; a family friend, “Aunt” Betty Epting of Carlisle; ten grandchildren: Jennifer Hile, John Prince, III, Nicole Phillips, Ezelis Sistrunk, Elisabeth Sistrunk, William M. Sistrunk, II, Ethan Sistrunk, Erin Stokes, Ashley Larson and Holli Russell and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Sistrunk was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dale Lynch and Rev. John Alvin Biggerstaff. Burial will be in Chester Memorial Gardens, Chester, SC.

Mrs. Emma Jean Millwood Miller, age 87 of Chantilly, VA, formerly of Buffalo vf c dx cc, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Fairfax, VA. She was the widow of Robert F. Miller.

Mrs. Miller was born in Buffalo, SC, September 15, 1924, a daughter of the late Nat M. Millwood and Emma Wright Millwood. She had attended Buffalo United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Nancy Walton and husband William of Phoenix, AZ and Debbie Bealby and husband Mark of Fairfax, VA and Norma Litsas and husband Nick of Gainesville, VA,; three sons: John Miller and wife Pat of Manassas, VA, James Miller and wife Violet of Chantilly, VA and Ron Miller of Falls Church, VA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Frank Millwood of Union and Henry “Bud” Millwood of Greer. Mr. Herbert Foster Johnson, Sr., age 83, widower of Jettie Shetley Johnson, 1711 Whitmire Hwy., Union, Tuesday March 13, 2012, at his home after a period of declining health.

Mr. Johnson was born in Union, May 10, 1928, a son of late William Z. Johnson and Etta Glass Johnson. He was a self-employed plumber and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the US Marine Corp having served during WWII. He was very active with the American Legion serving as a past District Commander and a past Local Commander.

Mr. Johnson was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are two daughters: Vicki Strother and husband Bob, and Sandra J. Johnson all of Greenville; three sons: Herbert F. Johnson, Jr. and wife Jeanette of St. Louis, MO, David K. Johnson and wife Angie of Ferrum, VA and Glenn E. Johnson of Union; and a number of beloved grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Veterans Memorial Building at Foster Park conducted by Rev. Robert Branch and Rev. Sanders Read.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at the Veteran’s Memorial Building prior to the funeral services.

Members of the American Legion will serve as the honorary escort.

Mr. Nelson Steven Jones, age 54, husband of Deborah McBrayer Jones of 19 County Rd., Spartanburg, passed away, Sunday March 11, 2012 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Jones was born in Union, February 8, 1958 a son of the late Lee. M. Jones and Betty Lockaby Jones. He was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Community College.

He was employed with the Local 421 Union as a pipe welder working for B. Shaw in Laurens.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Wild Bunch Motorcycle Club of Spartanburg and attended Arcadia First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Steven Wesley Jones; a daughter: Shelby Lynn Gosnell both of the home; two sisters: Pam Puckett and husband Roy of Union and Karen Lane and husband Charles of Spartanburg; one brother: Randall Lee Jones and wife Terry of Spartanburg. Mr. Jones was predeceased by a brother, Paul Russell Jones.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2012 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral conducted by Rev. Joey Burnett and Rev. Byron Wood. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Joseph James, Joe DeBolt, Douglas Pye, Stephen Hood, Chase Puckett and Richard Puckett.

Ms. Marjorie Spencer Stringer, age 86 of 1828 Fairhaven Drive, Columbia, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at Providence Hospital. Ms. Stringer was formerly of Jonesville.

Ms.Stringer was born in Jonesville, SC April 20, 1925, a daughter of the late Robert Henry Spencer and Pearl Ochiltree Spencer. She graduated from Jonesville High School; was formerly employed with the FBI and retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississipi. Ms. Stringer was a member of ST. Andrews Baptist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt.

Surviving are a daughter, Annette Givens; a son, William Stringer both of Dayton, OH; seven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Dorothy B. Smith of Columbia and Violet Cox of Franklin, NC and a special friend, Grace Bullock of Columbia. Ms. Stringer was predeceased by a brother, AC Spencer and Dean Spencer.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Dr. James Spencer. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Ms. Stringer’s nephews will serve as active pallbearers.

Mr. Roger Earl Millwood, age 49 of 208 Turner Avenue, Union, widow of Angela Darlene Smith Millwood, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012.

Mr. Millwood was born in Spartanburg, SC January 24, 1963, a son of Patricia Sizemore Stafford of Inman and the late Oscr Millwood.

Surviving are a son, Roger Allen Kirby of Spartanburg; two brothers: Ernest J. Stafford, Jr and Donald William Stafford both of Spartanburg; two aunts: Carolyn Beard and Lillian Crawford both of Pacolet. Mr. Millwood was predeceased by a son, Luke Millwood; a daughter, Hillary Millwood and a step-father Ernest James Stafford.

The family will be at the home of his aunt, Carolyn Beard, 201 Bryant Rd., Pacolet, where a Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2012.

Mrs. Myrl Agnes Nance Enlow Hall, age 87, of 111 Bridletrail Lane, Union, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill.

Mrs. Hall was born in Buffalo, SC March 14, 1924, a daughter of the late Malcolm Nance and Emmie Vinson Nance. She was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church and was first married to the late Noah Luther Enlow and secondly married to the late James Paul Hall.

Surviving are a son, Perry Enlow with whom she made her home; five grandchildren: Stacy Stephens and husband Darrell, Leslie McLeod and husband David, Edward Enlow and wife Diane, Angie Enlow and Eric Enlow; five great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Edith Nance of Whitmire. Mrs. Hall was predeceased by a son, Cecil Enlow.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess.

Mrs. Foster was born in Union, September 28, 1931, a daughter of the late William Brooks Sumner and Mary Etta Ward Sumner. She was retired from Inman Mills, Mountain Shoals Plant and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Sumner attended Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Patricia Smith and husband William and Teresa O’Sheilds and husband Ricky all of Union; two sons: Jerry Foster of Union and Terry Foster of Cowpens; a sister: Shirley Burnett of Union; two brothers: Jimmy Sumner of Union and Rev. Billy Sumner of Lancaster; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Carol Wayne Williams, age 71, husband of Brenda Cargill William of 118 Dana Tara Lane, Buffalo, passed away, Friday, March 9, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Williams was born in Union, February 7, 1941, a son of Rev. Boyd William of Union and the late Gertrude Ivey Grant. He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from the City of Union having worked as a supervisor in the gas department. Mr. Williams was a mason and a member of the Steel Guitar Association. He was a member Hillside Baptist where he served as a Deacon.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Kathy Woods and husband Randy; a son: Robert Wayne Williams and fiancee Sherri McCutcheon all of Buffalo; a sister Brenda Baker and husband Ralph of Union; two brothers: Jimmy Dean Williams and wife Diane of Buffalo and Charles Robert Williams of Union; grandchildren: Donald Wayne Williams and wife Jessica, Tiffany William and fiancee Travis Howell, Justin Williams, Chasity Ferrell and husband Tim, Noah McCutcheon, Jonah McCutcheon, Jessica Woods, Jeremy Woods, and Angel Ochiltree; great-grand children: Kaleb Williams, Hannah Williams, Savannah Williams, Emily Howell, Jacob Howell, Trent Howell, Adelynn Ferrell, Makenna Woods, Libby Allison, Peyton Ochiltree, and Jaden Ochiltree.

Bobby Maurice Kingsmore
Conway, SC

Bobby Maurice Kingsmore, 79, husband of Joyce McKinnon Kingsmore, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Waccamaw Community Hospital, Murrells Inlet, SC.

He was born June 26, 1932 in Buffalo, SC, the son of the late Eddie Leroy and Annie Stapleton Kingsmore. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rubye Avery.

Mr. Kingsmore was a graduate of Union High School Class of 1950, and attended the University of South Carolina. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in the Korean Conflict. He worked in the insurance business for 40 years. He rebuilt and tuned pianos for many people around the area. He taught small engine repair at Spartanburg Technical College, and retired from Spartan Automotive in the small engine department. He was a faithful former member of Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC, and was a member of University Baptist Church in Conway, SC. Over the years he has been able to take mission trips to help build and construct homes and churches.

Survivors including his wife are: two sons, Robert Clark Kingsmore and wife, Carol of Charlotte, NC, and Ed Kingsmore and wife, Stephanie of Conway, SC; one daughter, Ginger Kingsmore White of Myrtle Beach, SC; one sister, Irene Elkins of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne White, Steven Kelly White, Jr., Kathryn Kingsmore, Victoria Leigh White, Caroline Kingsmore, and William Kingsmore.

Mr. Kingsmore loved his family, church, and friends. “Papa” Bobby will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg and interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Putman Baptist Church Cemetery in Buffalo, SC. The family will receive friends at Morningside Baptist Church from 9:30 AM until service time.

Mrs. Helen Murray Laurens, age 80, of 110 Hidden Hill Rd., Union, widow of James Henry “Jim” Laurens, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury, NC.

Mrs. Laurens was born in Spartanburg, June 16, 1931, a daughter of the late Herman and Julia Mittage Murray. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and was retired from the Union Co. School District where she was an aid in the library and kindergarten departments at Foster Park and Excelsior Elementary Schools. Mrs. Laurens was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Hardee’s Breakfast Bunch.

Surviving are a daughter: Susan McLain and husband Ed and their children: Hill McClain and Adam McClain and wife Rachel all of Round Rock, TX; a son: Jay Laurens and wife Neely and their children: Drew, Matt, Ashley and Harley Laurens all of Salisbury, NC; a sister: Jean Rothrock of Spartanburg. Mrs. Laurens was predeceased by a sister, Edna Rhinehart and a brother, Herman Murray.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 12, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. David Caughman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Marian “Mac” Nance Hawkins, age 91, widow of Sam Leake Hawkins, formerly Hawkins Rd., passed away, Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in the Adamsburg community of Union Co., January 8, 1921, a daughter of the late Robert Little Nance and Fannie Goforth Nance. She was employed as a secretary with Milliken and Co. for 31 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a sister: Gladys “Doodle” Nance Sims of Union; two nieces: Faye Murphy Lustig and husband Chuck of Sumter and Marcia Nance Wilson and husband Jack of Spartanburg; two nephews: Barry R. Sims and wife Dori of Tampa, FL, and Michael R. Nance and wife Donna of Union; four grand-nieces: Barbara A. Lustig-Tillie, Patti L. Hart, Marie N. Heckert and Lindzey C. Thomason Neely; one grand-nephew: Kyle Nance; 2 great-grand-nieces and 2 great-grand-nephews. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by two sisters, Aleen Nance Murphy and Blanche Nance Johns and four brothers: John Curtis Nance, Robert Little “Buck” Nance, Asbury “Red” Nance, and Ray Hope Nance.

Mrs. Bebe Marie Lawson Malpass, age 75, wife of Charles L. Malpass of 158 Haney Rd. Buffalo, passed away, Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Malpass was born in Buffalo, April 13, 1936 a daughter of the late Robert Floyd Lawson and Lola Brooks Lawson. She was retired from United Merchants, Union Mill and was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons; Danny Ray and Sherree Malpass of the home, Donnie Mack Malpass and Ricky Lynn Malpass both of Buffalo; two brothers: Harold Lawson of Buffalo and Charles Lawson of Spartanburg; a sister: Polly Smith of Union and a dear friend, Helen Lawson of Union; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Malpass was predeceased by a brother, Danny Lawson.

Mr. James B. Clark
Union, SC

Mr. James B. Clark, age 86, husband of Deanie Parham Clark, of 107 Harris Street Union, passed away at 12:29 PM, Friday March 2, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Mr. Clark, lovingly known as “Bo,” was a son of the late William Earl and Pauline Bobo Clark. He was a US Army veteran of WWII having served with the 68th Infantry Division Anti Tank Company in the 271st Infantry Regiment. Mr. Clark was also retired with the South Carolina Army National Guard, Headquarters 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry. He was an active member of the Union Church of God, and retired from Milliken after serving thirty-seven years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Jamie Stepp and husband Joe of Union; one grandson: Coby Stepp and wife Michelle; a great-granddaughter, Amber Stepp of Chesnee, SC; one sister, Ruby Franklin of Toccoa, GA.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, March 5, 2012, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Thomas H. Brown. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 AM Monday in the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel prior to the service.
