Mrs. Patricia L. Frost, age 72, wife of Joel Frost, Sr. of 250 Gin Circle, Buffalo passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Frost was born in Union, SC October 13, 1940, a daughter of the late John Willard and Hoyt Henderson. She was retired from Greenleaf and was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Trevor Frost of Vallejo, CA; a son, Joel Frost, Jr. and wife Joan of Spartanburg; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Mrs. Frost was predeceased by a son, Victor Earl Frost.

A Memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 2, 2012 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman.

Visitation will be held in the chapel immediately following the service.

Edward E. Lawson, Sr.

Mr. Edward E. Lawson, Sr., age 57 of Union, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Oakmont of Union.

Mr. Lawson was born in Union, SC August 7, 1955, a son of Rev. Ralph Lawson, Sr of Buffalo and the late Janie Sue Jenkins Lawson. He was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his father are a son, Edward Lawson, Jr., and wife Monica of Spartanburg; a brother, Ralph Lawson, Jr. and wife Janet of Union; his ex-wife, Deborah Shannon Lawson and a special pet, Daisy Mae.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Bob Allen.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

Sandy Braxton Childers

Mrs. Sandy Braxton Childers, age 69 of 1208 West Main Street, Apt 1D, Union, SC passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Childers was born in Union, SC July 30, 1943, a daughter of the late Frank Braxton and Carrie Harrison Braxton. She retired from United Merchants -Buffalo Mill. Mrs. Childers was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was an avid baby sitter.
Surviving are two daughters: Mary Hixson and husband Frank of Union and Linda Arrowood and husband Sammy of Columbia; two sisters: Nancy Braxton Browning of Union and Mary O’Dell of Myrtle Beach; three brothers: Dean Braxton of Orangeburg, Tommy Braxton and wife Pat of Greenville, TN and Bruce Braxton and wife Beverly of Buffalo; two grandchildren: Stephanie Mosley of Buffalo and Carrie Cothran of the home; a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Mosley of Buffalo; an honorable granddaughter Haley Jackson of Union; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family members. Mrs. Childers was predeceased by a sister, Susan Braxton Harris, a brother, Jerry Braxton, Sr. and a sister-in-law, Patsy Griffin Braxton.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 27,2012 at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Callie Boulware Foster, 75, widow of Emslie Earl Foster, formerly of Sweetwater Drive, passed away on November 24, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

A native of Union, she was the daughter of Vera and Buron Boulware. Ms. Foster was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and served as the secretary of her Sunday School Class for several years. Ms. Foster’s last employment was as co-owner and secretary of Foster’s Building and Development Company.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann Fesperman Angermeier of Spartanburg, one granddaughter, Charlotte Foster of Rock Hill, and a grandson, Chad Foster of Greenville. She is also survived by two sisters in Union, Genelle Silvers and Shirley Goins and a brother, James Tesner and his wife Louise. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Allen Foster and his wife Brenda and brother-in-law Barry Foster and his wife Kathy. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Anthony Foster and a sister, Bernice Medford.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00-8:00 PM at SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Helen Gunning Allison, age 79, of 307 Lakeview Heights, Union, widow of Jack H. Allison, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Allison was born in Union, SC December 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Orville "Bo" Gunning and Victoria Allen Gunning. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken & Co - Cedar Hill Plant. Mrs. Allison was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was a member of the Golden Girls and a member of the Pearl Sanders Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a daughter, Vicki Allison of the home; two sons: Jack Allison and wife Donice and Joey Allison and wife Kathy all of Union; a sister, Ann Jones of Columbia; six grandchildren: Destiny Pigmon and husband Eric of Rock Hill, Hunter Allison of Greenville, Brad Allison of Union, Brandon Allison and wife Elizabeth of Rock Hill, Alyssa Dehart and husband Matthew of Carlisle and Tyler Allison of Greenville; three great-grandchildren: Cole Pigmon, Bret Pigmon and Blakely Allison all of Rock Hill.

Mrs. Mamie Louise Whiting Harris, age 76, widow of Archie Harris, formerly of Pacolet, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Harris was born in Cherokee Co., May 1, 1936, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Mamie Ingle Whiting. She was a retired textile worker and homemaker.

Surviving are a daughter: Corrie Ann Sprouse of Pacolet Mills; two sons: Ricky Harris of Cowpens and Tim Harris of Pacolet Mills, 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Betty W. Mahaffey

Mrs. Betty Lee Wilburn Mahaffey, age 86, widow of Henry Bennett Mahaffey, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. She was a resident of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Mahaffey was born in Union, September 11, 1926, a daughter of the late Erastus Jeter Wilburn and Minnie Lee Howe Wilburn. She was the last survivor of nine children. Mrs. Mahaffey attended Cross Anchor schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter: Hope Mahaffey Turner and husband Roger of Buffalo; a son: Henry Bennett Mahaffey, Jr. and wife Jo of Greenville; three grandchildren: Jennifer Wilkins Rogers and husband Brandon of Union; Beverly Wilkins Kurtz and husband Stephen of Buffalo; and Savannah Mahaffey of Greenville; five great-grandchildren: Rebekah, Rachel and Isabella Rogers of Union; Daniel and Nathan Kurtz of Buffalo; two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Jack Wilkins Rogers.

Mr. Alexander was born in Cleveland NC, November 28,1941, a son of Mary Helen Wallace Alexander of Clover and the late Otis Fred Alexander. He was a member of Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church and retired from Lockhart Power Company. Mr. Alexander was a Mason.

Mr. Vernon V. Abee, Jr., age 74, husband to Joyce Haney Abee for 57 years, of 516 Toluca Street, Union, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012.

Mr. Abee was born in Carlisle, SC August 11, 1938, a son of the late Vernon V. Abee, Sr and Irene Decker Abee Childers. He retired from Torrington after twenty-eight years of service and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard. Mr. Abee was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher of the Men’s Sunday School Class and played the bass guitar for the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Peggy Hollingsworth and husband Tim of Union; a sister, Ellen Duckett of Whitmire; a half-sister, Frances Baldwin; a half-brother, Dan Abee; six grandchildren: Jaime Strickland and husband Jeff of Union, Alison Quaranta and husband Sean of New York, Brooke H. Boulware and husband Chris of Spartanburg, Brianne H. Sanders and husband Dr. Scott Sanders of Spartanburg; Leigh Abee of Columbia and Jeff Abee and fiancee Breanna of Spartanburg; three great-grandchildren: Aidan Strickland, Ella Sanders, Emma Quaranta and one great-granddaughter, McKinley Sanders on the way. Mr. Abee was predeceased by a son, Steven Lynn Abee; a sister, Alice Cranford; two brothers, Robert Lee Abee and Billy F. Abee and two half-brothers: Michael Abee and Roger Dale Abee.

Mrs. Scott was born in Buffalo, June 14, 1942, a daughter of the late James and Loree Phillips Newton. She retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and had previously worked with United Merchants. Mrs. Scott was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church.

Surviving are two sisters: Margie Garner of Jonesville and Frances Boulware of Buffalo; two brothers: Elzie Newton and Buddy Newton both of Buffalo; several nieces and nephews including Michelle Austin who was reared in the home. Mrs. Scott was predeceased by a brother, Red Newton.

Mrs. Lee was predeceased by a daughter, Tina Gail Childers and a brother, George Smith.

Mrs. Barbara Boulware Smith, age 71, widow of Ted Copeland Smith, of 340 Millbank Rd., Wellford, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 15, 2012 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union, June 10, 1941 a daughter of the late Lewis V. and Pauline Keisler Boulware. She was retired from Reeves Brother in Spartanburg and was a member of Community Baptist Church in Wellford. Mrs. Smith was first married to the late Virgil Donald Dill.

Surviving are two daughters: Donna Carver and husband Dale of Fountain Inn and Kimberly Thomason of the home; two sons: Mickey Dill and wife Lori of Lyman and Mike Smith and wife Becky of Union; a step-son: Scott West of Union; a brother: James Boulware also of Union; 13 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by two sisters: Gliness Austin and Shirley Fox; and a brother: Lewis Vernon Boulware, Jr.

William Jackson Whitener
Union, SC

Union, SC--Col. William Jackson Whitener of Union died Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

Born April 21, 1922 in Mt. Holly, NC, Col. Whitener was a son of the late David Henry Whitener and Elizabeth Jane Barrett Whitener. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Martha Pacolet Sarratt Whitener. He grew up in Gastonia, NC and attended NC State University before graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1946. An Infantry officer, he served in varied assignments throughout the world, commanding a Reconnaissance Platoon in the 1st Infantry Division, Parachute Company in the 82nd Airborne Division, an Infantry Battalion in the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii, and a Mechanized Brigade in the 3rd Infantry Division in Germany. He held staff assignments at the Battalion, Battle Group, Regiment, and Army Group level. He taught English at the United States Military Academy and from 1967-69 was Chief of Staff there.

Col. Whitener received his Master of Arts in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University and his Master of Science in International Affairs from George Washington University. During his Army career, he graduated from the Infantry Officers Basic and Advanced Courses at Fort Benning, the US Army Command and Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College, the Naval War College, and the Air War College.

After retiring from the Army in 1975, Whitener became Dean of the University of South Carolina at Union from 1977 to 1984, becoming the first Dean Emeritus of that campus. He served on the SC Commission on Higher Education from 1985-93 and was Chairman of that Commission from 1988-93. During this time he served on Gov. Campbell’s Commission on the Future, the Board of Trustees of the SC Research Authority and the SC General Assembly’s Select Committee for the Education Improvement Act. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humanities by Lander University. In 1993, he was asked to serve as Interim Chancellor of the University of South Carolina-Upstate. During this time he was awarded the Order of the Palmetto.
Active in Rotary for over 37 years, Col. Whitener served as President of the Union club and as District Governor. He attended Rotary International conventions in Munich, Philadelphia, Seoul, Melbourne, Singapore, Portland, and Calgary. He was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church and the David Clyburn Sunday School Class.

Col. Whitener has recently concentrated on community activities in Union, working with the Union County Historical Society to reopen a Union County Museum, to create a historic trail through the county, and to purchase and restore the Cross Keys House. He was the founding chairman of the Union Community Foundation and worked to bring the Timken Sports Complex to Union. He was named Palmetto Patriot in 2010 and received the Union County Centennial Cornerstone Award in 2011. He was honored as the Union County Veteran of the Year in 2008 and 2012. He was actively working to bring an events center to Union and recently completed a memoir for his grandsons.
Col. Whitener is survived by one daughter, Martha and her husband Michael Todd Walker of Elberton, GA, two grandsons, William Jackson Whitener Walker of Atlanta and George Reid Walker of Elberton, as well as by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Palmer Fant of Independence, VA. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Hugh Dave Whitener of Gastonia, NC and Newell Russell Whitener of Greenwood, SC and one sister, Nell Whitener Lee of Columbia, SC. He truly loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed his nieces, nephews, cousins and their children. He was a great supporter of young people in his family, during his Army career, and while working in education. His greatest joys were encouraging people to reach for new and higher goals and inspiring others to the joy of service to church, community, state and country.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Friday, November 16, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church, Union, SC with visitation before the service at the church from 1until 3pm. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Mrs. Gayle Petty Purkey, age 69, wife of Ronald T. Purkey of 921 Gaffney Hwy, Jonesville, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 13, 2012 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Gayle was born in Jonesville, SC September 1, 1943, a daughter of the late Claude Petty and Katie Buice Petty. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Roebuck Builders in Spartanburg after twenty-five plus years of service. Gayle was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend who will be greatly missed.

Surviving in addition to her husband of fifty-one years are a sister, Ruby Edwards of Spartanburg; a brother, Boyce Martin of Pacolet; a special niece, Wanda Burgess of Columbus, NC; a special nephew, Dan Harvey of Spartanburg and several other nieces and nephews. Gayle was predeceased by a son, Todd Purkey; a sister, Thelma Harvey and four brothers, Henry Martin, James W. Martin, C.L. Martin and Charles Martin.

Mrs. Ruth Freeman Foster, age 88, of West End Manor Apts., Union, passed away, Tuesday November 13, 2012 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Foster was born in Paw Creek, NC, January 14, 1924 a daughter of the late Alex and Sue Lea Freeman. She was a homemaker and a member of Unity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Foster was first married to the late Ernest Bailey.

Surviving are four brothers: Ray Freeman and wife Ruby of Buffalo, Harold Freeman and wife Muriel and Pryor Freeman all of Jonesville and Alex Freeman and wife Joyce of Union; three grandchildren: Matthew Bailey of Johnson City, TN, David Bailey of Union and April Bailey of Greensboro, NC. Mrs. Foster was predeceased by a son, Ernest Bailey, Jr.

Milos A.“Mickey” Crayne

Mr. Milos Andrew “Mickey” Crayne, Jr., age 71, husband of Ruth Shetley Crayne of 128 Barber St., Union, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012.

Mr. Crayne was born in Union, May 10, 1941, a son of the late Milos “Mike” Andrew Crayne and Sallie Brock Crayne. He was a graduate of Union High School and worked hard during his life time for Milliken and Co. at different plants and retired from J.B.L. Parker Hannifin in Spartanburg. Mickey had also worked part-time over the years at Holcombe Funeral Home. He served his country for 35 years and retired from the S.C. National Guard, 4th Battalion 118th Infantry. Mickey loved the Lord and was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church for 50 years. He was a life time member of the John A. Fant/Union Masonic Lodge #75. Mickey loved being surrounded by people, talking and fellowshipping together. He was a beloved husband of 53 years, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was very proud of his family.

His children are Gloria and Toney Farr, Judy and Walker Gallman, Phil and Barbara Crayne. His grandchildren are Lance and Jennifer Gregory, Andrea Griffin, Daniel and Sally Gallman, Hannah Farr, Lennah Farr, Tee and Stacy Farr, Kacie and Shane Petrie, and Megan McCall; great-grandchildren are: Madison, Andrew and Elizabeth Gregory, Lydia Smith, Carson Petrie, Will, Jackson and Samuel Farr. Mickey is also survived by a brother: Gene Brock and wife Anne. His extended family includes sisters-in-law: Brenda Shetley, Ailene Ashe, Stella Quinn, Linda Williams and husband Claudie; a brother-in-law: Stewart Shetley and wife Betty and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mickey was predeceased by family members, Jettie and Herbert Johnson, John Quinn and Robert Shetley.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee, Rev. Tommy Hill, Mr. Claudie Williams and Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial with Military Honors will be in Union Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life and visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Active pallbearers will be Lance Gregory, Daniel Gallman, Tee Farr, Shane Petrie, Josh Robinson and Mark Williams.

Mr. Niconer Ervin “Nick” Hyatt, age 75, husband of Gail Champion Hyatt of 4155 Buffalo-West Springs Hyw. Jonesville, passed away, Monday, November 12, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr.Hyatt was born in Union, February 18, 1937, a son of the late Willias and Juanita Smith Hyatt. He was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant as a quality control engineer.

Mr. Hyatt was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Nikki Allen of Spartanburg; a step-daughter: Kristy Morris of Lexington,; two step-sons: Robby Gregory of Panama City, FL and Bryan Gregory of the home; a sister: Freida Fuller and husband Franklin of Union; Harold and Corrie Vaughan father and mother-in-law of Buffalo; 7 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Don Alexander. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

William B. Davis

Mr. William Bryan “Bill” Davis, age 87, husband of Elizabeth McDonald “Betty” Davis of 801 Musgrove St., Clinton, formerly of Union, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Agape Hospice Home in Laurens after an extended illness.

Mr. Davis was born in Stantonsburg, NC, August 27, 1925, a son of the late W.S. Davis and Sara Johnson Davis. He was a graduate of Stantonsburg High School and East Carolina University. Mr. Davis was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. He served proudly in the European Theater with the 29th Infantry Division participating in the invasion of Normandy. Mr. Davis was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Sunday School teacher. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are her brothers and their wives: Bill and Pat McDonald of Chapel Hill, NC and George and Bobbie McDonald of Charlotte, NC. Mr. Davis was predeceased by three sons: David Davis, Sandy Davis and Robert Davis.

A memorial service will be held 12:30 PM Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Mr. Keith Morrison.

There will also be a memorial service at 1:00 PM Monday, November 12, 2012 at The Presbyterian Home in Clinton.

Elizabeth Kirby Gist
Union, SC

Mrs. Elizabeth “Lib” Kirby Gist formerly of 253 Lakeside Dr., Union, gave up her earthly struggle and was lifted into the arms of her Lord on November 8, 2012.

Mrs. Gist was born in Union Co., September 22, 1930, the loving daughter of the late Lee Tate Kirby, whom she cared for in her home until his death, and the late Mary Cathren Kirby. She was a life-long member of Unity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gist was a beautiful Christian lady who chose as her ministry her talent and love of cooking for the needy, bereaved and sick. Her generosity to others was beyond measure.

Mrs. Gist is survived by a loving, faithful and special friend of many years, Freddie McAbee of Union; two sisters: Mary McMakin of Augusta, GA and Carolyn Matthews and husband Gene of Union; one brother: Harold Kirby and wife Grace of Columbia. Also, four nieces and two nephews whom she loved as her own children: Kathy Giles and husband Winston of Irmo, Linda Fidler and husband David of Lexington, Deana Gregory of Greenville, Kelley Blackston and husband Jason of Beaufort, Dennis McMakin of Atlanta, GA and David Matthews of Greenville. She was predeceased by her husband, Haye Fant Gist and a brother-in-law: Col. (Ret.) James McMakin.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Unity United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Bob Allen and Rev. John Cribb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00 PM prior to the services at the church Sunday.

Active pallbearers will be Mickey Cranford, Jim Russell, George Lancaster, Chris Stewart, Marion Stewart, Roy Youngblood, Danny Gossett and Marion McAbee.

Mrs. Nadine Mease McCall age 77, widow of Harry “Jack” McCall, Jr. of 307 Walker St., Union, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McCall was born April 2, 1935, in Canton, NC, a daughter of the late Leaton and Amy Henson Mease. Mrs. McCall was a loving mother and grandmother and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter: Candee Silvers and husband Scotty; three sons: Kenneth McCall, Tony McCall and wife Teresa, and Harry “Lane” McCall all of Union; five sisters: Donna Youngblood of Jonesville, Nina Austin of Buffalo, Pauline Sanders, Jaynelle Davis and Loretta Patrick all of Union; one brother: R.L. Mease of Florida; eight grandchildren: Monica Sinclair, Dustin McCall, Kacie Petrie, Megan McCall, Jake Mc Call, Corey McCall, Chelsie Silvers and Casey Felmet. Mrs. McCall was predeceased by two sisters: Emma Lee Inman and Berlyn Head.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Smith. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Ralph Thompson, age 71, husband of Mary Lois Wheeler of 1392 Pineland Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 at his home unexpectedly from heart complications.

Mr. Thompson was born in Union, July 20, 1941 a son of the late Eddie W. and Pearl Horne Thompson. He was a retired construction contractor, a member of Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge # 203, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Thompson was an avid bee-keeper, farmer and animal lover. He also enjoyed hunting as long as his health permitted.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son: Ralph Eugene Thompson and wife Janice T. of Union; two sisters: Louise Grady and husband Sonny and Shirley Lancaster and husband James all of Union; two brothers: Fred Thompson and wife Lilian of Aiken and Harold Thompson of Union; two grandchildren: Josh Thompson and wife Beth and Betsy Thompson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his father-in-law: George Wheeler; a sister-in-law: Janet Welchel and husband Wendell and two brothers-in-law: Tom Wheeler and David Wheeler and wife Robin Alexander all of Gaffney. Mr. Thompson was predeceased by a sister: Dorothy T. Robinson and two brothers: Eddie B. Thompson and Bobby Lee Thompson and his mother-in-law: Joan Wheeler.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. David Bauknight.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

John Wesley Cox

Mr. John Wesley Cox, age 45, of 712 Perrin Ave., Union, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Medical University of SC in Charleston.

Mr. Cox was born in Greenville, October 28, 1967, a son of Toni Evans Cox of Liberty and the late David F. Cox. He received an associates degree in criminal justice and was employed as a security guard. Mr. Cox was a veteran of the US Air Force, an avid wood-worker, photographer and was a Christian. He loved history, especially of Union County Churches.

Surviving in addition to his mother is a sister: Kathy Miles and husband Scott of Liberty; a brother: Paul Cox and wife Amy of Louisville, TN; a special friend: Priscilla Washington of Gaffney; a loving aunt and caregiver: Debra Cook of Union; an uncle: Carl Evans of Greenville; and special life long friend: Paul Rainwater of Union; five nephews and one niece.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Linda Sprouse Gregory, age 65, wife of James “J.T.” Gregory of 436 Oakland Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Gregory was born in Union, July 3, 1947 a daughter of late Leroy Jennings and Elizabeth Sprouse O’Shields. She was a graduate of Union High School and was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Gregory was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Wendi Foster and husband Mark and Brooke Baldwin and husband Buck all of Union; three sons: Clint Hutcherson and wife Carmen of Murrells Inlet, Brad Gregory and wife Mary Ann and Jamie Gregory all of Union; a brother: Clyde “Brother” Jennings and wife Marlene of Union; a nephew: Shane Jennings; grandchildren: Brandon Mobley, Heather Foster, Paige Foster, Caleb Hutcherson, Ashley Gregory, Elysha Gregory, Jayda Baldwin, Jamison Gregory, B.J. Gregory, Bronson Gregory, Cadence Hutcherson, Alexis Byrd, and Natalie Dow. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by a step-daughter, Rada Gregory.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
