Katie V. Johnson
Union, S.C.

Katie L. Vaughan Johnson, age 88, widow of E.L. "Roddy" Johnson, 526 Vanderford Road, Union, passed gently into God's care on Thursday, February 28, 2013.

Mrs. Johnson was born on February 20, 1925 in Union, S.C., the daughter of the late Albert Sydney Vaughan and Frances "Fannie" Adams Vaughan. She attended Union county schools and worked in Union Mill prior to moving to Columbia, S.C. in 1956. While living there she worked at State Printing Company for twelve years. In 1968 she and her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked for McFadden Publishing Company until her retirement in 1990. Upon retirement, she and her husband returned "home" to Union. She was a devout member of Philippi Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Women III Sunday School Class, WMU and the Joy Club.

She is survived by two devoted and loving daughters, Teresa S. Vanderford and husband Keith, and Nancy J. Hill and husband Jerome, both of Union. Her grandchildren are Bryan L. Brown and wife Maxine of Union and Stephanie B. Moss of Moore S.C. Her two great-grandchildren are Alex J. Brown and Kaitlyn M. Brown of Union. She is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy V. Fowler and Helen V. Belk of Union. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a sister, Margaret V. Howell.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale, Rev. Tommy Mann, Rev. Robert Scott and Rev. Shawn Murphy. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Alfred Belk, O'Neil Howell, Charles Howell, Andy Fowler, Dewayne Nance and Terry Bentley. Members of the Women III Sunday School Class, Mary Ann Kendrick, Kim Reardon, Jesse and Faye Bentley, Brenda and Bobby Joe Wood, Sandra Cain, Ervin Lewis, James Gregory, Debbie Morris, Brent Moss and Lynn Moss are asked to form the honorary escort.

The family extends a special thank you to all the wonderful caregivers with Hospice Care of South Carolina for their concern and care of Mrs. Johnson during her illness.

Donald R. Lawson
Pacolet, S.C.

Mr. Donald (Don) Russell Lawson, 79, was welcomed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was the son of late Harold and Ruby West Lawson, and was raised in Buffalo, S.C.

Mr. Lawson is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Joan Bishop Lawson; three sons, Russell Lawson and wife Kathy, Barry Lawson and wife Kristen, and Eric Lawson; four grandchildren, Calli Lawson, Mallori Lawson, Maya Lawson and Maria Lawson, and cherished in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lawson was a graduate of Mars Hill College and the University of South Carolina, and a veteran of the US Army with service during the Korean Conflict. He retired as Plant Controller for Milliken and Co., Lockhart Plant after 25 years of service.

Mr. Lawson had a personal relationship with the Lord, and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. He will be remembered most for his love of his wife, family and country and for being a lifelong USC Gamecock fan.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Dr. Jack C. Bishop, Jr., Rev. Jerry Lawson and Rev. Robert Jarvis. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the chapel prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be Stanley Wells, Paul Wells, Bruce Betenbaugh, Jack C. Bishop, Sr., Rodger E. Bishop and Ted Kelly.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Catherine Knoy and her staff at Carolina Dialysis Center along with Dr. Bruce Murdock, Dr. David Mullins, Dr. Joseph Mobley, Dr. James Dunn and Dr. Asim Pati for their care and concern for Mr. Lawson over the years.

Carrie Pansy Barber
Union, SC

Mrs. Carrie Pansy Barber, age 74 of 206 Cambridge Drive, Union , widow of James Donald Barber, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Barber was born in Union, SC September 28, 1938, a daughter of the late Jesse Brown and Edna Parks Brown. She retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital and was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle of God.

Mrs. Barber is survived by two daughters: Debra B. Garner and husband Donnie of Pacolet and Dawn Kelley of Union; a sister, Rebecca Smith of Enoree; a brother, Terry Brown of Union; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barber was predeceased by a son, Donnie Barber and a grandson, Michael Garner.

Graveside services will be held 12:00 Noon, Thursday, February 28 2013 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Mrs. Barber’s grandsons will serve as the honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Full Gospel Tabernacle of God, 2860 Buffalo West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, SC 29321.

Elizabeth Porter Brunet
Chester, SC

Mrs. Elizabeth Porter Brunet, age 81 of 4046A Mt. Pleasant Church Rd., Chester, SC passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Brunet was born in the Pinckney township of Union Co., SC April 25, 1931, a daughter of the late John H. Porter and Nannie Robbins Porter. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and was previously married to the late Clyde R. Brunet.

Surviving are two daughters: Vickie Young and husband Bobby of Chester and Gail Vinay and husband Paul of Rock Hill; a son, Gerald Porter and wife Kathy of Chester; five sisters: Mary Jo Ivey, Peggy P. Henderson, Patricia P. Enix, Katherine P. Harris and Linda P. Stephenson; two brothers: James N. Porter and John H. Porter all of Chester; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brunet was predeceased by a son, Bobby D. Brunet.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday in the church prior to the service.

Margaret F. Sichak
Pacolet, S.C.

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Freeman Sichak, age 88, widow of Stephen Sichak of 186 Hart St., Pacolet, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Born in Union, September 16, 1924, a daughter of the late Thomas Clingman Freeman and Neoma Jane Kirby Freeman, Mrs. Sichak attended school in Pacolet and was retired from Milliken and Co., Pacolet Mills Plant. She was a life-long member of the Pacolet Mills Baptist Church where she was a member of the Annette Greene Sunday School Class and the Ruth Walden Circle. Mrs. Sichak was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include three nieces: Imogene Hewitt of Union, Frances Manus of Myrtle Beach and Myrtis Olds of Omaha, NE; three nephews: Tommy Fowler and Paul Freeman of Pacolet and Ken Fowler of Union; two special great-nephews: Robbie Littlejohn of Jonesville and Jeff Littlejohn of Union; a special great-great-niece, Nicole Fowler of Pacolet and two special friends, Stanley Moore and Earline McGaha both of Pacolet. Mrs. Sichak was predeceased by a daughter: Beverly Jo Sichak; a sister, Louise Fowler and two brothers: James and Elbert Freeman.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, February 25, 2013 at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Norman Band and Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial will be at Pacolet Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be the following nephews: Marty Fowler, Jaime Fowler, Tim Fowler, Gregg Fowler, Jeff Gault, Shane Goings, Clint Goings and Michael Littlejohn.

The following nephews are asked to served as the honorary escort: Bruce Littlejohn, Lee Littlejohn, Rob Littlejohn, Cody Fowler, Damien King, Noah Fowler and Gene Freeman. Aileen Vaughan Ivey
Union, SC

Mrs. Aileen Vaughan Ivey, age 93, of 137 Frank Hill Loop Extension, Union, widow of LeRoy Ivey, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 21, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Ivey was born in Union, SC December 29, 1919, a daughter of the late James L. Vaughan and Eddie Gregory Vaughan. She had attended Hughes-Johnson School. Mrs. Ivey loved God and her church, Philippi Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in several capacities including teaching Children’s Sunday School for forty-three years. As a Christian homemaker, Mrs. Ivey enjoyed pleasing others with her cooking and baking. She also loved to garden. Mrs. Ivey was active with the S.C. Farm Bureau in Union County while her husband served as a Board Member and County Bureau President.

Surviving are a son, Glenn Ivey and wife Emily; a granddaughter, Ashley Ivey; a sister, Doris Eaves all of Union; many nieces, nephews and a special care giver, Virginia Epps who cared for both Aileen and LeRoy Ivey. Mrs. Ivey was predeceased by two sisters: Frances Robinson and ElizabethVaughan and a brother, James William Vaughan. The family would like to express special thanks to Medi Home Hospice.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Jesse Bentley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ben Ivey III, Mark Ivey, Ronnie Crocker, Brian Crocker, Fredrick Tucker and Freddie Barfield. The members of the Rachel Craig Sunday School Class of Philippi Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group.

Mrs. Minnie Austin Knox
Union, S. C.

Mrs. Minnie Austin Knox, age 87, of 1817 Jonesville Highway, Union, SC, widow of the late Lloyd C. Knox, passed away Monday afternoon, February 18, 2013, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Knox was born in Santuc, SC on April 23, 1926, a daughter of the late Nim Austin and Arzie Peahuff Austin. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and was retired from Oakmont of Union.

Surviving are: a sister, Gladys Henderson and a brother Doug Austin and wife Jan all of Union; eight grandchildren: Lynn Fox, April Beaty, Grace Jeter, Laura Parris, Summer Knox, Neil Burris, Kim Knox, and Christy Spears; and twenty great-grandchildren. Mrs. Knox was pre-deceased by: one daughter Judy Burris; two sons, Lloyd “Jonior” Knox and Frankie Knox; three sisters, Evelina Spoon, Elizabeth Lunsford, and Sue Wilbanks; and two brothers, John Austin and Fant Austin.

Grave side funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Allen Gregory. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Carol Jane Hood Adkins
Union, SC

Carol Jane Hood Adkins, of Union, passed away at her home on Sunday, February 10, 2013 following a courageous 4 ½ year battle against breast cancer.

Born in York on March 8, 1951 to the late Fay Mickle Hood and Margaret Pridemore Hood, she is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mickey Adkins, and a daughter, Melanie A. Jenkins, and son-in-law, Chad Jenkins of Newberry.

Mrs. Adkins was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Union, and a retired kindergarten teacher, having taught in York School District #1 for over 25 years. She , also, worked with her husband, Mickey, at Union Family Pharmacy as office manager for seven years, until their retirement in 2011.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by a sister, Mary Ann H. Wilkins (Tal) of Union, a brother, William Hood (Rozlynn) of Anderson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Susan Hood.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 101 West South Street, Union to celebrate her life, with visitation in the church fellowship hall following the service.

A fund is being established at First Presbyterian Church in Jane’s memory, to help ensure that all children have an opportunity to attend church camp and grown spiritually through the experience. In place of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 672, Union, SC 29379 designated for the “Camp for Kids Fund” or to the Union County Cancer Service, 117 Fant Lane, Union, SC 29379.

Margaret B. Nelson
Palm Coast, FL

Margaret Broderick Nelson, 96, of Palm Coast, Florida, formerly of Jonesville, South Carolina, passed away on February 9, 2013 in Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida. Widow of James Arthur Nelson, Sr. and daughter of the late William Eliam and Leona Griffin Broderick, of Jonesville.

Ms. Nelson was born in Jonesville and lived there for over 80 years, until moving to Florida in July 2000. She was a life-long member of the Jonesville Baptist Church and retired from the Jonesville Post Office.

Surviving are her daughter, Jan Glisson, of Jacksonville, Florida and son Jim Nelson of Flagler Beach, Florida; sister Mildred Self of Spartanburg, South Carolina, six grand children, seven great grand children, and one great, great grandchild. She is also preceded in death by her sisters Meredith Kearney and Elizabeth Hawkins.

Graveside services will be held at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery in Jonesville on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 11:00 am conducted by Rev. Jeffrey K. Dean and Rev. Ralph Brown.

Jimmy Donald Haney
Union, SC

Mr. Jimmy Donald Haney, age 47, husband of Michelle Dyer Haney of 215 Hoyt Drive, Union, SC passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Haney was born in Union, August 17, 1965, a son of the late Earlene Hawkins Haney and Gilliam Haney. He was owner and operator of Jimmy Haney Paint Contractors, LLC.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a step-mother, Lucy Haney of Union; two step-daughters, Jessica McAbee of Union and Erin Miller of Spartanburg; a step-son, Benjie Roberts of the home; a grandson, Joshua Miller of Jonesville; a sister, Joan Wilkins and husband Bobby of Pacolet; two brothers: Tommy Haney and wife Melinda and Shawn Haney and wife Angie all of Union; two nieces: Misty Heatherly and Christy Taylor and a nephew, Jay Haney.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Haney Cemetery conducted by Rev. John Lee.

Active pallbearers will be Aaron Heatherly, Jay Haney, Bary Taylor, David Wilkins, Robert West and Clay Frost.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Jenny Lynn Harvey

Mrs. Jenny Lynn Harvey, age 81, widow of Mack Harvey, of Jonesville, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Harvey was born in Union, March 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Forrest Howell and Pearl Bessie Sanders Howell. She attended Union High School and was a retired employee of the Community Cash Stores. Mrs. Harvey was a member of Gilead Baptist Church and was first married to the late William Linder.

Surviving are two daughters: Harriet Williams and husband Mike of Chesnee and Sherry Lawson and husband Richard of Union; two sons: Melvin Linder and Steve Linder both of Union; a step-daughter: Alice Faye Graham of Leesville and a brother: Frances Howell of Union; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Harvey was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Kitchens.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, February 11, 2013 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brian Williams, Chris Williams, Jami Linder, Jason Linder, Nic Linder, Jesse Linder and Michael Linder.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:45 PM Monday prior to the services in the church.

Douglas L. Howell, Sr.
Union, SC

Mr. Douglas Leon “Doug” Howell, Sr., age 68, husband of Sheila Bryant Howell of 211 Culp St., Union, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Howell was born in Union, April 25, 1944, a son of the late Woodrow “Woody” Howell and Beulah Lawson Howell. He was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and had currently worked in construction. Mr. Howell was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Tammy Gault and husband Ernest, Paula McKain and husband R.D. Williams and Chelsea Carroll all of Union; four sons: Kenneth Howell and wife Melissa, Steve Howell and wife Jennifer, and Michael Bryant all of Union, and Doug Howell and wife Jill of Buffalo; a sister: Kathy Medlock and husband Tommy of Beaufort; two brothers: Kenneth Howell and wife DeeDee of Grover, NC and John Davis of Union; 30 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Howell was predeceased by four sisters: Sue Howell Bryant, Inez Calhoun, Lois Howell and Charlotte “Shorty” Black; a sister-in-law: Gayle Davis; a brother: Allen “Bear” Howell; two great-grandsons: Eric Zane Morris II and Jeremiah Gory; and a granddaughter: Melissa Gault Ross.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, February 11, 2013, at Lakeside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kole Howell, Chance Howell, Steven Howell, Jr., Christopher Howell, Allen Millwood, and Wesley Millwood.

Kathy Lackey Soto
Blenheim, SC

Mrs. Kathy Dianne Lackey Soto, age 57, wife of Andy Soto of 329 Hwy 34, East, Blenheim, SC passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Cancer Treatment Center of America inTulsa, OK.

Mrs. Soto was born in Union, October 18, 1955, a daughter of the late Billy Lackey and Shirley Gallman Lackey. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mrs. Soto was employed with Waffle House of Florence for thirty years.

Surviving in addition to her husband is her step-mother, Janice Gault Lackey of Jonesville; a son, David Roberts and wife Kaci of Cowpens; a sister, DeeAnn Parks and husband John of Jonesville; two grandchildren: Kylan Roberts and James Roberts; a niece, Codie Parks; a nephew, Trey Parks both of Jonesville; an uncle, Benny Gibson of Union; two aunts and numerous cousins. Mrs. Soto was predeceased by a sister, Cindy Kirby; maternal grandparents, Newell and Vera Gallman; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Evelyn Ester Gibson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin and Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 PM Sunday in the chapel prior to the service.

Cynthia S. Inman
Union, SC

Mrs. Cynthia “Cindy” Seymore Inman, age 52, wife of Mark Inman of 1314 Browns Creek Church Rd., Union, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Inman was born in Union, SC September 23, 1960, a daughter of Martin Seymore and Hattie Grant Seymore of Union. She was a graduate of Union High School and received her Associated Degree from the University of S.C.. Mrs. Inman was a longtime employee of Dianne Martin and Associates of Union. She was a member and Choir Director for her beloved Lower Fairforest Baptist Church. She loved music, playing the piano and passed her gift on to her children.

Surviving in addition to her parents and her loving husband Mark of thirty-three years are two sons, Jonathan and Scott Inman of the home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Cunningham. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM in the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Rebecca Ann Davis Turner, age 73, widow of Noah Thomas “Sonny” Turner, of 121 Bird St., Union, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Turner was born in Union, September 1, 1939, a daughter of the late Lucius and Fannie Brannon Davis. She was retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital as a CNA and was a member of Greater Union Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Kathy Bay and fiancee Marty Heatherly of the home and Rhonda Benton and husband Jerry “Butch” Benton of Union; three sons: William Turner and wife Ann, Eddie Turner and wife Tracy all of Buffalo and Michael Turner and wife Dianne of Union; two sisters: Bonita Alexander of Union and Agnes Phillips of Buffalo; five brothers: Paul Davis, Otis Davis, and Charles Davis all of Union and Roger Davis and Dennis Davis both of Whitmire; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Turner was predeceased by two grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and three sisters: Lottie Stoner, Bonnie Bramlett, and Evelyn Parham.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Greater Union Church conducted by Rev. Roger Estes and Rev. Walter Parham. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Rickey Black, Albert Roark, Pete McKeon, John Gunter, Ronnie Small and Sam Phillips. Ronald Garner, James Bramlett and Phillip Quinn are asked to assemble at the church at 2:45 PM to form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held at the home, 121 Bird St., Union, Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.


Hoyt Haney
Union, S.C.

Mr. Hoyt Haney, age 82, widower of Vivian Addis “Sis” Haney of 1128 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Monday February 4, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Haney was born in Pea Ridge, July 18, 1930, a son of the late Horace G. Haney and Clara Bell James Haney. He was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and had served his country in the US Army Paratroopers. Mr. Haney was a retired South Carolina ABC agent and later owned and operated Plantin Place. He also wrote the column called “The Pea Ridge News” for the Union Daily Times and previously for the Grapevine.

Mr. Haney was a 50 year member of the Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge, a 40 year member of the Union - York Rite Bodies, the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the Hejaz Shriners. He was a member of the Jonesville American Legion, the Redmen of Buffalo and had served on the Board of the Kelly-Kelton Fire Dept.

An active member of Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Mr. Haney served as head usher and had served on several committees of the church over the years. Mr. Hoyt and Mrs. Sis were considered as “adopted grandparents” to many children of the church, offering little tokens of love every Sunday. Mr. Haney was a very loved and respected gentleman by his many friends, his community and his family.

Survivors include nephews: Kenneth “Cooter” Knox and wife Marie, Dennis “Sput” Knox and David Knox and wife Mary, Steven Addis and Donald Addis all of Union and Jeff Addis of Jonesville; neices: Frances K. Burton of Greenville, Leslie Putze and husband Mike of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law: Ada Gregg of Jonesville; special caregivers: Beth Martin and Jane Lawson; and several close cousins.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday February 7, 2013 at Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Farr, Howard Whitehead, Bubba Harvey, Calvin Payton, Cam Robinson and Evans Crocker.

The following are asked to served as the honorary escort: Bogan Fowler, J.D. Bright, Billy Gregory, Michael “Snake” Robinson, Sheriff David Taylor, William Jolly and Howard Wells. Present and former members of Union Co. Law Enforcement and Union Co. Firefighters are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Barbara Ford Puckett
Union, SC

Mrs. Barbara Ford Puckett, age 84 of 2311 Jonesville Hwy, Union, widow of Robert Puckett, went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 4, 2013.

Mrs. Puckett was born in Buffalo, SC February 25, 1928, a daughter of the late Ernest Ford and Mae Douglas Ford. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from the Union County Department of Social Services. Mrs. Puckett was a faithful member of Fairforest Baptist Church where she served on the Hostess Committee; enjoyed volunteering at Wallace Thomson Hospital and loved being surrounded by her family. Mrs. Puckett was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Barbara took great joy and delight in all of her family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters: Susan Hart and husband C.T. and Patti Lemaster and husband Harold all of Union; five grandchildren: Tommy Hart and wife Wendy, David Hart, both of Union, Alicia Palmer and husband Jesse of Gaffney, Clair Doar and husband John of Greer and Greta Fuller and husband Stuart of Taylors; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Puckett was predeceased by four sisters: Jesse Wilbanks, Wilma Mayes, Inez Sumner and Allene Crocker.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Allan Gregory and Rev. Stuart Fuller. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Hart, David Hart, John Doar, Stuart Fuller, Jesse Palmer, Justin Hart, Jordan Hart and Nicholas Hart.

Lottie Sherbert Estes
Spartanburg, S.C.

Mrs. Lottie Sherbert Estes, age 85, widow of Clarence William Estes, formerly of Hamilton Ave., Spartanburg, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Estes was born in Pauline, June 4, 1927, a daughter of the late William Carlisle Sherbert and Alber Louise Smith Sherbert. She was a graduate of West Springs High School and was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

Ms. Lottie leaves a legacy of strong family values and work ethic. Without words, she and our father set the standard that you will work hard and you will love and support your family and friends. This standard was set by their actions year after year. This is a legacy that we strive to pass along to our children and grandchildren. Building character and love of God and mankind is the best gift a parent can give a child.

Ms. Lottie met a tall handsome young man Clarence Estes when she lived on College Street. This was the beginning of a true love story. They married on July 4, 1948. She loved the Estes family so much. And the Estes family loved her. Clarence died 30 years ago. Her heart ached for him. Now, they are together again.

In her later years, Ms. Lottie was truly blessed to have wonderful care givers. Their job was “Driving Ms. Lottie” We honor: Kim Gregory, Barbara Epps, Carol Petty and Paula Doty.

Surviving are two daughters: Deborah Estes Auerbach and husband Bruce of Baltimore, MD and Patricia Estes White and husband Don of Anderson; four grandchildren: Benjamin C. Auerbach and wife Sarah Lockwitz, Claire Estes Auerbach, Ashley White Donato and husband Chris and Elizabeth White Shealy and husband Robby; four great-grandchildren: Daniel Donato, William Donato, Van Shealy and Nora Kate Shealy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Robert Williams, John Williams, Chris Donato, Samuel Snyder and Robby Shealy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Freeman, Dennis Sherbert, Tom Sherbert and Jimmy Sherbert.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM in the chapel prior to the services.
