M. Keith Henderson
Union, SC

Mr. M. Keith “Fat Back” Henderson, age 55, husband of Olivia Faye Moore Henderson of 113 Bowling Avenue, Union, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Henderson was born in Union, December 19, 1957, a son of the late Robert Keith Henderson and Doris Laxton Henderson. He was a 1977graduate of Union High School and also a graduate of Nashville Automotive and Diesel College. Mr. Henderson was the third generation as owner and operator of Henderson Plumbing. Keith often said “ If man made it, I can fix it”.

Mr. Henderson was currently serving his third term on the Union City Council and was serving as Mayor Pro Tem. Keith was an avid fisherman and a member of several Fishing Clubs. He loved running Hog Heaven Guide Services and was feared by many anglers and the fish. He was a member of Oakbook Community Church and a member of the John A. Fant Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his beloved puppies, Daisey & Molly in addition to his wife and his son: Brian Keith Henderson and wife Casie; a step-daughter, Wanda Rollins and husband Chad all of Union; four grandchildren: William Keith Henderson, Cooper Glenn Henderson, Seth Rollins and Elizabeth Rollins; three sisters: Cheryl Henderson, Patricia Vanderford both of Union and Jean Harvey and husband Ken of Gaffney and a brother, Richard Henderson and wife Wendy of Union.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess. Employees of Henderson Plumbing and Mr. Henderson’s fishing buddies are asked to serve as the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Bobby Ray Kirby, Sr.
Murrells Inlet, SC

Bobby Ray Kirby, Sr., age 78, of Murrells Inlet, formerly of Jonesville, passed away Saturday January 26, 2013 at the Medical University of SC.

Born August 24, 1934 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Homer and Nannie Kirby. Mr. Kirby was retired from the US Air Force as a loadmaster on flight status and traveled all over the world. He made air drops to both the North and South Pole. He was an instructor for the USAF and Army and trained them to load aircrafts. He earned many medals including the Army and Air Force Commendation medals. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murrells Inlet, SC. Mr. Kirby was a member of the Mason Prudence Lodge #139 in Jonesville, SC. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and a grandchild.

Survivors include wife, Wanda W. Kirby of Murrells Inlet; sons Bobby (Susan) Kirby, Jr. and Michael (Ines) Kirby both of Jonesville, SC; daughters Sherry Smith of Jonesville, SC and Teresa (Mark) Jolly of Moncks Corner, SC; a step son Jeff (Renee) Shipley of Gaffney, SC;a step daughter Missy (Steve) Edwards of Shelby, NC; 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two brothers, and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home.

A memorial service will also be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel. The family will be at the home of his son, Michael Kirby, 150 Littlefield Ext., Jonesville, on Thursday and Friday.

Elaine Porter Youngblood
Union, SC

Mrs. Elaine Porter Youngblood, age 72 of 211 Adams Lake Rd., Union, widow of Thomas B. Youngblood, Sr., passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Youngblood was born in Chester, SC August 19, 1940, a daughter of the late Horace Lee Porter and Edna Robbins Porter. She retired from Milliken & Co - Lockhart Mill and was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church. Mrs. Youngblood was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving are three daughters: Kimberly Youngblood and husband Jeffrey Goldman with whom Mrs. Youngblood made her home, Tonya Revis and husband Donald of Pacolet and Robin Bailey of Union; three sisters: Dane Carter of Lockhart, Joanne Gibson and Carolyn Belue both of Union; three brothers: Horace L. Porter, Jr., Sonny Porter both of Chester and Eddie Porter of Union; four grandchildren: Rhiannon Revis, Cheyenne Goldman, Alaina Inman and Cierra Grace Goldman; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law all of Chester. Mrs. Youngblood was predeceased by a son, Thomas Barry Youngblood, Jr and six sisters and a brother.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Lockhart First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ben Hill.

Visitation will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday in the church prior to the service.

Clarke W. Perrin
Union, S.C.

Mr. Clarke Wardlaw Perrin, age 94, husband of Laura Elizabeth Keller Perrin, formerly of Union, now residing in the Presbyterian Community of Clinton, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Laurens Co. Hospital.

Mr. Perrin was born in Union, July 18, 1918, a son of the late George Cloptin Perrin, Jr. and Helen Littlejohn Perrin. He graduated Union High School and The University of South Carolina. He worked briefly for the US Treasury Department and taught school in Florence, SC. Mr. Perrin then spent 15 years with the Union County Schools as Finance Officer. He was a deacon, elder, and lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Union. He was Trustee Emeritus of the Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina. Mr. Perrin was a member of the Lions Club for 62 years and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow. He had formerly served as a Director of the Union YMCA and was a former member of the Union Co. Commission on Higher Education which oversees the campus of the University of South Carolina, Union and Laurens.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is also survived by their two daughters: Georgia Anne Perrin of Spartanburg and Robin Perrin Brown and husband, C.L. “Dean” Brown of Georgetown; two grandsons: David Carradean Brown and Robert Perrin Brown; a sister, Helen Perrin Bowen. Mr. Perrin was predeceased by a sister, Ida P. Abercrombie and two brothers, Kenneth and Thomas Perrin.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Morrison. Burial will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 1:00PM until 2:00 PM in the church parlor, prior to the funeral services.

Homer L. West
Union, S.C.

Mr. Homer Lee West, age 77, widower of Joyce Puckett West, formerly of Union, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Hospice of the Carolinas Foothills in Landrum.

Mr. West was born in Chester, May 30, 1935, a son of the late Monroe West and Ruby West Estes and was raised also in the home of Lee and Lily “Mom” Spelts. Mr. West was retired from Milliken Co., Monarch Plant and was veteran of the US Army.

Surviving are three daughters: Barbara W. Wolfe and husband Paul of Pauline, Donna W. Holcombe and husband David, Brenda Buchanan and husband George all of Union; four sisters: Shirley Stalnaker of Charlotte, NC, Lillian Sims of Lancaster, Pearl Dubose of Lowery, and Savannah Sumner of Newberry; one brother: Billy Estes of Columbia; five grandchildren: Stephen Christopher Harris, Adam Jeffrey Harris, Britney Nicole Holcombe, Dylan Kyle Holcombe and Hunter Brian Wolfe. Mr. West was predeceased by a grandson: Jeremy Christopher Holcombe; two sisters: Elsie S. Barnes and Mary S. Sumner and a brother: Bufford Spelts.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Branch.

Visitation will be held at the cemetery following the services.

Gene Smith
Waterloo, S.C.

Mr. Gene Smith, age 23, of 158 Log Circle, Waterloo, went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 25, 2013 at Laurens County Hospital after a brief illness.

Gene was born in Spartanburg June 25, 1989, the son of Deborah Smith Southard of the home. He graduated Lander College, April 2012, receiving his bachelors degree in business and was employed with Wells Fargo Bank in Clinton. Gene had previously worked for the Laurens Co. Hospital and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He was a tender hearted soul and a humble, gentle man, who had many caring friends. Gene touched the lives of everyone he met.

Surviving in addition to his mother is his fiancee: Christa Lee Taylor of Laurens who he was to marry March 30, 2013; his brother: Caden Jackson of Buffalo; his father: Eddie Smith of Union; a special friend: Mike Lanford of Woodruff; an aunt: Barbara Brown and his beloved pet, Wilson. Gene was predeceased by his step-father, Mike Southard and his maternal grandparents, Bobby and Jean Brown Smith Stewart.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, January 28, 2013 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Rick Henderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Ivey, Mike Ivey, Brad Lawson, Jason Spencer, Curt Taylor and Phillip McMurray. Employees of the Wells Fargo Bank in Clinton and the staff of Laurens Co. Hospital with whom Gene worked, are asked to sit in a group.

The family will receive friends at the home, 158 Log Circle, Waterloo.

Curtis "Bill" Babb
Buffalo S.C.

Mr. Curtis William “Bill” Babb age 84, husband of Hazel O’Shield Babb of 3639 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Babb was born in Union, September 5, 1928, a son of the late Curtis and Myrtle Billings Babb. He attended Union Co. Schools and was retired from American Fast Print in Spartanburg. Mr. Babb was a faithful member of Putman Baptist Church where he had previously served on the cemetery committee. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII and enjoyed flying light planes.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Janis B. Sanders and husband Jimmy of Greenwood; a brother: Paul Babb and wife Eleanor of Bishopville; two grandsons: Jay Sanders and wife Alayna of Greenwood and Kent Babb and wife Whitney of Washington, DC and a special pet and faithful companion, Loafer. Mr. Babb was predeceased by a son, Michael Babb.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Wallace Thomson Hospital and to Dr. David Keith for their care and concern of Mr. Babb during his illness.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Rick Henderson and Rev. Dr. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the church from 1:45 until 2:45PM Sunday prior to the services.

Sherri A. Pruitt
Pauline, S.C.

Mrs. Sherri Lynn Arthur Pruitt, age 49, wife of Ronnie Pruitt of 1096 Riddle Rd., Pauline, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Pruitt was born in Union, May 5, 1963 a daughter of Amelia Ann Cody of Union and the late James A. Arthur. She was a graduate of USC-Upstate and was a History teacher at Union Christian Day School. Mrs. Pruitt was a member of Greater Union church where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Puppet Ministry. Sherri was a loving and devoted daughter, wife and mother.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother is a daughter: Ashley Lynn Pruitt of the home; a brother: Allen Arthur and wife Tammy Broome Arthur of Chester; her mother and father-in-law: James and Estelle Pruitt; a sister-in-law: Beth Jennings and husband Tim; two brothers-in-law: Nelson Pruitt and wife Debbie and David Pruitt all of Pauline; her maternal grandfather: Dr. John Cody of Union; two nieces: Ally Arthur and Elsie Jennings; three nephews: Allen Pruitt and wife Arielle, Michael Jennings and David Pruitt, II; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Mrs. Pruitt was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Maxine L. Cody and her paternal grandparents, Harry and Clarice Arthur.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Greater Union Church conducted by Dr. John Cody and Rev. Roger Estes. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Teachers and student body of Union Christian Day School are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held at the church after the committal services.

Willie D. Erwin

Mr. Willie Dever Erwin, age 82, husband of Doris Rochester Erwin of 465 Eaves Rd., Whitmire, formerly of Buffalo, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at his home after a period of declining health.

Mr. Erwin was born in Gaffney, April 24, 1930, a son of the late Claude and Mattie Thompson Erwin. He was a retired textile worker and a former member of the SC National Guard. Mr. Erwin was a member of Calvary Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Virginia LaForme and husband Bert of Chesnee; four sons: Danny Erwin and wife Kathy of Union, David Erwin and wife Terri of Laurens, Jerry Erwin and wife Sadie of Whitmire, and Billy Erwin of Pacolet; a sister: Sarah Heatherly and husband Ronnie of Buffalo; a brother: Leonard Erwin and wife Frances of Union; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Mr. Erwin was predeceased by a son, Eugene Erwin; two sisters: Agnes Osborne and Pearlene Fowler; and two brothers: Walter Erwin and Jack Erwin.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Friday, January 25, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Branch and Rev. Dennis Spencer. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Erwin, Dennis Erwin, Jeff Erwin, Michael Erwin, Pat Johnston, Paul Phillips, Johnny Reynolds, and William Wilson.

John Wesley Greer
Union, SC

Mr. John Wesley Greer, age 91, of Huntsville, AL, formerly of Union, died Friday, January 18, 2013.

Mr. Greer was born to the late James Byers Greer, and the late Lucy Wilburn Greer, August 29, 1921 in Pacolet, SC. He graduated from Union High School and was married to the late Frances Hill in 1945. They lived together in Union for sixty five years, before he relocated to Huntsville, AL following her passing away.

Mr. Greer was an active member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, and was also a Life Member of the American Legion, and was Past Commander of Post #22 in Union. He was a Master Mason for more than fifty years in Masonic Lodge of Union. Mr. Greer was also a Board Member of Union County Election Commission and was employed by the US Postal Service for more than thirty years.

During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was awarded two Purple Hearts for wounds he received during battles on Iwo Jima, part of the Volcano Islands of Japan. The battles were the first American attack on Japanese home territory, and the Japanese soldiers and US Marine Corps defended their positions tenaciously with no thought of surrender. Iwo Jima was also the only battles by the U.S. Marine Corps in which the overall American casualties (killed and wounded) exceeded those of the Japanese.

Mr. Greer is survived by a son, John Hicks Greer and wife Joanne Hodge Greer of Huntsville, AL.: a grandson, John Hicks Greer, Jr., Huntsville, AL; and a granddaughter, Joanna Greer Koch, and grandson-in-law Dr. Darren G. Koch, Cary, NC.

Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 12:00 PM Friday, January 25, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. John W. Culp and Dr. Fred S. Miller.

Visitation immediately following the service in the chapel. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Anna Mae O'Shields
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Anna Mae Gossett O’Shields, age 89, widow of Harrison O’Shields formerly of Buffalo, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a long illness.

Mrs. O’Shields was born in Union, March 3, 1923, a daughter of the late Albert Henry Gossett, Sr. and Anna Sprouse Gossett. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. Mrs. O’Shields was a member of Putman Baptist Church where she was a member of the Guiding Light Sunday School Class. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving is a sister-in-law: Ruth Gossett and several nieces and nephews including a special niece Ann Gossett of Jonesville. Mrs. O’Shields was predeceased by three sisters: Henrietta Blackwell, Bernice Fowler and Ethel Wade; and seven brothers: Eugene Gossett, Harold Gossett, Charles Gossett, Herbert Gossett, Marion Gossett, Fred Gossett and Albert H. (Buck) Gossett, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 3:00PM Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Rick Henderson, Rev. Dr. Donald Tillman and Chaplain Vernon Thornhill. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 PM Thursday prior to the service in the church.

Margaret Gregory Reardon

Mrs. Margaret Gregory Reardon, age 83, of 317 North 1ST Street, Lockhart, widow of Boyd Raymond Reardon, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Reardon was born November 23, 1929, a daughter of the late Robert Norman and Louise Plexico Gregory. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and Montreat College. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Lockhart, S.C., Cane Creek Presbyterian Women, and Lockhart Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Reardon was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, who enjoyed family gatherings and flower gardening.

Surviving are a daughter, Norma Bickley and husband Les of Chapin, SC; a son, Keith Reardon and wife Kim of Union; a granddaughter, Kira Reardon of Union; three sisters, Cora Jenkins of Lockhart, Frances Young and husband Jerry of Greenwood, and Laura Carter and husband George of Spartanburg; two brothers, Bobby Gregory and wife Barbara of Boiling Springs and Hugh Gregory and wife June of Lockhart; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Gregory.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Lockhart Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Steve Lemons, Rev. Brad Goodale, and Rev. Calvin Smith. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Marty Reardon, Richard Gregory, David Jenkins, Tim Carter, Danny Young, Chase Folk, Tony Young, and Freeman Reardon.

The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, the Lockhart Senior Citizens Club and Oakmont Assisted Living Employees.

Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Charles L. Crumbacher
Pacolet, SC

Mr. Charles L. Crumbacher, age 75, husband of Patricia Moon Crumbacher of 2545 Jerusalem Rd., Pacolet, SC passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Crumbacher was born in Indiana August 26, 1937, a son of Charlene Smith Crumbacher of Indiana and the late Everette Lee Crumbacher. He was a graduate of Poseyville High School and a retired industrial construction worker. Mr.Crumbacher was a Veteran of the US Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters: Christy Duncan and Fiancé Ricey Kerry of Enoree and Jodie Giles of Indiana; two sons: Dwayne Duncan and wife Tammy of MS. and Jeffrey Crumbacher of IN; a sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” Boyle of IN; two brothers: Wendell Crumbacher and Rob Crumbacher both of IN; a special sister-in-law, Kelly Moon of Jonesville and eight grandchildren. Mr. Crumbacher was predeceased by two sons, Jesse Duncan and Kenneth Duncan.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Ricey Kerr, Joshua Robbins, Jesse Robbins, Roger Ferebee, Cameron Ferebee and James Bell.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Monday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Lib” McCullough Farr Fowler, age 98 of 1257 Kelly Rd., Union, SC went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Fowler was twice married, first to the late Lewis E. Farr and then to the late John T. Fowler.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Gaffney, SC May 8, 1914, a daughter of the late John Travis McCullough and Hettie Bailey McCullough. She was formerly employed with Conso and Jonesville Products and was a member of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Fowler was loved by all generations of her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Jo Farr Gallman and husband Dean of Union; a sister, Deanie Garner of Gaffney; three grandchildren: Joan Ponder, David Gallman and wife Julie and Michelle Turner Grayson and husband Chris; eight great-grandchildren: Angela Fowler and husband Donnie, Chad Ponder and wife Sherie, Phillip Gallman, Chelsey Humphries, Bridgett Humphries, Taylor Humphries, Rebecca Gallman and Caroline Gallman; six great-great-grandchildren: Robert Fowler, Amanda Fowler, Logan Ponder, Kinsley Gallman, Skylyn Humphries, Kyan Tucker and a great-great-great-granddaughter, Gianna Fowler. Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by a daughter, Patsy Farr Turner and husband J. D. Turner, Jr and a son, Billy Gee Farr; three sisters: Annie Mae Lee, Hazel Garner and Violet Garner; three brothers: Ben McCullough, Dick McCullough and Red McCullough and two grandsons, Gerald Gallman and Michael Gallman.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Monday, January 21, 2013 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Lemons and Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Johnston Lee, Peter Garner, Butch McCullough, Ronnie Garner, Earl Garner and Toney Farr. Mrs. Barbara June Posey Sexton, age 73, wife of John Sexton, Sr., of 220 Carem Rd., Union, SC passed away, Saturday, June 19, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Sexton was born in Union, SC April 21, 1939, a daughter of the late William David Posey and Louise Knox Posey. She was a graduate of Union High School and a member of McCutcheon Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, John E. Sexton, Jr; a sister, Judy Babb and husband C.L. all of Union; a daughter-in-law, Gail Sexton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sexton was predeceased by a son, Tony Sexton and a sister, Linnie Wells.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 21, 2013 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Trevor Downey. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held 12:00-1:45 PM Monday in the chapel prior to the service.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Knight, age 72, of 113 South 5th St., Lockhart, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Knight was born in Laurens Co., June 27, 1940, a daughter of the late Aileen Farmer Brown and step-daughter of the late R.L. Brown. Mrs. Knight was a homemaker and a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Alisha Deneen Wade and husband Chris of Lockhart; a son: Jamey Waters and wife Allison of Union; a sister: Ruth Belue; a brother: Eddie Farmer both of Union; four grandchildren: Michael Knox, who was reared in the home, Cody Vaughan of Lockhart, Erica Waters and Tony Water of Union; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Scott Parris, Brad Parris, Chris Vaughan, Chris Wilbanks, Michael Knox and Cody Vaughan.

Mrs. Lizzie Leana “Leaner” M. Lawson, 96, of Magnolia Manor of Spartanburg, formerly of Union, SC, widow of Roscoe W. Lawson Sr., passed away at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House Monday afternoon, January, 14, 2013. Mrs. Lawson was born in Union, September 17th, 1916, the daughter of Bart and Dorothy Maness.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Lawson and wife Sherry and Roscoe Lawson and wife Beatrice; a daughter-in-law Mary Alice Leonhardt; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lawson is pre-deceased by her daughter Yvonne Leonhardt and son Edward Leonhardt. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heart. Leaner is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be held graveside at 2pm on Wednesday, January 16, 2012 at the Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Lorraine “Marie” Winant Gusz Grodzki, age 86, formerly of South River, NJ, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2012 at Wallace Thompson Hospital.

Mrs. Grodzki was born in New Brunswick, NJ, July 5, 1926, a daughter of the late Cory and Bessie Artina Lawry Winant. She was a graduate of South River High School and was a retired bank teller. Mrs. Grodzki was a member of Conklin United Methodist Church and was a member of the Rossmor Community Senior Choir. She was first married to the late Charles Gusz.

Surviving are two daughters: Linda Silvers and husband George of Union and Donna Appleby of New Jersey; one son: Gary Gusz and wife Susan of California; nine grandchildren including: Ron Appleby, Jr. and wife Lucia, Randy Silvers, Teri Silvers Lawson and husband Billy and Jennifer Silvers Durham and husband Jerry.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in New Jersey.

Mr. Belue was born in Union, SC., January 30, 1965, a son of Leroy Belue Sr. and Sylvia Caudle Belue. He was a 1983 graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Belue was the Special Projects Manager at the Union Housing Authority.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a brother: David Belue of Greenville; his father and mother-in-law: Dan and Frances Martin; a brother-in-law: Steve Martin and wife Darcy of Newberry; a niece: Libby Luper and husband Chris of Galax, VA; and a nephew: Alex Martin and wife Jane of Newberry.

Mr. Fant Austin, age 67, husband of Mary Lois Brewington Austin of 151 Ben Black Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Mr. Austin was born in Union, July 31, 1945, a son of the late Nim and Arzie Peahuff Austin. He retired after 38 years from Conso Products and continued working for Union Construction Co. with his son. Mr. Austin was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church where he was active in the Claudie Williams Sunday School class. He was first married to the late Jean Adams Austin, loving wife of 42 years, and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Kendall Austin and wife Amy and his grandchildren, Chandler, Taylor and Parker Austin all of Union; two sisters: Gladys Henderson and Minnie Knox; a brother Doug Austin all of Union; a special friend: Mrs. Helen McSwain; numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Pat Cantrell and Mrs. Austin’s children: Lisa Shetley and husband Ronnie, Monica Hines and husband Allen and Joey Blackwell. Mr. Austin was predeceased by three sisters: Elizabeth Lunsford, Sue Wilbanks, and Evelyn Austin; and a brother: Johnny Austin. Mrs. Jeanette Greene Richbourg, age 84 widow of Jack B. Richbourg of 103 Hidden Hill Rd., Union, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013.

Mrs. Richbourg was born in Union, September 22, 1928, a daughter of the late James Baxter Greene, Sr. and Gladys Sorgee Greene. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Winthrop College. Mrs. Richbourg was retired from the Richbourg Furniture and had previously worked for the University of Tennessee (Oak Ridge), Southern Bell, The Gibson Agency and Her Majesty Industries. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Union and was a former member of the Junior Charity League and the Union Co. Arts Council.

Survivors include her daughter: Susan R. Fairey and husband William S. Fairey, Jr. of Sarasota, FL; her granddaughter: Austin Leigh Fairey of Baton Rouge, LA and Sarasota, FL; and her brothers: Donald C. Greene of Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Richbourg was predeceased by two brothers: James B. Greene, Jr. and John W. Greene.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Emory. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Mr. Hubert Dean Greer, age 78, husband of Linda Harmon Greer of 720 Sardis Rd., Union, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at his home after a period of declining health.

Mr. Greer was born in Union, July 19, 1934, a son of the late James and Sallie Edwards Greer. He was a 1952 graduate of Union High School and attended North Greenville College. Mr. Greer was a retired real estate agent- broker and had served Union Co. as a home appraiser. He was an active member of Sardis United Methodist Church where he held several positions within the church over the years and was a former member of the Union Rotary Club, Civitan Club and the BPO Elks. Mr. Greer was a veteran of the US Army having served his country in the late 1950's. He was the last surviving member of eleven children in his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years are numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Butch Dill of Union. Mr. Greer was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Dean Greer.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2012 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Dr. James W. Ivey and Rev. Bob Allen.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Harold Weggie Boulware

Mr. Harold Weggie Boulware, age 78 of 208 Mill Street, Buffalo, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Boulware was born in Union, SC April 12, 1934, a son of the late Charlie Boulware and Lillie Lawson Boulware. He was a faithful member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he was a member of the Harold Lawson Sunday School Class as long as his health permitted. Mr. Boulware was also a member of the Buffalo Redmen Tribe and a member of the CB’ers Channel 12 Flower Club. He also attended the Buffalo Council on Aging.

Surviving are a sister, Eugenia Stinnett of the home; a niece, Candy Bragg and husband Wayne; a great-niece, Jenna Bragg; a great-nephew, Michael Bragg all of Simpsonville and a special caregiver, Elizabeth Jeter.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ray Harold Belue and Rev. Kevin Dalton. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Sara Latham Gallman, age 87, of Columbia, widow of James Olin Gallman, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013.

Mrs. Gallman was born in Lockhart, January 23, 1925 a daughter of the late John David and Ella Mae Jones Latham. She was a retired bookkeeper and an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, NC as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Gallman was a dedicated Christian who influenced many others during her life time.
Surviving are a sister, Laura Lee Dabbs of Lockhart; a brother, Thomas W. Latham of Union; several sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews including her caregivers, Diane Huffman and husband Charles of Columbia; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gallman was pre-deceased by two sisters, Agnes Vanderford and Josie Kirby and three brothers, Melvin “Butchie” Latham, Marion Latham, Billy Dean Latham.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Tidewater Hospice and Rapha Residential Care for their care and concern of Mrs. Gallman during her illness.

Mr. Walter Murray O’Dell age 79, husband of Betty Gilchrist O’Dell of 3056 Gilchrist Rd., Sharon, SC pased away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Carolinas Medical
Center Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

Mr. O’Dell was born in Union, SC June 13, 1933, a son of the late Walter O’Dell and Kate Lackey O’Dell. He was a 1953 graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from the South Carolina National Guard as a Supply Sargent after forty plus years of service. Mr. O’Dell also retired from Springs Industries-Catherine Plant. He was a member of Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church; the Lockhart Masonic Lodge #244 and was Fire Chief for Cross Roads Fire Department. Mr. O’Dell was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife Betty of fifty-nine years are a son, Donald O’Dell wife Peggy of Sharon; two granddaughters: Christy Love Parkins and husband Jared of Jonesville and Michelle Love Newton and husband Trey of Dallas, NC; a grandson, Kevin Brown and wife Tonya of Jonesville; two great-granddaughters: Karly Brown and Emma Newton; a brother, Dean O’Dell and wife Peggy of Union; a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. O’Dell was predeceased by a daughter, Dianne O’Dell Love and a brother, Otis O’Dell.

Mr. Billy Delano McLeod, age 78, husband of Shirley Dabbs McLeod of 3827 Jonesville Lockhart Hwy, Union, passed away suddenly Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. McLeod was born in Great Falls, SC May 20, 1934, a son of the late Malcolm McCloud and Margaret Broom McCloud. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and a retired Veteran of the US Air Force. Mr. McLeod was also retired from Milliken & Co Research Center in Spartanburg and was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Tammy McKnight and husband Jack of Lockhart, Debbie Sanders and husband Tim of Spartanburg and Amy Sanders and husband Jeff of Union; two sons: Scott McLeod and wife Rita of Chapin and Tony McLeod and wife Tonya of Pawleys Island; three sisters: Louise McCutcheon of Lockhart, Nellie Jo Wallace of Chester and Ann Wilson of Waterloo; fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Ivey was born in Spartanburg Co., August 16, 1953, a son of the late Cecil James Ivey and Elsie West Ivey. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Jennifer Welchel and Brandy Melton both of Gaffney and Katherine Henderson of Easley; three sons: Mike Ivey of Nashville, TN, Charlie Ivey and Eric Ivey both of Gaffney; two step-sons: Timothy Atchley and Shane Atchley both of Union; a step-daughter: Racheal Atchley of Spartanburg; two sisters: Bonnie Early and husband Henry and Linda Thompson all of Gaffney; two brothers: Alvin Ivey and wife Claire of Fingerville and Kenneth Ivey of Gaffney. Mr. Ivey was predeceased by a step-son: Gary Atchley and a brother: Jimmy Ivey.

Mr. Harold Dean Jett, age 73, of 1132 Old Bumcombe Road, Union widower of Mary Brady Jett, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Wallace Thompson Hospital.

Mr. Jett was born in Union, SC on November 27, 1939 a son of the late William Milan and Veran Lee Jett. He was a graduate of Union High School and was a member of the Union Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Mr. Jett was the long time manager of Bi-Lo in Union and retired as manager of Homestead Farms in Fletcher, NC.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Smith and husband Michael of Buffalo; a son Robbie Jett and wife Susan “Sissy” of Union; four grandchildren, Heather Wilson and husband David, Phillip Smith and wife Whitney all of Buffalo, Hillary and Madacyn Jett, both of Union; one great-granddaughter Claire Wilson; and one brother, Bill Jett and wife Judy of Taylors.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday January 6, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor Bill Strong and Pastor Kevin Kim. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Ken Cleapor, Ron Millard, Clark Baker, Charles Whitaker, Ralph Smith, and Art Hallock.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Murrell Keith White
Union, S.C.

Mr. Murrell Keith White, age 82, husband of Sara Smith White of 305 Wilson St., Union, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. White was born in Jonesville, October 6, 1930, a son of the late Thomas Clyde White and Eva Caroline Gregory White. He was retired from Milliken and Co., and was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War. Mr. White was a member of Union Masonic Lodge # 75 and was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Sara W. (Beth) Cudd of Union; a son: Michael K. White and wife Linda of Houston, TX; four sisters: Lee Ila Pearson and Patty Hoyle and husband Joe Dean all of Pacolet, Doris White of Jonesville and Marguarite Harvey of Union; two brothers: Thomas C. White and wife Leoma of Spartanburg and Lewis White of Pacolet; three granddaughters: Leah C. Robinson and husband Jesse of Union, Megan Cudd of Greenwood and Lexi Robinson of Union; two step granddaughters: Angie Miller of Houston, TX, and Andrea Self of Lovelace, OH; two step grandsons: Zachery Miller and Joshua Miller of Houston, TX; and a number of nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will be at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Phil Robinson, Dean Robinson, Mickey White, Carol Scoggins, Jeff Sweatt, and Tim Sweatt.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:45 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mary Louise Pettit
Union, SC

Mrs. Mary Louise Plexico Pettit, age 93 widow of David Pettit, Sr., went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Pettit was born in Cherokee County, SC March 14, 1919, a daughter of the late James Plexico and Effie Mae Horne Plexico. She retired from Her Majesty and was a faithful member of Welcome Baptist Church. Mrs. Pettit was very loving and devoted to her family.

Surviving are three daughters: Annette Johnson, Jean Sailors both of Union and Dorothy Rosborough and husband John of Columbus, NC; two sons: David Pettit, Jr and wife Avanelle and James Pettit and wife Joyce all of Union; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Pettit was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Burgess and Azalee Jefferies; a brother, Woodrow Plexico and a granddaughter, Rhonda Pettit Littlejohn.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis, Rev. Tony Pettit and Rev Brian Childers. Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Pettit, Andy Pettit, Michael Pettit, Chris Rosborough, Clay Moore and John Cribbs. The staff of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and the staff of Medi-Home Hospice are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Friday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Tiny Inman
Gaffney, SC

Mr. Tiny Inman, age 69, of Sharon Dr., Gaffney, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Mr. Inman was born in Kelton, April 29, 1943 a son of the late Clyde and Mary Knox Inman. He was a self employed farmer.

Surviving are two sisters: Betty Bass of Georgia and Mary Wynn of Greenwood; four brothers: Charlie Inman of Henderson, NC, Willie Inman of Orangeburg, Henry Inman of Pacolet and Ray Inman; three special sons: Victor Bradburn, Chris Bradburn and James Dean; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Inman was predeceased by three brothers and 10 sisters.

A memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the home of his brother, Charlie Inman, 275 Barker Rd., Henderson, NC 27537.
