Margaret C. Gault
Jonesville, S.C.

Mrs. Margaret Coleman Gault, age 92, widow of Leo David Gault of 119 Hames Ave., Jonesville, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

Mrs. Gault was born in Philadelphia, PA, March 17, 1921, a daughter of the late Melvin William Coleman and Margaret Ann Gorman Coleman. Mrs. Gault was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Robinson’s Business College. She was crowned as the first Miss Jonesville. She and her husband, Leo, were owners and operators of Gault’s Grocery for 20 years and also owners of Gault’s Side Door Antique Shop.

Mrs. Gault was an active member of Jonesville United Methodist Church, where she served as teacher of the Ladies Sunday School Class and was the church historian. She also was active in civic and community causes, having been inspirational in the building of the Park and Swim Center located on Park Drive in Jonesville, active in the Donald Russell Campaign and was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #79. Mrs Gault also was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Ladies Book Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Ann Moss and husband Ray of Jonesville, and Kathryn Dickinson and husband Mark of Chester; one son, David Gault and wife Beth of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Angela Williams, Donna Donnelly, David Dickinson, Matthew Dickinson, Ashley Dickinson, and Elizabeth Gault; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel and Regina Williams and Bret Donnelly. Mrs. Gault was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Gault.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Jonesville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. James Ivey. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Union.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

The family will be at the home, 119 Hames Ave., Jonesville.

June Sweezy Elders
Union, SC

Mrs. June Sweezy Elders, age 66, wife of Jack Elders of 4218 Cross Keys Hwy, Union, SC passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Elders was born in Union, SC August 7, 1946, a daughter of the late H. Leonard Sweezy and Pauline Martin Sweezy. She was a graduate of Union High School and Mary Black School of Nursing. Mrs. Elders was a retired Registered Nurse after thirty years of service.

She was a member of New Horizon Free Will Baptist Church in Laurens.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughter and son: Kelly Smith and husband Jeff and Jeff Cannon and wife Emily all of Union; her step-children: Jackie Williams and husband Steve of Ora, SC, Janice Weston of Cross Hill, Patricia Elders of Cross Keys, Debra Smith of Clinton and Steve Elders and wife Sherly of Ora; two brothers: Edward Sweezy and Richard Sweezy both of Union; six grandchildren: Alex, Cole and Morgan Heatherly, Rhett, Peyton and Olivia Cannon; eight step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two aunts: Elizabeth Revels and Christine Knox both of Union. Mrs. Elders was predeceased by a sister, Linda West.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 29, 2013 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ralph Byars. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Nurses and staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Billy Ray “Bill” Tate
Union, SC

Mr. Billy Ray “Bill” Tate, age 86, husband of Melba Runyans Tate of 108 Chelsea Court, Union passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Tate was born in Shelby, NC January 25, 1927, a son of the late Boyd Tate and Cora Tarleton Tate. He was a graduate of Shelby High School and a retired furniture retailer. Mr. Tate was a member of the First Baptist Church for fifty-five years where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon and a member of the Brotherhood. Mr. Tate was also a member of the Union Jaycee’s where he served as former President. He was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Janice “Jan” Thompson and husband Ralph of Union; a son, William Bradford “Brad” Tate of Union; a sister, Jewel Bencomo of Sunrise, FL; two grandchildren: Joshua Tate Thompson and wife Beth and their son, Caleb of Spartanburg and Elizabeth L. “Betsy” Thompson of Union and two nieces and a nephew. Mr. Tate was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Dean Tate.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Rick Pendleton. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Active Pallbearers will be Carl Colson, Doug Lawing, John Brown, Thad Strom, Col. John Odell and Paul Davis. The following are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers: W.C. Bennett, Bobby Brown, Jimmy Sherbert and Larry Wilson.

Visitation will be held in the church one hour prior to the service.

Jimmie Marvin Pratt
Union, SC

Mr. Jimmie Marvin Pratt, age 45, of 1300 S. Pinckney Street, Apt. 102, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Mr. Pratt was born in Orangeburg, SC on February 26, 1968, a son of the late Jimmie Rogers and April Dianne Trammell Pratt.

Surviving are two sons, J.C. and Donavan Pratt both of Union; a sister, Julie Weatherford and husband Ernest of Pinopolis, SC; a brother, Rocky Pratt of Holly Hill, SC; a niece Chasity Weatherford and a nephew Ernest Weatherford, Jr. both of Pinopolis, SC; and a niece Dianne Pratt of Holly Hill, SC.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert Branch. Visitation will immediately follow the services.

The family will be at their respective homes.


Keith Allen “Unc” Conklin
Pacolet Mills, SC

Mr. Keith Allen “Unc” Conklin, age 55, husband of Tracey Poteat Conklin of 268 Walker Street, Pacolet Mills, SC, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Conklin was born in New Jersey April 19, 1957, a son of the late James Roy Conklin and Mary Louise Smith Conklin.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Liz Conklin and Cheyanne White both of the home; four sons: Eric Lazurick of Cowpens, Michael Conklin of MA, Jesse Raines of Cowpens and Jakob Raines of the home; two brothers: Jimmy Conklin of Clifton and Clifford Carter of Cowpens and four grandchildren. Mr. Conklin was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine and Goldie and two brothers, Eddie and P.J.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family is at the home, 268 Walker Street, Pacolet Mills, SC 29373.


Fayte Suttles
Union, S.C.

Mr. Fayte Suttles, age 84, widower of Earline Henderson Suttles, of 2709 Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the home of his daughter.

Mr. Suttles was born in Cherokee County, November 7, 1928, a son of the late Andrew Suttles and Maggie Thompson Suttles. He was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church and a member of Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are a daughter: Beverly Suttles of Pacolet; three sons: Gene Suttles and wife Yvonne of Cross Hill, Randy Suttles and wife Barbara of Chesnee and Dennis Suttles and wife Kathy Gurin of Camp Croft; two sisters: Elsie Wright of Cowpens and Leonna Henderson of Clifton; sixteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren. Mr. Suttles was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Lee. Burial will follow in the Brown’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM, Monday, March 25, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Doris Lee Warren Whitlock
Summerville, SC

Ms. Doris Lee Warren Whitlock, age 81 of 300 Springview Lane, Summerville, SC passed away Wednesday March 20, 2013 at the Medical University of S.C. in Charleston after a brief illness.

Ms. Whitlock was born in Lockhart April 15, 1931, a daughter of the late Edward Grier “Slim” Warren and Lelia Carver Warren. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and was a retired Federal Employee. Ms. Whitlock was currently employed as monitor at Oakbrook Towers Retirement Center in Summerville where she served as president of the Activities Committee. She was a member of Lockhart Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 76 where she previously served as Post Commander. Ms. Whitlock served as a coach at Union Academy and had also coached the Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys Baseball Team. She was a Veteran of the US Air Force having served in the Korean War.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Thomason and husband Roger of Lockhart; a son, Nick Whitlock and wife Sandy of Summerville; two sisters: Betty W. Pharr and husband Harold of Conway and Carol W. Mitchell of Union; three grandchildren: Michelle Cooper and husband Clint of Lockhart, Roger Dale Thomason and wife Nicole of McConnells and Wyatt N. Whitlock of Summerville; eight great-grandchildren: Kaitlin Thomason, Bailey Thomason, Samatha Thomason, Jacob Thomason, Isabella Thomason, Jada Thomason, Zoe Cooper and Maddy Cooper and her extended family: Rae Kelley, Danielle Kelley, Brooke Kelley, Trevor Robinson all of Union, Taylor Cooper of Gaffney, Jennifer Thomason and Connie Porter both of Lockhart. Ms. Whitlock was predeceased by a sister, Sybil Holcombe and a brother, Donald “Judo” Warren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 24, 2013 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Dean Mandrell, Rev. Bob Warmoth and Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Robbie McGee, Dale Inman, Billy Owens, Wayne LeMatty and Brooks Ruple. The following are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers: Henry Sparrow, Kathryn Eaves, Doug Howard, Ronn Warren, Wayne and Janice Hutcherson, Nadine Smith and Debbie Eaves.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mitzi Michelle Rollins McKelvey
Buffalo, SC

Mrs. Mitzi Michelle Rollins McKelvey, age 40, wife of 22 years of James Richard McKelvey, of 128 Buffalo Street, Buffalo, passed away at her home, Wednesday, March 20, 2013.

Mrs. McKelvey was born February 25, 1973 a daughter of Brenda Ann Knox Rollins and the late Arthur Hardy “Jr.” Rollins, Jr. She was a loving and caring person who never met a stranger. She leaves behind her loving companion “GiGi” who went everywhere with her. Mrs. McKelvey was a faithful daughter who took great care of her mother who had fallen on hard times. She was a devoted mother who loved her daughter more than life itself.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter, Tommy Michelle McKelvey of Union; a brother Chad Arthur Rollins and wife Wanda of Union and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mrs. McKelvey was predeceased by a daughter, Jamie Angel McKelvey.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Greater Union Church, conducted by Rev. Roger Estes. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Wesley Pruitt, Mitchell McKelvey, Coty Williams, Ryan McKelvey, Joshua Pruitt, and Dusty Stephens.

Ollie C. Scaife
Formerly Of Cartersville, GA

Mrs. Ollie Coker Scaife, age 87, widow of William R. “Bill” Scaife, formerly of Old Allatoona Rd., Cartersville, GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at The Hospice House of Laurens Co., Clinton.

Mrs. Scaife was born in Columbia, September 8, 1925, a daughter of the late S. Ollie Coker and Isabelle Gibbons Coker. She retired in 1993 after 25 yeas with Deloitte &Touche Company, one of the largest consulting firms in the U.S. Mrs. Scaife was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for more than 60 years and was a member of Main Street Methodist Church in Columbia.

Surviving are a daughter: Robin Lee Inman and a son: David O. Lee both of Union; two step-daughters: Rita Slagle (Greg) of Powder Springs, GA, and Sue Simmons (Rick) of Ruston, LA; three grandchildren: Lauren Inman Vassey and Lindsey Elizabeth Inman both of Union and Hannah Lee of Columbia; one niece: Vauda Janice Yarborough (Charles) of Columbia; one nephew: Joseph Warren Bird, Jr. (Paullette) of Las Vegas, NV; five step-grandchildren: Jennifer Carlan (Paul) of Smyrna, GA, Tad Scaife Wilson of Powder Springs, GA, Melissa Duda (Clay) of Atlanta, GA, Courtenay Simmons and Cord Simmons of Ruston, LA; two great-grandchildren: Hunter Ryan Vassey of Union and Jayci Claire Bates of Columbia; two step great-grandsons: Vincent Carlan of Smyrna, GA, and T.J. Wilson of Powder Springs, GA. Mrs. Scaife was predeceased by a son: William D. “Billy” Lee, III, a sister: Vauda Coker Bird, and a sister-in-law: Betty Lee Fielder, who remained a life-long friend.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 25, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Robert Branch. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the services.

Ferol Kelly Robinson
Flagler Beach, FL

Mrs. Ferol Kelly Robinson, 84, widow of Wallace Earl Robinson, a former Union native passed away peacefully at her home in Florida Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

Mrs. Robinson was born on July 17, 1928 in Union County a daughter of the late Barth J. and Beatrice Faucett Kelly . She graduated from Lander College and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Converse College . During her 37 year teaching career, 17 were spent at Union High School then moving to Florida in 1973, she taught for 13 years at Seabreeze High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flagler Beach.

Mrs. Robinson was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include several nieces and nephews and her loving companions, Laddie and Princess Peaches.
She was predeceased by five sisters: Mattie Kelly, Margaret Whitaker, Josie Ford, Frances Taylor and Faye Penland, and predeceased by one brother: Barth J. “Bud” Kelly, Jr.

Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 25, 2013 at the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dr. James Ivey. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 787, Jonesville, SC 29353.

Linda S. Treadway
Union, S.C.

Mrs. Linda Sanford Treadway, age 64, wife of Jerry Ray Treadway, Jr. of 510 Wilson St., Union, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Treadway was born in Union, May 11, 1948, a daughter of the late Amos and Geneal Lawson Sanford. She was a graduate of Union High School and a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church. Mrs. Treadway had previously worked for Conso Products, United Merchant, Buffalo Plant and Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Stacie Briggs and husband John, and Leann Davis and husband Bobby; two sons: Ray Treadway and wife Kimberly and Brian Treadway; a sister: Stella Ann Maness and husband Jimmy; and 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Treadway was predeceased by a daughter: Kristy Lynn Treadway.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Kevin Dalton and Mr. Jimmy Maness.

Active pallbearers will be Daniel Nix, Matthew Nix, Doug Dochterman, Brannon Treadway, Bobby Davis and John Briggs.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Patricia C. Berry
Union, S.C.

Ms. Patricia Cooksey “Patti” Berry, age 45 of 110 Bates Ave., Ext. Union, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.

Ms. Berry was born in Union, August 10, 1967, a daughter of Fred W. Cooksey and Judy Shetley Cooksey of the home. Pattie was an employee with Walker’s Bantam Chef for over 20 years and was a member of Ottarary Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her fiancee: Jimmy Edwards of Union; a daughter: Mindy Nicole Berry and her fiancee Michael Fleming of Union; a son: Michael Berry and wife Tara of Spartanburg; a sister: Karen Kitchens of Union; two nieces: Paige Harvey and husband Jared and Casey Kitchens.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, March 18, 2013 at Ottarary Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Branch. Employees of Walker’s Bantam Chef are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Harold F. Lawson
Union, S.C.

Mr. Harold Floyd Lawson, age 81, formerly of Fairview Church Circle, Union, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 14, 2013 at NHC Laurens.

Mr. Lawson was born in Buffalo, July 31, 1931, a son of the late Floyd and Lola Brooks Lawson. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Junior College. He formerly worked for Union Merchants, Buffalo Plant and for Milliken and Co., Excelsior Plant.

Mr. Lawson retired from BMC Music, Columbia House. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army. Mr. Lawson was a loving, giving and kind brother and uncle who always took care of his family. He had a quiet and humble spirit and loved to attend his church, Buffalo Baptist.

Surviving are a sister: Polly Smith and husband Wayne of Union; a brother: Charles Lawson and wife Sylvia of Inman; a brother-in-law: Charles Malpass of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lawson was predeceased by a sister, Bebe Malpass and a brother, Danny Lawson.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Tim Anderson. Active pallbearers will be Mr. Lawson’s nephews.

Members of the Harold Lawson Sunday School Class at Buffalo Baptist Church and James Hearn are asked to served as the honorary escort.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.

Carolyn Baker Bailey

Mrs. Carolyn Baker Bailey, age 69, wife of Charles Bailey of 410 Lakeview Heights, Union, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Union, SC May 8, 1943, a daughter of the late Coleman Baker and Flossie Cook Baker. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Cone Mill - Carlisle Finishing. She had previously worked at Union Dry Cleaners and was also a Certified Nurses Assistant. Mrs. Bailey was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons: Ricky Bailey, Danny Bailey and wife Lisa all of Union and Chris Bailey and wife Tina of San Diego, CA; three sisters: Mary Jo Moore, Nancy Baker and Barbara Pridemore all of Union; a brother, Ralph Baker of Union and six grandchildren. Mrs. Bailey was predeceased by a brother, Carl Baker.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Hebron Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Childers and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Benny Shelton, Rusty Robinson, Donnie Hendrick, Russell Gibson, Harold Lancaster, Brian Turner, Tommy Turner and Daniel Bailey.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Thursday in the church prior to the services.

Hazel “Tootsie” Porter Horne
Union, SC

Mrs. Hazel “Tootsie” Porter Horne, age 73, of 124 Catawba Hill Drive, widow of John William “J.W.” Horne, a very special mother went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 11, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Horne was born in Union, SC on November 11, 1939 a daughter of the late William Porter and Josie Belk Porter Fowler. She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Pamela H. McDonald and husband Jerry of Union; a son, Donald Ray Horne and wife Debra of Jonesville; two granddaughters, Rebecca Horne and Rachel Brewington and husband Michael; a very special person, Pat Harmon of Jonesville; two sisters, Nancy Clayton and husband Bobby and Betty Dabbs all of Jonesville. Mrs. Horne was predeceased by a brother Bud Porter.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Porter Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown and Rev. Alan West. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Pamela and Jerry McDonald, 2512 Jonesville Lockhart Highway, Union and they would like to extend to a special thank you to Heartland Hospice.

Ms. Tammy Elizabeth Hewitt, age 52, of 296 Meansville Rd., Union, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at her home.

Ms. Hewitt was born in Union, November 23, 1960, a daughter of the late Frank Hewitt and Betty DeHart Hewitt Vaughan. She was a 1979 graduate of Union High School and was retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant. Ms. Hewitt had formerly worked for Paradise Home Center and Ace Hardware. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter: Megan Hill Garner and husband James of Union; a sister: Katrina Hewitt of the home; a grandson: Riley Garner; her special “Mother” Janie Clowney; a special friend; Gene Rector, both of Union; her special pet dog, “Little Man” and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ms. Hewitt was predeceased by a brother, Frank Hewitt, Jr., her best friend, Becky Kelly Brown and her grandparents.

A celebration of life service will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Brittany Manor Apartments.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Megan and James Garner, 180 Garner Rd., Union.


Allie D. Knox

Mrs. Allie Davis Knox, age 88, widow of Clifford E. Knox formerly of 240 Bombing Range Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Knox was born in Hillsborough, NC, March 1, 1925, a daughter of the late William Franklin Davis and Luna Perry Davis. She was retired from Milliken and Co., Midway Plant and was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU.

Surviving are two daughters: Judy Hogan of Union and Barbara Nordan of Hillsborough, NC; four sons: Charles Nordan and wife Nancy Rosebaugh of Hillsborough, NC, Jim Nordan and wife Pat of Johnson City, TN, Larry Knox of Clanton, AL and John Knox and wife Mary of Union; two sisters: Lillian Carroll of Hillsborough, NC and Lilly Mae Johnson of Martinsville, VA; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, March 11, 2013 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Knox, John Wyatt, Mike Hogan, Jason Guerrieri, Jason Knox and Tanner Wyatt.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Arthur Z. “Tack” Henderson, age 78, of Union passed away, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Oakmont Nursing Home.

Mr. Henderson was born in Union, April 7, 1934, a son of the late George L. Henderson and Ruby Wix Henderson. He was a retired residential paint contractor and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three daughters: Donna Gooch of Greenville, Terri Howze of Mt. Pleasant and Lori Crocker of Greenwood; a son: Mitchell Horton of Union; a sister: Lillian Price of Union; three brothers: Reese Henderson and Jesse Lee Henderson both of Union and Latty Wayne Henderson of Gaffney; 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Henderson was predeceased by a son: George Leonard Henderson and two brothers: William Boyce Henderson and Robert Matthew Henderson.

A memorial services will be scheduled for a later date.

Mrs. Leverne Whisnant Willard, age 85 of 141 Willard Rd., Union, widow of Hazel Willard, joined her loved ones in heaven on Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

Mrs. Willard was born in Union, SC June 23, 1927, a daughter of the late William Whisnant and Rhoda Sealey Whisnant. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters: Lennis Lawson and husband Johnny, Eugenia “ Jeanne” Gregory and husband Keith, Donna Owings and husband Robin; a brother, Phillip Whisnant all of Union; eight grandchildren: Michael Lawson, Mark Lawson, Eric Lawson, Jennifer Cato, Brian Gregory, Jonathan Gregory, Karen Gregory and Robert Owings; six great-grandchildren: Brandon Lawson, Erica Lawson, Michael Robinson, Cayla Gregory, Hannah Gregory and Peyton Gregory and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Willard was predeceased by her step-mother, Mae Orr Whisnant.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Lewis. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Willard’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Friday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Erby G. Mabry, Jr., age 86, husband of Evelyn Foster Mabry, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Windsor House in Spartanburg.

Mr. Mabry was born in Union, July 8, 1926, a son of the late Erby G. and Nellie Harvey Mabry. He was retired from the Union County Public Works Department and was previously employed with Milliken Company, Monarch Plant. Mr. Mabry was a member of Salem Baptist Church since 1952 and was a member of the John A. Fant Masonic Lodge.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Bill Mabry of Union; a sister, Lucille M. Palmer of Roanoke, VA; a brother, Clyde Ray Mabry of Slaughter, LA; three grandchildren, Cathy Freeman and Rev. Josh Freeman of Union and Karen Mabry of Las Cruces, NM; two great granddaughters, Abbey Freeman and Aryn Freeman; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Samuel E. Mabry and John Lewis Mabry.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke and Rev. Jerry Ford. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the chapel prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Crocker, Tim Palmer, Kenny Proctor, Evans Crocker, Ellis Jenkins and Rev. Josh Freeman. Mr. Malcolm Gregory and the staff and nurses of the Windsor House are asked to sit in a group. Frank Lee “Buddy” Roberts

Mr. Frank Lee “Buddy” Roberts, age 78, husband of Virginia Burgess of 525 Littlejohn Rd., Jonesville SC passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medial Center.

Mr. Roberts was born in Lockhart, SC February 2, 1935, a son of the late Lee Roberts and Lois Wiggins Roberts. He retired from Sanders Brothers and was a Veteran of the US Marines having served in the Korean War.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Cynthia Smith and husband Jimmy; a son, Ricky Roberts all of Jonesville; a step-daughter, Angela Jones of Buffalo; a step-son, Troy Burgess of Jonesville; a sister, Brenda Moore of Liberty; three brothers: Emry Roberts of Lockhart, Roy Roberts of Lancaster and Bill Roberts of Woodruff; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Roberts was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Roberts and a daughter-in-law, Scarlett Roberts.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted b Rev. Roger Byrd.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Vanderford, Troy Burgess, Lewis Moss, Jeff Roberts , Roy Lee Moore and Danny Jones. The following are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Tommy Fowler, Ernest Millwood and Jimmy Smith.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Friday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Mrs. Annette Trakas Ward, age 81, wife of John L. “Pye” Ward of 1578 Santuck-Carlisle Hwy., Union, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Ward was born in Woodruff, May 9, 1931, a daughter of the late Pete and Virgie Coleman Trakas. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Conso Products. Mrs. Ward was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons: John Ward and wife Tonie of Union and Timothy Lynn Ward and wife Elizabeth of Myrtle Beach; two sisters: Betty Duncan and Vera Copeland and husband Maxie all of Buffalo; two grandsons: Mitchell Ward and Nicholas Ward both of Union and a granddaughter: Meredith Ward of Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Ward was predeceased by four brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, March 8, 2013 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Lewis. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Dan Arnold, Robin Arnold, Ronnie Carter, Mitchell Ward, Nicholas Ward and Billy West.

Ruth J. Hamilton
Anniston, AL

A memorial graveside service for Mrs. Ruth J. Hamilton, formerly of Union, will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hamilton passed away February 19, 2013 at her home in Anniston, AL. She was born in Dyer, TN, a daughter of the late Virgie and Burman James. Mrs. Hamilton was an Elder and longtime active member of First Presbyterian Church of Anniston, where she was chair of the Congregational Care Committee and a member of the Women’s Circle. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels and volunteered for the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Hamilton loved her roses and enjoyed gardening in general.

Mrs. Hamilton was a loving wife and mother and was a very outgoing and nurturing person. Some of her happiest times were spent traveling and being with her church family and her dear friends.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Thomas Charles Hamilton; daughter: Nancy Hamilton Wilburn; son: Jerry Thomas Hamilton and wife Judy; sister: Susie Wright; brothers: Grant James and Ed James; grandchildren: Anna Gray and husband Andrew, Carrie Hamilton and David Wilburn along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hamilton was predeceased by a granddaughter: Nancy Leigh Wilburn; sister: Evelyn Faye James and brothers: Tom and Harold James.

Gladys "Doodle" Nance Sims
Union, SC

Mrs. Gladys "Doodle" Nance Sims, age 89, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Oakmont Nursing Home. Mrs. Sims, was born January 21, 1924, a daughter of the late Robert and Fannie Goforth Nance in Adamsburg, SC. She is survived by her son, Barry R Sims (Dori) of Tampa, FL, nieces Faye Murphy Lustig (Chuck), Marcia Nance Wilson (Jack), nephew Mike Nance (Donna). Two sisters-in-law, Nannie Lou Nance, and Hazel Nance.

She is predeceased by her brothers: Curt Nance, Robert "Buck" Nance, AG "Red" Nance, and Ray Nance. Sisters: Aleen Murphy, Marian "Mac" Hawkins, and Blanche "Bun" Johns.

She graduated from Union High School, class of 1942. She was employed by Community Cash grocery store for 13 years. She retired from the City of Union utility department after 30 years of service. She was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Union. Doodle, as she preferred to be called, had only three hobbies; baking, thrift shopping, and giving to others what she cooked or bought.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday March 5, 2013 at the First Baptist Church Chapel conducted by the Rev. Rick Pendleton. Friends will be received 12:45 until 1:45 PM prior to the service, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be Jack Wilson, Chuck Lustig, Mike Nance, Kyle Nance, David Hart, Rollin Tillie, Thad Strom and Bobby Vaughan.

The family is at the home of her niece, Marcia and Jack Wilson, 489 Royal Oak Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
