A.J. Shetley, Jr.

Mr. A.J. Shetley, Jr., age 87, of 210 Shetley Rd., Union, widower of Peggy Liner Shetley, passed away Tuesday August 30, 2022 at his home.

Mr. Shetley was born in Del Rio, TN, May 29, 1935, a son of the late A.J. Shetley, Sr. and Maude Rowland Shetley. He was a graduate of Union High School attended Cecil's Business College. He retired from the SC Department of Corrections and had worked in textiles and at the recycling center. Mr. Shetley was a veteran of the US Navy having served in the Koren War. He attended Morningside Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Crystal Robinson and husband Dale, and Tammy Kelley and husband Patrick all of Union; a brother, David "Karo" Shetley and wife Patsy of Union; two grandchildren, Leslie Thompson and husband Matt and Lindsey Switzer all of Spartanburg; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Thompson, Marly Switzer and Harper Switzer; step-grandchildren, Byran Robinson, Brett Robinson, Katy Beth Seaburg, and Morgan Knox and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five sisters, Beulah Paige, Beatrice Haney, Aona Shetley, Lois Franklin and Bertie Chapel and four brothers, Ray, Willie, Carter and Leo Shetley.

The family wishes to say a special Thank You to the staff and nurses of Spartanburg Regional Hospice and the third floor nurses and aides at Union Medical Center for their care of Mr. Shetley during his illness.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, September 2, 2022 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Andrew Austin and Rev. Anthony Shetley.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Active pallbearers will be David Shetley, Billy Shetley, Nick Shetley, Devin Black, Heath Haney, Dalton Sinclair, Matt Thompson and Hayden Thompson.
