Mr. Akin Franklin Bentley, age 83, husband of Pat Burgess Bentley of 60 years, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Bentley was born in Lockhart, August 24, 1941, a son of the late Alfard F. and Lorine Horne Bentley. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from the US Army having served 34 and a half years. Mr. Bentley was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Janet Crocker and husband Jimmy of Union; two sons, Mark F. Bentley and wife Stephanie of Pauline and Michael Paul Bentley of Chester and two sisters, Bobbie Varnadore and Gennelle Todd. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jana Crocker Moore and husband Clay, Jayla Crocker Gault and husband Adam, and Drew Bentley and great-grandchildren, Jayleigh Moore, Jordyn Moore and Cameron Gault. He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Bentley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Scott. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be Pat Floyd, Terry Trammel, Adam Gault, Clay Moore, Terry Bentley, Sammy Smith, Hampton Hager and Russ Bentley.

Mr. Alvin Justus is asked to serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Memorials may be made to Philippi Baptist Church, 327 Philippi Church Rd., Union, SC 29379 or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29303.

The family will be at the home, 3081 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379.
