April 29, 2016 Mr. Albert G. "Dick" Kitchens, Jr. age 80, loving and devoted husband of Barbara Belk Kitchens for 62 years, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at his home. Mr. Kitchens was born in Lockhart, August 14, 1935, a son of the late Albert G. Kitchens, Sr., and Flora Mae Hawkins Kitchens. He retired from the Maintenance Department of Wallace Thomson Hospital following twenty years of service. Mr. Kitchens was a retired Senior Master Sgt. with the US Air Force having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where he was a member of the Tom Alexander Sunday School Class. Mr. Kitchens was an avid golfer who passed his love of golf to many young golfers and he also loved fishing. Surviving in addition to his wife are numerous nieces and nephews; three special great-nieces and great-nephews, Benson Fleming, Karson Fleming and Kellan Seaver. Mr. Kitchens was predeceased by a son, Joey Kitchens and a brother, Earl "Sonny" Kitchens. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff and nurses of DCI-Union, Ambu-Star, EMS, Blue Ridge Hospice and to the special caregivers, Robin, Lindsey, Kathy, Toni and Chaplain Jeff Dean for their care and concern of Mr. Kitchen during his illness. Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Burial with Full Military Honors will be at Union Memorial Gardens. The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort: Alvin Robinson, Terry English, Sam Roberts, Dick Stalnaker, Ed Heatherly, Jim Crocker, Don Hines, Joe Haney, Jan Gunter, Matthew Goodfellow, Greg Krasinski, Lib Williford, Mary Ellen Gregory, Donna Roberts, Carol Bailey, members of the Tom Alexander Sunday School Class, the staff of Blue Ridge Hospice, the staff of DCI-Union, Ambu-Star and EMS. Visitation will be held 1:30-3:00 PM Sunday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Mon Aetna Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 1431 Lockhart Hwy, Union, SC 29379 or to a church of one's choice. The family is at the home, 233 Woodhaven Drive, Union.
