Alice G. Barnett

Mrs. Alice Gist Barnett, age 96, widow of Lonnie Boyd Barnett, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Mrs. Barnett was born n Union, July 20, 1917, a daughter of the late David C. Gist and Claudia Wylie Gist. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was a lifetime member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Kay Barnett Dukes and husband Bill of Greenwood, Ruth Ann Barnett Adams of Union, and Robin Barnett Stalnaker and husband Joe also of Greenwood; a sister, Mary Voiselle of Union; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Gist and wife Helen of Union and John D. Gist and wife Ginny of Silver Spring, MD; seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barnett was predeceased by a son, David Barnett, a sister, Willie Neal Vinson, and a brother, James Gist. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Friday, January 17, 2014 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Greg Barefoot. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Barnett's grandsons and nephews will serve as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 AM Friday at the chapel prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Mon Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at their respective homes.
