January 26, 2017 Mrs. Alice Hyatt Sanders, age 95, of 317 Brookside Dr., Union, widow of Jack B. Sanders, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Sanders was born September 24, 1921 a daughter of the late Lonnie Hyatt and Ola West Hyatt. She was a graduate of West Springs High School and Spartanburg Beauty School. Mrs. Sanders began her career in cosmetology in Spartanburg and Monarch, then she owned and operated Alice's Beauty Shop in Kelton from 1947 - 1974. An active member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church, she had served as a Sunday School Teacher for the 1st and 2nd grade class, taught the Training Union, was a Vacation Bible School Volunteer, and served on various other church committees. Mrs. Sanders had served as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Wallace Thomson Hospital. Surviving are one daughter, Jacquelyn Sanders "Jackie" Petty and Gerald Moore of Union; one son, Don M. Sanders and Julie of Columbia; four grandchildren, Melanie Lawson of Union, Allyson P. Wentz of Union, Kip Petty and Tracy of Jonesville, and DeCóle Gallman and Jamie of Jonesville; ten great-grandchildren, Dustin Blanton and Stefanie, Amber W. Manus and Wesley, Candice W. Grady and Dusty, Daniel Blanton, Jack Wentz and Ashley, Macy Petty, Rachel Gallman, Eliza Petty, Jeb Gallman and Jace Gallman; six great-great-grandchildren, Kascie, Kenny, Brady, Hagen, Will, and Braeden; one sister-in-law, Fannie Ruth Hyatt of West Springs; a special friend and caregiver Linda Johnson of Union; and a beloved dog, Tiger. She was predeceased by one sister, Jaynell Stevens; two brothers, Joe Wilson Hyatt and Sidney Hyatt; and a special cousin and sister-in-law, Birdette Bogan Sanders. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Alan West. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Sanders, Billy Sanders, Ray Sanders, Brad Stevens, Robert Edens, Roger Hyatt, Ben Hyatt, Wesley Lane, Jamy Cunningham and Tim Stevens. Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church. The family wishes to extend a special "Thank You" to Medi Home Hospice and her nurses, Kandice McSwain and Stefanie Blanton of Medi Home Hospice for their years of care, comfort, and love.
