Alvin L. “Doc” Young

Mr. Alvin L. "Doc" Young, age 76, husband of Myrtis Vanderford Young of 118 S. 2nd St., Lockhart, passed away Thursday December 22, 2016 at his home. Mr. Young was born in Chester, on May 19, 1940 a son of the late Sam and Bertha Gaston Young. He was a graduate of Chester High School and retired from Milliken & Co.-Lockhart Plant after 30 years. Mr. Young was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from the S.C. National Guard, Lockhart Unit. He attended Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Young was a 40 year Mason and a member of Lockhart Lodge No. 244. He was a loving and devoted father and husband who always showed compassion and love to others. Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years are a daughter, "Rhonda Boo" Gibson and husband Johnny of Lockhart; one brother, Robert Young of Chester; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Charles Young. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Sam Baines, Rev. Bill Vanderford, and Rev. Paul Childers. Burial with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow at Lockhart Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gus Poulos, Pete Poulos, Lonnie Melton, Dennis Horne, Marvin Ashe, and Tommy Denton. The following are asked to sit in a group Gary Deal, Sam Clayton, Gene Holcombe, Tommy Sinclair, James Shrader, Johnny Belue, and the Staff and Nurses of Hospice Care of South Carolina. Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. The family wishes to extend a special "Thank you" to Dr. Robert Wentz, the Gibbs Cancer Center staff and the staff and nurses of Hospice Care of South Carolina for their care and concern of Mr. Young during his illness. Memorials may be made to Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church, 126 Askew Circle, Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of his daughter, Rhonda and Johnny Gibson, 5019 Jonesville Lockhart Highway, Lockhart.
