Alvin Theodore Gillian

Mr. Alvin Theodore Gillian, age 73, widower of Lois Brewington Gillian, formerly of Buffalo, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Mr. Gillian was born in Union, SC October 26, 1943, a son of the late James Henry Gillian, Sr and Bonnie Lovelace Gillian. He retired from Cone Mill and was a Veteran of the S.C. National Guard following forty-one years of service. Mr. Gillian was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, Duncan Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, ASA Umpire and also a member of the American Legion Post #87. Surviving are two daughters: Cindy Shetley and husband Dennis of Union and Lisa Donnahoo and husband Dennis of Chesnee; a grandson, Landon Donnahoo of Chesnee; three sisters: Shirley Michaud and husband Gerald of Norfolk, NY, Deloris Lowe and husband John and Brenda Ballard and husband Wayne all of Union; a brother, J.H. Gillan, Jr and wife Marie of Ninety Six, SC; a special nephew, Jamie Gillian and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Gillian was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Manley and a brother, Calvin Gillian. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Lynn Ford. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Buffalo Fire Department, members of the S.C. National Guard Union Unit, members of the ASA Umpires, and members of the American Legion Post #87. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Heartland of Union, Brookview of Gaffney, and Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, P.O. Box 428, Buffalo, SC 29321. The family is at the home of his daughter, Cindy and Dennis Shetley, 137 Velda Drive, Union, SC.
