Angus Wilkins Garner

Mr. Angus Wilkins"Red" Garner, age 100, widower of Isma Catherine Horne Garner, formerly of Jonesville, passsed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Mr. Garner was born in Whitney Community of Spartanburg County, SC January 20, 1914, a son of the late Banks Wilkins Garner and Lillie Mae Foster Garner. He retired from the Town of Jonesville Utility Department and had previously worked as a police officer. Mr. Garner was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church and also the American Legion in Jonesville. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Jean G. Long of Union; a son, Tommy A. Garner of Newberry; three grandchildren: Jennifer Belue, Paul Frost and Mack Garner; ten great-grandchildren;a great-great-grandchild; a niece, Carolyn Simpson of Simpsonville and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Garner's great-grandsons and friends of the family will serve as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Jonesville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 279, Jonesville, SC 29353. The family is at the home of his daughter, Betty Jean Long, 837 Lovers Lane Rd., Union.
