October 20, 2018 Anne Rivers Brooks, 87, of Simpsonville, SC went to be with her Savior on Friday, October 19, 2018. Born in Montgomery, AL, she was the daughter of the late John Murphy Vanderford and Lillian Kendrick Vanderford. Before retirement, she was a teacher at Union High School in Union, SC, having taught as well at Gaston College and Union Academy. She was a former trustee and vice chairman (1983-1985) of the Trustees at Furman University. Mrs. Brooks was a member of First Baptist Church, Union. Mrs. Brooks was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Robert Hayne Rivers, Sr. and her second husband, Frank Emory Brooks. Surviving are her sisters Jean Vanderford Rhodes of Tallahassee, FL, and Faye Vanderford Baggett of Franklin, TN. Children include son, Bobby Rivers and daughter-in-law, Teresa Cox Rivers of Duluth, GA, daughters, Carol Bennett and son-in-law, Billy Bennett of Union, SC, Cam McDade and son-in-law Tony McDade of Simpsonville, SC, Susan Williams and son-in-law, David Williams of Simpsonville, SC , Donna Bryan and son-in-law, Chris Bryan of Simpsonville, SC, and Leslie Kadel and son-in-law, Douglas Kadel of Richmond, VA. Step-children include John Brooks of Chattanooga, TN, Alan Brooks of Hendersonville, NC, and Benjamin Brooks of Boiling Springs, NC. Mrs. Brooks is survived by fourteen grandchildren, Michael McCauley, Zach Bennett, Jennifer Murphy, Ashley Pearce, Andrew McDade, Katie Pongpa, Matthew Rivers, Jill Rivers, Jordan Bryan, Carrie Bryan, Cory Rivers, Natalie Rivers, Connor Kadel, and Catherine Kadel, as well as eleven great-grandchildren. We will all miss her dearly. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel, 310 W. South Street, Union, SC conducted by Rev. Robbie Stolger. A private family burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, at the funeral home prior to the service. s a tribute to her lifelong love of international missions, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Missions Offering in care of First Baptist Church, 405 East Main Street, Union, SC 29379.
