Arthur Alexander, Jr.

Mr. Arthur Alexander, Jr. age 85, husband of Mildred Stepp Alexander, of 223 S. Boyce St., passed away September 19, 2019 at Heartland of Union. Mr. Alexander was born September 15, 1934 in Union, a son of the late Arthur Alexander, Sr. and Onie Alexander. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Torrington and Company. Mr. Alexander was first married to the late Shirley Hawkins Alexander. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Deborah Varnado of Union and Donna Sumner and husband Mark of Abbeville; five grandchildren, Marcus Varnado, Jr., Amanda V. Davis, Melisa V. Murphy, Brittany Sumner, and Megan S. Gilmer; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Davis, Hayden Murphy, Colt Murphy, Lyla Murphy, and Breanna Davis; four brothers, Frank Alexander, Roy Alexander, Johnny Alexander, and Harold Dean Alexander; and his beloved dog, Snuggles. He was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Calvert and Ruby Plemmons. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, September 20, 2019 at Putman Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tommy Vaughn. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the services.
