Mr. Bernard Lamar Bishop, 92, widower of Jane Hutton Sims Bishop of 507 West South Street (corner of Malone Ave.), Union, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.
Mr. Bishop was born in Converse, SC, August 19, 1929, a son of the late Horace Earl and Allie Venia Barnett Bishop and a grandson of the late Jesse Lee and Susan Lillie Bell Cannon Bishop and the late William Randall and Della Mary Ann King Barnett. He was an Eagle Scout and a 1947 graduate of Union High School and then served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army. He later attended Mars Hill College and then received a B.S. Degree from Clemson College in 1956. After college, he was active as a scoutmaster for several years with the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Bishop was owner and operator of Bishop's TV Sales & Service in Union for over 50 years.
Mr. Bishop was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by two sons, Robert Lamar Bishop (and wife Marla Jean Hester) of Woodstock, GA, and Thomas Earl Bishop of the home and special friend Sally Elaine Summers of Union; one daughter, Emily Anne Bishop Reinhart of Chapin, SC; four grandchildren, Joshua Lamar Bishop (and wife Morgan), Laura Louise Bishop, Nicholas Graham Reinhart, and Garrett Malone Reinhart; a sister-in-law, Mary Kathryn Scott Bishop; three nephews, Carl Arthur Bishop, Jr. (and wife Misako), Steven Scott Bishop (and wife Robin), and David Allen Bishop (and wife Evelyn); and three nieces, Susan Marie Bishop Wilson (and husband Mike), Dorothy Carol Bishop Miller, and Norma Ann Bishop Hinkle (and husband Jerry); four great nieces; numerous cousins; and three special friends, Ruth Ann Cogdell Tucker and her son Fredrick Marshall Tucker, and Elsie Weighill Danner. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carl Arthur Bishop, Sr., and Jesse Earl Bishop.
Visitation will be held at the Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 1:00pm – 2:45pm followed by a graveside service in the Sims family plot at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity conducted by Rev. Lee Phillips of Grace United Methodist Church.
Active pallbearers will be Mr. Bishop's grandsons, Joshua Lamar Bishop, Nicholas Graham Reinhart, Garrett Malone Reinhart, and also James Wallace Cheek, II, James Randall Mabry, and Randy Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Union Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 951, Union, SC 29379 or to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, P.O. Box 456, Union, SC 29379.
The family will be at their respective homes.
