Bessie Silvers Whitlock

July 7, 2014 Mrs. Bessie Silvers Whitlock, age 75, of 112 Wilkerson Road, Whitmire, widow of Gordan S. Whitlock, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Whitlock was born in Whitmire, SC on August 19, 1938 a daughter of the late Earl E. Silvers and Avvie Gibson Silvers. She was the former owner of Whitmire Truck Stop and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Surviving are four daughters, Sylvia Whitlock and husband Jerry of Whitmire, Gail Bowie and husband Al of Union, Glenda Jones of Lexington, and Lynn Ellenburg and husband Tommy of Central; one son, Tony Jones and wife Linda of Newberry; one brother, Earl Silvers, Jr. and wife Elsie of Whitmire; eighteen grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Whitlock was predeceased by one brother, James Silvers and two grandchildren, Charles Black, Jr. and Beth Ivey. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Friendship Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Paul Rowe and Rev. Wayne Tobias. Burial will follow at Lee Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Charles Crumley, David Crisp, Robbie Dillard, Jerry Upton, Dan Lappon, and Gary Silvers. The nurses and staff of Blue Ridge Hospice are asked to sit in a group. Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church. The family is at the home, 112 Wilkerson Road, Whitmire, SC 29178.
