Betty Jean (Barnett) Alexander

January 29, 1936 — July 9, 2024

Union

Mrs. Betty Jean Barnett Alexander, age 88 of 103 N Evans St., Union, SC, passed away on July 9th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 29th, 1936 to the late Boyce Barnett and Lettie Campbell Barnett and was raised in Inman, SC, alongside one brother, the late Bill Barnett. She graduated from Gramling High School and shortly after met her sweetheart, the late Frank Dupree Alexander. They married May 29th, 1954 and took up residence in Union County. Shortly after, they had their first daughter, Kathy Alexander Gossett, and later completed their family with Angela Alexander Farr.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Betty had a servant's heart. She worked as a secretary in the Union County School district for 40+ years. After retirement, she spent time with her husband, children, grandchildren, friends, and her cats Doo and Sock. She loved cooking, sewing, creating floral arrangements and tending to her flower beds. Mrs. Betty aimed to live a life that would please the Lord. She was a devout member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church for 48 years. She never failed to bring her large family together when she hosted holidays and special occasions at her home. Her memory will live on through her many friends and family telling stories of the life she and Frank created. Even in her final days, her wit, sharpness, and love continued to shine through.

She is survived by her two daughters: Kathy Alexander Gossett and husband, Jerry Gossett, of Union; and Angela Alexander Farr and husband, Bobby Farr, of Union. Surviving also are three granddaughters, Charity Gossett Vaughan and husband, Rev. Jonathan Vaughan, of Youngsville, NC; Christie Gossett Knight and husband, Rev. Jared Knight, of Hillard, FL; and Melody Hope Farr of Union; and great-grandchildren: Anna Grace Knight, Brayden Knight, and Jeremiah Knight of Hillard, FL and Nathaniel Vaughan of Youngsville, NC. She also leaves behind her cats, her baby Doo and her rascal Sock of Union.

Funeral services will be held at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, Union, SC on Friday July 12 2024, at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Tom Tucker, Rev. Johnathan Vaughan, and Jerry Gossett. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

The pallbearers will be Allan Cromer, Tim Johnson, Mark Alexander, Jeff Benfield, Jerry Plemons and Bobby Farr.

Flowers will be accepted, and memorials may be made to Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Betty's doctors, nurses, and hospital staff at Spartanburg Regional and at Union Medical Center that took care of her during this time.

The family will be at the home, 103 N. Evans St., Union.
