Mrs. Betty Vanderford Bates, age 77, wife of George Bates of 110 Ralph Ridge Road, Union, SC 29379, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Bates was born June 10, 1943, a daughter of the late Malcombe Jack Vanderford and the late Bonnie Wilkie Vanderford. Mrs. Bates attended Union High School and previously worked at Conso and Winn-Dixie. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the benevolence committee.

Surviving in addition to Mrs. Bates husband are a daughter Amanda Bates of Union, a son Jeff Bates and wife Sheila of Union, three grandsons Tyler Bates, Brandon Bates and Lee Kitchens, two brothers, Robert Vanderford of Buffalo and Malcombe Vanderford of Union and three sisters, Joann Farmer of Union, Margie Thomason of Greensboro, NC and Fannie Garcia of Manteca, CA. Mrs. Bates was predeceased by a son, George Lee Bates, III, two brothers, Charles Vanderford and Paul James Vanderford and two sisters, Ruby Stevens and Linda Spellman.

Graveside services will be held Monday, November 16, 2020 at 11:00am at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Andrew Austin and Rev. Aulbrey Calvert. Active pallbearers are Matthew Farmer, Brandon Bates, Tyler Bates, Eric English, Robbie Vanderford and JT Farmer. Visitation will be held after the service. Memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 112 Bates Ave, Union, SC 29379.

The family will be at their respective homes.
