May 17, 2015 Ms. Betty Ellis Hartley, age 66, of 4042 Santuc-Carlisle Hwy., Carlisle, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Ms. Hartley was born in Sullivan Co., TN, April 24, 1949, a daughter of the late Oscar Barty Ellis and Martha Ann Mabe Ellis. She was retired from McDonalds of Union and had been employed at Carlisle Fish Camp. Surviving are a daughter, Erin Stokes and friend Dean Gault of Carlisle; two grandsons, Zachary William Stokes and Isaiah Christopher Stokes; her longtime companion, Douglas White of Carlisle; a special granddaughter, Skylan Vaughan; seven sisters, Ann Ellis of Boston, VA, Kathy Ellis of Jonesville, SC, Mary Benson of Unionville, VA, Patsy Woodward of Elkwood, VA, Peggy Wolfrey of Richardsville, VA, Shirley Bailey of Rixieville, VA, Barbara Bailey of Mt. Peliar, OH; two brothers, George Ellis of Boston, VA and Delmar Ellis of Cleveland, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. Ms. Hartley was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Meadows and Nancy Ellis; and two brothers, Allen Ellis and Barty Ellis. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum conducted by Rev. Kenneth Weaver. Active pallbearers will be Kerry Woodward, George Ellis, Dean Gault, Zachary Stokes, Isaiah Stokes, and Lance Vaughan. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the DCI Clinic, PD Unit, 105 Tradd St., Spartanburg, SC 29310. The family is at the home of her daughter, Erin Stokes, 1142 Tuckertown Rd., Carlisle.
