Mrs. Betty Jo Hodge Stepp, age 90, formerly of the Meansville Rd. Union, widow of Willie Ralph "Papa" Stepp, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, October 30, 2020.
Mrs. Stepp was born December 13, 1929 in Pacolet, a daughter of the late Lloyd "Roy" and Tilda Ann Lovings Hodge. She was a graduate of Pacolet High School and a member of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. Mrs. Stepp was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mrs. Stepp owned and operated Granny's Daycare. She also served as a foster parent to several children. A loving mother and wonderful homemaker, she had a huge heart and opened her home to anyone. She was affectionately known as "Mama Jo" or "Granny" to many generations of family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Lawson and husband, Steve of Buffalo, and Rita Hamm and husband Steve of Greensboro, NC.; three sisters, Bell Smith of Pacolet, Bessie Hobbs of Spartanburg, and Mary Holly of Columbia. She was loved and admired by her four grandchildren, Clay Lawson, Nick Lawson, Steven Todd Hamm, II and Katherine Elizabeth Holder and her twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stepp was predeceased by a brother, James Hodge and a sister, Mildred Henderson.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, November 2, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb, Rev. Mark Truitt and her grandson, Scott Todd Hamm, II. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Stepp's grandsons.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside services at the cemetery.
