Betty M. Matthews

Mrs. Betty Ruth McAbee Matthews, age 92, of 225 Eaves Rd., widow of J.C. "Jake" Matthews, Sr., passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Cherokee, NC, July 30, 1932, a daughter of the late Joseph Franklin McAbee and Bessie Tramell. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Matthews enjoyed NASCAR racing and working in her garden.

The last surviving member of her generation, she is survived by two daughters, Deborah Funderburk of York and Betty Thieson and husband Bill of Waxhaw; and two sons, Mike Matthews and Ernest Matthews both of Union. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 6, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
