Mrs. Betty Jean Dabbs Mitchell, age 78 of 121 Forest Street, Jonesville, widow of George Mitchell, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Lockhart, May 22, 1935, a daughter of the late George Russell Dabbs and Myrtle Horne Dabbs. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Jonesville Elementary School Cafeteria, she had formerly worked for Union County Senior Citizens Jonesville Center. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Choir, the Miriam Soto Group, Happy Hearts Club, Widows Club, and the Maude Rochester Sunday School Class. Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Mitchell of the Home; a sister Jo Dabbs Hodge of North Augusta; four grandchildren, Amanda Guyton of Pacolet, Brittany Nicole Mitchell of Jonesville, Jessie Mitchell of Union, and William Mitchell of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mitchell was predeceased by a son, William Howard "Scoot" Mitchell; three sisters, Madlyne Allen, Mary Elizabeth Dabbs, and Avadell Smith; a twin brother, Bobby Dabbs and a brother Donald Dabbs. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Jeff Dean and Rev. Ralph Brown. Active pallbearers will be James Smith, Charles Clayton, Jr., Tommy Driggers, Jody Guyton, Kenneth Smith, Benny Hildabrand, Vance Quinn, and Dennis Morgan. The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, Rev. Kenneth Smith, Jamie Hodge, and Donnie Smith. Visitation will be held Tuesday Evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel. The family wishes to thank Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, and Mary Black Memorial Hospital for the love, support, and care given to Mrs. Mitchell and her family during her illness.
