Betty Williamson Thompson

Betty Williamson Thompson, 72 of Whitmire, SC passed away on March 18, 2026, in Whitmire.

Born on December 21, 1953, in Union, SC Betty was the daughter of the late Bill and Faye Williamson. She dedicated 38 years of her life shaping young minds as a teacher, serving with Union Academy and Newberry County School District before retiring.

Betty was a woman of strong faith. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and also attended Grace Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and Newberry College.

Above all, Betty was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She found her greatest joy in her family and was deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She especially loved following her grandchildren to the ball fields, never missing a chance to cheer them on. Whether on the sidelines or in the stands, “Bet” was always their biggest fan. She also loved camping with her family.

She is survived by her son, Eric Thompson (Maria) of Pomaria, SC; her daughters, Susan Ellison (Ray) and Lynlee Beaman (Justin), both of Whitmire, SC; and her beloved grandchildren: Alex Ellison (Logan), Caylee Claytor (Danny), Trent Thompson, Ryder Thompson, Asher Thompson, Hadleigh Thompson, Everleigh Thompson, and Walker Beaman. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Cayden and Colter Claytor and Lawson Ellison.; her special, hand-picked granddaughter, Mak Lominick; her brother, Billy “Pedro” Williamson (Dana) and family and her former spouse, Rickey Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in the death by a special friend, Jimmy Andrews.

Betty will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering love for her family, and the joy she found in supporting those she loved. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 23, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Whitmire conducted by the Rev. Todd Johnson and Rev. Eddie Bledsoe.

Active pallbearers will be Alex Ellison, Danny Claytor, Ryder Thompson, Asher Thompson, Trent Thompson, Michael Moss, William Lominack, and Justin Beamen.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
