Betty Ruth (Waldrop) Atkinson

Mrs. Betty Ruth Waldrop Atkinson, age 92, of 117 Seigler Road, Union, widow of Earle Atkinson, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 13, 2025, at the home of her son.

Mrs. Atkinson was born March 5, 1932, in Spartanburg, a daughter of the late George Waldrop and Florine Sherbert Waldrop Gallman.  She was a 1950 graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and a 1953 graduate of Mercy Hospital where she received her nursing degree.  Mrs. Atkinson was a Registered Nurse for 50 years, having worked at Hope Hospital, Wallace Thomson Hospital, Dr. Gerald D. Fielder, and retiring as Plant Nurse of Buffalo Mill.  She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Methodist Church, where she had been Leader of the Youth, a choir member, part of the Sunday Dinner Committee, AG Carter Sunday School Class, and United Methodist Women.  Mrs. Atkinson was honored by Bethlehem Methodist Church as Mother of the Year.

Surviving are a son, Jeff Atkinson and wife Donna of Union; two grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Kelli Atkinson Bowers and husband Kenny and Trent Atkinson all of Union; and three great-grandchildren, Carter Mullis, Caden Newton, and Kaleb Paul Bowers.  She was predeceased in death by her stepfather, R.E. Gallman, Sr., a sister, Nell Waldrop Blanton, and a brother, R.E. Gallman, Jr.

Graveside services with nurses honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Bethlehem Methodist Church conducted by Pastor Lee Coyle and Pastor Chad Ponder.

Visitation will be immediately following in the Church.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Agape Hospice, especially nurse Rebecca Stanley and CNA Jamie Duncan and a special friend, Karen Lawson Finch.
